My friend, Barb, and I make a trek to Clifton Park about every 6 - 8 weeks to shop at Trader Joe's. Our gals' day out starts at lunch, where we often try a new restaurant. Another friend, Pam, had highly recommended Emma Jayne's Restaurant which is only a couple of traffic lights from Trader Joe's - a perfect location for our trip. The restaurant sits just north of Fred the Butcher (next door, literally) for those who frequent that establishment, on Route 9. There is off-street parking. When we arrived at 12:30 p.m. on a Tuesday, the front parking spaces were full. (Note: there may be parking around back; I didn't check) We thought we might have to wait for a table. Wrong! The restaurant is surprisingly spacious with two large rooms furnished with tables that were thoughtful spaced apart. A photo of an adorable young girl, whom we assumed was the dining establishment's namesake, was on the wall. Let me be sure to mention that the ladies room, which smelled faintly of bleach, was spotless. I mean REALLY clean! About the food ... my friend and I shared an appetizer of Fried Calamari. It was an ample portion (took some home) accompanied by sweet chili sauce - a nice change from typical marinara served at other places. However, the calamari was small and overcooked. As a result, what was presented was a plate of small, overly crisp rings of 90% batter. No squid! For our entrees, Barb chose the Chicken Salad Sandwich. She requested that it be served on a pretzel bun (touted as homemade) for which we were hit with an up-charge of $3.50. The chicken salad had grapes and walnuts in it and Barb liked it very much. The up-charged pretzel roll did not appear to be homemade. Very disappointing. Had she known it would be uninspiring, she would have accepted the brioche roll. Macaroni salad - not very exciting - accompanied the sandwich along with a pickle. I love seafood and was torn between ordering the Fish and Chips (halibut) and Lobster Pot Pie (an appetizer). Our server, Drew, gets a gold star for suggesting the second one when I told him I wasn't a big eater. Apparently, the halibut, while highly recommended, is a sizable portion. The pot pie was superb! The rich, creamy sauce was divine. I couldn't eat it all and will enjoy the rest of it for lunch today. Emma Jayne's menu has something for everyone. Our server, Drew, was informative and attentive. While we may make other food choices (skip the calamari and pretzel bun but keep the pot pie), we will definitely return. read more

Ambiance: Emma Jayne's feels like a cozy house turned restaurant. Inside, there's a homey bar to the left with bar seating, a couch area, and a few high tops. Behind the entrance, two dining rooms plus outdoor seating. On a busy Saturday night, the crowd skewed older with a few young couples on dates. Food: We tried the braised short rib and prime rib, both delicious, with fair portion sizes and prices. Bread and butter included. The espresso cheesecake? Absolutely fantastic. Service: We had a reservation but waited 10 minutes, which was understandable; they were packed! Everyone was friendly, and our waiter was personable. The food was more like a 3.5. Definitely not a 3, but not quite a 4. Please read on. We met friends here for dinner and it was an overall pleasant experience. It was prime rib night, which was a plus for one person in our party. However, it was VERY TOUGH and not very flavorful. He enjoyed the potato more than the prime rib. The chicken parm looked delicious and my friend really liked it. It was a large portion and she took half of it home. Penne à la vodka with chicken was another dish ordered and enjoyed! Also a large portion with leftovers! I ordered the burger with a GF bun. The meat was okay. It was cooked perfectly and was juicy, but didn't really have much flavor at all, unfortunately. I was hoping they'd use meat from the butcher shop right next door, but I definitely don't think that was the case! :-) However, the fries were quite tasty - perfectly cooked and salted! Service was friendly. But, the prime rib was served without a steak knife and I am not sure one was ever received. P.S. This is the second time in about 4 years that we've gone. The prime rib was not good the first time either, but he wanted to give it another chance. He won't be doing that again! We may or may not go back in the future to try other meals! read more

Cute atmosphere, great service (our server Carol was awesome) and food was all very good. We started with cocktails-seasonal sangria and an old fashioned. The stuffed mushroom app was really good with sausage and red peppers in seasoned breadcrumbs. We shared a roasted root vegetable sales which was huge. Plenty of roasted veggies, walnuts and crumbled blue cheese was a great honey tumeric dressing. I was finally able to try Emma Jayne's after hearing many great things about it and I'm sure glad that I did. With that being said, I started things with off the fried mozzarella and it was absolutely delicious. To explain, the breading was crunchy and tasted homemade. In addition, the cheese was very fresh and had the perfect amount of pull. To be honest, it was one of the best fried mozzarella's I've ever had. After that, I decided to order the lobster pot pie for my dinner. Knowing that, it was very good. To put into words, the crust of the pot pie was flaky with great flavor. Furthermore, the pot pie was loaded with lobster, shrimp, and scallops. All of these tasted fresh and tender. My only complaint about the dish was that the cream filling had a bit of a weird aftertaste, but it was still tasty. To finish, Emma Jayne's is a great restaurant and I highly recommend the fried mozzarella. read more

I tried Emma Jayne's for lunch, and was not disappointed. The ambiance walking in was festive and inviting. I was warmly greeted as I noticed how packed they were on a weekday. To me, it's always a good sign when I see lotsa diners. They have a nice menu selection that includes starters, soups, salads, entrees and sandwiches. Their portion size is generous and I only ate half so that I would have room for dessert. We had a prime rib Reuben and eggplant burger, delish! For dessert I ordered a slice of churro cake but unfortunately they were all out. In its place I had a nice Italian lemon cake and it was very good. I will have to return soon, for lunch or dinner cause it was very enjoyable. Hopefully I will get to sample their churro cake on my next visit. My recommendation is that you make a reservation here. We had never heard of this restaurant but some friends arranged to meet us there for dinner. The restaurant is much larger on the inside than it appears from the outside. We had reservations and hostess was very friendly and seated us promptly. I believe anyone could find a selection here as the menu is quite extensive. My wife and one of our companions ordered the scallops and both agreed they were prepared perfectly. The entree came with wild rice and vegetables. A perfect dish. Our other companion ordered the baked haddock and also remarked on how perfectly prepared it was. I ordered chicken parm and I was blown away by the size of it. It was the largest "slab" of chicken I have ever seen. It was wonderfully done came on a bed of penne. I can really pack away an entree but this item was so gargantuan that I had to take some home. 2 of our companions had chocolate lava cake and peanut butter pie for dessert. The service was super friendly and attentive. Overall this was a wonderful experience and we will most certainly be returning! read more

I was ready to back to this restaurant before I was even done with my meal. All of the food was fantastic and the portions for the price were so much better than a lot of restaurants these days. It's huge inside with also a big patio space outside. The atmosphere is casual fine dining. It's perfect for a date night but also good for families . Then we had the braised short ribs which was very tender, the aged pork chops either peaches and a short rib sandwich. All with very big portions. I love their Risotto with asparagus shrimp, scallops, and salmon . They give large portions too. My husband loves the beef dishes, fillet or the big chunk of beef over mash potatoes. It's a large restaurant with many choices. Also a bar area there with big burgers. Service is very good. Never had a problem there. You can choose booths or tables in the back room too. Was looking for a new place to try for date night. Saw this has 4 stars, made a reservation online for 6pm Saturday night. GPS guided us, just off the main road where we saw the only light on the side of the road (it was their sign on the building), with their own parking lot, which was very full and also very very dark. Walked into an open floor area, the one side is booths and tables, the other is the bar with high top chairs. Checked in at the hostess stand and were seated right away. Took the waiter at least 10 minutes to come over. Which we had never been there so it gave us time to over look the menu but in my opinion was too long of a wait to just get acknowledged. By the time he came we were ready to order drinks, apps and dinner. Once ordered the drinks and apps showed up in a responsible time. The food was lacking, the sauce for the short rib had okay flavor but the veggies were very very plain, no salt or pepper or even butter. The pumpkin spice polenta in my opinion ruined the whole dish. It was too much flavor on the plate, wasn't served warm or with any butter, should have been served with mashed potatoes or wedges just would have been better with the dish. Everything was very bland and plain. We never received any bread which I noticed after our meals were already packed up Togo. Left a disappointed in the meal to say the least. It took the waiter awhile once we had our meals packed up to deliver the check and then cash us out. Most likely to not return nor recommend. read more

Delicious meal while home visiting my family. My first time here, my family has been raving about their food and rightfully so. Cocktails were really good too. Service was amazing! I had the lobster pot pie as my main meal, very rich and tasty, loaded with big chunks of lobster. We started with Brussels sprouts and calamari apps which anyone loved. This restaurant has an interesting menu and the potential to be an awesome. That's why my husband wanted to take me there for lunch after checking out the menu online. However, we found that this dining experience came up short which is too bad. Most of the issues are fixable. For starters, we were greeted by a hostess who was aloof. She never said anything wrong. It was all in her demeanor. Perhaps she was having a bad day, but in the hospitality industry it's not good to look as though you're going just through the motions. We could see that she had to do some multitasking including slicing up citrus at the bar. When no one came by to refill our water glasses, we asked her for help and she did it herself. Perhaps she was exhausted due to staffing shortages and overdue for a vacation. My husband didn't like restaurant's color scheme either. It's gray both inside and out. He wasn't keen on the gray interior walls. I didn't mind them as much but they wouldn't have been my first choice. I think the owners might have thought that gray was cool or classy, but it gave off a vibe that was a bit unwelcoming. How was the food? It had the potential to be great but it fell short on freshness. I ordered a strawberry arugula salad. I loved the balsamic vignette dressing and the salad was delicious, but buried under the feta cheese were a lot of yellow past due arugula leaves. I'm pretty sure they tasted okay but they looked terrible so I picked them out. If you're going to charge me $20 for a salad, the least you could do is make sure the $3.00 worth of arugula was fresh. My husband's fish and chips had a similar problem. The fries were good and the beautiful fried batter on fish looked like something from a commercial. Unfortunately, the fish itself was dry and tasted a little off. It wasn't as fresh as it should have been. Management needs to rethink how to manage its stock. You can't fake freshness. I think that entree cost $23. On the bright side, we picked the last available booth which was comfy. It was after 1:30pm and the place was still busy with a clientele that was mostly made up of senior citizens. An entire Steely Dan album was played during our visit. I'm pretty sure most of the elderly customers knew the songs. If I had focused enough I bet I could have told which album it was. Overall, it wasn't a horrible meal. My husband, however, was so disappointed that I offered to pay the bill. That perked him up a bit but I don't think we're ever coming back. read more

However, the dishes here are either a hit or a miss The special appetizers calamari 1/5: literally barely had any squid in the batter. And it was 90% batter fried too hard. Would not reco getting this. The crab cake 3/5: was slightly better, had a good portion of crab meat but tasted a bit fishy but the pickle onions and arugula balances it out The main that I ordered was the seafood linguine pescatore 3/5: sauce was very bland, tasted like something I can make at home. However the seafood portion was pretty decent with the lobster tail, clams, mussels, and scallops. The clams was very disappointing it was almost nonexistent. Loved the scallops and lobster tail though They're also known for their chicken parm and it truly is very big which can feed about 3 people! That did mean service was slow but also ok. The calamari was a bit over fried and fishy but I liked the arugula on top. My salad with salmon was swimming in croutons that were left on the plate when I was done but the salmon was delicious. I enjoy a salad of only arugula so that was a nice touch. Always interested in a new Italian restaurant in the area. We tried Emma's and found there was a wait. Waiting area was near the bar with minimal seating. It appeared those who were also on the waiting list were enjoying cocktails and seated at the bar. Not one for drinking and driving, so I abstained. Once seated, we ordered side salads; fresh greens (didn't have to pick out the dead leaves). A bread basket was delivered before the meal. Food was good, but had to wait a bit for the food delivery. SO enjoyed the veal parm and I had the seafood pescatore. As with most Italian restaurants, there were left overs to enjoy the next day. Veal was not pounded to death (thankfully) and there was sufficient seafood in the pescatore. Both dishes appeared to have fresh pasta served with it. (Pasta was better on day 2 since it needed a little extra time in the pan.) Parking lot is quite spacious. Staff were very pleasant. May put this on our repeat list. read more

I'm visiting my husband who is up here for work and we were looking for a close local spot to eat and I found this place. It was more than I could have ever expected. I got the maple bacon Brussels sprouts and steak frites and he got the fish and chips and the food was INCREDIBLE. Honestly -- 4.5 Stars for food Decor and ambience -- 5 stars (We liked the photos of the adorable namesake) Lunch today with my husband and daughter. We had the baby in his stroller, so the hostess kindly took us to an isolated table in the large almost empty back room; it was perfect!!! The cool air and subdued walls were not only calming but attractive as well. The tables were spaced apart which was nice. My daughter had the Risotto topped with Salmon and Scallops. It was a great choice! Delicious, flavorful and perfectly cooked. She loved it. I ordered an $12. appetizer--eggplant stack to share. It was okay not great. Too much tomato sauce. I had the New England Bake ($31.) --some lobster pieces, nice scallops, and shrimp breaded and broiled with butter. An excess of salt on the seafood dulled the flavors in my opinion. However, the mashed potatoes were excellent. The vegetables were steamed carrots and broccoli and would have been enhanced by some seasoning. I wanted the Seafood Pescatore over Linguini, but it was only offered during dinner hours which I understand. I asked for bread and was willing to pay extra, but our attentive server said he would bring some warm rolls and flavored butter to our table. It was very nice of him, and it added to the enjoyment of our lunches. My husband had the Veal Parm which he liked very much. He said it was tender and flavorful. Visiting customers in the area and I found this gem. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. The only down check was the 90s reunion band that played too loud and too long. A minor down check but the food and drink more than made up for it. I look forward to visiting here again when I'm in the area. read more
