I had an appointment scheduled today for all locks to be changed at my rental property. Tom contacted me and let me know that he was about 20 minutes out, which I appreciated. He shows up, I showed him the locks I needed changing and he got to work. He noticed a couple of the striker plates had been removed from the front door and master bedroom, he replaced them without even asking if I wanted it done. Really thought that was above and beyond, he was saying that they keep people from being able to kick your door in. In addition, he changed the batteries in the front door lock and put in a new code. I requested four spare keys and he made them on site. Great job, extremely thorough, and appreciated the extra attention to detail. Early April, my house will be 25 years old next week, and the security gate and side door security door to my garage are about 12 years old, maybe older. The duplicate keys to my locks that I gave my exterminator are gone. He retired and could not find them to return them, so I called the locksmith that appeared in my Internet search. The best part was that when I called him around 11 AM, he told me he would be there around Noon, same day. And he was! And by the time he dismantled and cleaned my locks, recalibrated them, and made me 3 keys, it was 12:15 when he finished, AND he was able to place two spacer receivers over the metal frame to my security gate so that the closing latch plunger, like you see on every door in your house has, that helped realign the gate so that now worked, too. Two recalibrated locks, re-keyed, and 3 new keys and he was all done. How can I beat 1 hour, 15 minutes from the time of my call and my job is done? Worth the price, which I'm not saying, because every job is different. But as I had no complications, he was easy to work with and I recommend him highly. I had some locks replaced by Tom @ Budget Lock and Key and although he was quick, something just didn't seem right. Halfway through the job, he asked me for one of my old keys. He didn't tell me why he wanted the key and didn't make it clear that he intend on keeping it. When he left, neither the old tumblers nor the old key were left behind. He should have asked me for permission to take my key and tumblers. Once he left, I texted and asked him several times why he took the key, he couldn't give me an answer. Instead he wanted to know why I wanted it and offered to mail it. Here's some advice - just be honest and straightforward. If you choose not to be, it's gonna look questionable. ****** You still refuse to say why you took my key. You weren't throwing it away so that I didn't "confuse the old key with the new key" otherwise why wouldn't you ask for all the keys to that lock? And why didn't you offer that lame excuse when I asked you twice why you took my key? Excuses. And shady. read more
