My first and last time being here. Met up with my sister friend after work to spend some time together before the end of the year. Bar server was great! Drink options were average! We've been at the Monkey every Monday evening for a couple of years. We love the fun quiz, karaoke starts at 9pm with excellent quizmaster and DJ, Chris, and Laurie is our favorite bartender. First time going to this bar was right after it opened during the pandemic. Went on a night they had Karaoke and it was loud as heck! Some of the songs and singers were enjoyable, though. A couple of our friends were dancing and singing along, having a good ol' time! Service was actually great. The waitress for our table was pretty attentive and friendly. I have eaten here three times and all three times I ordered the Spunky Monkey Pasta with blackened salmon. It has always been delicious with fresh broccoli, yellow squash and a really big piece of salmon. The cream sauce is nice and light. The staff is wonderful! This was the closest bar to my hotel, cool name so thought I'd give it a shot. Started off great, met a couple strangers from different walks of life and learned a lot through the conversation. Staff was pretty cool and beer selection on tap decent.. Makings for a pretty cool hangout next time I fly into town. Then 9 pm happened. Kareoke started, I thought cool, lots of fun in the kareoke crowd. Boy was I so wrong! What followed was 45 minutes of the most intense physical punishment as people screamed horribly into the over charged amps. Instantly felt like my ears were bleeding and my Apple watch, however accurate they are, registered 115 dB. Accurate or it my ears hurt. Most patrons that didn't retreat to outside were plugging their ears and making faces. The staff laughed. I leaned to bartender and asked if she's making hazard pay but all she could say was...what? Few quite songs and then a death metal so.g that forced me to retreat outside. Once over I ran in and paid before the next song. If you want to lose your hearing (I love heave metal so I know loud) head on over. Guess it's not my pint of beer. I'll never be back. read more

Been going to spunky for over 4 years now, tonight was my worst experience, server tried to double charge us multiple times which he fixed earlier which I was fine with in the end due to him still learning.. But the Dj Ben seemed to get very buddy buddy with two guest to point where a few others and I as well didn't get to do karaoke between 9:40am-1:40pm after putting out name on. First of all, this bar is literally few hundred feet away from my apartment. I can see it with the lights from afar. You walk upstairs to the bar and get your ID checked either by the bartender or by the "bouncer". Then, you get to hear all of the amazing voices by karaoke people with the funkiest songs ever. However, I believe this is why the bar is popular because it's like the only hipster bar in "Texas" Auburn. People are drunk, dance, and enjoy the company of others. My friends ordered steamed clam with sourdough bread and buffalo chicken wings from here. I thought they tasted pretty good for being only bar food. The buffalo chicken wings will send sirens to your nose because they contain that much spice. The steamed clams have enough juice that you have to dip your bread in to get the tart flavor out. Also, there're 2 pool tables that are coin-operated & 2 dart games for you to play. My favorite bar I found myself in while visiting Auburn. It was a close walk from my hotel so it was easy for me. I showed up around noon, so I hit the smaller, early crowd. The bartender was nice and I was stoked to see such a nice little outside area to sit and smoke. I met a couple of regular day drinkers here and they made my experience that much better. Lots of fun and interesting conversation. Didn't check out any food, but they had cider, so I was happy. If I find myself back in Auburn, I'm making a point to get back to this bar. read more

I moved to Auburn from living up north and didn't really know anything around. My boyfriend and I decided to go to Spunky Monkey one night to see what it was about. I can honestly say I haven't had that much fun at a bar in awhile. Matt the bartender is literally amazing and is the only reason why we came back for a 2nd time and will continue to be back. When I didn't know what I wanted to drink I left it up to him and omg he has never let me down. Matt makes the most amazing drinks, he tends to every patron to make sure everyone is taking care of. He is the reason my boyfriend and I will continue to come back!! If you haven't been I would HIGHLY recommend coming out! After 9pm it's Karaoke night! i ate the best burger ever here. it was the Cheddar Jalapeño Burger, and it had house-made tomato-mango chutney in it! made the flavor amazing. i usually could only eat half a burger in one sitting, but it was too good to put down. the setting is very loud, there's either karaoke going on or live music. the bathroom is also on the stage so u would have to walk up there to use it. it's very much a party bar and somewhere to go on a night out. there's a pool table, darts, and limited tables. it can get really busy on a normal day so it can be hard to find parking or somewhere to sit inside. read more

The temperature out on the street was high, and to get away from the heat and get a bite of a light meal, we wondered into Spunky Monkey Bar & Grill. We sat at the bar counter and ordered our drinks, in addition we placed orders of some food: Nacho with pulled pork and Bacon wrapped prawns. The cool drinks we ordered were served and it soothed our body. We looked around and noticed this bar place have some customers who seemed like regulars and they were just there enjoying their time and socializing among themselves. The bartender behind the counter was very friendly and efficient doing her job and ensured that everyone in the bar was well taken care of and feeling comfortable. The food arrived soon enough, the nacho with pulled pork was in an adequate portion, tasted inviting and average, but the bacon wrapped prawns was so outstanding with it's exceptional flavor, nicely prepared, very satisfying and made our tummies very happy. I've never seen this before, watched a little security women circle the bar for over an hour. Glaring and passive aggressively weaving between patrons, made our entire group feel so uncomfortable. She ended the night (10:30) kicking out this group along with her co security. Definitely not the de escalation tactics you want to see out there. read more

TLDR/ Food: Homey and delicious, Customer Service: Friendly, Ambiance: A bit of a dive bar, but fun, Verdict: A definite Yes! I am so glad that the spunky monkey is still doing takeout food/ drinks during the pandemic. This hidden gem of a bar/grill was my go to karaoke place when I was younger and today it has the best bar food in the Auburn area. Their food is not only delicious and well packed, but also reasonably priced. The last time I ordered from there I ended up getting a to go alcoholic beverage (which I haven't here done previously) and it was also delicious. They were totally willing to accommodate me asking for my drink without ice, so it wouldn't become lackluster on the drive home and the staff was as courteous and friendly as ever. I hope that if you haven't patronized this 'hole in the wall' bar before, that you will order to go from them now and prevent them from going out of business during this crazy time. While the restaurant isn't the best place out of everywhere in Auburn, it is certainly one of my go to places from what's available in this area. If you have a love of garlic, you must try their Caesar salad, it is so garlicky!!! I usually get their spaghetti and meatballs, or their "The Great Steak" sirloin steak, or one of the myriad of the other pastas or appetizers they offer. I have never been disappointed by anything I have order here, and got someone as picky as I am, that is saying something indeed. So, next time you want a decently priced, and portioned meal that has that home cooked feel, try out The Monkey! You won't regret it! read more

My boyfriend and I came to Spunky Monkey to meet up with my mom and her boyfriend for his birthday - they have karaoke 7 nights a week, dart boards, and pool tables! So not only was there plenty of entertainment, but my mom and her boyfriend frequent this place... Even though they've got tons of monkey references around the bar, it's also got some tiki references to it too. It's interesting, but it's a really cute bar. The karaoke stage is pretty cool. The setup is up some stairs so there's almost kind of a stage. Chris, the karaoke DJ, is awesome! He's funny and makes everybody feel super welcome. Their dart boards need some work - it's been some time since they've been updated and cleaned. The service is okay. There was several times where it took FOREVER to get a drink, but all of the bartenders were super nice. Definitely an interesting little bar and one I'm sure we'll be back to! read more

We stumbled upon this place on Halloween weekend after being highly disappointed from the last bar we tried. We're new to Auburn and wanted to explore what we have locally for drinks and date night. We sat at the bar and I absolutely loved that they have hooks for your purse! The place was clean and bartenders very attentive it was a team affair. We ordered bar food asap and it came fairly quick as hungry as we were it went down instantly. Pretty good for bar finger food! The night ended up getting packed and karaoke night was awesome! Even the ones that didn't sound so good sounded good cause that's the point! It was also rock night and I knew almost even jam!!! Wish we had dressed up to fit in, next year for sure!
