One of the reasons I love to visit Chops Steakhouse is because of the bread assortment they offer, especially the amazing raisin pecan bread. So delicious, especially when warm! I learned recently of the connection between Chops and the Buckhead Bread Company (didn't realize it was part of the Buckhead Life group) and lo and behold, they sell my beloved raisin pecan bread right in the retail bakery cases, though it doesn't come cheap at more than $6 per loaf! None the less, I am in heaven and have been enjoying it for breakfast every day this week. It makes it more affordable when you shop toward the end of the day (they are only open until 3:30) and you can buy a loaf of any bread at full price and get a second loaf for $2. Now, the raisin pecan bread is excluded for the $2 portion, but it can still count as the full price first loaf. For my second loaf, I bought a "parisienne" basically a slightly thicker and chewier version of a baguette- authentic tasting and holds up well for several days, rather than only 1 day for a skinny baguette. The cupcakes are fantastic and put the ones at Magnolia Bakery in NYC to shame in terms of moisture content! The red velvet cupcake was superb when I tried it during my first visit to Buckhead bread Company several weeks ago. My only quibble is with the parking lot which gets exceptionally full on weekends and it is difficult to find a space to run in and pick up bread quickly. read more

I was here quite awhile ago, however, I've been meaning to make mention of the cheese grits this place has. First, please note that I am originally from Jersey but now live in New England. New Englanders apparently believe they know how to make good grits... HELLS NO they don't! All this time I've been thinking grits were some soupy concoction with bits of something-or-other in it. Grains? Rice? Whatever. If the grits you are eating are soupy and you are at the Cracker Barrel in New England, take heed and step back from your plate. New Englanders are good at clam chowda... not grits. Good eating space however, the windows are a-plenty so there's no dodging paparazzi here. Reasonable prices and big dishes. My first time here and I'm loving their baked detectable. The food was ok, the cafe au lait was ok; not worth coming back for that in particular. I had a fresh fruit cheesecake and tiramisu to go and both were amazingly delicious. Nice generous portions for the price! What? No mustard available for my sandwich.... I was downtown one Saturday with my family and wanted to have a picnic at a local park so decided to go to the Buckhead Bread Company and get some sandwiches for take out. All the sandwiches were pre-made and in packages. Not a problem, until... I was about to pay for four sandwiches (which were just meat, bread, and lettuce), four packs of chips and four canned drinks. I asked for some packets of mayonnaise and mustard. They said that they didn't have condiments. What, they are selling sandwiches at premium prices and don't have anything to put on them? So I put the drinks back and just paid for the sandwiches. We went to McDonalds and bought 4 drinks and picked up mayonnaise and mustard packs there. We used to come here as our go-to weekend breakfast spot. After the last three dining experiences, however, we'll never be coming back. I know...it took three times to convince us to never return, but we really wanted to give it some chances. The food slowly became mediocre on our palates. The pastries were still good, but the dishes we used to love were no longer. The major offense, though, was service. Our visit a few weeks ago was the last straw: after being seated, we waited at least 30 minutes for a server to come to our table. Yes, we caught the attention of other servers and asked if someone was coming. Each time, they said "yes, of course" and so we waited - at this point, we were just hungry and annoyed and ready to leave when someone finally came around. While she did her best to accommodate us, the food took longer still to come out. We just wanted to eat and leave - what is normally a 45 minute breakfast was an hour plus. Had a pretty terrible lunch experience here yesterday. The food was actually decent, but everything else was a mess. A few coworkers and I stopped in around noon and were promptly seated. Our server brought us waters and a plate with lemons and a special treat (a nice curly hair). I pointed it out and he didn't really apologize, he just said "Oh!" and walked away with the lemons. We each ordered the lunch special which is described as "SELECT ANY STARTER & ANY HALF SANDWICH plus a side dish 14.25". Now, if it's called a "starter", you would think it's meant to START the meal...right?! Well we waited, and waited for our soups, but they never came. About 25 minutes after we ordered, our entrees came (1/2 sandwich and fries). I mentioned to the server that we never received the soups. Again, he didn't apologize and was just like "Oh, we bring it with the meal unless you tell us not to". Now, who would think you would need to TELL them to bring the soup first...especially when it's called a "STARTER"?!?!? And eventually the soups showed up, but I really think he just forgot them or was clueless about the order in which people eat meals. I also just got kind of skeeved here. The hair didn't help, but I also felt like this place was just kind of dirty in general. They're definitely charging way too much for the level of service. read more

I've eaten at Buckhead Bread Company a couple times over the past year and enjoyed both occasions. The highlight of my brunch was the soft shell crab benedict which was absolutely phenomenal. This was a seasonal special so don't get mad at them when they don't have it. The bread selection is always very tasty and the diners I was with really enjoyed their meals as well. I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised with my experience at Buckhead Bread Company. I happened to be in the area running errands during the lunch hour and decided to give it a try for a quick bite to eat. Judging by the exterior and geographic location (it's directly across the street from Buckhead Diner) I was expecting the typical desperate Buckhead crowd; however, much to my surprise and enjoyment, that simply wasn't the case. Food: Buckead Bread Company can best be described as a Panera Bread with a smidgen of class. As can be inferred from the name, they do have a full service bakery with an assortment of breads and desserts. However, they also offer sit down service (Corner Cafe) that features a nice assortment of soups, salads, and various sandwiches. On my first visit, I opted for the crusted chicken roll salad, which was sizable, fresh, and well flavored. My partner ordered the chicken salad sandwich, which was quite large and much to his liking. On the way out, we also purchases a red velvet cupcake from the case. Unfortunately, it was exceedingly dry and the alleged cream cheese frosting was virtually devoid of said cheese. Service: Upon entry, we were promptly greeted and seated. Shortly thereafter, the waitress arrived and she remained friendly and attentive throughout the duration of the meal. The restaurant portion was also at full capacity, so I was impressed that they were able to maintain such a high level of service. Atmosphere: There isn't much ambience here, but I'd consider it a perfect place for a quick business lunch or for church ladies to meet up and talk some trash. The clientele is mostly your typical trendy Buckhead types and there also seems to be a fairly large contingent of regulars. However, it appeared to me that the regulars and non-regulars were being treated to the same level of upstanding service. Price: Overall, I found the prices to be commensurate with the quality of the food. Both the salad and sandwich were around $12 each, which I personally consider a steal for that locale. The cupcake was $2.50, but it was also extremely large. Other: The parking lot is cramped and tricky to navigate. If at all possible, your best bet is to enter the lot through the side street directly adjacent to the restaurant (East Paces Ferry), as opposed to the entrance on Piedmont. read more

Brunch is the strongpoint here. Always a good choice if you're willing to wait a bit for your table. The food is more than tasty. The restaurant is all windows though, so it's definitely not the place to go when hungover. I once had brunch there with a friend who had to wear sunglasses the whole time ... yes, inside. Anyway ... the food makes me happy. Especially the little muffins they bring to your table before the food gets there. If they don't come automatically, don't be afraid to ask. Yeah...nouveau riche, trendy, etc; but lacks any true form. I should know by now that anything that appears to good to be true probably is too good to be true. With that in mind, I still went ahead and ordered: Eggs Benedict with Home fries Pancakes I love Eggs Benedict, especially the Hollandaise sauce. I can't tell if it is fresh and made by a novice chef or from a packet; I do know that there was too much acid/lemon juice in the sauce and that the sauce was runny. I wish they had a Peach Valley Cafe in every city since they now how to make Hollandaise sauce from scratch. The pancakes were uber-sweet -- cake sweet. In fact, I think they probably used the cake batter to make these pancakes. It was just too sweet with too little other flavor. There are only two ways people would enjoy this restaurant: 1. they don't know any better and 2. they just don't care because now they are trendy, too. We just had a disappointing brunch here. There were five of us. Two ordered eggs benedict, one without hollandaise. The one without hollandaise arrived drenched; the other one has an egg so runny that we're not sure it had ever touched a pan. We sent both back. The one without hollandaise arrived back in about 10 minutes with an egg so overcooked I had to cut it with a knife. The other one took about 15 (and looked similarly overdone). No apologies from the staff, no remorse. Terrible service and terrible food. No reason to return. read more

It didn't have much of anything on the sandwich and I expected breakfast potatoes or fries, but it came with a handful of lettuce with just a dash of disgusting honey mustard dressing. We went for breakfast, we won't go back. I'd passed it for years, but had no idea it was so remarkably over priced and unfulfilling. I can't speak to the bakery side or the dessert, but the breakfast menu was small and so overpriced it was laughable. I think I spent $12 for a bagel sandwhich, no side, that should've been about $ 6. I get that it's B'head, but that doesn't mean it's okay to be a ripoff. When it came time for our bill, they didn't even itemize it. Fortunately I've steered about 7 people away from that place since then, in October, and I will steer all of the rest away that are needed. The cafe is very good (4 stars) but the bakery is amazing (5 stars). Why it's 5 stars: 1) The Pain au Levain is amazing. Pain au Levain is the French version of sourdough. It's the old world original sourdough. These guys make it and it is sublime. After you buy the Pain au Levain you won't buy sourdough ever again! 2) The raisin walnut bread and rolls are also divine. You have to try it. 3) The brunch on weekends has some really nice items and is better than Buckhead Diner across the street. My favorite is the smoked salmon Benedict which is served on potato pancakes with side of green beans, grits or potatoes. All the Benedict's are good - sausage, bacon, Florentine. Also the pancakes and waffles are worth trying. I also like the bowl of berries as a side with my breakfast. The berries are ripe and marinayed. 4) They have really good sandwiches for lunch. So I have this very clear memory from when I was a little girl. Maybe 7 or 8 years old. I was somewhere in Atlanta with my parents, maybe evacuating a hurricane? I used to really, really love smoked turkey and that was pretty much the only kind of sandwich I would eat. I remember stopping somewhere and picking out a sandwich. It was in a barrel and wrapped in paper and it was smoked turkey on pretzel bread. I remember thinking in my 7 year old mind that it was the best sandwich I'd ever had. I always begged my parents to find me that sandwich again and they would remind me that we didn't have an Atlanta Bread Company in Savannah. Flash forward a few years to the grand opening of the Atlanta Bread Company in Savannah. I was SO excited that maybe I could find this elusive, awesome sandwich from my early childhood. To my dismay, the Atlanta Bread Company had no such thing. They didn't even have pretzel bread! I figured the thing must have just been discontinued or something. Now flash forward a few MORE years when, just having moved to Atlanta, I end up and Buckhead Bread Company totally by accident because the place I wanted to go was closed on Sunday. I ended up in the cafe part and got a ham and brie sandwich with roasted potatoes. Both were delicious, but expensive. As I was leaving, I decided to take a look at all of the breads. Impressive indeed! I made a mental note to stop by and try a loaf sometime. Then, as I walked toward the door, I spied a barrel. Curious me wondered what was inside. And what could it have been but a smoked turkey sandwich on PRETZEL BREAD!! Perhaps the sandwich of my childhood actually came from *Buckhead* Bread Company (or some predecessor thereof) and my parents simply confused it with *Atlanta* Bread Company. I wish the service had been better because then I would give this place 4 stars. My mom and I went here for lunch and the waitress was really rude. The first thing we asked for was water; she spent 5 minutes walking around the restaurant. My mom said "excuse me" as she passed us for the 7th time and asked her for the water, she holds up her finger, starts to walk away then doubles back and heads towards the table. When my mom asks her for the water, she says one second and walks away. I once read on a website, someone commented, if you want perfect service stay at home. My mom talked to the manager, he was very nice. He told us to come back inside and the food was very good. I had the Fried Green Tomato BLT with Clam Chowder and she had the Lamb Sandwich with Potato Leek Soup. The soup was steaming hot, our new waiter, brought us out a bread basket and our water. Their desserts and pastries looked good but I was full from lunch. The place is pricey, about $12-$15 for a sandwich with one side. I only went here today to try it. We came at about 2:00 on a Sunday afternoon. We waited maybe 10 minutes, so that was nice compared to the 30-45 min waits we'd been quoted elsewhere. Pretty expensive for what you get, but the grilled cheese BLT left me full. I recommend the Shakerato if you're a fan of coffee and/or like affogatos. Panera Bread on Steroids! I'll branch out and try pretty much anything, but I always find myself leaning towards the crab cakes benedict which are ALWAYS a hit! The bakery has phenomenal croissants (we had the chocolate croissant) that you can pair with a cappuccino or a mimosa. It is very rare I give a bad review. This is an instance of just bad service. Visited this morning because my co-worker saw this place and thought we should go. Very slow to be greeted at the table, took forever to get our coffee....in fact our food showed up before our one coffee and one latte. Had to ask for the check 3 times---normally I have patience but it's a week day and we were clearly on a business breakfast and it just took forever from a service standpoint. The food was great---poached eggs with fruit and toast. I would go back for the food, but frankly I am sure there are many other places in Buckhead that serve breakfast and have servers who take care of their tables.
