I had a great experience here, yes it was busy and the line was long, which is expected at an airport location. But the attendant at the desk was so nice and pleasant, he really reminded me what great customer service looks like. He's so good corporate should have him give classes on customer service. Arrived around 6:30 am after taking the Air Train from JFK Terminal 7. One other customer at the counter. I was greeted and had a good experience with my rental agent. They didn't have my full size car so they gave me a midsize SUV which turned out to work better since it rained and there was lots of floodwater on day 1 of my trip and I was able to drive through it with no problems. read more

Just don't go here. We were in line for 2 hours. One person at the register, the water stations don't work, trash on the floors. This place is just sad. We had to cancel when we got the car with a check engine light and the navigation system wouldn't connect to our phone. We didn't leave the lot and they we're trying to charge us for cancelling. Went next door to Alamo and we're in and out under 10 minutes and the rate was lower then what Budget was charging. Pro tip: You don't have to pay for your reservation if you don't show up. Do yourself a favor, get out of the line and walk next door. Unless you want to experience what purgatory feels like, you can wait for hours and then receive an unsafe vehicle that is dirty. read more

We were given a car that had not been cleaned and stunk of weed and cigarette smoke with ash and resin viewable in the drivers seat. When we brought it to their attention, they didn't care nor did they offer a solution. We returned it the following day bec of tire pressure issues. I'm surprised no one went postal on these indifferent employees. Customer service was zero skills. I cancelled the reservation, spent $100 on an uber to my location and have an enterprise rental appt. Budget will never get a nickel of my business again. Beware Scam!!!! Budget rental car Federal Circle JFK Airport. Worst rental car experience ever. I picked up the rental and was at first very pleased that the car was big enough to hold all of my family's luggage comfortably.... but regrettably I failed to check how much gas was in the tank until after I had already passed the Budget exit gate and was driving out near the Airport. There was only between a half and three quarters of a tank of gas in the car, b ut of course the paperwork stated that the tank was supposed to have been full. Rather than turn around and make a big deal of it, I decided to let it go and just return the car full and take the hit. Big mistake. After a two week vacation, I stopped at an Exxon and put $54 worth of gas in to fill the tank completely, which was about $7 over the amount that the pump had first automatically shut off at. I forced the extra amount in to be sure, and then drove straight to the car returns. When I got to Budget car return at Federal Circle there was about 15 cars being returned with only 1 worker outside who wasn't even checking in any of those cars. She was just walking around. She told me to just leave the keys in the car and go. I did as I was told. Another Big misake! Low and behold I get my credit card bill and I was charged $250 extra for not filing the tank. TOTAL SCAM! I called to complain and was told to simply take a screenshot of my credit card statement charge from Exxon and email it to them. I did as instructed, and showed proof of the $54 charge from Exxon on the day of the return, but my claim was denied. Budget later said that I hadn't proved I actually purchased gas with the $54 statement charge. They scammed me twice and must be doing it to people all the time. I had an extremely frustrating and unacceptable experience with Budget Rental Car, and I strongly caution others before renting from this location. Arrived at 11:30 AM, wasn't helped until 1:15 PM, and didn't actually receive my car until around 2:00 PM. Despite being told multiple times that my rental time would "automatically adjust" to when I drove off the lot, I was later charged an extra $162, including an additional hour. Budget is claiming my rental started at 1:15 PM, even though the vehicle wasn't ready or given to me until after 2:00 PM. Luckily I took photos to protect myself and am now being asked to send documents instead of them reviewing their own records. Unacceptable delays, poor customer service, and incorrect billing. This was hands down one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. The woman working the counter was incredibly rude -- not just to me, but to every customer she interacted with. She had a nasty attitude from the second we walked up, snapping at people, rolling her eyes, and making the entire process as miserable as possible. She clearly didn't want to help anyone. This review is for Budget Rent a Car at JFK airport (Federal Circle, Jamaica, NY). Employees at this location were downright hostile to customers, the line was very long, and even though I made a reservation, it took several hours to be assigned a car. Then, I had to pass on multiple cars due to body damage, punctured tire, flat EV battery. Finally, I settled on a car that had not been cleaned since the last rental. Employees didn't seem to care at all... they had a "take it or leave it" attitude. And after waiting for hours, I just wanted to get on the road. To add insult to injury, MONTHS after I returned the car, Budget emailed me claiming that the car was dirty and had several scratches, so I would be charged several hundred dollars. (This was AFTER I spoke with a Budget employee when I returned the car; he did a quick check and assured me everything was OK.) After reading multiple similar reviews on various websites, it's clear to me that Avis Budget is running a systemwide scam to defraud their customers. It just makes no sense to me. How a business can operate this way when people book reservations and make plans for their day only to be told we're going to have to wait for hours. 4/21/23: PLEASE believe the negative reviews about the long waits and this place being short staffed because it's true!!! Go into it knowing that you will HAVE TO deal with it if you rent a vehicle here. After we landed at JFK, we went online and made the reservation. We walked into the location & the line was wrapped around with so many people & almost out the door. I asked my boyfriend at that moment if he wanted to cancel and go elsewhere, but he didn't want to. He waited in the line & I entertained myself on Facebook for about an hour while he stood there and finally made it to the desk. There were ONLY 3 people working the desk. It was chaotic!!! Even after some people got through the registration process, they still had to wait quite some time for a vehicle. Luckily, after my boyfriend waited an Hr to make it to registration, we only had to wait an additional 15-20 min to get a vehicle. We got to the vehicle and took video and pictures of the damage before we took off. It was a cute Hyundai Sonata, fully loaded. There was damage and it wasn't clean, BUT at least we had a vehicle and could finally leave. I don't know what our experience will be when we drop it off tomorrow, but the initial experience definitely could use some work. They need more staff and a better process in place to be more efficient at check in. read more

I rented a car from Budget at JFK airport on October 3. I had a reservation. Terrible experience 1. Picking up the car took over an hour due to lack of staff at the facility. 2. The car had 50k miles on it. The exterior of the car was filthy. There was body and glass damage that I (not Budget) noticed and documented. 3. I purchased the Easy Pass option for the highway toll. I was told by the agent it was $27 for the rental. When I finally got the receipt, I learned that the charge was $27 per day. The desk agent said it was for the entire rental, not a daily charge. When I challenged this on the phone, Budget apologized for the mistake and gave me a 30% discount, not the refund I deserved. read more

Warning about renting a car here if you fly into JFK: the wait is atrocious. I had to wait 3 hours for a vehicle and ended up with a huge Dodge Ram because they had nothing else available (the perfect car for driving around NYC LOL). A couple of employees were super disrespectful and making fun of customers that had just left. The main problem seems to be that there are a lot of international travelers who try to rent from here, and they take time to process. They need to have a better method of addressing this issue, as it is not fair to domestic travelers who should be in and out in 5 minutes. read more

This location is awful. I waited an hour as a Fastbreak customer and only got a car by accepting it "as is, unserviced and uncleaned". It was the only way to get out of that office where about 50-80 people were crowded in trying to get a car or to cancel a reservation because they had waited over an hour and still hadn't gotten a car. I want to point out that the counter staff was doing everything they could but there were no cars ready they could give anyone. They have a sign out front that says "Cars Available" but that's BS; they should be sued for false advertising. Booked and payed for a car in January which we picked up at Budget JFK at July 12th. We had to wait for over 5 hours for a car because of a fleet failure. I had a reservation for 10:30 pm and when I arrived, i found their doors locked and I was directed to Avis (along with 30 other customers), despite their closing time listed as 11:30 pm and receiving an email/text from Budget that I could go directly to my car and drive away. We waited from 10:45 pm to 1:00 am, with the Avis employee stating that we would need to wait until a Budget employee comes and helps us. DO NOT RENT FROM BUDGET AT JFK!!!! The price savings are not worth it. After arriving at the airport location for a pre-paid and confirmed reservation at 8.30pm on a mid week evening, we were dismissed by the representative with a brusk we are 'sold out' of cars. There was no clear explanation, or consideration of impact but a lacksidaisical, wait for cars which might or might not arrive. There was a room full of people including families with children and toddlers who were just as in the dark as to what was happening given the lack of information or engagement from the desk team (one person). Not something to be expected from a large outfit like Budget. As the evening wore on, it was clear that it was not a case of not having vehicles available, or being sold out but a Budget team at JFK refusing to manage the circumstances professionally. There were indeed larger class vehicles available but only if customers were willing to pay additional charges circa 70 - 100 dollars a day additional. When vehicles did slowly start to become available 2-3hrs later circa 10.30pm, the Budget team were playing their own version of hunger games, randomly shouting names (incorrectly and offensively in some instances), laughing and joking amongst themselves, talking to multiple people and then not completing one booking before moving on, leaving people confused and bewildered and honesty confusing people deliberately with random questions/ comments; absolutely awful. Bear in mind most people here are coming off long flights/ different time zones and it was absolutely shocking to see the behaviour of staff at this location. Forced to wait over 2.5hrs hours just to pick up our reserved vehicle, which was not even clear would happen from the desk team. The line was disorganized, the staff seemed overwhelmed / disinterested and there was no clear communication or urgency to assist the long queue of customers or recognition of the context of travelling visitors just arrived to the US. It's unacceptable for a major car rental company to operate like this, especially at one of the busiest airports in the world. Waiting for hours after a long flight is not only inconvenient, it shows a serious lack of respect for customers' time / safety when late at night. We for example had a 6 hr journey ahead which should have commenced between 8.30 - 9pm but did not till closer to 11.30pm by the time we left JFK. Vehicle was damaged/ scratched, not cleaned inside and needed servicing. Had to have it swapped two days later due to lack of power. We hope Budget takes this feedback seriously and improves the service at JFK. I will NEVER use BUDGET again and advise all others to avoid this company and location - it is not worth the saving - go to Hertz/ Alamo. To make matters worse, the team at the service counter was unwelcoming and brash when asked simple questions. This location appears to be completely mismanaged, whether due to incompetence, poor staffing, lack of proper systems, or all of the above. Given that this Budget branch is located in one of the busiest airports in the world, you'd expect a much higher standard of service. I had a confirmed reservation with Budget Rent a Car for December 25th, 2024, for a week-long rental. I showed up, and they had no cars available--none. The front desk didn't seem to care at all and basically left me to figure it out on my own. I had to pay for a taxi to the other side of the island at my own expense and was told I'd have to do the same thing back to the airport whenever they finally had a car available. They said they'd call me when one was ready--but they never called. This was hands down one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had.
