With many people working from home, I needed a shade for a sliding glass door in a previously little-used home office which was baking in the late afternoon sun. Once shelter in place opened up a bit, we arranged for Kartik to come evaluate our options. Kartik arrived on time and masked, and immediately asked a series of questions to help us figure out what we wanted. There are multiple kinds of fabrics. He set up a mini display of colors and shade types, explaining the pros and cons of each. We settled on a type to block out the sun (solar shade) but we could still see through it to the outside (size of the holes in the fabric). After measuring the opening, Kartik followed up with important details we wouldn't have thought of: chain position, bump out to clear the door handle, offset to cover the door casement, etc. Before he left, he reviewed everything and explained the custom fabrication would take a bit longer (3-4 weeks) due to the plant being behind because of the shutdown. 4 weeks later, Kartik emailed to schedule an install. Sean, the installer, arrived on time and masked. After confirming the details of the order, he told us it would take 30-45 mins to install. Less than 30 mins later, we have a new solar shade. I leave it up in the morning for natural light and lower it in the early afternoon -- which is definitely keeping the room cooler. Kartik and Sean were both personable and helpful. We used Kartik and his crew this week to install 6 blinds, including 2 motorized, and couldn't be happier so far. The motorized blinds are quiet, use easily replaced D-cell batteries, and come with a hub that requires an Ethernet port on your router that enables controlling the blinds from your smartphone. They have their own app, and on the iPhone it integrates with Siri to allow voice control. Once we decided what we wanted and paid a 50% deposit, installation happened as soon as the parts came in 4 weeks later. I went through yelp reviews and found Budget Blinds. I made an appointment for an assessment by a phone call 2 weeks before the appointment date but Kartik was right on time and brought the catalogs and samples. We did not know much about blinds or shutters and he was very patient and answered all the questions that we have. He also shows the photos of his previous work, which was very helpful for us to understand how it would look like. We mada another appointmeent for them to come and get the measurement for each window and again he came on time and measured each window. We decided to go with the expedited shipment option since we needed the blinds for the rooms that are facing the street. Kartik kept us informed on the status and finally came for installation. After installation, he went over each blind and informed us that he would replace one piece which has a very minor dent on wood. We contacted him for some questions regarding blind that was installed and he was very responsive and told us that he would order the part that we thought it was defective.
