I signed up for their Fastbreak program while waiting in line and went downstairs to see if I could get a car that way. There were another 50 people in line there and ZERO cars available. The people in line were waiting for a car to be returned! I estimated I would be waiting 4 to 6 hours for a car and gave up. Landed late last night had a reservation for budget Rental car at sky harbor airport. Got a rental and a GPS however, when I went to turn the gps on, it immediately had no power. I then went to charge it and no charging plug in the bag. I was at the gate to have the guy scan my rental and told him the gps was not working and he said I can't help you you have to go back in the airport to talk to the guy at the rental counter. It was already 12:30 local time but I was still on NY time sour was 2:30 in the morning for me I was really tired, I didn't go back. Very upset and disappointed that this happened after my card was charged $827..00and 16.00 per day for a gps that does not work. I had to drive in the rain and dark of night using my sons cell phone to get to Queen Creek which is a long drive. Not happy and will not use budget again. read more

I picked a cadillac escalade and used Budgets "PayNow" and saved a few bucks. I did everything online, reserved the car and paid. My email confirmation said I rented a Jeep Wrangler.- I NEVER even looked at that vehicle. WTF. Long story short after calling Customer service 1 min after confirmation, they said I had to pay $50 to cancel the reservation or $922 to upgrade to a cadillac escalade. Run, don't walk from this Budget/Avis office. I rented a car while on vacation this spring. The Fastbreak program worked well enough, allowing me to skip the line and pick up my car in the garage. On the way to our VRBO rental 45 minutes away, I noticed an unsettling feeling in the front suspension/steering, and a tire vibration. When I got to our rental property, I walked around and inspected the tires (a difficult task in the dimly lit garage at Sky Harbor, and not something I'd expect to be my responsibility). Three tires were worn moderately, but the driver's front was worn into the wear indicator bars, and the outer shoulder was completely scrubbed off, worn to the belts. A tire in this condition requires IMMEDIATE replacement, and carries a high risk of failure- something Budget's staff should have seen if they were maintaining these vehicles at all. I called the customer service number (useless, it only connects you to someone in India) and then the emergency service number. I explained to the agent this was NOT an accident, not a flat, but that I was given an unsafe, defective vehicle- I would have had NO reason to call were it not for their negligence. I refused their suggestions that I put on the spare and drive on that (an incredibly stupid suggestion, since those are low-speed, limited use tires), the suggestion that I install the spare or have a tow truck driver do that so that I could waste a 1 1/2 hours driving (and God knows how long to get a replacement) to return to the airport for a replacement, or "to make it easier" (for whom?) that I take it to a tire shop (on a Sunday evening!) and buy a replacement that they promised they would reimburse me for. Riiiiiight. I insisted they bring a replacement vehicle to me, and they finally agreed. A tow truck arrived 3 hours later to tow this one, but had no replacement- the driver said when he was dispatched from the airport, he was told their would be another driver to carry that. He confided that this was the 3rd vehicle tow this week he'd seen from budget with a severely worn tire. Away went this 1st car, and then I waited...and waited...and waited...until nearly 2 am for the replacement vehicle. Vehicle 2 was fine, other than reeking of smoke. (Another rental last year from this outlet had the same issue, reeking of weed). All was well...until I got a letter several weeks later to inform me I was being charged for emergency towing since I did not opt for this extra cost coverage. I had been told this "might" happen when I called to demand a replacement vehicle, even though the need for the tow was ENTIRELY their fault. Despite disputing it, Budget charged my credit card,a nd I am now disputing this as fraudulent with my bank. I would suspect this is a pattern at this outlet; I was also charged for "fuel service" because they claimed I returned it with less than a full tank- despite a receipt for a fill up from a station 1/4 mile away and their own receipt showing it was returned full. This charge is also disputed with my CC. Other Budget/Avis outlets may be just fine- but this location at Sky Harbor is at best incompetent, and more likely, systemically dishonest. Avoid at all costs. read more

This branch store of Budget is absolutely criminal. DO NOT RENT A CAR HERE!!!! I am 60+ years old and have only done 2 bad reviews on Yelp in my life. This is #2. The facts: Prepaid $159.00 for a mid size car from Thursday thru Saturday. Only midsize car available was a jeep with a defective canvas top. Had to duct tape the top in the rain to keep the wind from howling inside the car (one side had already been duct taped). Told the woman at the "front desk" we needed car 1 extra day to Sunday and she said "no problem". Returned the car on Sunday around 2:00PM after filling it up with gas two blocks away. Suprise!! They were closed Sunday and the door was locked. There was a Budget employee in the lot that told us to put the keys in the lock box with the gas receipt "no problem". Then we got the bill for an extra $194.00 for one extra day on a car that leaked like a sieve. They're saying the gas tank was empty too! Repeated attempts to resolve after the fact to no avail. These people are completely dishonest and we will never rent from Budget again - much less this store. read more

Guy at the front desk is pretty condescending, and not at all welcoming. I've been renting from Avis for the past 2 years. When I got there and showed them my debit card (as I have done dozens of times), he asked me interrogatively if I knew the policy on using debit cards. It had never been a problem before, so I told him yes to which his response was to ask me to recite it for him. The tone he struck made it seem like I had to know it word for word, as if this was some how a nightmare 3rd grade classroom rule. He proceeded to let me know that he would run a credit check and then told me that I would not be able to rent a car if I didn't pass. Background: I never use credit cards because I don't believe in the them. I prefer cash, but that's never been a problem for Avis, hence, I have a friggin loyalty number. Long story short, I didn't pass, and he wouldn't let me rent a car. I understand that policies change. But here's the rub: I rented a car in Denver last week from Avis and drove it to Phoenix. So it kinda blows my kind that suddenly I'm not able to rent a car. Also, it essentially left me stranded, since I need to get back to Denver. But the cherry on top was that this gentleman acted pretty poorly and after explaining that he couldn't help me or help to sort out the inconsistency in policies all of a suddenly, he just turned towards his computer and started whistling as if to dismiss me, and offered litteraly no other help. I've rented at this budget twice and the first experience was lackluster well the second one was horrendous. The rep Teresa that gave me my rental was rude beyond belief. She did not go into any of the details of my rental, was in a rush to get me out when I did ask questions, and was shady into thinking she could charge me holiday fees when I requested an extra day (NOT on the holiday, on the weekend, or even the day after the holiday), the Budget customer service line was not even remotely helpful. Oh and gas tank was not even filled up when I rented it from them. I would highly advise against this location and perhaps this business as a whole! read more

I have rented a Toyota Sienna through Costco and picked up at this location. No pressure or hassle to add-on insurance. It was quick and easy! If you are a Costco member, the second driver is free. Most shitty experience. I booked this weeks ago. My husband comes from Seattle to Az. Takes 3 buses to get to the car rental shop because they are too cheap to have shuttles for the passengers. He doesn't have a credit card, but in the fine lines that wasn't a problem. All he had to do is pay $200 deposit. Well so we thought. We were fine with the deposit and ready for it, but Budget never told us that they were going to run a credit check, which they said was way too low.. 6.5 is average not low and really for a dumb ass car rental, why do you care about credit. We were quoted a great price at $80 for 4 days. hahah right But, now that they wouldn't rent to him even with a deposit because of scores that weren't mentioned in the fine lines of the rules. He was asked to go down the street to a private person that Budget sends to them on the people that don't pass a credit check. Of course the price is now $367.. Seriously, BUDGET GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER. If you are going to run a credit check on someone for using a debit card make sure you put that is large letters or even mention it at all in the fine lines. We had the cash in the bank to pay for the car, but yet you wouldn't take the $200 deposit that you said you would do on a debit card. With no shuttles provided, he hoped back on a bus to find a new place. This is such bullshit. We will never use you again and will make sure we tell family and friends how horrible customer service you have. Marketing you really need to get their shit together and make sure before people fly in from other states and countries that all rules are up front and obvious. I have rented from this Budget location several times now and have always had a great experience. They are laid back, no pressure to add all the extras, and friendly. The cars I have rented have always been in good condition and mechanically sound. My only complaint is that the hours they are open are more limited than some other locations. They close at 5:30 on weekdays and are open for a while on Saturdays and not at all on Sundays. They have a night drop box, however, and have never tried to overcharge me for an extra day when I use the box. Their prices are consistently more reasonable than other locations. read more

Budget is nothing more than thieves. I lost my car FOB. I offered to use AAA motor club to tow the car to the dealership in order to have a new FOB programmed. Budget assured me that all charges were covered and they would handle the tow. One month later they charge my credit card $439! When I called Budget for an explanation and a list of charges they original refused to give me any information. Four phone calls later, I was able to have a representative send me invoices. The invoices only added up to $376 and filled with Service fees and other Admin Fees. read more

I returned my truck to this location after moving across the country. I paid in advance. The return process was very quick and they didn't question anything. UPDATE: after wanting to move back across the country, I reserved a truck from this same location a month in advance. I called the day before my reservation, asking to confirm that everything was okay and on schedule. The receptionist said it was and said we'll call YOU if there are any problems. So I figured everything would be fine. The next morning, 30 minutes before I'm supposed to pick up the truck, they call me saying that my truck was "stuck in traffic" and wouldn't be there for another 1-2 hours after my scheduled time. I was very frustrated and told them I had movers booked and couldn't push my time back. They called back again about 15 minutes later admitting that my truck wasn't stuck in traffic- in fact, it had never even left the other Budget location where it was currently parked at. They told me if I needed the truck sooner I could drive out to Chandler and pick it up myself (which was an extra 25 minutes out of my way). They told me they would transfer my reservation to new location and I was all set. So a few minutes later I call the new location, trying to confirm that I was set to start driving out there and my truck would be ready. He had no idea of my situation because apparently my reservation was never transferred over. So he had to put me on hold while he called the Maricopa location to find out what was going on. Overall a huge hassle, threw off my moving schedule, and I didn't even get a discount for all the inconvenience. read more

This is a horrible car rental business who takes advantage of renters. I verbally said no to insurance because my personal auto insurance covers me. I explained this very well. Along with other upgrades the representative tried to push, I said no to all of them. He then had me sign a little electronic screen two times. Come to find out one of the times was for the insurance I verbally declined!! Now they refuse to remove the charges and over 3 days it's close to $100. Very shady and very sneaky company. The service was promt and polite. However, they gave us a car that was covered in large scratches, scuff marks, and had a decent amount of paint chipping off. We did not want to get blamed for the damages upon returning, so we asked for a new car. They politely obliged, but the new car they gave us wasn't much better. We took the car after being assured that the scratches would not be counted against us. The car did not seemed to be cleaned at all. The back seats were covered in dusty footprints and the windshield had something all over it that would not come off. There are crooks, dishonest and fraudulent. I prepaid a rental for $159.30 pick up on Friday through Sunday. When I arrived on Sunday, the facility was closed. Nothing in Terms and Conditions about this. There was an employee on the lot moving cars from the Phoenix Airport to their location who told us to put our gas receipt from filling up the vehicle at the Shell station, less than a block away, the keys and paperwork through the slot in the door, which I did, called Uber and headed to the airport. I get my CC statement and not only did BUDGET charge the prepaid amount but $194.93 in addition. I called immediately to the location and was told that if I had called within 24 hours, they would have removed the charges and sorry, there was nothing they could do and I would need to call their 800-527-7000 customer service line. Rick stated there was nothing he was going to do as the car was not returned full and that the vehicle was not checked in until Monday and that I would need to pay what I was billed, sorry. REALLY!!!! They had my CC and the ability to charge without my authorization whatever they wanted! NO WAY! FRAUD I SAY! The CC is working to resolve and I will let everyone I know about BUDGET rental fraud tactics and I WILL NEVER EVER RENT FROM BUDGET ANYWHERE! read more
