Our Hearthstone wood stove from Buck's Stove Palace
Douglas C.

Let me show you my hand straight off. I've bought two stoves from Buck's Stove Palace, and the final result both times was nothing short of a beautiful, and totally functional installation. As a matter of fact, it's thirty-seven degrees outside and I'm writing this review sitting in front of my lovely soapstone wood stove I bought from Buck. But buying a stove from Buck is like getting your teeth pulled - by the Godfather. I dread calling Buck, like I dread calling the dentist; but there is never any doubt that when the subject is stoves, Buck is the guy I'm going to call. He hires help, but won't delegate authority. His many, many customers must wait to speak to the big man, while his hired help stands around looking sheepish. Once you arrive in Buck's clutter of and office, he will treat you to anecdotes while others wait. He will send you out to consider a few final details and then put you back at the end of the cue. If he really likes you, he might send you out to his warehouse to take a look at something, and you will find yourself groping your way through rubble resembling 1945 Berlin - one man's junk is another man's treasure. Once you have gone though the decision merry-go-round and arrive at a solid understanding with Buck, you might need to renegotiate half of it because he won't remember, or something else came up and it suits him not to remember. When you get angry with him; and you will get angry, he will be truly hurt and you will feel like a schmuck. I trust Buck. I trust him to treat me like a valued customer, to screw up my order, and ultimately give me more than we agreed on. I'll be building a house in Yachats in a few years, and I'm already dreading the call I know I'll make. I like Buck - he's the real deal.

wonderful! now we just need to paint up the room so it looks as good as the stove!

Buck doesn't know what he's doing. Get a bonded installer and seller. His bad advice ended up costing us thousands of dollars.

I have bought several appliances over the past few years from Community Appliance for my rental…read moreproperty, and I had been fairly happy with them. But recently I bought a refrigerator that has had to be repaired three times for the same thing. The second time my renter told me that the repairman said that the problem couldn't really be fixed and that it would happen again. So now we are on the third time and I let the woman who answers the phone know that I would come in and pick out a different refrigerator and that I would be happy to pay the difference if the new one I bought cost more. Tonight, I received a call from the owner who told me that he had picked out a refrigerator that he would take over to the rental, but that when the warranty expired in three weeks there would be no further warranty on the new refrigerator. I told him this was unacceptable to me, clearly the refrigerator was damaged beyond repair when purchased. He repeated several times that there would be no warranty and that he would choose the replacement refrig. He interrupted me and spoke over me repeatedly. He also said that he, himself, went out as the repairman the second time and that he never told my tenant that it would not be possible to fix the refrigerator. I asked for his name and he told me Louis. I asked for his last name and he refused to provide it. Then he said I was yelling at him, which I don't believe I was. I simple repeated my request for his last name. I also asked him to spell his first name and he refused. It's easy enough to find his name with a search through the Oregon Secretary of State website. It is Luis Urueta. I certainly will not ever buy another appliance through Community Appliance.

Regarding buying appliances: don't just look for the store with the cheapest prices (they're basically all about the same anyway). You should think about: how will the store respond when you have a problem. I'm a self-confessed pain in the neck type of customer because I'm very indecisive and picky. I also had some snafus (all my fault--like ordering the wrong size hood and changing my mind about the custom oven I bought). Throughout all of this, Smiley was unfailingly kind and professional. He provided honest advice on the products and when things went sideways for me, he went out of his way to fix the problem and make sure I was happy and satisfied. I can't say enough great things about Eastbank Appliances and especially Smiley. Smiley is incredibly knowledgeable, honest, helpful and really understands what customer service means. Believe me: if you are buying appliances GO HERE AND ASK FOR SMILEY.

However, Hamilton's decided to partner with this company and therefore only gets 3 stars. (I was debating between 3 and 4). We bought a wall unit oven/microwave in 2021 that cost about $3k. The keypad went out. The error code is clear. The system notice tells you. We told the warranty people what the error code said. Extended warranty folks required I be home half a day. They arrive and tell me the oven needs a new keypad. Really?!?! Long story short, the oven is not repaired. It is now a full 2 months we have been without. We had to buy a countertop microwave, but still no oven. Extended Warranty keeps opening and closing tickets, and then stopped communicating because about 4 weeks after we started the process, the warranty expired. Now they don't think they have an obligation to finish the repair even though it started weeks before expiration. We had to order our own part and will install it ourselves. Thank you YouTube. Remedy will be to file small claims lawsuit for the value of the part and cost of the warranty. I only hope Hamilton's makes right with future customers and refuses selling this shoddy warranty product.
