Took over 20 minutes to pick up my car despite having Fastbreak. 3 people at counter and only 2 actually working. Car was new but overpriced for a base camry at $100/day plus fees. Sixt will sell you a BMW for less. On top of that, I was blatantly lied to about fuel purchase options. The clerk told me at pickup that I can opt for their refueling service for $4.29 a gallon rather than needing to do it myself. I expressed concern that there may be hidden costs, and she said "no, this is a new service, it's really just $4.29 a gallon." The car needed 2.5 gallons upon dropoff, and I expected to be charged $10-$15. Instead, I was charged $66.70 for a variety of things: 11.11% Concession Recovery Fee $6.16 FUEL PURCH OPT $55.40 VEH LICENSE RECOUP 2.00/DY $4.00 CUSTOMER FACILITY CHG 9.00/D $18.00 3.50 3.50 CALIFORNIA TOURI $4.88 Your Total Charges: $66.70 These line items don't even add up to $66.70. I have no idea how they reached that total, and it makes no sense why I'm being charged additional fees when the initial reservation was supposed to include all the fees. After this experience I will never, ever give them or Avis my business at ANY airport. First time in ages renting from anyone but Sixt or Turo, and I deeply regret it. I've hand nothing but a positive experience with the Budget staff and the clean cars. When I arrive my car is ready to go. Sometimes I get the unexpected surprise of an upgraded car. Plus, just walking out the door from baggage claim to find my rental is so easy too. Now returning the car is just as easy. You drive up, a Budget representative is their waiting. Before you even leave our rental car to walk into the terminal, they're telling me your receipt will be emailed to you and have a nice day! I totally like the fact I'm not required to go the counter inside wait in line to drop off my keys. We just walk straight to baggage drop off, ticket counter and or straight to TSA checkpoint (if we are traveling light). Talking about peace of mind. We then paid for transportation (almost $60 in Ubers roundtrip) to the correct location, only to be told there were no vehicles available and that it would be an approx 2 additional hours before one MIGHT be ready. We were travelling with two children under the age of 2 and ultimately spent over 3 almost 4 hours attempting to obtain a vehicle. We were advised we would receive a call when a vehicle became available around 2pm. No call was received until approximately 3:15pm. Due to the uncertainy and lack of communication, we had no other choice but to secure a rental with another company in order to continue our trip, resulting in an additional cost of roughly $500. And according to Budget, because our parameters changed with our new reservation (parameters being a different car class), which we had no other option and took whatever vehicle that was available. If I could leave zero stars I would. One person behind the desk for 50+ people on a Saturday afternoon. After waiting 20 mins, we had only moved a foot. I live in the area, so had only rented because I wanted to test drive an EV for the weekend, but could not waste the 2 hours it was going to take in that line. I tried calling to cancel and was told it would be a cancellation fee of $150 (my entire rental cost was only $125!!) and had to speak to a supervisor to be able to get a full refund. I have FastBreak, but there was no line or signage for that. They then told me that they were trying to figure out a way to get me into a car because I wouldn't have one otherwise, and I said no, I have a car (my personal one that I had just planned on leaving at the airport that weekend) and the supervisor took that to mean that THAT was the true reason that I was trying to cancel (assuming he believed that I got a rental car with a different company). I told him if he was able to contact the staff and get me the keys to an EV, I would gladly take it but I couldn't wait for 2 hours in line. He placed me on hold and after attempting to contact staff, he finally acquiesced and let me cancel. Do not EVER rent from budget at PSP. I prepaid a rental for an Mustang Mach E (or similar). The Palm Springs Airport Budget location gave me a lower category Tesla 3 with degraded batteries, which I returned because it had a 50 mile range which then required a full charge. I was given a Hyundai Ioniq in exchange, and then was charged for the 'upgrade' (which was what they had available) with no compensation for the time and effort I spent on returning a car in poor condition. I rented a car for the day to drive up to LA. Check out for car was 8am, scheduled to return same day by 1130pm. Car given to me had not been washed and there were wrappers in the console, which told me this car had not been cleaned. As I left I noted the dashboard said I had 191 miles left. When I returned to Palm Springs, I filled up and noted that now it said there was 257 miles left. At that point I knew the tank was not fully filled either when I picked it up. I returned car to the airport return lot at 9pm and parked it in the appropriate lane for Budget. I locked the car and took the keys to the terminal and asked the Budget representative if he could check me back in. He told me to toss the keys into the return keys box. I thought that was it but a few days later I got an email message saying that I was charged another 24.71 for returning the car late! I called immediately to let them know and was told it would take up to a week to investigate, resolve and refund. A week goes by and nothing. I called my credit card company to dispute and miracle of miracles a few hours later I get a message from my credit card company that the issue was settled and refund within 2 days. The car I rented was fine, but the service provided was among the worst I have ever had. You gave me a dirty car that wasn't topped off and then couldn't even keep track of it when it was returned well within my rented timeframe. And then, when this was pointed out to a Budget representative I was not helped to correct. I just wonder how many other people they charge bogus fees like this hoping or assuming they will not challenge. **keep in mind, this is my first time renting a car.** If I could give 0 stars I would. Wow. An insane waste of time and unforgiving customer service from the representatives at Budget Car Rental in Palm Springs. I had called the day prior asking about pushing our drop off later due to our flight being delayed. The lady on the other end said "Sure! No problem at all!". She sounded so non-chalant about it on the phone and didn't ask for my name or reservation number or rental agreement number and It already took 5 minutes to actually start talking to a real person so I just hung up after she said it was alright. Also, I felt reassured due to the automated voice system which I noticed said "If your flight is delayed, we understand and will not charge you" Which is of course, is not true. Come to my surprise I have an extra day charge, an extra day of an additional driver charge, AND a 20 dollar late fee?!?! It all added up to 63 USD and our car itself was only supposed to be about 150 USD - so it was nearly a third of the price on-top of the price we had initially agreed to. After four phone calls that lasted approx. 30 - 45 minutes each over the span of a week, Budget did not give me a refund and essentially blamed ME for somebody not getting the proper information from me when i called initially and not warning me about late fees and such. Had I known about these late fees - I would have returned the car earlier, but the automated message when you call saying it's okay if your flight is delayed is entirely misleading! When i finally reached a supervisor on my fourth phone call, he informed me that apparently this policy only applies to PICK-UP and not DROP-OFF... which should be specified. I also informed him that If he doesn't want calls like this happening so often, he should probably let his employees know that when someone informs them that the car will be dropped off late, you don't just say "No problem!" and not ask for their reservation number, you have to get their information and properly document it. Both representatives I talked to after the fact told me that me calling saying I was dropping off the car late the day prior had "not be notated" on their system... but whose fault is that? I said I could give them all the proof they wanted - the flight delay emails, the phone call to them on the Saturday in my call log, they didn't care. I will never ever be booking with Budget car rental again and anyone I know that even thinks about booking with them I will advise them not to for as long as I live. read more

I had a reservation for a rental car at the Eugene Road location in Palm Springs. I had paid in advance. A couple of hours before I was to pick up my car, I received a call from Budget to tell me they had no cars. They further stated that they had no way to refund my prepayment and so I would have to go on line and wait on hold for a long period of time in order to get back the money they had taken from me for my prepayment. What is worse.... in accordance with Budget policies, had I cancelled so close to the pick up time, I would have forfeited my prepayment. But THEY cancel just two hours before pick up time and suffer no penalty whatsoever. Outrageous. This exact same thing happened to me with Enterprise Rent A Car (part of the Budget/Enterprise family) about two years ago. I brought it right back and was given a jeep, which did not fit our luggage so I went back inside and a very rude lady said I would have to pay more for a larger SUV. WTF? Your return process - car was returned and man with computer said all set email had been sent, didn't get it. Three days later I got a text stating that I was there days late returning it. The person apparently didn't check it in correctly so it looked as if I still had it. I also had 3 items that got forgotten and told them as soon as I got to the airport and yet a month later they claim nothing was found. Sad that there are untrusting and incompetent people that work there. First didn't do the job correctly and then to take things that don't belong to them. I ended up driving back to see if someone can help me. Well it was closed and had to go to Avis. Had to wait a long line but when I Findlay got there. They informed me they couldn't check the cars anymore. For me to make a claim online. I told them it's for work and I really needed it. I even said the car is there in front where i dropped it off this morning. The worker seemed annoyed and did not help me. This whole company (Avis and Budget) is just awful--not the local workers, so much. I've rented a car for almost 2 months with multiple visits to the locations and phone calls with customer support who are rude, hang up on you, say they have extended your car and then didn't--3 times, and demands to return cars even when you have receipts that you have paid for them and credit card charges on my charge card, and return dates clearly stated on those receipts. Workers not following protocol that jeopardize my rental, meetings, and planned travel. Thousands of dollars of billing time lost over the past week dealing with this mess. The car is not even in my correct name. Customer service says they will attach it to my loyalty number and credit card on file, and then it's not done. Wrong credit cards charged. Check in was horrible and over an hour, car reserved not available and put me into a lower car at the same price, one tire had low tire pressure and I had to fill up with air multiple times in a 48 hour period, then after return charged $250 for excessive dirt on a mat. I ended up cancelling and luckily got a ride from someone and was almost late for a 5:00 event even though I landed at 1:25. It looks like this is not the first time. I read lots of reviews that made me concerned renting from this location. But pick up was quick and easy. They had my vehicle ready. It was clean it was gassed and ready to go. I was concerned the Standard SUV might not fit our bags and golf clubs. The representative, Andrew (I think), said not a problem. I Can switch you to a vehicle that will fit the bags and clubs if needed for no extra charge just let me know. Returning the vehicle was easy as well. Even at 5am. I hope you get some better reviews. I'm not sure why I didn't learn this the last time we came to the Palm Springs airport and tried to rent a car from budget. We set everything up online way in advance. The first time we came here last January we waited in line for literally four hours. One or two people behind the desk depending on which hour it was. It was a Saturday, but there should be absolutely no excuse for this. Every single other rental car company counter moved along perfectly fine. I ended up getting a credit for two days from budget after writing to complain about the horrendous situation last January. For whatever reason, my partner rented from them again this trip and here we are again in January on a Saturday afternoon, waiting and waiting. Now we will miss our dinner reservation on top of everything else. There are two people working behind the counter and so far we've waited 45 minutes and we're still not to the desk. This probably won't be a four hour wait this time but it's absolutely ridiculous. Do not Use budget rental car at the Palm Springs airport unless you absolutely have to and even then I would call an Uber! Absolutely so ridiculous and frustrating! The company told us to bring the defected Jeep that we rented back to them, but descend it to the Palm Springs location. The Jeep we rented has a death wobble. The front two tires are completely flat. They are supposed to be all terrain tires. The two in the back looked brand new if we drive over 37 mph the car goes into a death wobble. When we originally rented the vehicle, it was supposed to be a Volkswagen. But the people in Los Angeles told us this is what it is. We did not want to wait in another two hour line so we took the jeep not knowing that it had a death wobble. When we told the company about it, they told us to Palm Springs since it was the closest location. Because they were not willing to bring us a car that was safe, so we drove the death trap with two children inside of it out to Palm Springs were they told us they would not exchange the vehicle unless we waited in line for another two hours. They only had one worker at the front desk. So now we have to drive the machine on streets back to Joshua tree. And when we called the people for help, they told us on a recorded line that they know that we recorded, that they were not gonna help us. And if we have a blowout, we can use roadside assistance at our cost, and that there was nothing that they would do for us. They would rather see their customers die. Than to do what is right. They also double billed me and then overbilled me and it took a minimum of 20 hours on the phone to finally solve this. The customer service was terrible and I feel exhausted from all of this.After all wa solved, I received a registered letter (with typos??) informing me that the car was not returned and that I was liable for the cost. Renting this car at the Palm Springs airport on Sunday was one of my worst experiences in recent memory. I had a car reserved, but when we arrived, there was a long, long line at the Budget counter and only two agents working who did not appear to be in any particular hurry and seemed oblivious to the plight of those waiting in line. There were 20-30 people in front of me (and as many behind)...each customer was taking about 15 minutes, and the clerks kind of came and went. As I got closer, one of them was replaced by a younger guy who was at least twice as fast; I was still in line for a good two hours and had swollen ankles by the time I got there. The agent was polite, but they didn't have the car I had ordered...but by that time I would have taken anything.
