Then, once he recovered from that, had a fever that almost killed him and had to be hospitalized again. We had to keep him quarantined for a while and away from my other dog (a 7 year old Pomeranian at the time) and get all his vaccinations from the beginning. He was scared of literally every single noise and had anxiety about just about everything. Over time, he developed extreme food aggression and we were worried for the safety of my little Pom. He had been attacked a few times to the point of actual injury and it was extremely stressful for everyone. I was at my wits end and I felt like I had tried everything to help Gunnar (my Shiba) and protect Simba (my Pom). I did a lot of research and stumbled upon Jenina and sent her a message for private sessions where she would come to my apartment once a week. I believe I only used her for a little over a month but I am eternally grateful. The level of aggression Gunnar displayed was so dangerous that my roommate and I actually have been bitten with blood trying to protect Simba from harm where food is involved. The issue was that he wasn't aggressive with all foods and we were unaware the extent until it was too late (ex. we thought it was only wet food so we were giving a chew stick to them separately where I would have Simba sitting next to me on the couch and Gunnar would be on the floor away from Simba with my roommate and the switch was so sudden----from sweet to seemingly no warning lunging at Simba----I stuck my leg out to protect Simba and he bit my leg instead). I feel like at this point, a regular human being would give Gunnar up, but that wasn't an option. It wasn't an option when he came to me dying from Parvo, it wasn't an option when he had an almost fatal fever, and it wasn't going to be an option for me now. I was determined to find a way to help him because he is my baby and my responsibility. The vet suggested I contact a behavioral specialist and when I did, VCA told me the earliest appointment they had was months later. Fed up with waiting, I found Jenina. In a month's time, she had given me the tools to fix a seemingly impossible situation. Make no mistake---she made me work for it. She might come across brash to some people but she is very direct and straight to the point. She doesn't coddle you and makes sure she lets you know what you need to do because while the session is for dogs, it is actually more like training the parent. She gives you "homework" and training info and is only willing to help you if YOU do the work. Now, it wasn't a complete fix. He still has anxiety outdoors or unknown noises as well as food aggression but it is nowhere near what he used to be. Before Jenina, Gunnar couldn't even take a step outside the apartment building let alone go for a walk. Three years later, Simba has sadly since passed but he has a little brother that he is extremely patient with as he acts like a typical annoying little brother), his food aggression has gone down from 100 to 30, and we go out to all sorts of places. He is THRIVING and this is all thanks to Jenina. My roommate and I are on high alert and know what to look for in terms of triggers and are very quick to de-escalate aggression situations. We try our best not to avoid known triggers and we work with him every day to allow him to be his best self. He is the sweetest boy and we are so glad he's been able to show it instead of being overshadowed by aggression and anxiety. She also gave Gunnar his nickname---Gunny! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I am so sorry it took this long to leave this review but thank you so much for saving us. If we had listened to the VCA behavioral specialist that basically called Gunnar a monster and suggested we give him up, he probably would have been euthanized somewhere. We owe you so much.

The incident was extremely traumatic, and I felt that the situation was not handled properly by the staff. After the attack, I was particularly upset by how the staff handled the aftermath. Instead of properly checking on me or my dog, I felt they were more focused on comforting the owner of the dog that attacked mine. I was also unable to obtain the information needed to handle my dog's medical bills and to report to animal control should I desire. As someone who came to the class to help my anxious dog build confidence, I left with him more fearful and injured. I believe there are serious safety concerns that should be addressed to ensure this does not happen again to another dog or owner. I hope that by sharing my experience, the business will take steps to improve the safety and care of all dogs in their classes. Update: In response to the owner's comment: My dog's injuries were more severe than described. In addition to a small tear on his lip, he also had a puncture on his nose, and his face was swollen. I did not refuse to provide my information--I only requested the other owner's contact details to help with the vet bills or animal control if deemed necessary by my vet before I would give them my personal information which had nothing to do with anything as my dog was not the attacker. I believe more attention to safety and customer care is necessary to prevent future incidents like this. I've noticed that both owners of the dog that attacked my dog posted positive reviews after I shared my experience. This raises questions about their impartiality. It's clear who they favor, and it's frustrating. There seems to be little regard for the safety and well-being of others, both physically and mentally. This reinforces my belief that this place is not safe.

We knew our situation would require a special type of professional Trainer. One who could take on and handle two puppies at once... two puppies who are full of energy! We also knew that we didn't want them boarded and that we wanted their training to be on a daily basis. Because of my age and my balance issues, it would have been impossible for me to be transporting these active (unleash trained) girls daily. We needed a Trainer who could be flexible and would be willing to come to our house and handle training our two pups on a daily basis. The Trainer would not only have to teach them commands together, leash walking together, but also car seat and riding in the car manners. This wasn't going to be an easy task and it would mean that this Trainer would have to be willing to sacrifice their own needs in order to accommodate our needs. We needed a Trainer who wouldn't shy away from a challenging job. We found everything we could ask for and needed in the owner of Koda's Training company... Liliana (Lily) Aguilar! Lily obviously takes great pride in her job and her company. Lily is a confident dog Trainer! Lily was very accommodating and flexible while adding new command requests as we thought of them. Lily had great control with our two girls and yet used positive reinforcement and affection at the same time. Each day, Lily focused on new commands while always going over and reinforcing what she had already previously taught them. At the end of each day, Lily would go over with us what she had worked on with the girls and encouraged us to keep up with the reinforcements. Lily was always in command, but was also very loving with our girls. Both pups loved seeing Lily daily! The last couple of days (of 10 days total) were spent teaching both pups to walk together on a dual tandem leash holder so my husband could take them on their daily morning walks AND the riding in the car manners and commands. As you probably can tell... we are extremely happy with the decision we made in hiring Koda's Training! We would highly recommend Lily and her company! The shop owner was so understanding, calming & gentle with her. I was lucky & was able to get in on the spot as a walk in. It was perfect timing. My puppy came out so soft & shinny!! Because she has black toe nails, its hard to get them clipped short. But today I asked if they would grind them instead. What a professional "pawdicure" she was given. No nail polish though. I am very pleased with their services & will gladly book again, next time with an appointment. Enjoyable & relaxing atmosphere & great owners. PAWS DOWN, it was the best grooming day in a long time.

Maddie had been having some reactivity issues due to being attacked on 2 separate occasions by a bigger dog. Any time we would walk her, she would howl bloody murder. And if you know a beagle's howl, you know how loud it can get. The neighbors knew when we would be walking her because they could hear her for blocks. And people would stare at us as if we were horrible pet parents so we decided it was enough and contacted Diana for some help. As soon as we met her, she explained her process and how she works. And she explained how and why reactivity occurs. Everything was explained very easily and smoothly so that my spouse and I could understand why Maddie did certain things and how to correct them. We went ahead and did the 8 session package and met weekly with Diana. She laid the foundation for us and we increased training to build on that foundation. Lo and behold, Maddie no longer howls bloody murder when she sees another dog! One of our neighbors noticed and said that he can't tell anymore when we walk her because he doesn't hear us anymore.
