A girl walks into a bar... really, I did! I was traveling for work, and quickly yelp'd local restaurants, and Buckhorn popped up. Don't confuse this place with a similarly named restaurant, as they couldn't be further from one another in all ways. This is your neighborhood bar & grill, but mostly bar. Its that cool place that you can go to for cheap eats and well drinks for happy hour. You can play pool, sing karaoke, or just hang with the locals. The lunch menu is basic... basically good! Yes, great food at a bar. Yes, this local watering hole isnt shabby when it comes to good eats. We ordered a mix of onion rings/fries, and the honey bbq's wings. Leslie the barkeep is a sweetheart. She keeps the rift raft at bay, and is so welcoming. She knew that I wasnt local, and really went out of her way to make sure that we felt at home. The onion rings were DELISH! Not greasy, not all bready, not saturated in " stuff" They were hot and just yummy. I even liked the fact that " Big John" (he's the cook) didnt over season them. The fries werent my jam, but were your basic fries. The wings were not what I expected. I will admit that I figured the food would be basic, if that. Instead, they were WOW. Hot, large wings, covered in honey BBQ sauce that made me want to keep eating. With your Yelp check in, they will take $2.00 off of your appetizer. Cool bar. Good food. Great service. One day I'll get food here. (kitchen remodel?) Until then, the HH drink specials have kept me satiated. It's a sweet change from the craft beer artisan mumbo jumbo that has permeated throughout most of Davis. (and Sacramento, and...) The burgers that came from the back looked delicious, but I cannot speak for them. Only a promise to try them in the future. There is an outdoor patio with some picnic tables but the weather here is extreme at times. You can probably smoke out there too. read more

I've never had the food but the bar is very run down. The bathrooms are in desperate need of a full guy renovation. They smell awful and are a one at a time situation. Last I visited there was only 1 bar tender working her butt off! So hats off to her. All the drinks were served in a plastic cup I'm sure to avoid glass being broken. The crowd was rough and a bit scary. If you do come here don't ever come here alone! There are so many great bars in Dixon I'd skip this one. read more

Excellent reception as soon as we walked through the door from this very pretty bar lady. She was very inviting, polite and interested us being very comfortable. She had informed us cook was at grocery store would be right back which was great with us since we were in no hurry. We played a game of Billiard, it was very fun playing against husband whom done way better than me! We both ordered the fish tacos's with coleslaw. It was very tasty. They are popular for there chicken wings but since there is a shortage due to pandemic we could not try them out. This place has a happy hour special that includes the taps drafting Sierra Nevada pale ale, Widmer, and Blue Moon beer! We stopped by here for a quick drink and some food before heading over to the pinball show at the fairgrounds. It's an atmosphere-rich country bar with a fantastic kitchen menu that includes some truly good selections. My dining partner and I got a plate of 12 potstickers and a lamb-asiago burger to share. The bartender told me that all the lamb items on the menu are made with locally-raised lambs. While we waited for our food to be prepared, we had a pleasant wait at the bar. There were Kentucky horse racing programs on the screen, and there was free wifi for patrons. I noted that the top shelf in front of me had some interesting whiskey and bourbon selections that would be nice to try on a future visit. The inside facade had stonework covering an archway and one section of a wall on one side. There was also a DJ trying to warm up the crowd(this was on a Friday). When the plates of food came out, I was pleased to see that it all looked delicious. The potstickers came with two different dipping sauces. The lamb burger came pre-cut in halves. One bite of the burger resulted in a delightful explosion of juicy, fresh grilled lamb flavor. My gosh, this was a real treat! No way am I ever passing by Dixon without stopping for food at this place. That dives and diners review cable show had better not come here, because I don't want the secret to get out. Came in randomly on an early Sunday afternoon on our way home from Tahoe, and right away was greeted and seated. Arrived just in time for the kitchen to open and multiple football games playing on different TVs. Nice sports bar with great customer service by the bartender (Eddie). Glad to have entered randomly for a pit stop b/c the food was pretty good as well. 2 - Chk/avocado sandwiches, a B.L.T.A sandwich with 2 orders of fries and a salad. This is not affiliated with the Buckhorn steakhouses in Winters and Vacaville. This is a bar in Dixon with food. That said, the burgers were pretty darn good. If you like lamb; this is a particularly good place to go. They have lamb burgers for virtually the same price as beef, and their lamb is what you would expect from one of the lamb capitols of California. We came in just about lunch time and the place was packed with lunchers, not drinkers. We waited a bit longer than normal but were pleased with the results of our patience. Overall, I would recommend this place with a caveat; it is first and foremost a red-neck bar. A very good and tasty lunch in a red-neck bar. If you can live with that go in and enjoy. Great place for lunch! Reasonable prices, friendly service, and home-style cooking make this little spot a winner. I had the Mariachi Burger with a side salad for only $8. The burger was flavorful and juicy, and the salad was nice and fresh. It was a very hot day, and the temperature was refreshingly cool. Local folks wandered in and out, visiting with the bartender and greeting each other. This was the perfect spot for lunch today! Out of all the meals that were ordered among my family & I, I would have to say my dads meal was the best! He ordered the tri tip sandwich, yum! The meat was so tender and seasoned to taste! So kind of him to share, but It was difficult for us not to devour his meal! As an appetizer we ate the delicious sweet potato fries, I loved how thick they were! And the customer service was out of sight! Although we normally order different meals, the special of the day caught our eye, and we each ordered it. Success! Large, juicy burger topped with fried bologna slices and topped with cheese. Amazing, and every bit as good as it sounded. Crispy fries to die for. And all for less than $10 each!! I added a local IPA and we left happy and fully satisfied. Just what we wanted, a local hometown bar. Local tip - Make sure you get your order in, Kitchen closed at five to transition into the evening crowd. The food was fantabulous! Tried this place for the first time. They don't open up until noon. I had the new york steak sandwich for lunch at $9. It was fantastic! The wait was a little long, but worth it. The fries were piping hot and the steak sandwich was basically a big steak between a toasted hoagie roll. I didn't care for the lettuce and mayonnaise on the sandwich and think it could be served with A1 sauce. This thing was hay-uge. The bartender Annie said "you won't go away hungry" and I thought, "yeah, right", but she was spot on. The steak was about 3/4 " thick and cooked medium. Upon arriving, the manager Janet helped us at the register. We told her this was our 1st time visiting. She just stood there & stared at us. Then we told her that we were undecided on what to order. She again just stood there staring at us. It was so upsetting. Never offered any suggestions on anytime.
