Terrible service and unprofessional. I ordered a Chicken Shawarma that was not prepared according to the way I had ordered and paid for yesterday June 30, 2026. I realized the order was wrong when I got back to work in Troy. I phoned the restaurant and spoke to the Manager who was professional and apologetic for the error. He stated that he would leave a note for the staff to make me another sandwich the correct way for me to pick up the next day on July 1, 2026. I called the restaurant today to inform them of the conversation I had with the manager. The female worker inquired on the time that I would arrive, and I told her at 12:15 p.m. I arrived at the restaurant at 12:23 due to traffic, and the sandwich had not begun to be prepared. A young lady with a fair complexion and two-toned curly hair seemed to have had an attitude. She slowly walked over to the food station to write my food ticket at 2:25 p.m. and placed behind the other orders. The guy who was supposed to be making the sandwiches was tall with tattooed arms wearing royal blue underwear that was showing due to his sagging pants was instead having a personal conversation instead of preparing my food. Their lack of professionalism and nonchalant attitude about performing their work made me late returning back to work from my 30-minute lunch break just to find the sandwich was again incorrect. I felt they intentionally treated me poorly because they were angry about having to remake the sandwich. I will NEVER return to the Royal Oak location, and after reading all of the negative reviews I do not understand why that particular location is still open for business. read more

(April/2025), They forgot to include an additional sandwich we had ordered along with a side of sour cream. 3. (June/2025, June 1st ~ 5pm, we open our large chicken shawarma salad only to find 2 long black hairs, which I had just set aside. BUT, after my wife spotted a short black her when making her plate, that was it! After a long day, the last thing someone wants is to "go back to the restaurant" for them to remake it, which they did and it was fine. We also ordered a curly fries which was fine - no issues there. The chicken at this place is often tasty, but man oh man, I am VERY disappointed at how things have changed. Lower quantity of chicken in the large shawarma salad compared to before, sometimes dry, sometimes too salty, and with that, a higher price! So sad. Good business 5 years ago, less than average business today. Please change management, improve customer service/food prep. It needs a good shakeup! First--this review is for the Bucharest at the intersection of Woodward and 13 Mile in the big new commercial area near Beaumont. There is a separate grouping of reviews about this same place with Woodward address, so be alert to that. We had been wanting to come here and finally made it. We ordered chicken and lamb shwarma, as well as fatoush salad. The chicken shwarma was fantastic! Cannot wait to go back and have another one. Lamb shwarma was good, and the fatoush was fair. Now the less great things. Service is extremely casual. For example, we asked to have the table wiped off and the server laconically said, " I got you," as he walked away to wipe a different table and chit chat with another server. Promptly wiping it, after smiling and saying "Yes I am happy to," would have been preferrable. Also, the food is all served with paper and plastic utensils. No silverware, no plates (not even plastic), and not place mats. We were eating in, so we had to use napkins as "plates." I urge you to provide plastic plates to those dining in! And also consider wrapping your shwarmas in parchment like they wrap philly cheesesteaks in. Your packaging needs to be better!! Should you go? Yes run over there quick and get a chicken sharma! What the heck! Not sure why all the negative reviews. I had a chicken shawarma salad from here for delivery and I thought it was good, filling, and a generous portion for the price. Sure it's not like it was the world's most luxurious salad but considering I paid like $10 for it I certainly can't complain. Dressing was good as well and was on the side which I liked. Fries were a little soggy when I got them but chalking that up to the delivery - and they were still totally edible and again, a massive portion for the price. Bucharest downtown is one of my favorite spots to get an inexpensive, flavorful bite to eat. I happen to be in Royal Oak I wanted to check out the new location. I got the chicken Shawarma salad and my husband got a falafel sandwich. It had tons of chicken and lots of lettuce, not quite as many pita chips as I would've expected they thought that usually has cucumber but I only saw one. It's fairly new, I get it, but it seems to still need a bit of work on the getting the food out quicker as well as the quality of the food, it's average. I have only taken out a chicken shawarma. I want to start out by saying the sandwiches were delicious. I was surprised I enjoyed them so much. They are huge, but like a Subway sandwich, which makes them a great value. They also gave us a heaping serving of curly fries the with the one box meal we ordered. I would completely get those again. We had two chicken shawarma, a lamb shawarma , and a Bucharest shawarma. They were not too expensive and worth coming back for even though we do have an abundance of choices around our area. We also ordered the fattoush salad. That was a bit disappointing compared to what I am used to eating. They did include a lot of fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, and green peppers, but they only included literally three pita chips on the side of the salad and one tiny oily dressing for an entire family and a large portion of salad. I could get a Trader Joe's fattoush inspired salad for less and have more flavor and toppings. I would not come back for the salad. We also ordered a garlic dip appetizer. When we looked through our order we saw that they forgot the appetizer. We went back and they demanded they we bring back our entire food order to show them/ prove to them that they did not give us our entire order. It was a bit insulting. I've never experienced a restaurant doubting that they forgot some food and that they made the error. We are honest people and would not lie to get a free appetizer. They also forgot our extra pita bread that we ordered. We had to bring back all of the food to get what we paid for and they did not even offer an apology. We were instead treated rudely, which put us off and soured the experience of trying a new restaurant. The garlic dip ended up being pretty good, but I would not get it here again, I would probably buy it from other places for a bit less. Plus it was not quite as strong of a flavor as we are used to. I had heard a lot of good things about the food and this place was featured on TV shows on the Food Network and were featured online, so I had been very excited. It was worth the hype, at least the shawarmas were, but the customer service left us a bit deflated. After reading other reviews it sounds like this is more of the rule than the exception. While a couple in the family are set on not coming back, I would come here again for a sandwich and hope to encounter less problems in the future. But as stated earlier, there are a plethora of shawarma options, so please take care of your customers with kindness. read more

I placed an order for three shawarmas and two orders of fries and the order came out within 15 minutes and they seemed busy! I ordered two beef shawarmas and a chicken. If I'm being completely honest, something didn't taste right, my boyfriend agrees. He was so excited to have a Bucharest right down the street from us but something tastes sour and the pita was completely falling apart by the time we got it home, and we live less than 5 minutes away. We were not a big fan of the shawarmas, but the curly fries were super good! We didn't like the shawarmas but others might feel different! The shawarma was packed with meat for such a good deal! The store is very clean and the staff was mildly friendly. They seemed pretty busy. But I was very disappointed on my first visit. I ordered the lamb shawarma. It was chewy and had A LOT of fat! I wanted shoestring fries but that's not what I got... they were just regular ol' fries... And I most of the staff including cooks and food preparers had masks on properly. I'm really surprised by all the negative reviews! This was my first time at this location and the food didn't disappoint at ALL! I ordered 4 different chicken shawarmas and the order was 100% correct. I also got a side of hummus and pita chips and the hummus was sooo good! Garlicky, creamy heaven! But back to the shawarma! They were more than filling (I actually got two meals out of mine)! The chicken was flavorful (not too salty), and the garlic sauce, tomato, and pickles were aplenty. Bucharest is still one of my favorite places for shawarma and this location didn't disappoint. The only negative was that the order, which I placed through their website, too a little longer than the time quoted, but it was well worth the wait. But the staff was friendly and they were definitely moving as quickly as possible to triage mobile and in-person orders. I unrolled my shwarma and checked out the insides, lots of fat, overcooked dry meat, nothing appetizing. I tried a bite of the best looking meat, it was still tough and not a good flavor. The curly fries are good and a large portion. However, that's not a lunch. So I find myself still hungry after snacking on the pickles and some fries. Totally bummed, I hate when I try a new place only to have it be a bust, and leaving me with nothing to eat.
