The Durham Convention Center is attached and the Carolina Theare is next to it. DPAC was about a 10-minute walk if that and included waiting for the traffic signals. Valet parking is $30 a night, so I decided to find a place on the street again. So I got street parking right near the hotel for free as it was the weekend. I am not a fan of valet or of paying $30 for parking. There are parking garages nearby if you prefer that. The staff was very friendly and I felt treated very well here as a Titanium member with an early check-in, lounge access and free breakfast. I didn't see any snacks in the lounge this visit. For breakfast, you need to use your key to enter the lounge. Beverages are in the lounge, but you go to the restaurant buffet for the food. It is quieter in the lounge than where the restaurant is located. My room was on the other side of the building this time and I didn't hear the train once. Usually, when I use a free night certificate, I tend to be put in the worst room available. But thankfully, that wasn't the case here, my room had a large window with a lot of natural light. The room had the vinyl plank flooring to look like hardwood and the decor and furniture were up to date. My stay was very comfortable here. This is one of the nicer hotels I've stayed and look forward to my next visit. I can see coming here for a staycation.

The lobby is large with a bar that offers up a (very limited and price-gouging) Starbucks menu, with plenty of places to sit even if you're not ordering anything. Speaking of, I recommend you leave the hotel in search of coffee because my very basic iced espresso that's normally around 6 dollars at a Starbucks was 10 dollars here plus tip. My room was pretty basic, don't expect much in terms of a view even though the windows are large. Decent-sized, comfy beds/linens. No bathrobe in the room (not sure if you can ask for one). I was informed that I'd get access to breakfast/evening refreshments in the lounge but I didn't have time to partake so I can't report on that (nor the gym). While slightly dated in appearance and a little basic overall, I feel the location makes up for all of that. I also got it at a decent rate which helps.

We are about little over an hour away so it was nice not having to drive. The hotel is in a cool area of Durham. Very hipster and industrial which is our favorite vibe. Parking was easy and plentiful (although $25!!!) I don't care for places that charge you parking when you are staying overnight. We got a pool view which it seems like this hotel was or laid out like a motel. I believe there is 4 floors. Floors 3 and 4 have a pool view. We were in room 424 which had a nice view of the pool and the igloos. I imagine this would be fun in the summer when the pool is swimable. The room needed a deep cleaning as the walls were filthy. All it takes is a wet cloth as the wallpaper is wipe able. The bathroom was decent although unsure if the mirror was broken as there was some exposed wiring. There was a very small bar of soap for your hands and the shampoo, conditioner and body wash were nearly empty. We also only had 2 bath towels so we had to go down and get another one as there was 3 of us. The carpet didn't seem to be vaccumed as there was clothing tags and what seemed like popcorn on it. Overall we'd stay here again but would expect the room to be a bit cleaner for the price. 4 stars for the view and vibe but 3 stars for the room itself.

It makes it ironic that pool view rooms are made to seem special because they are the motel rooms. They are also super loud because they overlook the Patio venue and have very thin walls. The furniture is quite dated, but they call it boutique. The rooms are not super clean. The bed was relatively comfortable for the quality of the property which is low. The lobby however is renovated and pretty nice looking. Walking into the lobby is a stark contrast from walking out to and into your room! They did not have breakfast available for our entire stay. They charge $1 for drip coffee "if you bring your own mug"! That had me laughing out loud. They didn't take the destination charges off our bill since we are globalists. The best feature of this property is the location. It's right in downtown Durham which is super cute! Go across the street to M Sushi or Queeny's for very different but both equally awesome food and experiences. Bottom line: If you need somewhere in downtown Durham to sleep and that's all, this spot will work.

He was very specific that it needed an elevator, indoor pool, gym, and breakfast. Our room needed two queen beds and a big TV. To say that this hotel met all his needs would be an understatement. He was so happy! Made it his best birthday ever. From our perspective, the hotel was super clean, very modern, and beautiful. The staff was very informative and helpful, professional and kind. The room was very nice, clean, and cozy. The breakfast was quite impressive, pool was so clean, and all areas were well kept and maintained. The staff always looked busy, very determined to ensure a great stay for everyone. Only complaint was there were no souvenirs, my son really wanted a Hampton Inn t-shirt or hat. I realize that this isn't a common thing in a hotel, but he would've loved it. We really liked the shop area in the lobby and think a few souvenirs could've been placed there. But that sure doesn't limit how awesome our stay was. They have no idea how happy they made a little boy; they made his birthday dream come true. It was literally like 30 minutes from our house, but for that boy it may have well had been another world. Thank you to the incredible staff and team for giving him this amazing gift. Even if they didn't know they did.

I have been using this same location for almost 10 years staying sometimes weeks at a time visiting sick family. The hotel and staff have always been amazing and I frequently stay at Hampton Inn because of the experience. I was beyond disappointed this time that they were charging me $10/night for parking in basically a public open lot. I'm not even sure how they know what car belongs in the lot since they never even took my vehicle information upon registration. Make things worst there is no previous mention of the added charges anywhere prior to booking. This is enough to lose this long time customer...check my bookings o er the years! I hope this $10 is worth the loss of future business. Charging guest for nothing is the worst business model !

This Residence Inn in Durham fell short in ways that are difficult to overlook. The positives: * Convenient location, especially for Duke and medical visits * Spacious room with modern décor * Extra-large bathroom and generous vanity -- easily the best feature * Breakfast area was spacious and pleasant (food was standard Residence Inn fare) The problems: Sleep quality is a basic hotel expectation, and this property did not deliver. The HVAC unit was extremely loud and cycled on and off all night. There was no clear way to turn it off completely, and it repeatedly woke us up. The refrigerator was older and made a constant ticking/compressor noise. Between the two, restful sleep was nearly impossible. Parking added another layer of frustration. There are very few surface spaces, a very small garage, and guests are charged for parking on top of that. Charging for parking when availability is this limited feels unreasonable. Additionally, the shower was missing body wash upon arrival -- a small detail, but one that speaks to oversight. We reported the HVAC noise and missing body wash to Tiffany and a woman who appeared to be a manager (Scott). While both were polite, no Bonvoy points or other acknowledgment of the inconvenience were offered. The room layout and location are strong, but between the noise issues and parking situation, we would choose another hotel in Durham in the future.

This place wasn't here the last time we were in town, but it's a perfect place to stay now. Located just off the Duke east campus, it's along Main Street, a couple minutes from Ninth street in one direction, downtown the other, and little jaunt to the Durham Bulls park and very close to the main freeways in the area. The building is very long - we were at the far end and it helped us get our steps in! The room we were in was at the end in a corner and was an odd shape - literally no other way to put it. The bedroom was good size, the couch room was just a little small. We have three little dudes sleeping in there and they did just fine. I just required a little feng shui! The bathroom had a random fifth wall that the toilet sat on. Not a big deal, just different than we've seen elsewhere. Our room was right over the parking garage, which was also very awkwardly shaped. There's a spot at the far end that you need to back into as we found it impossible to three point into it. Again, not a show stopper, but good to know ahead of time. The overflow lot across the street was much more straightforward. There's nice sitting space, a lively bar and a good medium sized workout area. The breakfast was solid, the market delightful, the staff lovely and the grounds overall very nice. It's a great property with some quirks and lot of really nice character. We'll be back!

The reviews were promising (I thought I saw one or two reviews that stated parking was free or available on the street by the hotel). I booked the morning of my stay for a little over $142 (whereas JB Duke was $191 + free validated parking). I arrived around 5:30pm and parked in the retail shops parking just for my check-in and figured I'd either get free parking in AC's garage or find street parking later (was just dropping off my bag). As my check-in process was almost complete the staff member asked if I had a vehicle - I confirmed and she pulled out a card and asked that I place it in my dash, told me where the elevators were and wished me on my way. I read over the card while in the elevator and see that it's $20 per night for garage parking. I guess no biggie because even with a parking charge, the stay was still cheaper than JB Duke. The room was nice and clean and I was facing the street on the second floor (room 204). When I arrived back later that evening around 8pm I was able to find a parking spot quickly on the basement floor of the garage and entered the elevators to go to the 2nd floor. I checked out the gym as it was on my floor (ellipticals, pelotons maybe?, treadmills, rowing machine and free weights) - decent for a quick workout. I turned in for the night around 8:45 and the linens looked clean but didn't smell "fresh" and then noticed I could hear the dreaded stomping above me... and then I could hear the man next door hacking/clearing his throat. The man eventually stopped but the stomping basketball dribbling seemed to go on until 10:30pm. I did not get a good night's sleep due to the "thin" ceiling and I was awakened by the street sounds the next morning). 2.5 stars for price and convenience to Duke. Will pay more next time to stay at the other place down the street.
