OMG, the brisket and ribs combo here is amazing! The meat was so tender and full of smoky flavor. Seriously, if you're craving some great brisket and ribs, you need to check this spot out. You won't regret it!

This was a great local place we found while in Houston doing work at the port. Food was great we had a taste of all the meats between the group! The sides were nice too! The onions, pickles and white bread were a nice touch! Looks like they were expanding as well! Worth the drive from the port for lunch! Parking can be a challenge due to the neighbor availability of on street parking!

I spent $25.69 on Friday, December 12, 2025 for 2 Ribs, 3 Small Slices of Brisket, a Small Side of Potato Salad, a Small side of Beans, 2 slices of bread and a Coke. The brisket and ribs lacked any BBQ taste or smoke flavor. The brisket had no flavor and definitely needed the BBQ sauce that came in the condiment cup to remotely taste like BBQ. The ribs already had a slight coating of BBQ sauce to try and taste like BBQ. The portions on the side of Bean and Potato Salad were extremely small and amounted to about 3 spoons each. They were smaller than a standard ice-cream scoop in serving size. The portions were so small if you were dieting it would not be considered cheating almost like a Kids Meal. The 2 white cups in the photo are smaller than a 4 ounce cup that some restaurants give for condiments and in this case this is the potato salad and beans. I have never seen styrofoam containers this small. The BBQ sauce is in a standard clear condiment container. You can see how it compares to the sides cup which may have been 4 ounce side cups. Ironically several people came in and ordered FISH plates but no BBQ while I dined. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining area is small so you can hear everything including what people ordered.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] On a positive note the lady taking orders at the counter was pleasant.

Hoot's is located on a corner of Canal Street and is easily located due to its large signage out front. Parking is on the street only. Inside the restaurant looks very clean and modern and is a counter service restaurant. I've visited twice within the past couple of weeks and it is open Wed-Sun 11-8. The first visit was to order their smoked 1/2 chicken plate with two sides for $12. I chose the baked beans and potato salad as the side dishes and the food was ready in less than 10 minutes. The chicken is served in a deep tin pan with a cardboard cover. This is rarely done but also told me that this bird was going to be great tasting and it was. Flavorful and juicy with a delicious smoked rub this chicken was perfect (5). One unusual thing was that the white meat was almost as juicy and tender as the dark meat was. Loved it! Serving the smoked chicken this way is the mark of a real pro. The sides were also served in their own covered containers. The mustard based potato salad was cool and creamy (4) and the beans were good in a thicker bold tasting sauce (3.5). The second visit was for a sliced brisket sandwich $14 and sides of dirty rice and mac n cheese for $2 each. The sandwich was wrapped in paper and placed in a styrofoam container to stay warm. The meat on the bun was a generous serving but I thought the meat was a little dry and not as flavorful as I had hoped. Therefore, I used some of the supplied bbq sauce on the meat. Their sauce is thicker than usual and has a bold taste to it. This sandwich while large in size only deserved a 3.5 score for taste and moistness. The mac n cheese was good tasting with just enough cheese to not drown out the elbow macaroni (4) but the dirty rice was dry and I scored it at a 2. I had high hopes after the first visit but the second one disappointed me somewhat. The brisket should have been better and the side dishes are uneven but the prices are reasonable.

Potato salad is the worst I've ever had Greens beans are good, taste like something a mother who seasons her food would cook. Mac n Cheese is good too. Basic but hits the spot Brisket baked potatoes I originally asked for turkey but they were out. Which was weird because they just opened. Brisket is good. Wish they gave more bbq sauce Bbq sauce is good as well, got the spicy bbq sauce Taste homemade

A very nice surprise for barbecue in a working class neighborhood. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were surprised not more people were in the dining area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It seems like this is more visited restaurant for lunch than it is for dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]So if you're looking for a quiet spot for dinner and great barbecue, it's worth the drive to this restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the trio platter which came with an overly stuffed baked potato and two sides my partner ordered ribs, brisket, and chicken. I ordered brisket turkey and sausage. All the meats were moist well done with a light smoked flavor the ribs at a candied glaze. The sausage is made in House as well as being delicious and was certainly moist. None of the meat was dried out. I've eaten a lot of barbecue and hoots is certainly a great experience for a barbecue connoisseur in my opinion. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you're in the area and looking for barbecue, that is not only well prepared but seemingly a good value in the dining area that is clean with a friendly and accommodating staff this restaurant hoots is worth a visit.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great BBQ and spotless restaurant, stopping in from out of town.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Stephanie waited on me and she is so welcoming and attentive which enhanced my experience more than expected. What an unexpected surprise. Owner Marcus also came to my table to ask about my meal. This type of customer service unfortunately is rare today.

This barbecue place has the best smoked pork ribs I've have tasted in a while. I'm talking fall off the bone good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service was great and the atmosphere was family friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's in my old neighborhood where I grew up. In fact I am taking a slab back home with me to Waxahachie Texas. They have a nice menu to choose from.

This was our second time. This is one of the best bbq restaurants I've ever been to! My husband and I got a 2 meat plate with brisket and their homemade sausage. I had the macaroni and cheese, while my husband raved about their dirty rice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is clean and so are the bathrooms.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Curtis, the cook, is so friendly and talented. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I even enjoy talking to the customers, some of whom have been going there for years.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I highly recommend Hoots. Support small family businesses.

    Elyon R.

Really, I'd give them a 4.5, and that's based on the strength of the brisket. Very flavorful!!! Throughout the meat, seasoned perfectly. No sauce needed, although the sauce seems homemade and is great! Baked potato was good as well as the sweet tea. Big kudos for having ketchup with real sugar instead of HFCS. The food is delicious. The .5 negative is that all the sides have pork, and the Mac and cheese was not good to me. Fries were battered, which I usually don't like but hey we're still good. I didn't like the cold onions and jalapeño - yuk! As I said, brisket counts for a large part of my review, and this brisket delivered and carries the weight. I'll definitely come back for that if nothing else. We also got peach cobbler and ice cream - both homemade! The man who's responsible for that wonderful brisket is none other than Chef Curtis, who was kind of enough to come out and talk with us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Good modern country music.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm surprised this place isn't packed. Must be the location![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This is cafeteria style with you ordering and your order is sliced and plated right in front of you. We went around the corner to the bar area and sat inside. That was really nice since the main restaurant was packed. We got 2 of the 2 meat and 2 side plates. I got the turkey and jalapeño cheddar sausage with Mac n cheese and potato salad. Everything was delicious. The turkey was so moist and tender. The sausage was Smokey and spicy. The Mac n cheese was super cheesy and the potato salad had a lot of flavor. The BBQ sauce provided was too spicy for me, but that didn't matter. My husband got the brisket and pulled pork with green beans and the elote. The brisket was super tender and flavorful. The pulled pork was Smokey and tender. The elote was really good. I didn't care for the green beans, but my husband liked them. Really enjoyed this spot. My experience here is why I tend to not frequent BBQ places, I hate being disappointed. The barbecue sauce (the signature and regular) were not good at all. Neither tasted like BBQ sauce. One tasted like tomato sauce with seasoning and the other tasted like a vinegary Tabasco sauce. The brisket was okay, nothing super impressive but no complaints. The queso might have been the most egregious issue (after the BBQ sauce) imagine paying $11 for tasteless, unimpressive, liquid cheese. Nothing in it but cheese and prayers. Adding the brisket (1/4lb for ~$9) along with a variety of other seasonings, made it okay. Ironically, reheating it after a few hours made it actually taste a bit better (enough to justify the price? Absolutely not). The mac and cheese was equally tasteless. One thing I think the Pit Room does EXCEPTIONALLY well is making pickles! These were delicious, seriously I'd go back just for the pickles (only the pickles).

After doing my research and seeing food bloggers post online about this place, I decided to try it! We went on a Saturday afternoon at 2 pm - packed! There were no tables available inside and there were people inside and outside waiting for their orders. That's something to be ready for if you come on a Saturday. Our order didn't actually take that long. Or maybe it took a little while and we didn't mind waiting. Either way, it wasn't that bad! Luckily it's located in a shopping area so there's always parking. My main gripe is that they close at 7pm. I'm sure there's a good reason for that but I've wanted to try it multiple times before but they've been closed! I ended up going with the infamous brisket and fried rice. The brisket was super tender - I was able to pull it apart with my fork. I typically shy away from brisket because usually it's tough. But this was delicious - tender and had a nice smoky flavor. Not overwhelming or too salty. The rice had a great flavor too. There were chunks of meat in that as well and the rice had a nice smoky flavor. Not too salty or greasy. It also came with some accoutrements - pickled onions, fresh pickled cucumbers, jalapeños, bbq sauce and bread. The cucumbers and onions stole the show - very fresh and refreshing. We were surprised at the pickled onions - they were soo good! Overall - worth the hype! I'll definitely be back to try ribs, chicken or pulled pork sandwich. I heard everything is good here!!

I'm viet and imo that's the best way to pickle anything. Restaurant clean, service friendly and very fast. You can tell they are a neighborhood favorite, so many people came in after us to pick up and dine in! Only thing to "improve" is it was a little warm in the restaurant. Not sure if the ac was struggling bc of this Texas heat or what but other than that, food was excellent and we definitely will be back. Highly recommend!

You can ask to see the piece of rib before they cut it for you and they will happily oblige (patrons behind you might not be so thrilled with that move, but they'll live). Sides were excellent as were the mashed potatoes with white gravy on the side, green beans that were just tender enough, but also a bit crunchy. Perfect. They were seasoned with pork, so if that's not your thing, you might want to skip it. We also ordered their shareable onion rings, easily enough for three people that were huge, hot, and crispy. Let's get this out of the way, some of their prices are a little up there, but if you're anything like me, and don't frequent BBQ places often, it's a rare but enjoyable treat. Sometimes you have to splurge and live a little. Also, they have their regular sauce on tables, but you now have to ask the cashier for their sublime coffee BBQ sauce. Don't be shy, ask. It's worth it. Oh, pro tip: If you want beef ribs, the 'plate' is actually cheaper and a better deal than 'by the pound', so save a little money and get two sides.

The restaurant is cute and they do their best to keep the service consistent throughout the entire visit. The BBQ was a little dry but good. The disappointing part of the trip were the sides. 95% of the sides had pork in them which made the entire wait not worth it. This was my first time visiting and it will be my last.

Visiting from out of town and decided to give this place a try. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door. I was not sure what I wanted to try, so Sam, the owner, gave me a sampling of everything; brisket sandwich, spare rib, potato, salad, coleslaw, beans, macaroni and cheese, jambalaya rice, and french fries. Everything tasted better than expected, especially the french fries, as few BBQ restaurants are able to get these just right. I will definitely return tomorrow to try something new. Definitely ordering the macaroni and cheese and potato salad again. Special thanks to Sam, the owner, who definitely took care of me. He knew I was from out of town, but treated me like a long time customer, which I greatly appreciate. Give this place a try... You will not be disappointed!

The counter service keeps things moving while the food speaks for itself. The brisket was exactly what you'd hope for: a pronounced bark, a rendered fat cap, and slices that held together until they were pulled apart. The surprise for me was the brisket taco. Instead of feeling like a gimmick, it showcased the meat in a different way, balancing smoke, richness, and fresh toppings without masking the brisket. Good barbecue restaurants know their sides matter just as much as the meat. The mac and cheese was creamy, the sausage had a satisfying snap, and the house barbecue sauce complemented rather than covered the smoke. If you're visiting Houston, this is the kind of place that reminds you why Texas barbecue has earned its reputation. Efficient counter service, excellent brisket, and enough menu variety to keep you coming back.

Also ordered turkey sandwich and 2 tacos , one beef and one pulled pork. My favorite thing was the fixings bar. I seriously felt fomo when I saw the food being made. The portions seem small to me. We enjoyed the food though. I did not like the pulled pork taco, maybe because it got soggy. I would like to try some other items and also their dessert.
