ALERT THE MASSES: Bubba's Place isn't just a bar--it's a rhinestone-encrusted portal to a dimension where Liberace and the Village People collided at Studio 54 and decided to start a cult. The moment you walk in, you're hit with the sonic equivalent of a disco ball making sweet love to a grand piano covered in sequins. The house band, "The Construction Workers in Candelabras," performs "YMCA" as if it were a classical piano concerto, complete with crystal chandeliers that pulse in rhythm to every "Young Man!" The pianist wears a cape made entirely of mirror balls and has legally changed their name to "Liberace's Ghost." They don't take requests--they take DEMANDS, preferably shouted while wearing a feather boa. The bartenders all dress like different Village People characters, but with added crystal-encrusted epaulettes that would make Elton John blush. Their signature cocktail, "In the Navy But Make It Fabulous," comes in a glass piano shaped vessel that plays "Macho Man" when you drink from it. It's garnished with a tiny working disco ball and costs more than your monthly car payment. Every Thursday is "Excessive Expression Night" where the regulars compete to see who can combine the most flamboyant Liberace-inspired costume with authentic Village People choreography. Last week, someone performed "Can't Stop The Music" while playing a bedazzled keytar atop a rotating gold-plated motorcycle. Three people fainted from the sheer magnificence. The dance floor is actually a giant light-up piano keyboard that triggers both musical notes AND fog machines. The regulars have mastered the art of playing "Go West" with their feet while simultaneously doing the arm movements from "YMCA." It's now considered a local rite of passage. Five stars. Would absolutely risk temporary blindness from excessive sequin exposure while watching a leather-clad cowboy perform Chopin on a piano that shoots actual fireworks. Just remember to bring sunglasses (for the rhinestones) and a signed liability waiver (for the spontaneous conga lines). P.S. Legend has it if you say "Liberace" three times into the bathroom mirror, all the toilets start playing "In The Navy" in perfect harmony. A dive bar that with a little maintenance and furniture upgrades would make a big change. Bar stools were literally broken and borderline dangerous. Bright spots were the bartenders and the food. Hamburger was very good also had the fish ( was there for 2 days ) it was ok. Bartender Becky or Beca was awesome on day 1 and Kieran ( hope it's spelled right) was awesome the next day..... don't call her Karen n definitely not kitten! TUESDAY $7.50 STEAK NIGHT!!! Try the House Sauce it's amazing!!! Rozy was the cook, and our bartender (she works Tuesday until 6:00 p.m. & Saturday nights so get there Saturday for a $1 burger), she can cook a mean steak, exactly they way we like it, melted in our mouths. When we arrived the place was packed and we thought, "oh man we are going to wait forever," but NOPE. I've been to many dive bars in my life, and also worked at one one and Rozy is one of the fastest, most attentive and best bartenders I've ever seen. She's courteous, cheerful, and efficient unlike other bartenders that cuss like a sailor when the owner isn't there, and slack, roll their eyes, and get upset when we order something. When shift change happened, I noticed the night bartender (replacing Rozy), put all the food on the plate and the steaks were bleeding into the salad, and potatoes. GROSS. Rozy served the salad first, in a bowl while we waited for our steaks. The horrible pictures of inside & pics of dried food are the exact ambience for this place. The service was horrible. The bartender seemed very upset we were there. She sent over a couple people to come "help us" but they weren't on pay roll. Every-time someone came to "help us", there were always at least 2 people behind the main "helper" like a gang. The helpers told us on several occasions that the bartender wanted to kick us out. But we only sang 2 songs and never received the right orders for drinks. How do you forget the coke in rum and coke. The gang also followed us out the door. We were conversing outside at our cars and the only white guy in our group falls on the ground and here comes "the gang" again watching like vultures as if they wanted to fight. #washingtoncheck #drinking and #karaoke should be fun not intimidating. read more

this is not a public bar. it is a clubhouse where the owner sits at the bar drinking every day. thuggy crap happens and as long as a regular does it, no problems. it is dirty, half the machines are broken and the rudeness is intense. So, if you are not a regular stay away. read more

Awesome bar that's under the radar. Went in on a Thursday for their dinner special. OUTSTANDING. Better than anything at the Cheesecake Factory. Fried pork chop, spinach casserole, fully loaded mashed potatoes, all from scratch. Anna, the amazingly talented and funny bartender, even breaded the chop in crushed tortilla chips because I told her I was gluten free (yes, she is the chef too). Unreal. ALL FOR $7.50. It's a DIVE BAR all the way .... the staff is awesome, once they know you, they bring your drink as you settle in ... a couple of BIG TVs and a couple of smaller ones to watch the game from wherever you seat ... Thursday note, it's a home cooked meal that normally sells out, Saturday are $1 burgers and I think its Wednesday they have $2 bottle beers .... now if your into the foo foo bar food, the fancy drinks, go somewhere else, this isn't the place for you .... but if your down to earth person, just want a cold drink at a fair price, you'll love this place.... it's about half to a third cheaper than the bar up the street.... fyi, everyone that I bring here love this place, hope you get the same treatment as I get everytime I come here... long live Bubba's read more

8/31/10 Bubba's is a dive bar and doesn't try to be anything else. It has a fiercely loyal crowd. The bar tenders are good & very friendly. The prices are very low. There is a large area out back to enjoy drinks & smoke without getting rained on. The one love/hate issue at Bubba's the music. It's loud. If you don't like loud music, it's not the place for you. 7/27/11 Adding to my initial review from a year ago.- I love Bubba's! When texting with friends it has become Buhhhbbbba's. LOL. All of my friends have been and wish they live closer to Kent just so they could go more often. It's still a dive. But it's the best one I've ever been to. The owner, Susan, is almost always there. She really cares about her staff & the patrons. Anytime regulars have a birthday, if she knows, she puts it on facebook & the reader board out front. With only 2 pool tables, Bubba's is limited on how many teams can be based there. It's almost impossible for new teams to get in. And Susan, again, is the best bar owner ever when it comes to supporting her teams! It's not just lip-service & thanks for spending in my bar. Susan is there for her teams and they know it. If her teams go to OR or Vegas, Susan is right there with them, cheering them on. A lot of people hate on Bubba's because it is such a dive. But if they would get past that, they would see that Bubba's isn't about the building, it's about the people. What I called a fiercely loyal following a year ago is wrong. This is a local hang out. Most of the bartenders and staff are friendly. I always run a tab, and use their drink specials... The dart board is one of my favorite draws to the place. It's super casual, even a dive-bar but it's an easy place to hang out. read more

Was there last night ....Went alone .....Like my 3rd time in??? And the bartender Destiny?? She was very nice and pours a good drink.!! The atmosphere was comfortable. This guy played good music on jukebox. A local guy ken was super sweet that sat next to me. His birthday yesterday. Had nothing but nice stuff to say about the regulars and staff and especially the food . Very inviting place to go drink especially if your a single woman alone.... Very safe. Sat. 2/23/3019 3:00 in the afternoon, 4 of us went in for lunch. The bartender, was rude, disrespectful and down right slow. She ignored us for the reason we believe is because we were females. She had no problem catering to the men in the bar. We all ordered fish in chips, which we heard were the best around. All of ours were over cooked and just awful. We have been coming to Bubba's for quiet some time. As part of the ADG family, I was surprised when we left that the bartender came out and said we were not welcomed back at Bubba's again. I am assuming because she did not get a tip from us. As a bartender myself, this is the first I have never left a tip, anywhere. Maybe she should have got the hint. Guess what????? We don't want to come back to a place that treated us the way she did. read more

Great people.... owner, staff, and guests make a visit to this place both memorable and enjoyable. With lunch/dinner specials that you don't expect to find at a dive bar, coupled with prices that are lower then anywhere else around makes this place great. It's a spunky lil' dive! Great drinks with a strong bite. Some hipsters, a few sleeve tattoo sort of dudes and lots of punk rock Chic's. Have ridden by this place for many years on my way to the more inviting bar just south of here. On 8/8/15 after a very long work day stopped in with a friend for a beer and dinner. At least that was the plan. Walked in, sat down and waited for fifteen minutes exchanging a dozen or more looks with the two people working behind the bar. Well working may be a strong term for BS-ing with what appeared to be their regular customers. We left with no dinner or a drink. Hard to order when your being ignored. Walked out and will continue to drive by this place on my way to the nicer bar with great customer service just south of this one where we had a great dinner and a pitcher of beer. I love this place. I like that the decor of the outside keeps away undesirables. By that I mean yuppies. Did you know that auto spell check recognizes the word yuppies? Anyways, the girls in my office wouldn't come here and then one day I abducted them and forced them to go here. It was on a Thursday and the bartender recommended they order a Thursday. They both loved it! Also if you happen to hit here on a Tuesday I recommend you get the Steak lunch. $6.85 you get a steak, potato/or fry, and a salad. Is a Ruth Chris steak? No, and if you want that, GTFO. Oh yeah and don't forget Saturdays they sell bar style burgers for $1, with purchase of a beverage. Just a good dive bar. You should just keep driving by. Met some buddies from work here on a Friday evening and really wished someone had been here before. Walked into the building and it had people spaced out but the bartenders were standing together and not wearing a mask. A piece of hard plastic over your mouth does it prevent the distribution of water particulates in the surrounding environment. Anyways, the service was slow as they were busy chatting to each other and when we were able to order, it was not really beer. I had a Mac and Jack that was flat and bitter; it's not supposed to be either of those. My buddy asked for a larger draft and got something with a thick slime like texture on top. I do not think the taps had been cleaned for a while. Sitting out back after getting to bottles we were chatting when we noticed that you didn't need to go inside to hit the "head". Just turn your back to the crowd and let loose. After the second gent relieved himself we just popped smoke and went done the street. Bubba's has a terrific "lived-in" quality that is inviting. There are daily food and drink specials. The bartenders are awesome, quick with suggestions if you are feeling adventurous. There are several pool teams that play during the week. The Saturday night tournament has become a staple. read more

It is a dive bar and does not have a lot of personality (although the servers are very engaging and personable), but $5.50 for this lunch...you can not go wrong no matter how you might try. We used to go for drinks at Bubba's about once a month. We are elderly, but feel very comfortable there! Its fun to watch the people there, the music is loud, and a little "divey", but we loved it. We always left a good tip. Our second last time we were there, we sat near the back, and we had long waits for drinks. After 10 empty minutes, my wife goes to the bar, and tries to order; the rude 'server' said "I just served you!" So we finished, left no tip. Our next (last) time we came in, the same server was there. We sat at the bar, ordered drinks (much faster). Then this server proceeded to put all her cash on the bar, right next to us, and begin counting! Filthy money where our drinks sat! And the owner was right there, and she said nothing to her! Only other negative is the N parking lot, the cars park all over the place when it is crowded, got to watch that you don't get hemmed in! We haven't been back since - maybe we'll check to see if she is still there, but do not plan on going back until the cancer is removed/quit/fired.
