Cars are good. The attention is not so cool, due they have to deal with tourists around the world. They need to be patient. Cars need to have a phone holder, the apps onboard are incompatible with some phones. read more

Horrible experience. I reserved a car for 3pm pickup. When I arrived via Uber at 3:10pm, they informed me that they did not have a call available for my reservation. Felt like I was in the Seinfeld episode as I questioned them about what was the point of a reservation if it doesn't actually guarantee a car will be available. This is a perennial issue at this office & across the entire AVIS/BUDGET network. Read the reviews. This has been going on for years. Reflects their commitment to service. Very poor management. They have a record of all the reservations & could have planned for the incoming congestion. Everyone waiting here has a reservation with more arriving as I waited. My first time using AVIS/BUDGET. This is their "ripoff" location... these fools tried to charge me over $400 for a 2 day economy car rental. They scheme at this location. STAY AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION!!! I rented a car with this company a month ago and the car was given to me without the registration card in the glove compartment. We were pulled over and given a ticket due to this matter. Upon returning the rental I was told everything would be taken care of and that I should not worry as the ticket would be paid on time (8/30/2019) and in full. A few weeks later I receive a court notice because they had still not paid the ticket. Once again, I was told not to worry and that it would be paid by the date mentioned on the notice (9/16/2019). Fast forward to present day, the ticket has still not been paid and I now have a suspended license and possibly a warrant thanks to the carelessness of this company and its poor customer service. At first the manager had assured me the ticket would be taken care of, but once he spoke to his boss his attitude changed completely. I mentioned tirelessly how I was told everything would be taken care of on the day that I had returned the car and he did nothing to comply to this. Customer service also mentioned how the location was to be responsible for this ticket but he paid it no mind and mentioned how I should have gone to court instead (HA!) Almost a month later and I'm still waiting for this issue to be resolved. Here's what happened (caused this poor rating): We rented 2 minivans for 14 people to be picked up at noon. Our minds changed and decided to leave early, so we called and asked if we could pick up the vans around 9am. We understand this is subject to availability since this was a change within our part. The person there said he'll call us back and see what he can do. Waited for an hour and still no call. So we called back. He said once again he will call us back in a couple of mins. Nothing, so we called back again (after 30mins). He once again said he will call us back. By this time, it's already 11:15am. He finally calls back and said they are available and we we went there to pick up the vans. When we arrived, no one was in the office. We waited about 10mins and finally decided to look around outside where the people were. He was outside and called him in. No Hi or Hello. Asked if my wife is the person he has been talking to in which she said yes. He started processing our rentals. By this time it's almost noon, which is our original pick up time. He tells us that we have to drive to another location (Englewood) to pick up the two vans! What choice do we have? This location was 30minutes away (he said it was 10minutes)!!!! He then continued and suggested we should just get the chevy instead of the minivan. We asked if it's the same size, and he said yes. So we said okay, trusting his suggestion. We are after all renting two minivans for 14 people. He gave us a car to drive to Englewood, which we did. Arrived at Englewood...they were definitely nicer than the person in North Bergen! I mean, we did just got back from the worst customer experience ever! So he gave us the rentals and looking around there was no minivan at sight at all! Meaning there was no minivan set aside for us at all! Same observation at North Bergen. Showed us the pathfinder and chevy - THEY WERE DIRTY! Side note: we also added a child safety car seat (this was filthy!). This is first time we rent a car seat so not sure what's your policy here. Anyway, looked at both SUVs luggage space, YIP! it was not gonna fit! But we had no choice but to take it! It was almost 2pm already! I have rented Budget cars before. I can just forget the rudeness but we hope we get what we rented/paid for. It was so unfair that no vans were available for the time we requested. Not only we didn't get what we paid for, but also didn't even get an apology from him. We are from California and had no choice but to abide to what he suggests since we do need the cars. While YELP shows this location as a Budget Rent A Car location, it is wise to point out that Avis and Budget appear to be ONE now for they operate out of the same depot. If this address happens to be the ENTERPRISE location two doors down, I apologize for this venomous post and at your request, I will delete it if it is in any way damaging to your business. AVIS - TOO BIG TO GIVE A DAMN - PART ONE AVIS staff are, for the best part - clueless. Here's why. Can you rent an AVIS car to use at the Department of Motor Vehicles to do your driving test? Mazhar Malik, Rob (at customer service), George (on their toll free reservation number) all say YES. An unnamed supervisor with a heavy accent, Levi (who says he is in San Diego) and (apparently - his supervisor) Gabriel say NO - it is NOT company policy. So - what is it? Yes or No. AVIS does not know. This started this morning when I went to collect an AVIS car accompanied by the person in whose name the reservation was confirmed. Of course, he was with me, and of course, he has a valid NJ Drivers License, unlike myself. We rented the car at - AVIS RENT A CAR SYSTEM LLC 501 JOHN F. KENNEDY BLVD. NORTH BERGEN, NJ 07047 (201) 223-5936 Manager - Mazhar Malik The rental agreement was prepared in the name of the renter and not mine but my name was added as an additional driver. Mazhar Malik was very clear about pointing out that I was not permitted to drive the car TO the DMV - but, I could drive it back once I had a valid license. We arrived at Edison, NJ which is the only location that I could get an appointment at before my temp license expires. Lined up and waited. Have to add here that I really think that one of the questions on an application form for employment at the DMV is "Can you be rude. Not JUST rude but VERY rude - and can you add to that a hell of an attitude?" That aside, my officer (if that is the correct term), a woman, came to my car. I attempted to get out or at least open the door to permit her easy access. MISTAKE - SHOW no courtesy at the DMV, ever. Handed her my forms. She reviewed them and told me that I had to be on the rental agreement. I showed her where I was listed on the rental agreement. Then she wanted the Valid Registration. I looked in the glove compartment (for that is where Mazhar Malik said all of the paperwork for the car was stored - and we had checked before leaving the depot and yes, there was a pile of paper there) and could not find anything that resembled a Valid Registration - or a registration of any type. Then she asked for the Insurance Card which I did find and handed to her - dated 2014. Today is Monday, February 26, 2018. The Insurance Card has expired - 3-years ago. That is a violation of driving a vehicle in New Jersey. Sorry she says, I cannot even test you. You do not have the appropriate paperwork to even start the test. Go and make another appointment for another time and get your act together. I nearly exploded. Drove to an empty parking space and called AVIS. That is when I had the pleasure of talking with Rob who assured me that there was no problem renting an AVIS car to do a drivers test. I was so annoyed at the time and money that I had lost that I asked him HOW AVIS would reimburse me - and he offered to reduce my bill by $20. I asked to speak to a supervisor - repeated the story of all that had happened today to date and she said that because I (get this one) had violated company policy, by renting an AVIS car to do my drivers test in, she was not prepared to reimburse me anything. Read back - Mazhar Malik had approved the rental and knew where we were headed to. I returned to the depot on JFK Blvd. Walked in and asked Mazhar Malik if it was company policy to rent AVIS cars for the sole purpose of taking a drivers test. His answer - YES. Then I asked him where the Valid Registration was in the papers that I gave him - and he said, "We keep that in the office." Then I asked him why the Insurance Card was dated 2014 and not up to date and his response was "I told you you were going to have problems with the DMV." And after a short exchange of words, he walked out from behind the counter, past me, and out of the office (presumably to check if the car was returned in good condition). I came home. Once again, I called AVIS - got through and asked the three main questions. 1.) Can I rent a car from AVIS to do my drivers test - the answer was YES. 2.) Where is the Valid Registration located in the car - the answer was in the glove compartment. 3.) Is an Insurance Card supposed to be updated before cars are rented out - the answer was YES. Well, since we have a conflicting response once again from AVIS Car Rental, I asked for a supervisor and that's when I got Levi. Repeated the story again from the start and Levi put me on hold for a short while and came back and offered me a 50% discount on the car rental. That amount would be $30. read more

At 10:40pm I scheduled & paid for a reservation for a 8am pick up, the next day. 10 Minutes after I reserved, I decided to cancel said reservation & was charged a $25 cancellation fee!!!! Seriously Budget, your freagin store is closed & you still charge a $25 fee for cancelling a reservation within 10 minutes of paying for it??!! I will never rent a car from these crooks!!! read more

If you have absolutely no alternative, then try this place, but professional, it ain't. The office is a badly converted storefront, the staff seems never to have run a rental business before, and the renters seemed to be even more clueless than the staff. Worse, the car I rented was given to me sticky with soda residue, a sour milk smell, and cup holders full of popcorn and dirty tissues. There is no drop box, so when the office was CLOSED at 9AM on a MONDAY MORNING, I had to leave the car unlocked with the key inside in the dinky parking lot. Of course, I received a call from someone asking me to hold on while they went to check the car and see if the door was unlocked... sigh, never again, even in an emergency. read more

This is one of the worst places to rent a car. I had my car return at 1pm on sunday. I was there at the location by 12.50pm and the guy refused to take the car back and locked the door and left it front of me. Apparently according to his watch its 1.05pm. HORRIBLE!!!!! it was my daughters party and i rented a car via online with my debit card and the money was taken out. I go to pick up the car and an EXTREMELY rude person tells me that I need a credit card. I tell him that the money was already taken out and that I do not have a credit card. They said that there was nothing they can do. I asked them to return my money and they said no. While speaking to them, he tells me that he is busy with a customer as if i wasn't a customer. I reserved a 12 passenger Ford Transit Van a month BEFORE my trip. The night before my trip, I got a phone call from Muhammad at the rental car place saying they wouldn't have my van at 8am (the scheduled time) but they would have it at 3pm. **The van was reserved for a four day cross country trip from North Bergen, NJ to Oregon. We had a very tight schedule--depart NJ with van at 8am on Thursday and arrive in OR at 12pm on Sunday.** Muhammad called 30 minutes before the office closed so he directed me to call customer service to see if we could secure a van. My husband and I collectively spent THREE HOURS on the phone with a variety of people including Chantal, Albert, Josh, Nadia, Mark, Monique, Lee, and Mariah. This wasn't even everyone we talked to, we just got tired of writing down names. No one helped at all, some even hung up on us, most just kept transferring us to other agents, and putting us on hold. It was absolutely the worst customer service experience in my life. From talking to all of these agents, we found out that there were additional 12 passenger vans in other cities very nearby, but for some reason (and no one knew why), the locations would not lend the van without charging US an extra $200. Thanks a lot, Budget, it sure makes sense to charge your customer an extra $200 to get the car they reserved even though they will have to go to another location just because the location it was originally reserved from didn't have it in the first place. Who makes these decisions?? On the day of the trip, we were told to call Carl (who seemed to be the only possible person to help us). Once we talked to him, he agreed to give us a small discount ($100 off of the $1300 total). While that was appreciated, he was rather rude to us and told us "not to scream at him." (A terse tone of voice is not the same as screaming.) Overall, the main reason this experience was so upsetting was because we reserved the van a month ahead of time, simply to ensure that it would be there-- at the location and time we reserved it for. The customer service by both the people in the office and on the phone was just awful since they all said nobody could get us a van. Someone in this company needs to get their fleet managers to actually manage the fleet of cars so they will be in the proper place for the people who paid for it. We did finally get the van we reserved at 4pm--8 hours after our scheduled time. This delay caused us to have to drive through the night without sleeping in order to stay on schedule. We still returned the car on time (because no one offered to give us extra time even though they took away most of the first day). I will never use Budget again and I will discourage anyone I know to use them. For a company whose main mission is to serve the customers, they are not doing a very good job at it. read more

It took 15 minutes by bus from the Port Authority to get to this office. The staff was very friendly and helpful and I drove away in a great car in just a few minutes for an excellent rate. The return was quick and easy and cost exactly what I had booked. There is a bus stop across the street back to the Port Authority and buses every few minutes even on Sunday morning. read more

This place is absolutely awful and I recommend you stay away. My wife and I rented an SUV from this place and confirmed pick up the day before. When we got there in the afternoon, there were no cars available at all.. There were three other patrons waiting to get their cars as well and after complaining about the delay, I found out those folks had been waiting there since morning (3+ hours). I asked the person working there (I believe his name was Malic) when the cars would arrive, and his answer was he did not know. That did not bother me as much as the fact that he did absolutely nothing to help the situation. All he said is he sent an email in the morning. There was zero follow-up, zero calls being made, he literally did nothing. Basically, the customer service was horrific. Because we had to be somewhere, I asked him to give me his manager's number, which he did, but he mentioned that his manager was out... to me that shouldn't be an excuse to do nothing - if I had people sitting around upset that their cars weren't in, I would be making some effort to help the situation. Malic couldn't have cared less. Anyway, I called his manager and got the manager's voicemail, but in the voicemail, it had his boss' number so I called him, where I left a voicemail. I followed up 2 more times within an hour because I was determined to get the car so we could make it to our destination in time. At this point, we had been waiting at least 2 hours. Finally I got the boss' boss, and that person told me he was able to get in touch with another budget facility to have cars sent over, and that he would get in touch with Malic and let him know. When my wife and I re-entered the budget, Malic was standing their proudly declaring that the cars were coming over, and no joke, he was making it sound like he was the one feverishly calling around and escalating to get this done. Trust me, this guy did absolutely nothing to help the situation - he was lazy and uninterested in helping. Later on when I got in touch with Malic's manager to complain, of course they did nothing, and I had hoped they would have provided some cost relief given that the new car they had sent over was a little more expensive than the one we had reserved and of course charged us for the increase, but nope, no credit/refund. These guys are snakes, lazy, and if you rent from here, you will absolutely regret the decision. Since this experience, I only stick with Enterprise (little more expensive, but best customer service and you will never go thru what we went thru with this company). read more
