It's not one of Gordon Ramsay's restaurants, but Bubbles is good for what it is. It's grown to be a distinguishing part of Mechanicville and has been here for as long as I can remember. It's been around longer than a lot of residents -- myself included -- have been alive. Longevity is a factor to consider, so you have to give them some credit for that. It's really your standard diner sort of place, and is known (as the bigass ice cream cone on the roof suggests) for its ice cream. If you go here expecting the most amazing, upscale, high-quality meal of your life, your perceptions are completely off-base and I would encourage you to seek out a psychiatrist. Mmm... tastes like childhood! Well, more specifically, the soft-serve coffee/raspberry twist does. The two subtle flavors combine to make something I find incredibly delicious. I only go to Bubbles for the ice cream. I think I dined in the restaurant once, but I was very young. Grab a cone at one of the windows, take a seat in the nearby shelter, and hop on one of the coin-powered rides. I'm still small enough to fit on the merry-go-round... just watch me. Well bubbles has been a hit and miss lately for me. Today was a hit though, the omelet I ordered was perfect and hit the spot. Bacon and cheese, with home fries deep fried and Italian toast. Boy oh boy it was good. Another thing that is always a hit here, atleast for me is the raspberry pie. Bubbles is the only place that does it right when it comes to that pie. I only wish they were a little bit more consisted with their lunches and dinners. read more

Been going to bubbles since the 60's and enjoyed the food and price.of late it seems things have changed including the owners and food quality.seems like they're changing food products.chopped sirloin was ground beef,now I'm not sure what to call it.blt were great,now bacon is so salty that I can't even eat it.if it's not broke don't try to fix it.you had a good product line over the years,why experiment with sub standard food when you had a good thing.does cook taste anything????the place is losing ground in my opinion. read more

I have to write this 'review' of Bubbles since I grew up and lived in McVille since 1952 (but moved away in 1972). Still have family in town so we thought we'd go for fish fry on a Friday night! Bubbles was always packed and still is! The fish fry looks like it always did - long piece of fried fish served on a hot dog roll and I've always had the red sauce rather than tartar. The sauce is different and has an odd taste - guess the new owners changed up some things. And the little hot dogs? Always were fun but hard to compete with Gus' and/or Charlie's right? Can't find them outside Tri-City area! If you're in McVille - why not support the locals. Staff does the best they can when they get busy...be patient. This place is an absolute gem!! Friendly staff and great food. I ordered French Onion soup and it was just as it should be tasty onion broth and a generous amount of cheese over the top and oozing over the sides - so yummy. My sandwich was very good as well and another person in my party made specific requests with their food and it was well received by the waitress with a smile and served exactly how they wanted. Don't usually order dessert but with everything so good we couldn't resiist and we were not disappointed. Will come again when in the area. Thank you. :-) read more

LOVE BUBBLES! My fiance and his family have been eating here for years. I moved to the area about 5 years ago and it's quickly become one of my favorite spots. I have never been disappointed with my meal. Our 'usuals' are the mini dogs, both open face sandwiches, fish fry, and all day breakfast?! Yes please! Ice Cream is definitely top notch, my sister always wants to go for a twist when she's visiting me. Staff is always exceptionally friendly and attentive. I wish there was a 10 star option because they deserve it for sure. One of these days I'm gonna actually sit and eat, everytime i come to pick up my to-go order I end up wishing I had just gotten a table and ate there. Bubbles love the name it is really hard to get 5 stars from me but bubbles did it they even gave me 10% off my ticket because I wanted to supplement an item and she said she couldn't do it. My first piece of information that makes this restaurant tops in my book is that they have a gluten-free section in their menu. They even serve gluten-free French toast. I had that and it was so fantastic. It was cooked perfectly, with the right amount of powdered sugar on top. They also have an extensive vegetarian section. To top it off they have a variety of ice creams, cakes, pies and puddings. If you have dietary requirements I highly suggest Bubbles. Seating was fast and our waitress was great with an attitude to match. We were informed about the specials. I ordered the liver/bacon/onions. A word of warning. Go there hungry. Started with a great looking and tasting salad. Had to stop eating it as I was getting full. I got either 2 or 3 pieces of liver (it was hard to tell if I had already cut one) with 5 big full size strips of bacon on top of a mound of fried onions. It was cooked perfect. It came with what looked like about a pound of fries and cole slaw. The liver melted in your mouth. My wife got the turkey dinner that came with stuffing/mashed potatoes/ cole slaw and salad. I wanted to try their great looking pie but I was stuffed. We ended up taking home doggie bags as we were so full. read more

This little diner is the Best place I have ever had breakfast. Not only breakfast, but the lunch menu is huge and they cook everything perfectly, bacon crispy, poached eggs have runny yokes, but not watery. Pancakes crispy outside soft and fluffy in the middle. hash browns were brown and crispy but very flavorful. Omelettes are made to perfection, for example mushroom cheese omelette, mushrooms were sautéed before and cheese was melting but the omelette was fluffy and not brown at all... I just can't say enough about this place, service was great, helpful, and quick! Prices are fantastic especially with the huge portions you get...we stayed in the area for a week and ate there 9 times...AMAZING! read more

I really like this place. The food is good and the people are very friendly. My only problem is with the ice cream stand portion of the business. The ice cream is some of the best I have experienced in the entire area, and if you like soft ice cream, you would be hard pressed to find any better than what Bubbles serves. The ice cream sandwiches are also amazing! I'm a regular customer, so I hope they have the good sense to read this constructive advice. My issue has to do with portion amount. When I order a large cone, I expect to get a large cone. Not a medium. The last large cone I bought was a tall, spindly column that was so narrow it nearly ended up on the ground. The one I got the week before was not huge, but much better - wide at the bottom, nice and fat and so much easier to eat.... and not drop! This may sound like I'm nitpicking, but it seems like nobody knows how to make a soft ice cream cone anymore. Here's the formula for success: put ice cream in the cone. Not as little as possible, but the appropriate amount based on the size and price (higher prices every year). Now this is the important part: don't make it look like a telephone pole. Make it wide at the bottom, wide in the middle and SLOWLY taper it the rest of the way. I'm paying more for a large, so I want a nice cone with some thought put into the creation of it. Have some pride when you make a cone; ice cream lovers want more ice cream , not less. Don't be cheap, it's bad for business. Make the cone shorter, but FATTER! This method of cone making applies to all size cones, not just large.This makes all the difference, your customers will be happier, will be able to eat the thing without it falling out of the cone or melting all over your hand. I run into this situation everywhere. Give me a skinny, measly cone and I will not go back. Give me a nice, FAT cone and I will come back A LOT! It's just not me; any customer will love a generously portioned, fat, thick cone instead of a scrawny, thin cone. So the bottom line is this: Bubbles Restaurant is an awesome place, with great food and GREAT ice cream. Fat cones are awesome and great for business. Skinny cones are stupid and a rip off, and are bad for business. You want FAT $$$, give me, give everybody a FAT CONE! read more

Mini dogs, mini dogs, mini dogs...they're GREAT!!! I've been there many times in my youth but no so lately. Been away from NY many years. My son graduates next June and I'm gonna certainly try and stop by and eat a plate of mini dogs. I ate in the restaurant once and it was terrible, I sent it back and ate at home. I have gone for ice cream a few times. The last time I went they had raised prices and made sizes smaller. The service was slow, the young girl was rude gave no greeting or Thank you. Its not outstanding ice cream just the basic soft serve flavors you would get anywhere. I just don't understand why the owner's don't keep the place clean and updated. It is pretty bad. The food is hit or miss but you do get big portions. Stay away from the turkey dinner, very bad it was either frozen processed turkey or deli turkey cut thick. I am officially disappointed with Bubbles. It used to be a place you could go to for a nice diner-type meal. I had been looking forward to visiting Bubbles since I hadn't been in a while. Our waitress was scattered, but I was told it was the change of shift and a new waitress took over after we ordered. Service was quick, but I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked down and realized my sandwich had a moldy tomato on it. Not just a speck of mold- black patches of mold. The waitress took my plate so I had the luxury of watching four other people eat while I sipped coffee. The burger was replaced, but my experience is forever tarnished. To top it all off, when we received the bill we were overcharged by $5 due to errors the waitress made when putting our order in. I just hate the way we were treated. I won't go back. read more

Food and service is very good. Consistent and friendly staff. My comment is on pricing. Last time I ordered a small anti pasta at a very reasonable price. Tonite I ordered the same item and was quite surprised to see a 33 1/3% price increase. As a senior citizen with a 0% social security and a 1% pension increase, I feel that a 20% increase in your price would be more sensitive especially for senior citizens.
