My experience with the car was very bad - but when I returned it to Baltimore International Airport, I had a wonderful experience. I asked to see the manager and Kvohn Griffin came right out. He was professional, listened to my long story (which you can read here under the 1 star reviews - my grandson posted it for me so it says it's by Caleb C), was willing to get in the car and experience what I did, because I asked him to. He was wonderful, gave us our money back and asked another - very nice - employee to drive us to the airport so we wouldn't need to take the bus. He was then going to send the car for examination and special, deep cleaning. He gave me his contact info and responded to several texts I sent after the fact. Even with our windows down, we are hot-boxing it to McGaheysville, VA, - against our will - late on a Thursday night. We flew into Baltimore International Airport and picked up our Budget rental car - the last of what they had left - and we were told it was an upgrade. It was a Tacoma truck and we'd reserved a mid-sized sedan. We were tired. Had a lot of luggage. Didn't care. When I opened the door, I thought a skunk had been in the car. We got to the check out kiosk, after squishing all our luggage into the back "seat", and when we pulled up to the checkout kiosk and opened the window, the young man winced - "Please note that it smells like smoke so we don't get blamed." I said. "It's weed," he said. Ah yes, I remember that smell from the 70's! We had to drive 20 minutes to our sleeping destination with all four windows open - this did wonders for my mood as I'd forgotten how exhausting and loud it is to drive with windows all the way down. The car would be going back in the morning. NO way were we going to pay five hundred dollars for five days of this. My husband called Budget in the morning and - they said all they could offer was for us to go to the nearest Budget and tell them we wanted an exchange. They took no information from us. We drove to Bowie, MD and walked into a room with five tired looking customers. The lovely woman behind the counter asked what we needed and then told us she had no cars and that there were none for many miles around. We asked if anyone wanted to trade a for a truck with a muddy bed decorated with Corona caps (not ours) that smells like a weed dispensary. They laughed and we left. We drove to Mcgaheysville, for a family reunion, in heavy traffic, with the windows all the way down. I asked my husband to pull over so I could search through my luggage for my inhaler, and I fretted that my son would not want a single one of his six kids exposed to the toxic smell in this truck. Update. Arrived. Left the windows open all night. No change in the overwhelming smell. All of the adults came out of the house to check it out and noted that they could smell it within five feet of the car. Some are worried we'll be pulled over and arrested. Some think we should break a taillight TO get pulled over and then we can blame Budget. Some think it smells so strong that there must be weed hippen in the side panels. Some think we should call my son's cop friend and have his retired drug dog - trained on marijuana - come and freak out on the car. My daughter-in -law - who is corporate, is outraged, says it's unacceptable and she's going to address it. My sister, who is in San Diego, also corporate, has already been on the phone trying to get us a new car - unsuccessfully as of now. They don't know my sister. All the kids overheard us talking about hot-boxing, and various old-school names for pot and went out to sniff the car. We now have to define words we were not yet ready to define. I'm tired and just want a new car AND ALL our money back. By, the way, my brother - who in the 70's was what we called a "stoner" - thinks the whole thing is hysterical. I don't read more

The location of the check-in desk is inside the Radisson but I parked right out front because the hotel itself is CLOSED! Signage to find the desk is not great--it's in the old hotel's gift shop--but the Budget guy was nice enough. Returning my rental was quick and easy. read more

This location was the worst experience. The office is dirty and small, as soon as you walk into the building it's unsettling. There was a whole situation with my reservation but long story short I was there for almost 2 hours because the 2 people working there had absolutely no idea what they were doing and would become rude when I would ask questions about the services they should know, I was charged TWICE for my reservation of $1600 because they couldn't work their card machine correctly. Had to deal with customer service which took forever to get a refund. The whole time I felt like I was being screwed over. I would avoid this location at all costs - it will not go smooth and you will waste time and money. read more

This is a fairly small Budget car rental location, located inside the Radisson Hotel. There is only one person working the counter, so you may have to wait to be served. I arranged to return my car rental to this location. Parking in front of the hotel is shared, so the valets were not happy that I parked there. They were also somewhat clueless when I said that I was returning the rental car. Instead, they had me park off to the side near where incoming traffic would come through. Once inside the hotel, returning the car was simple. Their dot matrix printer is slow, so bear with them as they print out your receipt line by line. If I could give this location 0 stars, I would. First and foremost, the owner admitted without hesitation that the vehicles are not cleaned between customers, which contradicts company policy and is a direct health hazard amid the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic. On arrival, I was told that no full size vehicles were available despite pre-paying for that specific size vehicle and that I would be provided a smaller midsize car at the same price. Nonetheless, I retrieved my mid size vehicle, which was filthy on the interior and exterior. I checked reservations online to find that there was, in fact, a $10 difference in pricing between a mid and full sized car. I returned to the service desk to request an alternate vehicle due to sanitary concerns and to have my reservation changed to a midsize due to the difference in price. The owner swapped for a different midsize vehicle and assured me that he would provide me with a $10 refund and a $15 discount for my troubles when I returned the car. He also said that I could return later to exchange my vehicle for a full size car or go to the airport where they have a larger selection. Mind you... what if I required a larger size vehicle for a pressing matter, or I was unable to return to swap my vehicle for the appropriate size at a later time due to travel plans? I sensed that he was untrustworthy and asked that he write the discount information down on my contract. I opted to keep the relatively cleaner midsize car that was inappropriately provided to me at a 1/4 tank of gas and unfortunately had to extend my rental for personal reasons. On return, the owner was not present and his daughter called him to verify the refund/discount information in a brief 10s phone call. She said, "He didn't say anything like that." I requested to speak with the owner and she repeatedly denied my request, stating that he was in a meeting and I could come back during their regular business hours to talk with him. As far as I know, regular business hours are the hours you're open, but I said that I would wait until he was out of his meeting and continued to cite the numerous issues I encountered at pickup and now drop off. She became increasingly unprofessional, standing up, pointing, and shouting at me (see picture) and demanding that security remove me from the lobby before I even officially returned the vehicle. I tried to search for the owner's contact information to no avail. Security tried to diffuse the situation as I repeatedly cited my issues and requested to speak to the owner. In a private conversation, the security officer hinted that shady business practices are a part of how this family business operates and that it was wasted effort. Don't expect sanitary practices or quality customer service from this location. Better yet, avoid it at all costs. read more

I was very disappointed with this budget car rental location. When I originally arrived the associate was very polite and answered all my questions. When I came to return the vehicle is when things went very sour. The gentleman who was working there did not care at all about customer service. He made a mistake on my rental and refused to rectify it and informed me that I had to contact their customer service line in order to rectify the situation. I was very clear about me not feeling comfortable to contact customer service when he was a member of the The company but he was still not willing to help whatsoever. I believe that he could have made more of an effort to try to fix the problem that he caused himself. I know that mistakes do happen but it's not about the mistake it's about how it was handled after the mistake was made on behalf of the sales associate.
