They were so friendly on the phone when they took our order and the subs were made very neatly and perfectly to order. All subs should come in a box like they provide! Best pizza in Rockford. Owners are great, always behind the counter and engaging. It's not the cheapest but it is by far the most consistent pizza around. Lots of high school students trying to hustle but they've been taught well about customer service and quality. Only complaint is that they took the tip line off of their receipts. I never carry cash and hate walking out without leaving something in the jar. read more

Husband called and ordered a pizza, after confirming the order and his name the call dropped. He tried to call back multiple time to verify the order but no answer. Immediately husband drove over to confirm and wait for our pizza. Call me nuts, but this understated place in a strip mall is my favorite pizza joint in Kent county. I lived here about four years before I found this place simply by process of elimination. When I moved here, people steered me to the usual pizzerias such as Florentine's, Vitale's, Uccello's and Marinelli's, but none hit me the way this place does. They don't even deliver, but maybe it's because it's good enough they don't have to. Great sauce that's not too sweet and the crust isn't like cardboard like so many other places. For those who are curious about my other favorite pizza place in Grand Rapids, that would be the Mitten microbrewery on Leonard. Between these two places, you can stop complaining about Grand Rapids pizza being second fiddle to big city pizza. read more

Here is my back story on Pizzeria Grande: After about a year driving by / around this place (mainly passing through or if I went to Vitale's on Belding Rd.) - I finally located this place by chance. It doesn't necessarily stand out (small and unsuspecting sign, in a plaza of which it doesn't stand out). I was actually trying to go to Vitale's and accidently pulled into the plaza where Pizzeria Grande is. I noticed on their sign "pizza and grinders" and I told myself I was going to check it out. Boy am I glad I did. I finally tried this place. For all reasons - not being pizza. I wanted a grinder (looking for something to harken back to my days in Lansing and Mancino's). So I gave this a try (among a few other items). Basically me and the family went for a little buffet style to try more than one item; a grinder, cheese bread, spaghetti. The grinder I had was the Sicilian and it was delish. The bread was the perfect combo of toasted crackling crust with a nice bready dough interior; not to mention the fresh and tasty elements of meat, mushroom, cheese, tomato, lettuce and mayo. All warm to perfection. Let me just mention too - the medium is more than enough and the large can feed multiple adults. The grande cheesy bread was awesome. It is by far one of the better I have had lately. When you want cheese bread - you want some thick and mouth watering bread with a nice helping of stringy cheese and this did the trick. Add some ranch and marinara sauce - it was tasty. The spaghetti with meatballs was a nice add as well. Certainly enough for one person - it came baked in a tine holder. A nice layer of cheese on top with small little meatballs throughout. Although not the best of the bunch - it certainly held its own. A further testiment - my five year old couldn't get enough of either the spaghetti or cheesy bread. So next up will be the pizza. Which I suspect will be equally as good. This is going to be one of my favorite stops if all holds true the next time I go there. I definitely recommend and would give this place a try. It's not somewhere that stands out. You may even pass it by - but it was worth a try (and the wait to find it). read more

Awesome grinders. My grand daughter works there and I finally tried the place out these past few months and am hooked.

Service here is awful. I ordered via phone and they told me it would be 45min. When I arrived 45min later they told me it would be another 5min. After waiting another 30min, seeing how unorganized they were and how far behind they've fallen (others were waiting another 45min and counting after their order should have been completed) I asked for my money back. I could now see that after 1hr and 15min after my order was placed, the pizza was sitting there getting cold (with numerous others) while my bread sticks hadn't even been started yet. The Manager was tossing roni while she should have been getting things moving. When I told her she should be managing things, she replied stating she didn't know what was happening. Realize the lobby and parking lot were full of people waiting on orders that should have been ready. What pisses me off the most is that they continually told people it would be another 5min when in reality people were waiting another 45min+. Never again! read more

We didn't find this place until after we moved out from downtown Rockford and was looking for something new. This is hands down the best pizza we've eaten in the area. The whole family loves it. The grinders are great too. Even better, we had family traveling through the east. They first went to New York City and then traveled through to visit us. We introduced them to pizzeria grande and they too thought it was the best pizza they have ever eaten. Including New York City! They were amazed that it was better then what they had there. To this day, my sister will call me and cries that she wants some more. I'm thrilled that I was able to find it. I'm amazed that a reviewer says that Vitales is 1000x better. I know taste buds are different. It would be a very boring world if everyone was the same. But don't believe her. I would go to pizzeria grande any day before I went there.
