Who needs a drink. The Stag has been in Woodland forever. I remember in high school I would drive by the place and say to myself, " I cant wait till i'm old enough to go inside there and DRINK. I have been going there off and on since i've turned 2, and nothing has changed, The staff is always friendly, drinks are good and company is never bad. Sometimes they have live music, & Djs. It can get crowed there, since its such a small place but ive never have had a bad time there, & usually there is no cover charge.They also have themed nights, ie: industry night ect. Bartenders Krystyna, Skyla & Heather make pretty awesome drinks. Ive never had a bad one yet. The beer is always ice cold and the Bloody Marys are one of the best in town. There is a pool table and other games to play. There is always people inside. You can strike up and conversation with the people that are in there, cuz they are always nice. I came in with a girlfriend on Monday night- there were only a few people there. During the weekends there is more of a crowd and various events that keep folks coming back- karaoke and live music. This place was truly awesome. Truly. I stopped in Woodland on my way down to visit family in Southern California. I needed a good local bar to pass some time, and Yelp! helped me out again with this location. A trivia night was going on when I walked into this place...which can only be called a "dive," in the most fondest of terms. It reminded me a lot of some of the sleazier (i.e. better) bars I frequented in NYC. Anywhoo, a trivia night was going on, so some of the clientele was a little on the older side...but seemed to fit right in. A great mix of hipsters, burnouts, quiet drinkers, and loud party people were scattered through this place. Beers, shots, GREAT conversation with the owner and her temp-fill-in barkeeper kept me here much later than I had any right to be. And a great follow through to my safety, the owner got me a cab to get me back to my hotel. Since I don't have a receipt from said cab, I'm pretty sure they paid for it to. I regret to say I don't recall much of the end of that night. Shame on me. But kudos to this joint. I will DEFINITELY be stopping by here the next time I'm heading down to southern Cali. Regardless of whether I need to stay the night or not. I assume I will stay when it's over, all things considered. read more

The Stag gets four stars because of their cheap drinks. It's a dive bar for sure but they have live music every Saturday night (and a five dollar cover) and a whole list of things during the week. I know Friday is free pool night. Thursday is reggae DJ night, Wednesday is HumpDay $1.50 shooters and a DJ plays, Tuesday are Tequila day with $3 shots *I think* Sunday and Monday are like "ridiculously cheap PBR night" The whole place has like a tavern feel to it, its dark and dismal. But the front leads right out to historic downtown Woodland and when standing outside on a Friday night you are sure to be honked at. They have one pool table thats always being used. A nice jukebox. Sports on the TVs. The owner Heather is a doll I absolutly love her and she is the number one reason I keep going back. read more

I was in Woodland taking care of some courthouse business and decided to drop into the Stag for a beer. This is a very old Woodland establishment (est. 1903), and it shows in some places. But I like the taverns so that doesn't bother me much. Let's see... Ice cold Coors Light bottle-$3.00 Bar box coin-op pool table Live music/DJ's at night with various drink specials. Big mounted deer's head, hence the name. Bumper sticker on the wall that proclaims: For a small town this one sure has a lot of assholes. Lot's of fishing, hunting and NASCAR paraphanilia. And that's the Stag for ya. There was a front page of the SF Chronicle featuring Obama and Biden pinned up on the wall, likely dated November 5th, 2008. It was a pleasant sight to see on Inaugaration Day, but it did seem out of place in this otherwise nondescript drinking man's bar. read more

Came to visit Yolo with some friends and I guess the closest night life is out in Woodland. After missing the big city bar scene, the locals took my friends and I to this spot. Hella Crackin! We roll in and it has that awesome dive bar feeling with random decorations all over the spot and the typical inked and pierced crowd. They're DJ named DJ Bmode was on that night and I think it's time for them to get Dj barcode at least he's nice to everyone and not Rude when people request songs for them to play.
