Tried this place for the first time after driving by and seeing it numerous times. We'll go back to just driving by. The brisket was rather meh... the ribs were ok. Visited Bubba's this weekend during the Bluebonnet Festival! We loved everything about it! The brisket and sausage were excellent! Loved the 3 different types of BBQ sauce! We had green beans, cole slaw, mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese for sides. All were excellent! The staff were so nice and helpful! The atmosphere was so warm and family friendly! My husband and I love going to eat at Bubbas. Their chicken fried steak is so tender and delicious, their mashed potatoes are definitely not.from a box. If you like ribs then you need to give them a try, they are so tender, they fall right off the bone. You will not be disappointed. read more

Small mom and pop restaurant with HUGE portions for the price. We we're just passing through town but it sounded good and had good ratings so we stopped. Im glad we did. I had the prime rib special and hubby had the chicken fried steak. Both were delicious, sides were tasty and fresh. If we ever get this way again I'll be trying the BBQ. Recommended to me by a few locals, thought I'd try out the BBQ scene in Ennis. As others have said, pull off the interstate one exit early or you're going to be making a sharp turn. Ordered 2 meats: sliced brisket and turkey with buffet sides of green beans and mac-n-cheese. Got a dinner roll, and a banana pudding for dessert - all came to $16ish, reasonable for the food. Brisket and turkey were both solid, good and flavorful. Portions were appropriate. Sauce came in two flavors: spicy and regular. Sauce was ok but nothing crazy good (or bad). Green beans were excellent. Mac-n-cheese was a little too sticky to be great but tasted decent. Roll didn't taste homemade, but it wasn't bad. Avoid the pudding - this was disappointing, more like a banana whipped cream than any actual pudding. Overall a solid choice, wiling to come back but not beating down the door to do so. read more

Food - Four of us ate here and we all chose cafeteria style so we could see and choose the food and sides we wanted. One of the adults tried the meat while waiting to check out and it was lukewarm. He asked for it to be warmed up and he was told all the microwaves were in use and it would be at least five minutes. Everyone's food was lukewarm. We ordered fried pickles and a chicken basket and those came from the kitchen super hot. The klobasa (not kielbasa) sausage they had was made with cheese and peppers, had a slight kick and was amazing. All three adults agreed it was probably the best thing we ate. The ribs were good. The brisket was kinda dry and the sauce was ok. The building layout was not well done. It was hard to navigate the building between the tables, it was hard to get out the front door without almost running into someone and multiple kitchen staff were squeezing between people trying to get between checking out of the cafeteria line and the line to get bbq sauce. If you visit, see if they have the klibasa because it was great. The person who served it said that it wasn't made the way they usually get it but I thought it was really good. read more

Tried them again as I heard they had new management. Brisket was dry and ribs had no flavor. Sadly this is what it's been like forever now. A simple brisket test is to balance a piece of brisket with your finger. If it bends freely, then it's moist and perfectly cooked. Mine just sat on my finger straight as an arrow. When you have to pour bbq sauce over the brisket to make it tolerable, there is a problem. I am a firm believer that the only people who serve bbq sauce with brisket are ones trying to hide something. That couldn't be more true here. I won't be going back anytime soon. read more

Happened to be hungry on the highway and wanted BBQ. Pulled in and found a very friendly staff and homely environment. Fantastic beef Brisket was a large potion and cooked perfectly. Comes with 2 types of homemade bar b q sauce in the crockpot with great variety of sides you can serve yourself buffet style, large portions. Very good home style green beans and fabulous potato salad just like mom used to make. Lots of other sides available. Texas toast and all the pickles and onions you need and other condiments. We just had an awesome meal here. We wanted a local joint with a good steak and didn't find it in the town we're staying in, so we found Bubbas on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Whoa!!! My husband and I shared a 16oz ribeye medium rare with a baked potato and a side salad with cherry cobbler to top it all off. First of all, the steak outdid any chain restaurant. Outback holds no candle to this juicy succulent medium rare meat. The potato was fluffy and warm, and they let you dress it however you want with however much stuff you want. The salad was fresh with creamy ranch dressing. And the cherry cobbler was the finale, warmed up with vanilla ice cream on top. I wish we could take this place home with us to East Texas. Food is amazing. I've recently moved to California after living my whole life in Texas. When I came back for a funeral I wanted some authentic Texas barbecue and that's exactly what I got. Brisket was moist (but if you're the weirdo who prefers lean they can do that too). My family did the barbecue line but you can also order off the menu if you prefer. I had brisket, spicy sausage, Mac and cheese, and potato salad. The sausage was really spicy which I love but others would underestimate it. The Mac and cheese was good and the potato salad tasted like both mayo and mustard which was a good balance. Also they use the good pickles, if you're a barbecue maniac you'll know what I mean. Jalapeños, onions, and I believe I saw pico de Gallo for free as well. The service was pretty good, just laid back, all the wait staff even needs to do is get drinks and clean tables, but they did their job in my opinion. Very clean and sweet tea is just a hair under diabetes: perfect to me. Great job bubba's you never disappointed in my childhood and you sure don't now! read more

Came for the Friday night prime rib dinner. Big disappointment! Sat in the rear dining area. Very noisy, some kid making loud farting noises and Poor service . The presentation was pitiful, meat too rare and not hot, as well as the juice. Salad didn't seem very fresh. I eat at Bubbas regularly, but think they should stick to barbecue. Got cobbler to go. Have been a long term customer for 20+ years. Each time I return to Texas, Bubba's is a must. Prices have risen which is to be expected but the staff is friendly and the food quality is excellent. I favor the brisket but have also enjoyed the ribs and links. The decor is welcoming and homey. Bubbas works in a pinch. I usually get the chopped Bbq sandwich. Fair portions of food. Sometimes I get the hot link and sliced brisket with 2 sides. Ribs are hit and miss like many Bbq places. Every once and awhile they serve deviled eggs and they are pretty good. I usually go through drive through and the service is prompt and adequate. The few times I have eaten inside I had good service and an ok atmosphere. The prices are fair. Bubbas has been in Ennis for quite a while and other Bbq places have come and gone. read more

WILL NEVER EAT AT THIS PLACE AGAIN. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE AND FOOD: Placed an order for 3 lbs sliced beef and 7 quarts of sides. Had a large party to feed. Was told over the phone that buns were not included so I had to purchase them separately. The order came to $101.00. I asked if they could give me a discount and the girl on the phone PROMPTLY and rudely said NO. picked up the order and discovered they didn't cross chop the sliced beef so we ran in to have them chop it. We apparently inconvenienced them because they were not happy. Tried to dump our sliced beef back in the pan and scoop out the already chopped beef and we told them no, no we don't want the already chopped (due to the amount of fat that's in the chop beef). Well that just made them even madder. So we get home to discover the meat taste like it came out of the fridge and the quart size sides that I purchased (and paid extra for) were half full. So basically I paid for the quarts but received the pints. And remember the buns I had to purchase because they don't come with the meal, well they were no where to be found. Called them and explained what we discovered and that I would like a credit back. So they took my name and said they would see me shortly. When I arrived to get the credit I had to explain my story to three people plus the owner. Who really doesn't want to give me my money back. Finally got someone who would help and she tells me the buns come with the family meal 1. So I asked why did they tell me different and charge me. So we agreed to a credit of $5.00. I told them. Wow what price are the quart size sides...if a pound of BBQ is $20 buck each and then a side was $6.99. I don't know if the originally owners sold out or just don't care anymore but it was a terrible experience and I will not return nor will I recommend them to anyone. read more

I find this place to be much more of a small town family restaurant, not a BBQ joint. It looks to dated form the outside, and not much better on the inside. You also deal with alot of the same problems as family restaurants. Alot of workers that would rather chat amongst each other than help you. And more importantly none of them (even the "manager" I talked to) knew jack shit about BBQ, including their own. How hard is it to know how you cook your meat. Just let me go look back at your smokers and I will tell you for you. That being said, the pork rib was very good. Not the greatest smoke flavor, but very tender and alot of meat. Brisket on the other hand was just a bit too chewy and too much fat that was un-rendered. Some of the flavor had been cooked out of it and the bark was non-existent. Sauce tasted pretty bad, and the sausage was hopefully not homemade. It had little flavor, weak casing, and was way to overcooked and hot temperature-wise, while having not kick of spice to it. Overall the meats were close to taste-less, and the sauce provided no help. I expected more by the size of the crowd and their love of advertising themselves with a flashy building and billboards, but sadly it was mediocre at best. read more
