I have seen quite a few opthalmologists in my lifetime and by far Dr. Badrudin Kurwa is the best. I went to see him for a regular eye check up and to consult with him about a dark spot I had on my right eyelid. After observing it, he suggested I get a biopsy of it. To make a long story short, it was malignant. Dr. Kurwa went out of his way to personally call my primary doctor to get an authorization to see an oncologist to whom he discussed my medical case. I don't think a lot of doctors would do that. Dr. Kurwa is a very kind, compassionate and brilliant doctor. He also has a great sense of humor and is very quick witted with his jokes which I love. This so called Specialized messed up my son's right eye twice. And on the third these physician didn't know what to do to fixed his mistakes. Just wanted to inject steroid. After my son went to the ER got MRI result and consulted with another Specialized contradict his finding was an ERROR. Son got another second opinion. From just a len being fix. Now Retina then lens when healed & OK. I was suppose to get surgery with him too! After what happened to my son's Rt Eye, I was scared to have him do any surgery on my Rt eye. I CANCEL my surgery with him due to what he did to my son Rt eye & what his going though to correct what Dr. Bud Kurwa so called Specialize that didnt know how to correct his mistakes. The staff for Dr Kurwa overschedule him and I have never waited less than 90 minutes. People have to line up in the hallway. Twice in 2 weeks I took time off work and went my appointment only to be told that he is in surgery. No one called me to reschedule. The last time there were 40 people waiting and he wasn't even in the office. Dr Kurwa is a great Dr and I really liked him. Terrible staffing here, rude over the phone they will not call you to notify any changes they will wait for you to come into appointment to say you can't be seen, BUT will call you multiple times to change the appointment times on you, but never answer any of your own questions, I'm concerned that this whole building has very low standards of how a business should be ran, I would be very careful before going somewhere that deals with cutting into your human body, if I was just purchasing merchandise I wouldn't feel so compelled to write this review. This is NOT about Dr. Kurwa. This is about his STAFF. They are stinking incompetent to the max, and claim I have NOT been in that office since 2019. Crazy!!! My six year old son had an that would drift out in short terms. It was recommended after years of patching to correct the eye with surgery. As a mother I was very nervous yet I new my son was in great hands. Dr. Kurwa was able to straighten the eye and surgery was successful. I have been seeing Dr Kurwa for over 20 years after being referred by my GP, and I have never had a bad experience. Sometimes there is a wait time, but that is to be expected in medical offices occasionally. He has been professional, courteous, and thorough and I enjoy his sense of humor too. He did my LASIK surgery and that of some of my friends as well, and we are satisfied with him and his office staff. read more

My experience with Dr Kurwa is very different. Maybe the reason he was able to turn business awAy is that he gets his money elsewhere. Like not paying his contractor what he owes and totally disregarding repeated requests to man up and do the right thing.!! My husband died suddenly in the middle of a project for Dr. Kurwa- he was owed money for services rendered and had an email from the doctor saying I will pay you on Monday. Sunday was the day he died and when my children and I asked the doctor to pay the money owed he said bring the blueprints to the lawyer and then I will pay you. We drove the blueprints to the lawyer and never received payment. The lawyer communicated that the doctor was not going to pay. What a scam artist. read more

My experience was great with Dr. Kurwa. I will say that due to having 3 different locations, wait times can vary. But none the less, his experience and friendly demeanor exceeded my expectations. I felt comfortable knowing he would be doing lasik on my eyes. The process was fast but I HIGHLY recommend taking the muscle relaxers they offer before the procedure. Dr. Kurwa performed LASIK on me a few years ago and I have had no issues. Vision is great! I just underwent ptosis repair on my right eye and it was seamless. I am 2 weeks post op and I am healing nicely. There was no pain associated with the procedure and the recovery was easy. It just looks bad, but no pain whatsoever. I will be getting the L eye done next. Dr. Kurwa comes highly recommended. His office is quite busy and wait times are long, but he spends time with you during your exam. read more

I was referred by a co worker (Dec 2014) and honestly it was my bad that I did not do any research and especially with all the red flags =( I am a nurse and can not believe i allow this to happen to myself. Biggest mistake of my life. Dr. Kurwa informed me i had dry eyes, but wouldn't be a problem. Scheduled Lasik for Jan 9, 2015. Lasik procedure completed. No post op instructions given, No follow up appt scheduled, No eye shield given (red flags). I had to wear my own sunglasses. Called reported that my eyes were extremely dry, uncomfortable with blurry vision. I was instructed to buy over the counter eye drops (any is ok, no suggestions or recommendations). After trying every kind possible and no results, I called again and asked for an appt to see Dr. Kurwa. F/U appt - Clear contact put on (didn't have both same, so 1 was no prescription and the other had prescription) Instructed to keep on and follow up in two weeks. Red flag: Did not wash hands, no gloves and placed contacts in eyes. Called back to make an earlier appt due to still having issues with dry eyes & blurry vision. Again Dr. Kurwa took out contacts without washing hands and no gloves. Put in two bottom dissolvable plugs. By this time, I am freaking out due to still having extremely dry eyes, blurry vision, can't drive at night, lights are blending with each other. I had to call back to schedule another F/U. Put in two top dissolvable plugs. Dr. Kurwa wanted to also give me perscription contacts due to upcoming wedding I had planned for myself Feb 19 2015 so i can see. Did not have anymore contacts at the Glendora location so he suggested I drive to Arcadia office to pick some up. During this entire process. I had to have husband drop off to work and friend drop off home. I had to miss work due to how blurry vision making me feel nauseous and had migraines. Months went by and it was not being resolved so I did my research and found Dr. Robert Lin (who evented lasik). Met with him and his team of optometrists. All concluded that initially Dr. Kurwa should have resolved by dry eyes, before even attempting to do the lasik, otherwise he would have not had accurate results. Dr. Lin took the appropriate steps to resolve my eye issues that took from April 2015 until July 2015. Dr. Lin then did the lasik procedure. That all ended up costing me another $6000 total with medications, lasik procedure, etc. Thank god for Dr. Lin! I requested over and over with Omalia, Dr Kurwa's office manager for a refund and assistance. I provided medical records from Dr. Lin reporting the issues that Dr. Kurwa caused me, but after a year now, all i got in return was attitude and unwillingness to assist. I would never recommend this doctor, but feel that he was negligent and caused me 7 months of pain and suffering. I really pray that people would read this review and go to Dr. Robert Lin with IQ LASIK instead. read more

It was a amazing pleasure to have met the nurses and medical staff at this facility during eye cataracts surgery May 19 2020. I was very nervous going in however the service I received was holistic in nature to my wellbeing and they decrease my anxiety and fear of the procedure., They explained every detail, step by step of the pre op. The girls at the front desk need improvement. This is the reason for the one star. I had an appointment with Dr. Kuwa at the Duarte location this past Friday. After waiting 2 hours I herd the girl at the front desk tell some he was still in surgery. I went to talk to her. She suggested to reschedule. I wish she would have said something to me. I rescheduled for Glendora after my experience at the Duarte office. I get to the Glendora office and the girl at the front desk said my insurance didn't work. I told her my insurance has not change and they excepted it before. I don't think she knew what she was doing. She tried to tell me coverage changes each month. At the Duarte office they had no problem with the insurance. After my 2 negative experience with the front desk I won't be going back. I waisted too much of my time already. read more

If I could give Dr. Kurwa staff zero stars I would. I had an appointment today at 2:05. I work in Anaheim so I left work at 12:30 to head to the Glendora office. I received a phone call at 1:45 to inform me that the doctor was out of the office and won't be back until 3 o'clock. I then asked what time can I see the doctor she said well you can still come to the office and wait if you want or you can reschedule. I explained to her that I had driven all the way from Anaheim and had to leave work early she didn't seem to care at all. Front office girls have no compassion and no understanding and value of peoples time. Dr Kurwa is a great doctor but his office staff is horrible. Had my lasik done bout 2 weeks ago now and life is amazing! Not wrestling with contacts every morning and nite and breaking every pair of glasses I've ever owned. Wish I did this 10 yrs ago! Life is truly so more settling now. Dr. Kurwa did a great job and made me feel completely at ease and very comfortable with the whole process and procedure. OMG - I just had LASIK from Dr. Kurwa (3 days ago) and it was one of the best things I have ever done. I went on-line to get his address to refer a relative, and I see a negative post that was posted in 2014 regarding an alleged suit in 1996 because of actions in 1991 centered around BILLING? The post starts with "I heard..." Wow! My eyes could care less whether anyone ever "heard" that Dr. Kurwa settled any law suit from decades earlier. Logic would suspect that, since Dr. Kurwa performs LASIK at a MUCH lower cost than others in the area, this negative review might have an ulterior motive. I don't know about you, but I don't "hear" much gossip regarding doctors in my daily life. Let's get back to my eyes. Dr. Kurwa's office staff seems busy and had to be reminded to check with my insurance regarding authorization for the perform the procedure. As for the LASIK itself. You can image that I experienced normal discomfort associated with having a laser zap my eyeball, but I was amazed, after only one night of rest, that I felt absolutely fine the next day. My reading sight was great the next day, and my distance vision (although it took a couple of days to adjust) is wonderful. I cannot imagine anyone NOT performing this procedure. Dr. Kurwa was professional, explained the entire process completely, double checked the work of his staff, and did a wonderful job ridding me of my dependency on eye glasses. If you are in the foothill communities, or the San Gabriel Valley, I would urge you to do LASIK through Dr. Kurwa's office. read more

Dr. Kurwa did cataract surgery on my left eye last year. I was told that I would be asleep during the whole thing... Well I was aware during the whole procedure. I remember laying there and telling myself that "well maybe even though I know what's going now-I will forget it when it's over." No unfortunately that didn't happen. It was like I was awake but paralyzed-with my arms strapped down. At one point I was in such pain that I instinctively pushed my head back and was given something else by the anesthesiologist. When I got back to outpatient surgery I looked the nurse right in the eye and said "I remember it all!" I think if I had been properly prepared for this possibility I would have been much less traumatized. Dr. Kurwa and Dr. Chan the anesthesiologist came in after the nurse called them to tell them that I was EXTREMELY upset and agitated. I was in no frame of mind to talk to them at that point and told them so twice-only when my daughter said it did they leave me alone. When I went for my follow appointment Dr. Kurwa came in and spent about 5 minutes with me and got up to leave. I said, "no we're not done." When I tried to talk to him about what had happened he took no responsibility at all and blamed it on the anesthesiologist. And said I could pursue it with the hospital. I was not looking to sue anyone-but an apology would have been nice.... Also my left eye is blurry now-it looks like a cloud is covering part of my eye. Not sure who to go see now.... Dr. Kurwa preformed cataract surgery on my left eye. I'd had my right eye done in another state. Recovery time was much shorter and a lot less redness with Dr. Kurwa. The Glendora office is small but closer to home. His Arcadia office is much nicer. He's friendly yet very professional. His staff is courteous and patient. Dr kurwa is an excellent eye dr. He did both of my cataract surgeries. I was afraid of the pain and he assured me I would feel no pain. Amazingly there was none. I had to see him a few years later as I was having blurriness in my right eye. I saw him on a week day and went back a few days later and had a laser light show and it cleared up my eye sight. I can see so much better now. He is very caring and reassuring. His office staff is also very professional. I would highly recommend him. read more
