I really wanted to rate them higher because the initial experience was so great. When I got the car 2 ladies were working quickly and efficiently and they could not have been more pleasant and helpful. Got the car I reserved quickly and was on my way. Got to the car itself and not bad but not great. The car appeared cleaned but not vacuumed. There was grass everywhere in the trunk as well as the floor of the backseat area. Car itself was just what I ordered and ran well, no problems. When I dropped off the car I wanted a final closed out receipt. The lone woman working was on the phone with a customer. I certainly understood waiting but the conversation went on for at least 10 minutes while I was standing there. She even asked what I needed figuring she would put the customer on hold to check me out or multitask neither of which happened. The actual check out process took about a minute. She was quite pleasant both on the phone as well as with me just a little disappointed I had to wait so long. Well, they don't have one. Not even in the terminal. The line is the same for everyone. WTF? Our management told us to rent dirty cars." I made 6 phone calls to somewhere offshore where I was told EVERY TIME that the system was down and to call back in two hours. I'm on vacation, mind you, in. Yellowstone National Park. After filing an official complaint through email and sending photos and 10+ emails, I was told I would be given a 20% discount. The service at the Asheville Airport is absurdly horrible and horrendous. To book a car weeks in advance and arrive only to be told that it could be 4 hours before they may have a car...what are they doing. There are families here with small children that are being told the same thing. The gentleman at the counter said there is nothing that he can do and, "the problem is, nobody cares". How dare Budget overbook and completely disrupt our trip, our lives. Again, only to be told that no one cares. It's simple math...you rent the number of cars that you know you will have. I rented a car for one night on Christmas night because our flight got in late and we didn't want to ask anyone to pick us up. The rate was $49 for one day. I returned the car the next afternoon, after about 18 total hours and was checked in by an attendant in the garage. He said they would email the receipt. That night, I checked on the Budget app and it showed the car had not been checked in and was "late". The next morning I drove to the airport, parked my car in a shuttle lot because parking was so full, took the shuttle to the airport and walked to the rental car return lot. I had previously photographed my car odometer and the car in the spot and the spot number at the airport. Although the car was not in that spot any more, I found it on the next aisle over and photographed it there. I then went in and talked to the agent and, at first all seemed good. I told her the situation and showed her the pictures with the date and time stamp. She then told me it had been checked in and I asked for a receipt, to which she responded that I would get it by email. I told her that is what they said the previous day and I would like a paper receipt. After pushing back on me twice, she reluctantly printed a receipt. The receipt showed a late charge, an extra day of rental, and a gas service charge and the total was $127! I told her that this was not acceptable and she said I would need to talk with customer service. I told her I was talking with customer service and she told me that she was a reservations agent, not customer service. We went back and forth on this and she finally gave me the customer service number, so I called it and it was closed. She said there was nothing she could do. So, I have already reversed the charges on my credit card until they fix it, but just so everyone knows, this office is incompetent, unfriendly, not customer focused, and is OK charging you 2 1/2 times what they quoted. I have used Budget in other parts of the country with good experiences so I thought the Asheville NC airport location would be the same. I was wrong! I had reserved online several days in advance, but when I got to the counter there were no cars available. After a long wait I did get a car. The car was fine and I completed my trip and returned the car with a full tank of gas like I had agreed to. But then I saw on my credit card statement that Budget had charged me $50.00 extra for bringing the car back empty. I am in the process of disputing the charge, but this experience has destroyed my faith in Budget and I will never use them again. read more

I made my reservation thru Costco and it was very easy to pick up and drop off. I do wish we did not have to go back inside to the counter to drop off but given the small size of the airport not a big deal. The staff was friendly and we did not have any issues. read more

Customer service having car that was reserved there for the reservation. I recently rented a minivan that I needed seven passengers in, and I made the reservation several months in advance to go to pick up location and be told that there are no vans at this location and offered me a five passenger vehicle, which would never work I called the one 800 number and they were no help at all very rude. Didn't offer anything to help out said there was nothing they could do so after being there somebody finally turned in a seven passenger small SUV which we had to take unfortunately and had a horrible time getting everything loaded because it would not fit like in the minivan we were promised, and we were told it was an upgrade and when you look at the price online, it is actually cheaper than the minivan very disappointed have asked for manager to call me back several times not received a phone call and every time I call I'm told I can't just speak to a manager. The agent that checked me in was a huge liar and tried to take advantage of me a sell me things that I didn't want or ask for. I told him I didn't need them and he said they are not negotiable and that he couldn't control the extra cost. My bill was twice what I had agreed to online. Miraculously after I came back in and said I was going to need a refund and I was going to another rental car agency for my car the prices were suddenly negotiable and controllable by him. My bill went from $786 ish to $376 ish. Apparently Budget, the Government, and LAX airport suddenly changed their rules while I was on site and made these fees negotiable for him. CRAZY! I wasn't staying too far from the airport, so I took an Uber ($25.00) and planned to come back the next day. The next morning, I called Ashville Budget location to confirm that they had my car. I called at least 10 times over 2 hours and no one answered the phone. I called corporate Budget and they were not able to assist me. Uber & Lyft were not available to take me back to the airport. I had to hired a car service ($55.00). I was then told it would be an hour wait for them to get a car ready . I asked the agent since technically I have been waiting since last night could I be moved up in the line and was told no. The rental agent told a group of us Sorry, but this is the new normal and we should be glad we would be getting a car. Two hours later I finally got the car and left the airport. Thinking this was the end of my Budget debacle. At check-out The agent sold me the pre-paid fuel option. I thought it made sense for this trip, she told me I could always bring it back full and it wouldn't be a problem. I did bring it back full because I didn't drive as much as I thought. Upon returning the car the same agent asked me for the fuel receipt. I was then told that Budget would not give me a credit on my prepaid fuel purchase unless I had had the receipt. I do not remember her telling me this when I checked out the car. She may have but I was so anxious to get out of the airport after waiting so long I may not have heard her. In any case can this really be the policy? It is clear the car was full the gage over the full line. She was very rude, and her attitude angered me. I have never been treated so poorly and had a simple thing like a car rental mis-managed so badly. Worst car rental service I have ever received. Rude at the counter upon check in. Was told that they would "holler" at me when my rental was ready. After 30min of standing around, I was called to the counter. I was told to go to the parking garage and wait in the bottom floor until my car was brought to me. Once I got to the kiosk in the bottom floor of the parking garage I was greeted with a line of customers (10 - 12 people). After an hour I was finally at the front of the line, but somehow it didn't matter. All three people behind me got their rentals before mine was brought around. I called budget to ask for my return time to be moved back to my actual pick up time and they said it would cost ~$200. They also said that they had no role in changing the rental times and that I needed to call the counter directly. The counter phone never rang through despite several attempts. Go with anyone else but Budget. No one was in the National or Hertz lines and their service was seemingly prompt from what I observed (both at the counter and in car delivery). read more

I originally rented from Budget of a different location, but unfortunately had an issue with the vehicle. Although it only had a little over 1k miles on it, after making it from Charlotte, NC area to Asheville, it clunked out on me. While on the expressway it would not accelerate beyond 35mph and the engine light came on with and error message:ENGINE POWER REDUCED. I called roadside and the dispatcher suggested I drive the vehicle to nearest budget despite me having described the problems I was having. I refused to do so expressing to him that I didn't feel safe since it kept stalling trying to accelerate at stop lights. Tow driver (Hendersonville Towing and Recovery) arrived in well under an hour and took me a few miles to this location. From the moment I arrived they were unprofessional. One of the staff began disputing with the tow driver that he needed to take the disabled vehicle to South Carolina and demanded to know who authorized him to drop it there. He even went back outside to retrieve his authorization documents. When he returned the same staff member got on the phone and bickered some more with someone that the airport location did not have availability to service the vehicle so it needed to go to SC. I heard her tell whomever was on the line that the dispatcher had informed them of the exhange, but not that they needed to take a disabled vehicle. Meanwhile I'm standing there as another staff member is in process with exhanging my vehicle. Eventually I was issued keys to new vehicle. I Informed them that my items were still on the back of the tow (in the disabled vehicle) so that I still could not leave yet. The staff told me that was my problem with the tow driver, not Budget. Well HELLO I was kind of being held in limbo as BUDGET'S STAFF were not allowing the driver to drop the vehicle as he had been ordered!!! The tow driver overheard her rudeness and cut in, advising me to retrieve the new vehicle and meet him outside to retrieve my belongings. The issue is that the tow was expecting a quick exchange of vehicle which he could easily unload my belongings yet the staff was giving him a hard time. I felt the staff was very Insensitive that I was overhearing this exhange. Nor did I receive an apology [from them] on behalf of Budget for the inconvenience. They were just abrupt towards me, as if it were my fault I was issued a raggedy vehicle! The vehicle I received (DODGE JOURNEY) in exchange was bigger (which I did not want bigger), but in no way comparible to what I had dropped off (CHEVY EQUINOX) as it was an older model so did not have the features that I desired and had in the first vehicle. The Bluetooth and touchscreen was also janky in the JOURNEY. I really don't even see what the big deal was anyway because if I had driven the vehicle in as dispatcher had suggested then who would have taken the vehicle to SC? Damn sure not me... I have no intention of using budget again for vehicle rental. read more

Car was dirty when we received it. Then after 2 months!!!! we received a letter accusing us that we damaged the mirror and we need to pay. Which is absolutely not true. There was no damage done by us. When we called the person couldn't even tell us WHICH mirror the damage was on! The other time I had to rent a car they gave me the wrong one and made me run around to make sure that I am not mistaking.... Front tires completely bald. Multiple leaks in front left tire from being extremely worn. I only checked the vehicle for dents, windshield cracks when I picked the car up and did not notice the tires being in the condition that they were in. I booked this reservation months in advance. After I picked up Thursday afternoon, I drove the car from Asheville to Wilkesboro. On Saturday, I drove the car from Wilkesboro to Greensboro to visit family. I noticed the tire losing pressure on the drive but didn't think anything of it. When we came back out to the car 2 hours later the tire was flat. No spare tire. We pumped it up and put fix a flat in it. I was hung up on by customer service multiple times by being put on hold (instead they hung up) or by being transferred to a number out of my area. Customer service then told me to go to a budget to swap the car out. I went to budget on 3309 W Gateway Blvd, they closed at 1pm. I went to Budget at Greensboro airport. She asked me why I didn't check the tires before taking the car, and said it's not her fault that Asheville gave us a bad car. That she didn't have a car to give me anyways and that it's not her problem. My fiancé came in from bringing the stuff out the car, and asked her why we're paying hundreds of dollars and we have an unsafe car to drive. She said she wouldn't talk to him, that it was close to 5pm so she was just going to wait till she can leave, they got in an argument, yelling, etc. She said she would call airport police, so he went to get them. He left and then she told me that she had a car to give me but since my fiancé argued with her she wouldn't give it to me now. Police came by and agreed the car was unsafe, but said they can't make her give us another car as it's a civil dispute. No other rental companies had a car. I had to drive back to Wilkesboro to get my stuff at the campsite, and stopped and filled up with air around 4 times. We talked with Roadside assistance and they said they would send us a car from Douglas NC, I explained to them that I had a flight at 7am in Asheville, and that if the car doesn't get here by 4am I wouldn't be able to make it (drive is 2 hours plus 1 hour to get through TSA). Upon calling dispatch at around midnight and being on the phone with them for almost two hours I found out they never got a car sent to us. I took a shower to wake myself up, and then decided to just drive to the airport while the tire still had air in it. We bought an air compressor from Walmart. I had to drive in unsafe, heavy fog, mountainous conditions from Wilkesboro to Asheville NC from 1am to 5am, stopping to fill tire every 15 minutes. I had to use 4 cans of fix a flat. I left a note on the turn in paperwork and put the key in the drop off box as there was no one at the desk at the time, probably too early on a Sunday morning. After numerous calls to customer service, I finally got in contact with the Asheville manager Denise. She was very nice and listened to my issues. She said the the car came in late from another state, and they checked the car, however it was dark and they missed the tires' condition. I guess it was dark every time it was inspected before that, because these tires should have been replaced over a year ago. However, I was only given $300 back from my total of $476.97. My fiancé and my life was put in danger, and I feel I should be given a full refund. I will never rent from this company again, and I advice others from doing the same. read more

I have rented from Budget many times in the past few months for work. This last time I was charged a $250 cleaning fee due to dog hair. My dog was in the car for 30 minutes and doesn't shed much. They took no pictures to show me the alleged dog hair and refused to refund the fee. I don't have the time to go to small claims court to fight this and it would cost more to have a lawyer do it for me. Unless, you have money to donate, I suggest you go anywhere else but here. Can drive it (after my BIL changes the tire) to Norfolk VA 2 hours to swap cars. OR after HE changes the tire HE can take the tire in for repair so he can drive it further than 70 miles. Due to unfortunate circumstances I had to rent a car on short notice. Unfortunately I did not recognize the differences between doing this through Expedia and the airport Budget rental counter/website. I checked on prices - and in the time I left the page to check something else and came back to the site the price had risen significantly. First disappointment. It came out to $100 a day, for a subcompact. I made a comment that I couldn't believe it was that much. She told me it was all about inventory and because I didn't understand that I couldn't understand. I said what is really about it that you know there are few rentals left and you would charge what you thought the market would bare. of course we disagreed back and forth - and while I was outspoken I was not yelling. Then she threatened to have me removed from the airport. I had told her when I walked up I only really wanted one day as I just couldn't afford $100 a day for a subcompact. Back and forth more threats - I was asking questions I did not understand. One was I had to sign that I had not requested insurance when I clearly had. "oh that isn't with you that is with the third party you made the reservation through it has nothing to do with us." I indicated that was not clear - well of course not - that was Expedia's problem since they booked it." Well as a person who has not reserved a car in two years I was unfamiliar with that. So the first receipt was for the two days - I indicated we agreed that it was only one - oh yes she agreed. I had not signed it. I get home and they charged me for BOTH the 2 day and the 1 day in one receipt (which covered the same day) - I did not sign any receipt for that, only for the 1 day. I called their 800 number and the answer I got was, oh yes that happens in the next few days I would get my $200+ dollars refunded. Then I did get annoyed - I did not sign a contract for that but they said they had the right to charge me and it would be refunded in a few days. I said I didn't understand their right to keep my money for something I did not sign. Well of course that was the problem of ordering through the third party - I still don't understand how that can be - charged for something I did not receive and did not sign up for. The final insult was because "I was local it takes a while to check up, especially on locals" - yes and older woman with white hair - not sure what they thought I was going to do with it. While I recognize this is probably all hidden in tiny print somewhere that I didn't see - especially because I went through the third party, These dealings were disappointing and I felt fully taken advantage of by this company from the high rate to "checking up on locals" and saying they could charge me for a contract I never signed and keep the money for a few days. I had a trip planned to drive from Asheville up to Northern Minnesota within 60 miles of the Canadian border. I initally read the bad reviews but after looking at the pricing from all rental agencies I decided on Budget. I did take the initiative to call them prior to my picking up the car and actually went down to look at the options I had. I sure did not want to be stuck in a vechile that I did not like for over 3,000 miles. I can tell you not only were they helpful but when I called the day I was picking up my car I asked what they had in stock at that moment and when they told me I asked for them to hold it. Which they did. When I picked up the car it was quick, no issues whatsoever and they even told me if I did not like the car for any reason to come back in and they would switch it out. When I returned the car, I was so happy with it that I picked up flowers and delivered them along with my rental. I did ask every time if they were busy when I called and if so I would call back. I think the people that get off of their flights and stand in line for their car may be a little impatient. Just my thoughts though. I would give Budget 0 stars if I could. 4 hour weight at Norfolk Virginia Airport in a line that wrapped around baggage claim to pick up the car we reserved. They only had 2 people working at the counter! When we called to see if we could just cancel our reservation due to the wait they stated they would still have to charge us! It is completely unreasonable to not provide the service that is paid for of -providing transportation in a reasonable amount of time and still expect to be paid!! We waited for 4 hours with a 9 month old. They should be ashamed. No shame in pleading ignorance sometimes - I did NOT know that these two are even TOGETHER before this experience, never mind that it isn't a recent development - Cendant bought each one 13 and 14 years ago!! I only guessed it was the case when I approached the Budget counter to get our car, to be greeted by a 'we're-not-here' sign and an offer of "We can help you over here" from the neighboring Avis counter. Not sure why, in this day and age, it takes SO LONG to get each customer a car. What - is it a SURPRISE that I show up at their counter expecting my car when I have a reservation? I really need to stick to my loyalty to National perhaps, occasional savings be damned, since they get me (and others who are Emerald members) a car in an average of one second flat. Problem is, in this supply & demand game, the difference can be $20 and up, a day! I once stood in line at a Knoxville Alamo counter for close to an hour!!! I know they're with National, but service in general is difference of night and day, and I swore I'd never rent from Alamo again, only to do so again soon after, and YUP - almost the same long wait. Back to this incident... after waiting a good 15 minutes, a very polite Avis agent greeted me - the same one who beckoned me before, even as she was serving another customer. Two thousand key strokes later on - yeah - almost as many as my average reviews :) - she told me she'd have the car pulled out front in '5-10 minutes'. After about 12 minutes, some other employees appeared behind the counter, and I thought, 'Oh good - car's here', only to realize the it was then that they were going to GET the car. In total, I waited almost 25 minutes. When some guy pulled up finally, he left it right on the pedestrian crosswalk! I know it was late and there weren't many people left, but of all places, why in the middle of the Ped X???? I half jokingly said, "Way to go, parking where people are crossing", and he turned on me, saying he's been there since x o'clock! In a reflective mode, I fault myself for not being more sensitive toward the plight of working men and women. But my flight had been delayed and I just finished having a 'tempest' with my wife over something else, and the last time I looked, I am human too. I don't want to suggest it's some kind of master-slave relationships with service providers, or "the customer is always right", but I firmly believe that every customer-facing employee should pass basic customer service 101 before they're released into the colisseum to face us lions-customers! When finally I was ready to drive off, another agent who was behind the counter was just coming out to leave, and I had to tell him my frustration over the long wait, the mis-characterization of how long it was going to be, and the rudeness of the guy who brought the car. Even if he was cussing me out from his heart, I give him credit for being the first person to apologize, which I said I accepted. I did not, however, promise him that this Yelp review will be 5 stars, and perhaps he doesn't care, since this is a review on Budget - not Avis, even though they're the same company ... This location is combined with Avis but better prices through Budget. This is nota major metropolitan area and people need to know what to expect. When a flight lands everyone rushes to the rental car area. So patience is needed. My secret is to go directly to counter before getting luggage. Staff was amazingly helpful. In fact, I dropped my AMEX card after filing up (it is a clear card which I hate!) and they called me before I boarded my flight to return it to me. They sent an employee down to gate area. Car was dirty. Something sticky on emergency brake, something spilled down door. Old french fries and change between seats. Car smelled like smoke.
