It had big chunks of chicken, good chicken flavor, and nice dumplings. The bar here is very limited. Don't expect much. But they pulled together a nice gin martini for me. The decor and ambiance are mediocre. The service was friendly. Access is good. The place is very family/kid friendly. Vegetarian options are there, but few. And vegan? This is Texas. We had one of the worst dining experiences we've had in a long time at Cotton Patch Cafe. We waited nearly an hour and a half for our food. After a long wait with no updates, we finally asked if we could just get our order to go, and even then it took another 10 minutes. When we received the food, it was extremely disappointing. My chopped brisket sandwich was sloppily thrown together, with no barbecue sauce, no care in presentation, and clearly rushed. It honestly felt like they just wanted us gone. The food was not the best. I ordered the grilled mushroom patty melt. It was slathered in some type of sauce that had an unusual tangy taste. Unlike any patty melt I've ever experienced. The fries were just blah. I was quickly greeted and seated. My server was rather annoying going overboard on wanting to take my order. It took a long time to get my food and the gentleman who ordered several minutes after me had his food before I did. The restaurant reeked of body odor which made for an unpleasant experience. Also the lights and decorative bracket they are in could use a good cleaning. While the location is close to my hotel, I would be hard pressed to return. We went here randomly and were pleasantly surprised!!! I don't know why the reviews on here aren't higher. Maria served us. She was amazing, providing the best service! I had the salmon with rice, and baked potato and my fiance got the chicken fried chicken. Both entrees were delicious! Portions were great and very fairly priced. Wish we had photos (we honestly just dug right in!). The house rolls were so good we couldn't stop eating them, paired with the cinnamon butter... yum!!! This was our first time at this cotton patch. The staff were very welcoming. The older lady who was the host was great (her and my mother in law almost became bffs). We came on a Friday around lunch time (1:30 pm). Wasn't too busy. I had two kids meals. Both my kids had the chicken tenders and it came with two sides (that's a plus). I did appreciate them bringing those out first. I ordered the avocado chicken sandwich. It wasn't too bad. I did ask for the bun to have mayo and it didn't. The waitress did bring that on the side. Fries were on the dry side for me though. My mother in law ordered the triple cheeseburger with mustard and again they didn't put it on. In my opinion I feel someone in the kitchen just wasn't paying attention to the modifications. She said it was ok. My husband had the potato with brisket. He said he'll give it like a 3/5. I'm really unsure how to rate this visit to be honest. The waitress we had although nice seemed to be all over the place. We had to ask several times for things. She was very apologetic and initially I was sympathetic but her forgetfulness became a bit much from drinks, to appetizers, to take out bags. I came here with my family for a quick bite which turned into a long lunch. We asked for the fried green tomatoes which we were told that they may not have them from the beginning. It took the waitress a good 25-30 minutes to even let us know anything about them having them or not having them. She only realized that she forgot when she made eye contact with me. She came over to tell us they had one left. Maybe 10 minutes later someone came and said they don't have them. We then placed our order for our actual meal. They didn't have the fries shrimp that my mom wanted so she ordered a border. Everyone seemed to be happy with their food except for me. I ordered the mushroom patty melt (I think that's what it's called) it wasn't nasty but way too salty. I can honestly say that I would definitely not come back to this particular Cotton Patch. 8/16/25 just drove 1000 miles and got to the hotel and was told the food was good here. Went in with my wife to get the shrip diners. Asked the girl at the front if we could have a booth while looking at 6 open ones and she said they dont have any open. Ok. Sat at a table and watched others sit down after us get service while we waited. Not a big deal. Then when we tried to order the shrimp was told their out. So we told him i think were just going to go. Then he said he can check? No thank you and we left. As we where walking out a woman came out and said they did have shrimp. No were ok amd went to arbys next door. Not sure what to think iv never walked out like that and after reading the review with the raw pork and other poeple and kids getting sick im really happy we left. They have people in there that im sure are great at their job but the bad ones ruin it for all. I was very pleased with the restaurant and how they're handling COVID the workers are wearing masks and they have sanitizer available for the patrons and have 6ft social distancing between tables. The food was very flavorful I had the chicken fried chicken with jalapeño gravy the chicken was fried to perfection and the gravy was amazing. I also had the garlic mashed potatoes I usually don't care for skins on the potatoes but these were good and I enjoyed them the green beans were awesome as well. And the rolls they bring you popping hot and fresh so good I asked for a second basket. So when traveling that way I know I will stop in again and definitely recommend them to family and friends when traveling that way. read more

BrocColi and cheese is always on point. I would give 5stars if I just got the shrooms and broccoli and cheese. Only $35 tab. Food definitely worth the price. It was extremely busy and we waited 30 minutes for a table, but soon found out it was because of their 32nd Bday and they had $5 Chicken Fried Steak and $5 Chicken Fried Chicken, today only. So that definitely explains the long wait. The food was good, but we were too tired from traveling to take any pictures this time. The garden salad was fresh with lots of various diced veggies on it, and the Chicken Fried Chicken and Chicken Fried Steak were tasty. The garlic mashed potatoes were good and the green beans were really peppery, but we enjoyed them as well. We were too full for dessert, but it looked like they had some good options to try for next time. They had a ton of to-go orders waiting to be picked up sitting on a counter in the "to-go" area. I went to Cotton Patch in Ennis TX and got a take-out chicken fried steak. When the young female was taking my payment she kept touching her left eye to adjust her giraffe eyelashes and I thought do I want her to touch my food? In a few minutes she came by me with another take-out order which was touching the front of her shirt and it made me sick. When I got my take-out order it was upside down and the black eye peas were hard as bricks. This used to be a good place to eat. Not now and the health department should get involved. read more
