BEWARE! Menus ZERO from Dr. Bud Kurwa so called Specialize didn't know how to fixed his mistakes with my son's Rt Eye. Twice he did surgery on him, third he state did not know why and just want to inject steroid to his Rt Eye. While my son's went to the ER several time due to severe headache. 4th time got MRI ordered by the ER physician got an Eye Specialized to consult to see my son's eye. Had to correct his ERROR! I was suppose to get my Rt Eye surgery. I CANCEL before he did my surgery. Since I saw and still seeing what my son's going though with his Rt Eye. My wife took her mom to this location. She had a horrible experience. She waited five hours even though she had an appointment. She decide to leave and not go through the surgery because she felt uncomfortable with staff and doctor. Very unprofessional. They had an over flow of patients not enough sitting. This doctor was a complete nightmare! Nothing short of a horror movie was my experience with him. I went in hoping to get rid of my stye. He scalped it with a numbing that lasted 5min and I drove away with a bleeding patch over my eye and in excruciating pain. My eye was on so much pain I had to take a really strong pain medication to be able to sleep. Next day my eye was swollen shut and oozing pus and blood. Two days later there's a large scratch on my cornea that impacts my vision so bad I can't even see out of my left eye. I go back to Dr Kurwa and he blames me for the scratch in my eye and says no explanation is need on his end and that he just has to fix it. He tapes my eye shut and it remains shut for an entire week. One of the most painful and difficult experiences of my life due to his negligence. My eye is still recovering from all the scraping he did and on top of that, the sty is still there. He put me through all that pain and discomfort just for the sty to remain the same. STAY AWAY FROM THIS DOCTOR! When I went back to ask him he said you have an infection and sent me away. Good for nothing. read more

***UPDATE*** After a pleasant conversation with Dr. Kurwa during which he listened to my experience fully and sincerely apologized for my experience. He included that he held a debriefing for his staff regarding patient care and customer service. I have since removed the picture of Leslie's scowl (although it was quite comical). Most importantly, I felt respected as a patient, and as a human. He admitted good help is difficult to come by especially in these times and made a true effort to rectify the situation and to better navigate similar situations in the future by at least listening to the client. I truly respect those that can, listen, adapt, and try to be better and for that, I'm willing to give his office another chance. 5 stars for Dr. Kurwa for continuing to make efforts to improve. I had a consult at the West Covina location and have had family members go to the Glendora and Arcadia locations.Im not kidding we have ALL heard Dr. Kurwa and his manager Amalia be SO rude and belittling to their employees. It's borderline abusive and disgusting.Literally heard both of them yell and call them stupid. I would never recommend this place just based on how they treat the people who work for them. Dr Kurwa is great! I had lasik done about a week ago and just had my follow up appointment. Everything was great. I first went for a consultation where the staff and the dr were all extremely nice, welcoming, made me feel comfortable and got all my questions answered. Two weeks later it was time for lasik! Same staff, same dr, same great experience. Everyone is so nice and personable that they made me feel super comfortable and I wasn't nervous at all. I was referred to Dr Kurwa by my physician. I had cataracts, one needed surgery right away and the other he said was not bad yet. So he did one eye first (2013) and it was a great experience. I just had my second surgery this year (2017), I have always been nervous when it comes to surgery but with Dr. Kurwa this is not the case, the minute he walks in, he puts me at ease, he can joke with a patient which immediately makes you feel comfortable and is very thorough with any questions I have had. I can see again!!! And I'm so excited that I just can't hide it! Lol!! I got lasik a few months ago actually but I was too busy enjoying my new eyes to write this review!! Dr. Kurwa is awesome!! The initial free consultation was extremely informative. Dr. Kurwa let me know all the pros and cons in full detail. The MOST important factor for me (because I had gone to other places like Pasadena laser eye center for a consult) was the fact that I felt I could TRUST Dr.Kurwa after our conversation that day (I didn't even meet the doctor who would actually do the surgery in the other place). The PRICE is GOOD!! I paid $2500 total (I was -7.5 on both eyes). He uses an older machine but hey who cares?! It gets the job done!! He mentioned he had done both his daughters eyes which made him even more trustworthy. The day of the surgery was smooth. Wait time was not an issue. The actual procedure took less than 10 minutes. It didn't hurt and Dr.Kurwa was explaining everything as the procedure went along. Recovery was good...eyes burned a bit for a couple days but was out and about after 3 days. The eye drops he gave me helped a lot!! Overall, great experience! read more

I found out about this place from a friend who also had her LASIK eye surgery done here. I had my consultation on July 8th and had the procedure done on the 15th. I was told that they only do consultations and operations on Fridays, so those were the days that I went in on. I had a very good experience with both the staff and Doctor Kurwa. I felt very much at ease; I had no reason to question my decision. The staff was very friendly and detailed. You could tell that they have done this plenty of times, and they know what reactions to expect when applying certain creams and liquids. On the day of the procedure, both a staff/nurse member and Doctor Kurwa check your eye sight to ensure that they have the most accurate reading. I think the biggest issue I had was the wait time. My consultation was super quick; I was in and out within probably 30 minutes. However, the day of the procedure, I was there for a full 3 hours. The procedure itself was extremely fast; it felt like it took at a maximum of 10 minutes. So make sure that you and your driver allot a lot of time; although, you're supposed to go home and sleep right after the procedure because your eyesight will be blurry for the first day. In terms of pain, I would say that the worst part is when he uses what felt like a suction-y device. The pain was similar to getting soap in your eyes. I felt nothing from the laser itself, which was pretty cool. I had my post-op check up the following Thursday. I told the doctor that sometimes my vision would be a little blurry, which he attributed to dry eyes. During the consultation, he had told me that during the first month, when my eyes were healing, my vision might not be perfect. After the first month, my eyes should be healed, and everything should clear up. (I'll update this when one month is up). Overall, I would definitely recommend coming here. Doctor Kurwa told me that both of his daughters got their eyes done by him, so if a father is confident enough to operate on his own two daughters, you can trust your eyes with him too. read more

I went to Kurwa Eye Center after doing a lasik consultation at the Laser Eye Center. The Laser Eye Center wanted me to pay an additional $2000 because I had astigmatism. ..Which was frankly a way to scam more money out of me from a faceless corporation. Dr. Kurwa was personable, very informative, and affordable. In the consultation he listened carefully to my concerns and warned me of an possible side effects to opting for surgery. When I had the surgery, he made sure I was comfortable. The staff even brought me a cozy blanket to keep me warm (the lasers require a cool temp). He informed me what each of the steps would be like before he did it and walked me through everything. All in all it took 10 minutes and was relatively painless. 1 week after the surgery, I'm no longer sensitive to light (a temporary side effect) and I'm enjoying my 20 20 vision. Having done the laser surgery 4 days ago, my vision is 99percent of the way there. The staff was very friendly and the Doctor was great. I did not have to wait long at all. I have been to a lot of eye doctors over the years, and I came to Dr. Kurwa on the recommendation of another Doctor. Great call! He is so knowledgeable and easy to talk to as well. He saw me one week and a couple weeks later was removing a very bad cataract. I can now see again and am very happy with the results, so much so, that I brought my wife in to have her eyes checked. Dr. Kurwa is amazing at what he does. The 3rd day after laser eye surgery and I can see! I can see! No more scrambling looking for my glasses or wondering if it's time to change my contacts out. My eyes were bad and he reassured me that he will try to get me to normal. I'm fine with that. I still can not see well at night but I will discuss that with him. The experience was not painful but really uncomfortable but that is expected. I am such a baby when it comes to any pain or discomfort. Well worth it though. Your eyes feel dry and scratchy at first but it is expected with the type of procedure you had. Overall I love that I can wake up and not worry about glasses or contacts. read more

I have advanced glaucoma and was pretty much forced to have Kaiser (all that was being offered) They totally botched my surgery leaving me almost completely blind in my right eye, with no hope, compassion etc... Doctor Ali from Kaiser just coldly shrugged his shoulders and told me to surrender my driver's license. I was devastated to say the least! I decided to pay out of my pocket and RUN back to Dr. Kurwa. He encourages me, gives me hope and the best care. If I have an emergency with my eyes he is always available. There have been times that he would see me at his office on a Saturday or Sunday. I had lasik done 4 years ago and my experience was wonderful and the dr was very informative. My vision was amazing for 2 years after (I only had dry eyes). I had a baby and my vision was slowly declining which I was told would be possible but it still sucks. Now I have issues with dry eyes, halos, light sensitivity and hazy vision. My opthamologist that I've been seeing for two years says I have corneal wrinkles and my right eye is concerning since it curves. Hopefully I'll be getting that fixed because I can't see in glasses. I've had 3 prescriptions and I see double lights with glasses on, he said it's from the lasik. I'm writing this to warn people of the risks. Had a consultation at the Glendora office. Office is bit crowded and busy, but I'm sure that is because word of mouth fills the place with diverse customer base. Office staff is cordial and helpful, once you get in to a room they keep you moving forward. Dr. Kurwa is very cordial, quite knowledgable and most reassuring. He tells you straight up where you stand, offers options and is there to assist you in the world of eyesight. Very dedicated to his craft, he knows his stuff. Surgical office is presentable, staff cordial and professional, quite nice. You have to wait, then once you get in a room you zoom forward. Procedure was quick, a bit uncomfy but quite doable, and the doctor does a great job of explaining the process while he works. Almost like a good conversation between friends, then all of a sudden, it's done! They do a great job of getting you prepped for post surgery, good job of follow up. My eyesight is dramatically improved, I am quite thrilled at how well I can see, and have no need for glasses, except to read really small up close print, which is no big deal. I've only been to the Duarte location, but they share staff, and it is strictly the staff that deserves the single star. It took a few months for them to simply send the notes of my visit with Dr. Kurwa to my PCP. Weekly, they gave excuses and provided misinformation as to why the notes were still not sent, until I decided to just pick them up. I had lasik eye surgery yesterday, I got there a little early my appointment was at 1:30 pm went in at 2 pm. I understand the Dr was really busy I didn't mind the wait. However the only complaint was about a RUDE patient and her husband yelling at the receptionist and walking in the managers office like she Owned the office. She wanted to be seen right away when she was an hour late. To my knowledge if a patient is late the Dr has the right to refuse seeing the patient. The Dr. has 2 office locations. Glendora and Arcadia. Glendora office does not make the patient pay for copay. The copay, I believe, is charged to medicare or whatever is not covered by the primary insurance is charged to the secondary which is Medicare. Arcadia location on the other hand makes the patient pay. When the patient tells the office personnel about not having to pay, everyone gets this attitude of, "Well you're in this office." It's more like the attitude of "You are here to see a Great doctor and you should just pay." The office workers get this a stuck up attitude with the doctors' patients. They never called the other office. If you go to the offices just come in. Sit and watch how the workers behave. Listen to their verbiage with the patients. It's pretty sad that such a good doctor has bad employee attitude. Either office does not really know the location of the other store. They know the city , but not the address I am not denying that Dr. Kurwa is a good doctor. I have noticed that when you come in, the office workers are the ones that do the work from eye dialation to checkup...then in the last 5 minutes of your visit the doctor comes in the room to check their work. I'm sure the personnel are train but I came in to see the doctor. In any case just we wary of their front desk people. read more
