    Lunch with my buddy!
    Angela S.

Don't get me wrong-- the ambiance is spectacular, location is convenient, especially if you are staying in the hotel. And service was excellent, albeit we were the only people in the seating area. We came for Madison Restaurant week and our meal was good. But regular menu had $18 for a fancy grilled cheese?! Wow. Menu is extremely limited without vegan or vegetarian options. Maybe dinner is a different story, but lunch was slim. I don't think I'll make it back there.

Loved the food, decor, and ambience of this place. It's very new and fresh and well put together Didn't know it was a hotel restaurant till we got there. Located inside the Hilton Hotel, this place is amazing. I recommend checking this place out for tasty appetizers, pizzas, drinks and awesome service. Must must try the Popcorn Shrimp, Fried Pickles and Wisconsin Cheese Curds. The pizzas were really good and so was the chicken sandwich. The service was excellent and we enjoyed our late night dinner there.

We were busy having lunch in town and checking out the art fair on the square which had us walk right past the Hilton so on the way out we thought a grown up cocktail from the hotel bar would be nice. The bar is literally in the lobby as you walk in and it's small but nice. We didn't get a drink menu but we asked what cocktail do you suggest and a raspberry something was popular at the moment and we ordered one with a martini. The woman working the bar was fantastic and very professional with a non stop smile that was very genuine. She spent time talking to us because the bar was pretty empty with one couple besides us which was nice. She was making our cocktails with a chilled glass first than she shook it front of us and poured a fresh cocktail, nice presentation. That raspberry cocktail was very delicious and a nice stop I will say. I will say that it was nice to just chill in the hotel bar for one drink because it was a great experience for us before moving on with the weekend.

We stopped in here because of the cool interior photos we saw on Yelp. We really enjoyed the Audrey burger - it was tasty, and grilled just right. But that's about it. There was only 1 person working that evening, which is fine, but her attention was focused on the game that was on TV and one other patron she was engaging in conversation. We seemed to be an afterthought at best. We were a party of 3, but I'm not sure why we were seated in a booth clearly for 2 people. I would also like to call out that the chicken churros is really more like a dessert than an appetizer. It is dusted with a lot of sugar. This is not a criticism, just a call out if you were thinking it would be more on the savory side. It is not. Also, we wanted to try the croquettes and they had just run out. Bummer! For these reasons, I'm giving 2 stars. Had the service been better, I would have given 3 stars.

Thought I'd try something new in the downtown area so stopped here for lunch. The restaurant was mostly empty. We were able to order very quickly - I will say our server was excellent, very kind and attentive. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty our food took about 40 minutes (not an exceedingly long wait time, but worth mentioning given how few people were there). The food was the real disappointment. I ordered the salmon rillettes which really was a mistake. The item was $20 for an underwhelming spread. I'd expect the salmon to come with some better bread like crostini but this was basic sandwich bread. The bacon (while plenty of it) was thin and undercooked. The arugula was just dressed with olive oil, salt + pepper so added nothing to the meal. The whole thing felt lacking. My partner ordered the burger. It was serviceable but nothing special, as were the fries. Both were room temperature. Overall not at all impressed with the lunch offerings here. I try to give places more than one chance but I doubt I'll come back here.

We had bfast right before leaving. I waited a couple of minutes to be seated, and when I was seated, it took quite a bit of time to be waited on. When I was finally waited on, I ordered the pancakes, bacon, hash browns and over easy eggs. When my food came out, my eggs were over cooked, but it took over 5 mins for me to get someone's attention. When I finally did, the male server took my eggs and it took another 10 mins to get my eggs. By that time, I was done eating and they never brought out my hash browns. Overall, I'll probably be go somewhere else next time.

    Northern breakfast bowl.

Okay this review might be a little bit of rambling but I promise it's informative! Let's start with that we were there for breakfast on a Saturday morning when a dance comp was in the hotel, meaning it was SLAMMED. Basically every table full. I think we got lucky being only two people so we were sat at what seemed like one of the only small tables. The service was 10/10 all things considered, our waiter was Shubham (im so sorry if I spelled you name wrong I was too nervous to ask you to show me ur tag) he was so kind! He made me an iced latte even though the lattes aren't iced standardly! Waters were never empty. They were all on top of refills as a team On to food; it did take about 40 minutes and then a few items were cold. This seemed to be an issue with the tiny robot man who delivers everything he's not particularly zippy. We got several items to try I'll list them in order from best to worst in me and my fiancés opinion the Northern breakfast bowl thing was the best item we had, the potato's were so crisp, the sauce was so delicious, the sausage slightly spicy, the only bad part of this item was the cold tomatoes, probably should replace them with something more suited like the tomato jam on that's already on menu. Next we had the blueberry lemon pancakes, these things needed no syrup they were so sweet and soft and the lemon glaze was peak. The only thing that could have made these better was instead of three fresh blueberries on top, a small dollop of blueberry compote. Next was a bowl of fresh fruit!! Not a single bad piece, our waiter also knew off hand the exact types of fruit in the mix that was impressive to me. The worst item we had was the chicken biscuit, unfortunately it was dry, and the cheese didn't make much sense, I cook a lot and my advice would be to switch to thighs (I believe this was breast meat) and to marinade them every night in buttermilk and seasonings. Ambiance was not good but that was because of the 900 little girls in full makeup full of caffeine running around the building. That is really our fault for not calling and figuring today would be the best day to go XD So overall for a Saturday this place gets 4 stars, had food been hotter, and there had been less children it would have been 5/5 I just figure i should include it as this is the risk of visiting the hotel restaurants. I've attached several photos!!!

    Why it's called Audrey!

Yes, I know hotel restaurants are often not that great. But, one of my favorites stops in Madison happens to be a hotel restaurant, so ... instead of going to my fave I decided to venture out and give another place a chance. Unfortunately, wasn't as good. But not a terrible time, either! There is a small bar area or a bigger restaurant with tables at The Audrey. It was nice they had affordable wine that was a decent pour, it was Mondavi. I had a couple of appetizers for dinner. The crab and corn cakes were very small and I don't go for fruit with crab cakes so didn't eat the fruit salsa with it, but the other sauce (like tartar) was good and the cakes themselves were quite tasty, I must say. The other app, though, chili con queso strangely seemed nothing like a cheese dip. And it had to many pepper chunks. It wasn't enjoyable at all, really. It may take a nice pic, but taste is bland and lacking. Not sure I'd go back when I have a favorite hotel restaurant spot that rarely disappoints and so many restaurant options in the vicinity already.

    The market salad

My friends and I received two restaurant week vouches to use at The Audrey in January. Our server was helpful in getting us seated with drinks and taking our orders right away. We sat down at about 6:30 and didn't receive our first course until 7:10. Our salad had butternut squash, candied nuts, apples, goat cheese, and a honey vanilla vinaigrette. I'd recommend changing the vinaigrette component of the salad, as it was very sweet and the overwhelming flavor was vanilla. It then took another 40 minutes to receive the pasta, which in all honestly was very disappointing. The pasta itself was not boiled, just pan fried (and overcooked). The brown butter sauce was non existent, and the mushrooms were rubber. The last course came out a little faster but was also disappointing, as the overall flavor was alcohol. Our server did the best they could with how slow the kitchen was that night, and was very kind and patient. Unfortunately, we weren't the only ones left disappointed with our food, as tables next to us asked if we enjoyed our dishes and some even left the restaurant. I'm hoping that The Audrey can find more staff so that their quality of food and dining experience can increase. This meal unfortunately was not what I expected to have during an event like Madison Restaurant week.

    Fried Wisconsin Cheese Curds

Didn't realize this restaurant was in a hotel, but otherwise it was nice. The decor is new and fresh. Had the cheese curds which did not disappoint, and were generous serving, as well as chicken panini wrap which was very good. Loved that it tasted like panini but was in a wrap. Was different and very good. We were here for early dinner to restaurant was empty, but service was good. Also enjoyed a very tasty mule cocktail.

We were a little disappointed in the wait because there were some empty tables around, which showed that Merchant was not extremely slammed, but we wanted to give benefit of the doubt. Fried Cheese Curds tasted alright. We probably got the unlucky batch though, because halfway through eating them, we had dime-sized cheese curds. It certainly didn't feel like we got a full appetizer size of cheese curds because of this. I think typically the smaller cheese curds are at the end of the dish, but here it felt like we had it for 50% of the dish. The Merchant Burger was alright, but nothing to wow my senses. The black pepper aioli was delicious though, but it felt like that was what was saving the burger. Not pictured was the Floral G&T drink, which tasted delicious. Overall: giving this place 3 stars because it wasn't amazing, but it was OK. The interior is beautiful though, but food and service were below our expectations.

We had reservations, so we were seated right away which was a plus. Also, I will say I don't think any of the issues we had were because of our waitress. She was super friendly and quick enough to take our orders on a day when there restaurant seemed full enough, but manageable. We got our drink orders in and our food at the same time to speed up the process for getting little kids food, and the waitress even took note of that. We also ordered an appetizer to help during the wait. It took a while for the drinks to come out, but they were all rather tasty. I think my apple cider mocktail was the best and refreshing since it was getting hot in the restaurant with the sun beating in. Our food however took forever and the kids meals did not come out any earlier than everyone else. One person in our group also initially didn't get his meal, which the waitress apologized and said there was a mixup in the kitchen. That's fine, it happens, but then the staff running meals tried to bring him the wrong order 3 times. The rest of us were all finished eating by the time he finally got his food. Overall, the food was fine. I got the eggs benedict which was a little underdone on the eggs for me as the whites were too runny for me. The kids chicken nuggets were pretty tasty with a flaky breading. I heard decent reviews of the breakfast burger, but the thing that was the best to us was the breakfast sandwich. It was quite messy, but the messiness of the sauce was worth it. We also got an appetizer of the cinnamon roll. I feel like it's a little mislabeled though, as it was more like a morning bun with some frosting/glaze over the top. Tasted pretty good and helped keep kids entertained for a while. Overall, the food was fine, but the experience wasn't great. With the multiple mixups in orders and getting a little green house effect going with the sun shining in, there wsnt a great feeling when leaving. Again, I don't think it was our waitresses fault, so not sure what was going on in the kitchen.

Situated on the corner of Doty and King in downtown Madison, Great Dane is a welcome sight for any visitor or local looking for a chill spot to have a solid drink, tasty bite and/or a good time! The pub is one large space, but it is separated into a few unique areas. One side is quintessential pub with a long bar, lots of dark woods, and a good sized dining room. The other is more of a pool hall vibe where you will find the other side of the bar, several pool tables, lots of TV's, high tops, darts, etc...We have bellied up to both sides of the bar and while I like both sides, I prefer the vibe of the pub side. I will grab a beer on occasion, but the cocktails are too good to pass up! Service is always stellar here whether we are sat in the dining room or bellied up to the bar. Overall, absolutely in love The Weary Traveler Freehouse!

The menu is filled with elevated pub food, a few classics and then a few twists on those very classics. Come hinge, because the menu is carb-driven, so be ready to eat! To start, we went with the poutine, because why not! The fries were crispy, gravy was velvety and the curds were firm, yet melty enough for a good cheese pull! For our mains, we both went sandwiches. I went with the Celtic Burger, which is their standard burger with added caramel iced onion, whiskey bacon jam, Irish cheddar and a garlic aioli. The burger was good and cooked well, but it was less impressive than I expected given all the goods they added to it. While the aforementioned additions sound like a flavor bomb, it was still fairly one note in overall flavor. It was still tasty, but again, not as expected. My buddy went with the corned beef sandwich. He enjoyed it, no major issues! I did appreciate that exchanging fries with fried curds was an option, especially after loaded up on fries as a starter. The curds were well fried, pillowy and quite tasty. Perfect side for sure! In addition to the food, they are known for their bar offerings so you know we had to grab a few cocktails! I went with the Golden Dew and my buddy the Old Fashioned. Golden Dew was delightful, however the old fashioned was a bit sweet, but that's possibly the brandy. Service was great. We walked in and hit the wait list, however was able to scoop up a few seats at the bar before our table was ready. The bartenders were friendly, helpful and an overall joy to interact with. Overall, definitely a fan of The Coopers Tavern! When back in Madison, I would certainly swing by again!

I decided to get the grilled cheese with tomato soup and a side salad. It was plenty enough food. Somebody who seemed like he was in charge took my coat for me, which was really sweet and hung it up. The waiters were really attentive, and even though the grilled cheese has made my hand sticky it's given additional napkins to help with the stickiness I would return here definitely for lunch. I was one of the only few people in here, but I did go for an 11 AM lunch.
