We found this place when we moved to Baytown 6 months ago and let me tell you we are NOT DISAPPOINTED! We love coming here , pick something different every-time and we always love it! Don't be surprised how we were when we saw that the bbq cooks are Mexicanos wohoooo we do make good food!! The service is also great! Very friendly and welcoming!! Keep it up because your doing great!! This time we ordered the lodes potatoes and they are huge and tasty!! We ask for the bbq sauce on the side . We also order the specials and today it was the order of 2 meats and 2 sides. Pretty large orders for a good price!! We always end up having leftovers!! I have mixed reviews on Buds. We came late, right before closing. The sides seem to have been sitting for a while, you could tell because there was a crust on top. We ordered ala carte order of fish, and 1lb of ribs. The breading on the fish was well seasoned, but we were a little disappointed in the size of the Fillets, considering they said it's about $4 each. The ribs were nice and tender, but the flavor wasn't the best. The restaurant had an older ambience to it, which aligned with the OG BBQ theme. We were in the mood for bbq and some weren't, looked at the menu for this place and saw they also offered fish & shrimp, burgers, etc., so we tried out this spot. Glad we did!! When we walked in there wasn't anyone there, BUT the smell of the bbq/food was good!! A family of 5, we ordered a burger w/fries, chopped beef baked potato, fish & shrimp w/fries, chopped beef sandwich w/fries, kids meal (chopped beef sandwich w/fries), 2 sides of mac & cheese), 3 drinks, total: $63.00. Not bad at all, especially because they are not stingy with the servings. The hamburger is fresh meat, we made sure to ask. The fish & shrimp plate, fish was a very big piece & the shrimp were also big and not over battered, fries had a nice crisp them too. The baked potato was loaded up, chopped beef was tender and their bbq sauce was good too. The chopped beef, regular & kids plate were also loaded up with chopped beef. Sliced turkey was perfect, tender with great flavor; as was the beef. I was with a large group and everyone said the same thing, "that was good." Bud's serves some of the better BBQ in Baytown. Ribs are tender, sides are good and the BBQ sauce is good. Pros - Drive-Thru Window, good food, reasonably priced. Cons - I guess some menu items are hit or miss. Overall, I prefer this joint over Kings or Going's. read more

Best BBQ in Baytown, forget Steve's and Goeings... this place is where it is at! The ribs are so flavorful and have a delicious sweet smoky crust, dipped in their famous BBQ sauce it is close to nirvana! Apparently, Bud's is now serving junk Sysco Foods potato salad and featuring four tasteless, thick cut and terribly bland chunks of meat on a bun slathered in a disgusting bottled bbq sauce and trying to pass it off as a sliced beef sandwich. It took 10 minutes for them to prepare this nonsense while the restaurant was a virtual ghost town. Literally three customers, all previously served, in the post-lunch hour. With lethargic service like that, I expected, bare minimum, decent food. I was wrong. Bud's disappointed me on every level today. Bud's is a good BBQ place. It doesn't have the best of everything, but I've never had anything bad there. I do prefer some items like the turkey baked potatoes, when they aren't out of baked potatoes. Recently, I've noticed that some of the sides seem to have less flavor than before. For example, the beans. It doesn't matter which type of beans, either. Each time I've had to add some more seasoning to them. It might be a sign, but I hope not. They are located in a prime spot in Baytown, so it's easy access to get to when in the BBQ mood and they have a drive-thru. The above might be because the past few times I've gone in, I've gotten the impression that the ownership has changed hands by some minor changes here and there that seem out of "Texas character." I'd recommend giving this place at least a try to see if you like it. read more

Bud's BBQ in Baytown is ehhh. I've eaten there a few times (smh) its near my job and they are one of the last restaurants open. Its in the Kroger's strip center and it has a drive-thru now that's a plus. The chicken was dry and the sides were just blah. Now the fully loaded chicken potato was good minus the sauce is a good pick and it can feed two people. But I don't recommend to much more from Bud's. The place itself is kind of blah...standard tables and chairs. Man!!!! I'm heartbroken. Buds ribs are the best I've had in a long time. I order from them 2 or 3 times a month. I ordered a fried turkey for Thanksgiving a few weeks ago. The receipt I was given didn't reference what I had ordered so I politely asked the lady to write "fried turkey" on the receipt. She sarcastically asked,"you want me to sign it too?" I told her no and kidded that they all know her writing. She lightened up a little. So my wife goes to pick it up today, the day before Thanksgiving, and they can't find it. They got an attitude with her and finally brought out a roasted turkey. She showed the receipt and they huddled up trying to decide what to do. They finally, begrudgingly, brought out a fried turkey. I was not impressed with this place at all, when the fried okra was the best part of your plate, theres something wrong, the chopped beef sandwhich was basically a sloppy joe and their sauce is far from perfected, there is way to much ketchup in it, when I burped all I could taste was ketchup and that lasted for a few hours. We've been going to Bud's for 5 or 6 years (from the previous owners through the present). It has remained consistent, if not better, over time and quite good. Barbecue is such an individual choice and I'm not one a foodie, but I've been to a number of places across the U. S. and I'm quite satisfied with the Bud's food and service. It's a simple restaurant and I would say, Stick to the barbecue (brisket, ribs, sausage and chicken are all fine, including chopped beef sandwiches) and good french fries. The desserts are very tasty as well. My experience with the other menu items is, meh, mediocre. Prices are on par with most regular barbecue places. They've recently added smoothies and tapioca drinks. I haven't tried them because of a restricted diet but they look fine if you don't mind machine-made frozen drinks. I called in a dinner order for three to save some time, what a JOKE. I arrived about 15 minutes after placing the order with a stressed out person on the phone and should have KNOWN, "this is going to be bad" when she yelled at someone over her shoulder during the call and proceeded to count out loud adding up a ticket (not mine) while taking my order. When I arrived I parked and went inside where there was one Car at the the drive through, one other customer inside and at least six employees behind the counter. One very nervous server that did say "I'll be with you as soon as I can" as she wrung her hands and moved about almost frantic, two standing young men and doing a very good job of ignoring customers while they worked on a credit card terminal, one lady in the back near the food prep doing who knows what, one lady and one guy who never looked up while they made a mess on the floor with a buffet pan somehow was stored on the shelf in the back with water in it that ended up sloshed across the kitchen floor. The service was absolutely disappointing. After standing a few minutes; ignored, I advised the young men who were ignoring people that if my order was cold they were going to remake my entire order. After they all looked at each other not saying a word, the lady from the kitchen took my credit card and disappeared and the "Nervous Nellie" waitress bagged the order, looking as if she was going to break and run at any minute. We spent $44 ($14.66 per person) seems reasonable but the rice on two plates was so salty it was not edible, we ordered two meat plates and the portion was about what would equal a single serving portion of meat on the plate at any other BBQ place in the area. Baked beans were just ok. Stale white bread wrapped in paper rounded out the meals. In conclusion the whole experience was not good, it's a shame Baytown as a whole seems to accept this place enough for them to stay in business. I ordered a spicy sausage sandwich through the drive through on Sunday right before the NFL playoff games and when I got home found the sausage itself was rotten and tasted of kerosene (that's the best I can describe it.) Obviously I couldn't eat it. On Monday after work, I took my receipt back and went through the drive through and tried to explain the problem, didn't ask for my money back or anything just wanted them to know about the problem. They took my receipt went in the back for 20 seconds and then came back and said they couldn't help me and slammed the drive through window in my face. Bud's Barbecue has been around for years, 30+years. The place offers great service and friendly atmosphere. It has tender meats and delicious sides. They have wonderful home-made desserts. You got to have one after your meal. The price is very affordable for all the bbq places I have been to. read more
