I haven't been here in ages, but I had a great time. This was a special event of Blues Grass music put on by Guitar Masters. It was a tribute to the 100th birthday of Earl Scruggs with the California Bluegrass Allstars. Such talented musicians playing music that is very much a part of American history. It was a sold out concert and the place was packed. My server was very sweet and attentive, unfortunately I forgot to get her name. They had a limited menu for the event. I ordered the onion rings. OMG they were gigantic! They had a panko crust & were crunchy & delicious! Served with a Ranch dressing. I had some delicious red wine as well. What a great time was had by all. read more

Went here to show a newbie to Bakes what Bakersfield is all about. We toured the museum, ate dinner, and watched the live music. The staff was friendly, as well as Buck's son who was performing later in the evening. I'm giving it 4 stars for the price and quality. I have driven through Bakersfield and past the Crystal Palace my entire life. I finally stopped and was so smitten by this place that I have brought others and have made it an annual Valentines trip. Well I have been wanting to come here for the Longest time, but I never come to Bakersfield. If I go to LA or Las Vegas, I usually fly. So when I had work down here, I thought knows my chance. Our server was exceptional with service, I ordered the Don Rich 10oz cooked to perfection, the Green Beans were delicious with the bacon. The Mash Potatoes and Gravy were phenomenal. The gravy tasted just like it was made from the Chicken Fried Steak Oil, and not some run of the Mill Powder Pack. What I did have an issue with is that my server came back and said my card was declined and she said she ran it twice. I told her impossible, so she went to the bar and ran it again.. Declined.. She went to the Gift Shop and it went through.. I woke up the next day to check my finances and I had 4 charges on my bill well over $100 a piece. Now I am a tad disappointed because I really been wanting to come here for years, really excited to experience it, the music, the dancing, the Statues and The History of someone who I grew up watching on TV, and finding out more about him through music. Wow! What an absolute gem! Walking into The Crystal Palace is a step back in time, through the history of country music and "the Bakersfield Sound"! Memorabilia from Buck Owens' life is omnipresent, but the larger-than-life statues of The King, Willie, The Man in Black, George Jones and more are appreciated too. The music was delightful, yet unobtrusive. We never felt like we had to make a choice between listening to the music or yelling to our fellow diners. Conversations were easy, and we'd simply pause when we wanted to hear the musicians. I had a bowl of Buck's Famous Chili, followed by what is probably the best chicken fried steak I've ever had. Taking care of us throughout our evening, and quite literally our favorite part of the night, was Rhaya! Equal parts experience, funny anecdotes and sass, she's everything you could want in a server at The Crystal Palace. She kept things moving, drinks filled and a smile on our faces. The tip line suggests "good", "excellent" and "great" service; Rhaya is simply "superior" service. Anytime we come back, we'll be asking for her section! On the way out, don't forget some merch! I was pleasantly surprised when we had dinner here. First timers and we would come back. I don't know how long this place has been here but it looks brand new. It's clean and the entertainment was very good. The band they had performing was upbeat and got the crowd to dance everything from line dancing to slow dancing. I loved the museum artifacts all throughout the restaurant/band area. Lots of bronze life size statues of various artists. The food was very good. I had the halibut which was delicious. Our friends had the chicken fried steak (huge) and they mentioned they would order it again. The service was very good. The gals were friendly and very helpful when we had questions about the menu. The proportion seemed smaller than what we remember however it was still really good. The venue had two live bands. We left when the second started because it didn't seem appropriate for our kids. Howdy folks. How's everyone on Planet Yelp doing? Buck Owens. What can I say? Country music legend. No let me stop right there. MUSIC LEGEND! I've been wanting to visit the Buck Owens Crystal Palace for quite sometime now and last week I finally got my chance. So now I'm going to tell all of you fellow Yelpers all about it. So strap on your safety belts because this rocket ship is about to blast off. Destination Bakersfield, California. Now when you search Buck Owens Crystal Palace online you'll find that it's listed as a music venue. But this place is much more than just a music venue. It's a music venue, restaurant, bar, and museum all rolled into one. Oh and let's not forget about the gift shop. You can't visit the Buck Owens Crystal Palace without picking up a tee shirt. Well, I guess you could. But I had to get me a tee shirt to take home with me. I arrived at the Crystal Palace around 7:30pm. I was meeting a guy that I had been chatting with on the Facebook dating app who just happened to be in Bakersfield. He was running a bit late. So the hostess led me to a table for two in the bar. One of the first things I noticed was the white convertible with longhorns on the hood. A lot of people think it's a Cadillac. But this is actually a 1972 Pontiac Grandville built for Elvis Presley. Apparently Buck Owens won it at a poker tournament in Las Vegas. But who really knows. Ol' Buck is a little hard to get a hold of these days. While I waited for my date to arrive, I decided to start my Crystal Palace experience off with a Buck U Margarita. This is the signature house Margarita and let me tell you, this Margarita was gooooooood! For those of you have been following me on Yelp will know, I am a big Margarita lover. I guess ol' Buck himself must've been a fan of Margaritas as well because this was a mighty delicious cocktail. It had just the right mixture of flavors to give it a sweet taste that was strong enough to give me a decent, but not overbearing, buzz. I would recommend the Buck U Margarita for anyone that appreciates a good Marg. So my date finally arrived and joined me at my table. We started off with the garlic flavored chicken wings as an appetizer. These were some pretty damn good chicken wings. Some restaurants treat appetizers as if they are second class citizens. So it can really be hit or miss when it comes to things like chicken wings. But the Crystal Palace chicken wings were cooked just right and had the right amount of garlic coating to give them a favorable taste. Now let's get into the main meal. I went with the New York Steak and ordered it cooked rare. That's right. I like my steaks bloody as Hell. To me a steak is the most favorable when it's cooked rare. I've never understood the concept of ordering a steak well done. To me that just takes away all those juicy flavors. But the thing I've found when ordering a steak cooked rare is that some places either under or overcook it. Kind of like with the Buck U Margarita, this steak had the right balance of flame and rawness if that at all makes. Well, whether or not it does, the Crystal Palace served up a mighty fine steak that settled well in "Nasty" belly. Something else I'd like to mention is the fries. Now the New York Steak here doesn't come with fries. It's actually served with green beans and mashed potatoes. But I substituted mine for the seasoned fries. Let me tell you something. These were some damn good fries. I know that when it comes to fries a lot of people don't put a lot of thought into them. It's just like, "throw in some fries." But the Crystal Palace fries added so much to the overall dinner. They looked and tasted good. I actually started eating the fries before I dived into my steak. Now something that I usually bring up before talking about the food, is the service. The service here at the Crystal Palace was fantastic. Our server was friendly and attentive and on point with everything. For example, I ordered a side of ranch to go with my steak. I can't count the number of times that I've been at places where my food will arrive and the side that I asked for will be missing. That kind of stuff is annoying because now instead of being able to dive right into my meal, I have to wait for the server to come back with the side I ordered. But this was not the case at the Crystal Palace. Our server got it right the first time. I really dig that. All in all my experience at the Crystal Palace was absolutely fabulous. Everything from the groovy atmosphere to the attentive service to the delicious cocktails and the amazing food, this place definitely lived up to my "Nasty" expectations. So if you ever find yourself in Bakersfield and want to dine in a place that is truly unique, I highly recommend that you visit the Buck Owens Crystal Palace. You won't be disappointed. A group of 6 of us met for dinner with Johnny Owens performing, which turned out to be really special since he's Buck Owens's youngest son (and has a great voice with a really solid band). We were seated at a table on the upper level, giving us a good view of the band and the dancefloor (without being too "in the middle of everything"). Once we placed our drink and food orders, we had plenty of time to walk around the room and check out the museum exhibits in the glass cases on all the surrounding walls--fascinating history and lots of interesting artifacts. I especially loved the "Nudiemobile"--a huge car hanging on the wall behind the bar! I ordered the steak salad (medium rare) with blue cheese dressing. The steak was a little overcooked and dry for my taste and I could've used more dressing, but overall it was well-composed and a solid choice since I didn't want a whole steak. I also ordered a side of mashed potatoes, which was huge and really delicious (they kept the skins on, which I love). I was happy to share those with others at the table. Buck Owens' Crystal Palace is quite the place. From the colorful exterior, to the memorabilia inside. If you're a fan of Buck Owens, The Bakersfield Sound, or country music in general Buck Owens' Crystal PaIace should be included on your to-do list. We recently attended the New Years Eve event and enjoyed our outing with friends. The ticket price of $100 included dinner and entertainment. While it was satisfactory and we did have fun, the food was sub-par. I opted for the prime rib, but the meat was dry and lacked the juicy tenderness that a good prime rib should have. It was also clear that the dish had been sitting out for a while before being served, as it was cold to the touch. I was hoping for a savory and flavorful meal, but unfortunately, this prime rib missed the mark. The saving grace was our delightful server. She was lively and friendly and kept us on our toes. I really wish this place would improve, even just slightly, in their food service. It would be a home run of an event space then. read more

Concert venues are not known to have good food. It's usually numerous fried options washed down by the coldest of beers. Due to this assumption, the Crystal Palace blew us away. Waltzing in at 7:25, we knew the kitchen closed at 7:30. In haste I ordered the Filet Mignon, a dinner salad and rolls. Omg! We are not strangers to a good cut of beef and have dined at many of the top steakhouses. Who would have thought that Buck's place exceeded them all! What a pleasant surprise! The entertainment for the evening was really good; got the crowd dancing on the dance floor and having a good time. Musicians did a great job. However the food and the service was mediocre. I know they were busy; but food took awhile to receive ; and when it came out was lukewarm and not very tasty. Felt like I should of brought a packet of Mrs. Dash with me. The potato skins; barley had any toppings , which was a huge disappointment. The mini chimis were good, just overpriced. If you are going in Hungry during the dinner hour, have a snack before you get there. The night we were there, 5/2/25 the LIMITED staff was working diligently to serve customers, but they are stretched THIN! Our drinks came fairly quickly, however the food took well over an hour to arrive after ordering. We were a party of 4. As an avid country music fan, I can say the music was very good, but seated on the first floor, it was so loud all of our ears were ringing when we left early. This was not the same Crystal Palace when Buck Owens was alive. The food was no better than a Denny's restaurant at a HIGH price. I have no intentions of ever returning. My two stars are solely about the food, which has gone downhill significantly. Ambiance is great...it's the Crystal Palace after all. Service is fair. But the food. I have ordered the steak salad for years. It has always come with four or five really big kabob- type pieces of perfectly charbroiled steak on top of a great green salad with crispy croutons and tomatoes---super delicious. Tonight, it was really pitiful, basically awful. It's still my same ole steak salad on the menu, but what I got tonight was about two tablespoons, four of the smallest bites, of ROAST on top of my salad. And most of my croutons were soggy even though my salad didn't have dressing on it yet. I basically just paid $25 for a green salad with a sprinkle of roast beef and some wet bread on top. To be even more honest about our experience, our waitress misheard my order and brought me out the wrong meal all together (she apologized, it was a mistake), and I then waited over 30 minutes for my correct meal to come---just a simple simple steak salad! And that steak is no longer grilled to order so I don't know why it took so long. At this point, my husband had long ago finished his meal. Then randomly, about 10 minutes after I get my correct meal, another "steak" salad is brought out to me (some confusion in the kitchen who knows??) and I decline it. They insist I take it since it was their mistake again, but honestly, I didn't even want it, there or to-go. We may be eating elsewhere ahead of the shows if the food continues down this path. Food was amazing. So delicious and the portions sizes are very generous. My only complaints about the food were that the biscuits were too hard and the prices were on the high end. The ambiance was really awesome. They had a live country music band playing on the Thursday night I was there. The dance floor was alive with a line dancing group and regular dancers as well. The service was good but a little bit on the slow end. After dinner we spent another 15-20 minutes just looking at all the country music memorabilia and it was very nostalgic for me and my friends. I would highly recommend that you come visit this country music icon of Bakersfield. So glad this place reopened and it seems like it's better than ever! I had the country fried steak, my other party members had steak, baby back ribs and the salmon. As appetizers we had hot wings and onion rings. All received rave reviews from our party. Carley was the best server. She was training Tiffany who was wonderful also. They were able to accommodate and handle our party of 8 after the hostess tried to sit us four at one table and four at a separate table. Ambiance of course was great! We came while the fair was going but the place was jumping. My uncle loved the music and overall experience that the palace provided. He left wanting to return again, when back in Bakersfield. Food was served quickly. My aunt asked for mashed with her fish instead of chips and it was more like a scoop of butter sized portion, only a minor blip for our night. We all left full and happy. Even when walking out the hostess was kurt. I don't feel we were treated well by the front end hostess but the ladies who helped us in the restaurant were top notch! You definitely want to make a reservation, especially if you have a large group. This review is strictly about the museum part of Buck Owens Crystal Palace. I would have loved to have eaten there, but we had just finished breakfast and wanted to check the place out before we left town. As we were looking through the museum I was looking at all of the great food they were serving, and I already made a mental note to go back there and have breakfast or brunch. To be fair, I am not a huge fan of country music. Although when I was growing up watching Hee Haw on TV was a staple of my childhood. So I was very familiar with Buck Owens from an early age. One thing I didn't know, was how expensive his career was, how many famous people he had played with, and what an amazing influence he had on music. Even if you're not a fan of country music, this museum will hold your attention for the duration of your visit. There are so many wonderful artifacts spanning an amazing career of an amazing musician. There are some great guitars on display, lots of signed memorabilia from other artists, and of course, a lot of stuff from the Hee Haw days. I'm not going to do too many spoilers, or post a lot of pictures, as you really do need to go and experience this place for yourself. It's really great to see someone who has such a positive influence on so many people over the years. I highly recommend this place, and I will update it after I have brunch there and they're not too distant future. Bottom line? You really should go and check this place out as it has a lot to offer.
