This was recommended to me by my buddy I enjoyed the food the ribs were nicely chard and well smoked. The side selection was not very good. I went simple with the Mac and Potatoe salad only because nothing else look pleasant. The Sauce was nice a little light for my taste but complimented the ribs perfectly. It's a local favorite but the business has seem to let itself go. The food options are not as they use to be. Seasoning and flavor are complete different. The cost is what you expect for BBQ. The facilities are definitely run down and could use a serious facelift and repairs. So if you are going don't be surprised about the interior and serving line. read more

Yikes. I'm on a mission to try every restaurant in Baytown and I've never been to Goings Barbeque. I came in solo when there was only one other couple in the restaurant. I waited for a few minutes and thought about leaving when I saw how old the side dishes looked on the "buffet" but then a nice man walked up and asked what I wanted. I decided on the two meat plate with chicken and ribs and my two sides of corn bake and green beans. The barbecue chicken was so incredibly dry that I couldn't eat more than two bites. It would have been somewhat edible if there was some sort of sauce or if it had been cooked fresh. This hadn't. The ribs were unseasoned, overcooked and tough to chew. I was so underwhelmed with all of my food, except for the green beans, that I left my plate on the table and walked out. The "corn bake" is not baked. It is canned corn with some sort of sour cream mixture that is entirely too watery and unappealing. The green beans were good because they were warm but they were straight out of a can. I wouldn't call this "horrible" barbeque because it was so overcooked and had been sitting under heat lamps for so long that I didn't want to really try it. I'm sure it tastes fine regularly. 2 stars for portions. I had ribs and coleslaw and fries. Husband had 2meats brisket and sausage beans and potato salad both with rolls. The sausage was just sausage. Ribs were smokey and dry. Brisket was tasteless and dry. Potato salad and coleslaw tasted like what you get at walmart. The beans were not good. The bbq sauce was watery and vinegary. Rolls were not at all fresh. Let me start out by saying I'm a BBQ B*tch. My dad was a grill master, and I was spoiled with amazing BBQ growing up. Secondly, this Texas. We supposedly know good BBQ. This isn't it. This isn't even edible. I ordered: brisket, sausage, baked beans, and mustard potato salad. Husband ordered: brisket, sausage, ham, "corn bake", and baked beans. First, the Golden Standard for all Texas BBQ: Brisket. This stuff is so dry, I refuse to take a second bite. The bark looks okayish, there's absolutely no smoke ring, and it's so dry it's literally flaking like fish. It's disgusting and inedible. Brisket should be moist and juicy. This isn't. Sausage: Meh. Hard to screw up sausage. Ham: Husband said its ok. "It's not as dry as the brisket, so at least there's that." Mustard potato salad: This, I like. He didn't. But that doesn't mean it doesn't taste exactly like store-bought potato salad. Baked beans: They've definitely got Tobasco in them, and either green chiles or jalapeños. Not spicy though. But they don't have much flavor. Corn bake: This stuff looked like pig slop, and I'm surprised he even took a bite. He said its awful, and even a ton of salt doesn't help. It honestly looks like cream gravy with chunks of corn in it. BBQ sauce: It's not like any BBQ sauce I've ever had. It's not Carolina (tangy with vinegar), Memphis (sweet), or Texas (smoky). It's not anything. It tastes like BBQ sauce but barely. It's also watery. The verdict: If you consider yourself someone who truly appreciates good BBQ, stay far away. This is disgusting. I wish I could give it 1/2 star, which is solely for the store bought potato salad. Also? Without even asking, they smothered my husband's plate with BBQ sauce. I asked for mine on the side. I guess if you've grown up in Baytown and this is the only BBQ you've ever known, you'd like it. But if you've ever had good BBQ, don't waste your time or money. I wish I'd taken one look at their order line and walked right back out. I'm posting photos. As a note, we ran into friends as we were walking out. Another good BBQ place in Baytown. I've been going here for a long time. I'd say this place is better than Bud's and it's in the older part of Baytown, so most people will have to want to go there. I've never had anything bad. Again, it's not the best BBQ ever, but it works when I need some meat and sides. All the meats have a good flavor and tenderness to it. I do have to say, their sides do give them an edge. I think they have some of the better sides of any BBQ place in Baytown. They have this beer corn casserole that I just can't stop eating. Always a go-to place for ok bbq for a low price: quarter white meat chicken breast with fried okra=$4.16 and has been that price for years now. The meat cutter and customer service are also solids that keep me returning to this place. Not any sort of fantabulous taste, but I like to think a bit low-calorie with low-budget. read more

Absolutely LOVE this tender bbq and the wonderful people who run this establishment. They make me feel like extended family when I walk in the door every single time. I have treated a couple of out-of-town friends to lunch here on different occasions, and they both loved it and request it when they're in town. Whatever rub they use on the meat is THE BOMB!! Also, I sometimes order an extra side of bbq sauce because it's my favorite to use at home in things like meatloaf or just for my meal prep all week! When I visited Baytown I wanted to come here as way back in the day was really good. However this isn't the case anymore. The parking lot was empty was should of been a clue but decided to proceed anyway. First they were out of certain items and the items they had on display (mainly sides) looked like they had been there for days definitely did not look fresh and was at room temp rather then hot. Upon ordering the guy that cut the meat was NOT very pleasant and the woman that I've seen there since the beginning of time was even more unpleasant!! It seemed like I was a bothering them or disturbing them from just sitting around. That I'm itself made me want to walk out. After all isn't that their job? The sausage was horrible. No flavor and again room temperature. When asked for extra toppings on a baked potato they seemed highly agitated even somewhat rude I even stated I had no problem paying extra. But again seemed like I was bothering them even by asking for service. The brisket was dry and the sauce was watered down. Again this used to be a good place to eat but is no longer!! There are more places now in Baytown that offer BBQ at a good price and good food. I will not be returning I don't think ever again especially because of the unfriendly service. Don't waste your time or money. The food is trash and way overpriced. I had brisket, sausage links, mac n cheese, bbq beans and jalapeño bread. The bread was hard and stale. The meat had no flavor and the bbq sauce tasted awful. The beans tasted like canned bush beans. The Mac n cheese was just ok. I paid just shy of $15 without a drink. We are from Baytown and when we travel we use Goings as a standard to judge other barbecue restaurants against. We sometimes say " This barbecue is almost as good as Goings". It was more like the buffet line at Bishops, or the school lunch line where you have a tray and someone asks you what you want and dishes it up...you pay at the end of the line. It just wasn't what I was expecting I guess. I was excited at first because right at the start of the line, you picked your meat, and a nice gentleman carved my brisket right in front of me, which was cool...but they were out of a lot of stuff, one of them being cornbread...which I have never been a fan of, but was hoping authentic BBQ would change my opinion..."sigh." Very delicious barbecue at very reasonable prices. The wait staff are also very friendly and accommodating. The dinner rolls are also quite large and have a nice hint of sweetness. Meh. I had the chopped BBQ sandwich- fatty pieces of meat with a less than adequate amount of sauce on a hamburger bun. It was not awful, but I won't order it again. He had the two meat plate (sausage and brisket) and said it was good. The potato salad was the best part of the meal, and the onion rings, which were incredibly fresh and made to order, were still just your basic onion rings. Portions were of a very good size for the price, so this place should do well for picky or unadventurous eaters, or those looking for a good value. Going's, Baytown, was much better in the past, but has been going downhill. They seem more concerned with costs than quality now. Yesterday evening, they had the air conditioning turned to an uncomfortably high temperature to save money. We couldn't wait to leave the dump. Their food is very mediocre. Fair barbeque, and poor, pre-prepared sides. They served me the very last little bit of a barrel of cole slaw with I chose not to eat. It was nasty little half serving. The other diners in my same group, received full, fresh helping from a fresh, cool container. They are buffet style with NO service yet their personnel hawk tips for doing nothing. If you tip the meat cutter, your portions will be oversized, but otherwise your meat portions are meager. Based on numerous vsits... just stay away. The place has gone to the dogs. read more

My usual is Chopped beef sandwich with Cajun veggies & corn bake. We also love the Steak & Shrimp for dinner & the chicken tenders with gravy & fries are a favorite for the kids. Going 's has the best steaks in Baytown. I've been in Baytown for 20 years. All these other steak houses can come to town but they will never beat Goings. Want to get a little more bang for your buck. Friday night buy one steak dinner get one half off. Comes with two sides. I always get a loaded baked potatoe and salad and my husband get beans and potato salad. It is a BBQ house after all. And their dessert are to die for. Homemade pies. I get my steak cooked medium well. It is tender and juicy and not a lot of fat. The homemade breads are also wonderful. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This was my first time at Going's. My first impression was it was a bit high priced for the non traditional sit down type venue. You have to go through a line, get your own drinks and seat yourself. No waitress to fill up your tea, but they charge as much as other BBQ establishments with a full wait staff. I was not greeted with any warm friendly smile and when I told them it was our first time, they just said.... get a tray and start here. Nothing hospitable about that. While sitting and eating a ROACH crawled across the table! I asked for someone to come over and the lady came over and killed said roach with a napkin and (while never looking at me) said that the exterminator was out today and sorry for the issue. Well, I never saw her go wash her hands when returning to the serving line nor did she seek out the manager to come apologize to me. I then asked for the manager before I left and NEVER felt like they wanted my business. I expressed to her that it was our first visit and would be our last due to the customer service I received after the roach. If she wanted my business, she could have offered a free appetizer or a coupon for a next visit, heck even just a free tea on next visit, but NOTHING. If the front of the house runs like that with no systems in place to give a customer the impression to come back, I have no business going there again. She had no interest in investing not even five dollars to keep me coming back. Sad. No wonder there were only three people eating there and she said she was too busy to come out. She was busy doing office things and that is why the lady never told her about us and the roach is what she said. I'm sorry, but some things need the finesse of a well seasoned employee or the manager and this was a time they could have saved it by just more than an excuse.
