I didn't have high expectations for this place ... a chain restaurant in a strip mall, which looks like they hired a designer for TGIFriday's. Everything about it feels corporate and 'cheesy', no pun intended. I flew into Detroit for business and had only an hour to grab lunch, so visiting the original location in downtown Detroit, where Detroit style pizza was 'invented' wasn't a possibility. This outpost would have to do. On a Thursday at 2 p.m. it was almost empty. This became more obvious due to the incredibly cancerous size of the restaurant. Bad sign. I sat at the bar and the most wonderful and sweet bartender waited on me. She was so helpful and nice ... in a Midwestern kind of way. The pizza (pepperoni ... old style) came out and I noticed that it looked like something you'd get at a ballgame or concert. Nothing special looking about it. However, the taste was amazing. It tastes the way I remember pizza tasting when I was around 10 years old ... so good and flavorful! I def. would have judged a book by its cover had I not tasted it. The cheese is very good and doesn't taste cheap. Sauce is acidic and no issues there. The crust is buttery and spongy. The only issue I had was that the toppings were super stingy. I think pepperoni was $3 extra on the small 4-slice pizza. When it came out, I was bummed out by how little pepperoni was on the pizza. Despite the cheapskate topping percentage, the pepperoni was good. Slightly cupped, a bit of a smokey taste and reminded me a bit of Prince Street Pizza in NYC. (Although I give Prince Street a slight edge in the taste) The house beer was pretty good as well and tasted like a cross between Blue Moon and Allagash. It comes in a frosted mug, which is a great touch. Even better .... when the bull came, the waitress had added a lunch special cost, which brought the cost of the pizza and beer down 25%. I never even noticed. I am already craving another Buddy's pizza. Hope to come back one day because this is delicious. read more

Service was fantastic, our server was polite, cheerful and very attentive. Inside was nice, good balance of booth, and table seating. The salad with the house made dressing is where it's at. The medium fed 4 men and plenty left over. Good amount of cheese and meat in the salad. The pizza was good, but I may have hyped it up in my mind. Crust was thicker, but could have used more of a crispy edge with caramalized cheese that I think of when talking Detroit style pizza. Somehow I'd never managed to have a meal from Buddy's so really just needed to give it a try. This review is in relation to a pickup order, so I can't speak to in restaurant service. I decided to try the Mediterranean pizza because the whole concept of beets on a pizza sounded tasty, rather like pineapple for sweetness which I do like on my pizza (don't judge!!), I called in to place the order because some people in my party have some food allergies and I needed to make sure that was all good. The person answering the phone was super friendly and answered all of my questions. I was hoping to get the spinach lasagna as well but alas they were out, so went for the regular cheese lasagna. Everything was ready when they said it would be and the pickup staff were very friendly. They have a separate entrance at this location for pickup which was super convenient! The lasagna was good but the pizza was the best part, the crust was just right and the toppings made a great combo. I shall have to come back to try more and eat in! read more

After a long day of walking at the Henry Ford Museum and Village, the kids wanted to swim at the hotel and have some pizza. Sounded good to me. I asked a friend from the area where to go and he suggested Buddy's. Now I am a fan of many styles of pizza from Chicago to New York styles. This was my first experience with Detroit style and it was a good one. The crust with the burnt cheese had amazing flavor and the Detroiter from Buddy's was a perfect place to start. Rich, sweet marinara and creamy mozzarella were the perfect compliment to the crust and pepperonis. The kids loved it and so did mom and dad. I typically am pretty cautious when it comes to buffalo wings in places I'm not familiar with but I took a chance on those as well. They were delicious! Meaty and flavorful. Not fatty and not too much breading. I got the mild and the plain. Enjoyed both. Also grabbed some buddy bread with the buddy sauce which was a Parmesan sauce I believe. Whatever it was it was awesome. It was hard to wait to eat once the smell filled the car on the way back to the hotel. Definitely going back to Buddy's anytime we are back in Michigan. Decided to order a carry out pizza from Buddy's in Woodhaven, a quick 10 minute drive from my house. It's been touch and go at times on their Pizza, light on the cheese and toppings but I love their pizza so I took a gamble to order again. Young lady on the phone was very nice and polite when I called. I ordered a large Sicilian pizza and requested it cooked crispy. Arrived and they were just taking it out of the oven. Got home and realized it felt pretty heavy and thought to myself that maybe they got their ACT together and turning out Buddy's pizza the way it should be!! When credit is due, you give it out and I have to say our Pizza was just delicious, cooked perfectly crispy, generous on the cheese and toppings! Way to go people, you have made me a believer again!! Restaurant was almost completely empty. There may have been 5 tables, 2 of which had already been served. We came in (4 of us) and asked to be seated in a booth which the hostess obliged. We settled in noticed there 3 servers standing around not doing anything. We waited approximately 10 minutes....nobody came to the table. Then another family walked and were seated two booths away from us. Within minutes, a server walked past us, and took the drink order of the family that just walked in. We were patient thinking it may have just been an oversight. She brought them their drinks and walked the back again without even acknowledging us. The same server then walked back to that table and took their order. All in all, we waited 15 minutes without a single employee coming over to even acknowledge us let alone take a drink order. We walked out feeling completely disrespected. We will never be back. We will never beg a restaurant for their food or to take our money. read more

I paid these morons over $15 dollars in fees and tip to deliver me 2 pizzas and breadsticks across the road. Without telling me, they sent this to doordash. EDIT: Buddy's has some nonsense rebuttal trying to blame a "third-party delivery service" for this. This is Buddy's fault. Period. Let me explain to you the pizza delivery social contract: I pay you a hefty fee and the driver a decent tip and you bring me my pizza. If you have a third-party delivering the pizzas who cannot find the place, they should be on the phone with Buddy's not me. They give this third-party your number to call, not theirs! The young lady behind the counter was very nice and the salad was very good BUT I ordered a large anitpasta salad. That should come with dressing. I paid $3.99 extra for more dressing. All I rec'd was the bottle I paid for. I was not given the dressing that should automatically come with the salad. Since I was not given the original dressing the bottle I paid for was no longer"extra". So I basically paid $4 to get the dressing that should have been free. Not cool. read more

The biggest surprise was that it only cost me about the same as the other pizza place (the one where I ask for extra sauce but rarely actually get it). It was New Year's Day this year 2023. My wife and I brought 9 of family members here all for the first time. It was a slow time in the afternoon 3:30ish. We were all seated and served rather promptly as well. Everyone's meals came out rather quick and accurate too. The decor was nice. Looked kinda retro but, very clean and modern. The music that was being played over the speakers was 1980 hits. A lot of good songs. I seen other patrons singing along during their own meals. I thought the pizza was a little pricey for the smaller portions. But, was impressed with the Caesar salad that came in a big serving bowl. We'll come back again. No pictures on this post. read more

This is the 3rd time I've tried this location. I've been a fan of the Dearborn location for years. The 2nd time I wasn't thrilled. This time may have completely turned me off. We ordered 2 4-squares and the dough was so crispy on both that it was hard to bite into. The cheese also seemed saltier than normal. The antipasto salad was good but still seemed different than the Dearborn location. The salami seemed a little off. The ranch was on point as usual. May give a 4th try, but I'm so disappointed in how much I spent for leftovers we won't get to eat. After reading the other reviews I have to wonder, why aren't they improving? I posted on my Facebook page and every comment is negative. This is really sad. Many were excited to get a Buddys Downriver but it is just not good. read more

So this isn't the first time we've been to a buddy's pizza. We've been to the Dearborn Buddy's and the first time wasn't good, but the second time was. Both times I was disappointed in the beer, and since I'm not really a fan of detroit style pizza, I haven't been inclined to return. But my girlfriend wanted to go, and you know, what the girlfriend wants... And what a good thing that we went, because the new buddy's is great. We went on Sunday, and had great service from our bartender. I had two beers and both were served in chilled glasses and cold. Suck it, Dearborn Buddy's! And the pizza was great. It is detroit style, thick and square, but the crust is airier than you might expect and delicious - loved the onions on it. The decor is light and informal and all the condiments were right there for us. Special tip of the hat to the Bocce IPA that I thoroughly enjoyed. More than willing to go back. read more

We always make a point to stop at Buddy's when we are going anywhere near Detroit. It's definitely one of our favorite pizzas. The Detroiter is a classic choice, but you really can't go wrong with any of their pizzas. Also suggest getting the cheesy garlic bread. I visit Southfield and Novi locations and love how they bake the pepperoni underneath...that's a signature move buddy's is known for however this location half did the job. First of all let me say we love Buddy's Pizza and everything else they have. The problem is the Woodhaven location is nothing, I mean nothing like what the Dearborn location. Watery sauce on the Detroiter and the garlic bread with cheese was worse then frozen. Plus the service has not been great. Our appetizer always comes late or they have forgotten. This has been going on since there Grand Opening. We even asked the Manager at the beginning why the food was different but he had no answer. Trust me we have been going to Buddy's in Dearborn for 30 years without incident. Try that location read more
