We loved everything here! It's a nice big restaurant so we were able to be seated quickly on a Sunday for brunch. Austin was our server and he did a great job. He was very patient answering many questions about the menu. My mom has a lot of food sensitivities so she has to be very specific about what she eats. Hands down the best thing on the table was my shrimp and grits! The shrimp had just the right amount of Cajun seasoning, the grits were smooth and cheesy, the vegan sausage was nice and savory, and I loved the little grilled piece of focaccia bread. My fiancé loved the Kirkwood Breakfast. Especially the lavender biscuit and the preserves that went with it. He was also a huge fan of the honey bacon. My mom also got the Kirkwood breakfast, but she opted to get the eggs without the boursin cheese because of her food issues. My niece's boyfriend got the challa French toast and WOW it was a sight to see! Huge fluffy piece of French toast, topped with fresh berries, and a ricotta cheese blend. He seemed quite happy with it, although it was a little on the fence with the texture of ricotta, I'm thinking he probably hasn't had that before so I didn't know it was kind of like a cottage cheese texture. I got a lavender infused lemonade, nonalcoholic drink from the bar, and it was an absolute delight! I was surprised when they only charged me $4 for it, I felt like that was a great price for a delicious drink. My only constructive criticism to them would be to let people know that they add a 20% gratuity to every check. Sun in My Belly is a cute little brunch and pastry shop. I've been a couple times, and the food has been great each time. The parking situation is kind of odd, there's limited street parking options on a residential street nearby. I recently tried the avocado toast, and it was very tasty and the portion was quite bigger than I expected since it is listed under an appetizer. I've also tried their shrimp and grits which was veryy yummy and filling--portion was a very nice and big size! I also loved their french toast with berries, I definitely would order that again!!!! The service is generally good, not much complaints from me, though the person I went with wished they checked on us a bit more frequently. A cute, sizeable cafe that deserves more of a 3.5, but our party of four had a mixed experience when it came to the food. I had a croque madame that, while it had a great flavor and a perfectly cooked egg, was delivered more lukewarm than hot. The gravy on the biscuits and gravy had very little sausage in it, which made the dish overall a little too soggy. The "hashed" potatoes served with two other entrees were not at all a hash, but just overly seasoned cubed potatoes. The drinks were a hit with everyone luckily. My cousin loved his Me Espresso, which had a nice kick of cayenne and cocoa on top, and the rest of us enjoyed very refreshing iced lattes. The service was quick and friendly, and the prices were good. I think I'd come back to give the pastries a try and grab another coffee, but there are probably better brunch places in ATL. read more

I appreciate groups are tough, especially when the restaurant doesn't seem to have reservations but we did struggle a bit despite reaching out twice in advance to give notice. Like other reviewers have shared service can be slow. That being said everyone who worked there was very friendly, and the restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere that can be hard to find in the Atlanta brunch scene. Sun in My Belly is a wonderful neighborhood staple. Located in the historic Bailey's Hardware building, the restaurant is so charming and cute. Parking can be tight in the lot behind the restaurant but definitely available if you go at the right time. We went on a busy Sunday around 12:30, without a reservation, and were seated almost right away. The staff were super sweet, and if you go, you absolutely HAVE to try the lavender biscuits--they're so good! To be honest, it's been over a year since I have been and the food itself wasn't super memorable outside of those biscuits, but I made up in customer service and for that alone I would go back again and again. The young people that work here are absolutely amazing and we need more people like them in the city, real talk. read more

Husband and I went for breakfast/brunch on a recent Sunday. The restaurant was busy but there wasn't a wait; we were seated promptly at a table next to exterior doors that didn't close completely. Watch your step...I tripped walking through one area to the next as the floor is uneven between the spaces. It was hot and humid and there were flies, the chairs had crumbs on them that we had to brush off ourselves before sitting down. Our server was nice enough and mostly attentive enough even though our glasses were empty a couple of times. Husband ordered the chicken sandwich on focaccia with hash potatoes. It was clearly one of those low quality frozen chicken cutlets that barely made any contact with the grill. The focaccia was dry and cracking. The potatoes had no color, just oil. I ordered the Kirkwood breakfast with the glazed bacon (flaccid) and added a bagel with cream cheese. The scrambled eggs were fine but nothing better than what you can get at a Waffle House. The bagel arrived to the table toasted with one of those individual packages of Philadelphia reduced fat "cream cheese." I felt like I was at one of those 2 star hotels that include a low quality, bare bones breakfast. Is anything actually made here? It seems like they just heat up things that the Sysco truck drops off frozen. I am wondering what skills the kitchen staff possess? There is a 20% mandatory gratuity, which I found gratuitous. I thought that the panini was good, but not amazing. The potatoes were also not seasoned enough for me. However, I really loved the Fried Green Tomatoes as it was topped with pimento cheese and smoked paprika, which really added to the flavor! It had been a while since our last visit to Sun in My Belly, so we recently decided to stop by again for a quick and simple breakfast. We both ordered the Kirkwood breakfast with chicken sausage. Instead of the Boursin cheese it typically comes with, we substituted for cheddar. It took a while for us to actually have the opportunity to place our order, even though it wasn't busy at all since we'd gotten there a few minutes after they'd opened. But once we ordered, the food didn't take long to arrive and we enjoyed it. The fact that it was nice and quiet was a plus. We also grabbed cake pops for our nieces in the bakery section like we usually do, which they always love. We don't come here often, but it's always pretty solid when we do. read more

There usually is a wait on the weekends and parking can be difficult (street parking unless you get lucky in their small lot). Sun in the past had been a place enjoyed by me and family. Today, we chose Sun to break bread with a family member visiting the area. The food was good, service awesome. What didn't land right was the misstep in not mentioning the 20% added to bill. There is a note posted at front counter - where likely many people don't readily see or pay attention to it. It was missed by our party - only to be recognized after we had already added an additional 25% to the bill - we caught it - scratched it out initialing the corrected total sans the extra tip. What saddens me most is I believe our server could have mentioned the included tip to bill when dropping off the bill for payment. The focaccia was so soft and fresh, and not soggy, I suspected it was placed on top just as they were exiting the kitchen. Shrimp could have been spicier for me but the sausage had a little kick. We were there on a Friday afternoon. The vibe was very much neighborhood hangout casual. Spacious with lots of seating and light. Coffee was a local distributor light to medium roast. David Joined a friend late on Saturday afternoon for a late brunch. It's been a while since I've been here and I've been remiss. David was our server and he was very patient when we were indecisive and made some great suggestions. I ended up with the pimento cheese omelette with a side of cheesy grits and my friend had the Hermes salad which was fresh and crisp with smoked salmon. We opted to split the French toast but honestly the portions are so generous we only took a bite. The food here is consistently delicious!! We also tried the sangria. Very nice also. Well the critics and lists were right! Great breakfast spot! They have great outdoor or indoor seating. It was pretty slow that morning. But that equaled great service and super quick food. I got the pimento cheese omelet and hash potatoes. I did not need the ketchup I thought I may need for the potatoes. They were very flavorful. not crispy but buttery smooth at least. The omelet was fluffy and cooked perfectly. The maple bacon or whatever and pimento cheese it was full of was very rich and delicious! Great service with some really good food. We ordered the Shrimp and Grits as well as the French Toast, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The flavors were on point, and we thoroughly enjoyed every bite. However, I have to admit that the service left a lot to be desired. Our server seemed to disappear after dropping off our food, only reappearing when it was time to hand us the check. To make matters worse, a 20% tip was automatically included in the bill. Frankly, the service didn't warrant such a high tip, and it's a shame that it was mandatory.
