First time here. The ordering and pick up process was smooth, and the staff were friendly. The vegan cheesesteak was so delish!! For $8.00, you get a really generous portion. I just wish it came with a bit more sauce. Will still be back!

For those who want a quick review: Woah, all I will say to this is my jaw dropped. Got the Buffalo sub but in a wrap with extra chicken. I will say that it was fantastic If this is what vegans eat every day then I can see the appeal. For something more in depth: For context I am one that is on no particular diet, I'm not vegan, nor am I on a carnivorous diet. All I wanted today was a sandwich or something of the like. So I scoured yelp for a sandwich, and I found buds. I looked on their website and found that everything is vegan, which i usually am quite skeptical of. But my vegan coworker told me that he loves this place, and that even his non vegan friends raved about the buffalo sub. So i decided to place an online order, making my sub into a wrap with extra chicken($10.12 after tax, $1.50 of that being the extra "meat"). So I gandered on over from state street and walked up to the window to pickup my order, got my food and started walking back. I didn't sit down but they do have shaded seating outside. I opened up my food and saw it was pretty decently sized, and started taking my first skeptical bite. Let me tell you that this was fantastic, the buffalo sauce had just enough kick, the food was warm and the texture of the cabbage and tomato 'wrapped' up a delicious bite(pun intended). I was flabbergasted, this was unlike what I had expected. The food was on point and it kept me satisfied the whole walk back to work. I will say that I will be back, and will probably bring more with me because this place is fan freaking tastic. Rating: 5/5 stars

Bud's is a SLC vegan fixture. It is a sandwich stand with limited outdoor seating on the curb in the sun. The food is good but Bud's falls flat on service. We had the Italian sub and the philly cheesesteak. The bread is fresh and so are the ingredients. But both would have been improved with mustard for the italian and ketchup for the philly. Bud's neither stocks nor distributes condiments of any kind. Bud's says "no ketchup for you". Bud's does not accept legal tender of any denomination, only electronic. Bud's will not do special orders. Bud's wants you to order online, pick up your food, then clear the F out directly. Bud's is a sandwich stand, not a restaurant. Manage your expectations. No recommendation decide for yourself.

Had to come to Buds while visiting SLC for the first time. Tried out their famous buffalo sammy and it did NOT disappoint! Normally, I eat half of a sandwich and save the other half for later but in this case it was so good that I ate it all in one sitting. I believe less is more and really enjoyed that it wasn't unnecessarily filled with too many ingredients. The two different sauces marinated in the bread and made each bite that much tastier. The bread was fresh and filling. Highly recommend if you're looking for a yummy sammy. Ordering was easy and I waited in their outdoor dining area while it was being made. read more

I love Buds. They have a great, affordable menu, delicious Chai, and friendly service. While I don't eat plant-based all the time, I do enjoy the Bahn Mi at Buds when I'm in the area. It's a huge sandwich, delicious, and flavorful. And under $10?! Such a steal. Plant-based or not, I'd recommend you give Buds a shot! read more

Best place ever! I love going here. But PLEASE, if y'all could offer gluten free bread/wrap/something (upcharge totally fine), my partner would be able to eat here and it would be life-changing lol. I also got some celiac friends who can never join me here and it makes me #sad big time that they can't experience Buds . As a vegan I really wanted to like this place. I was extremely disappointed to learn that they practice capitalist elitism by only accepting card payments. Refusing cash payment is socioeconomic discrimination and class warfare that excludes the hungrier among us. I thought an all vegan restaurant would be more conscientious. read more

I got a sandwich here this afternoon that I can't stop thinking about. I truly may go get it again tomorrow. I was sad to see that Buds changed out their menu a little bit ago and got rid of my go-to, their bahn mi, but was excited to get to try some other options on their menu. I'm a creature of habit and when I find one thing on a menu, it's often hard for me to stray away from it and try new things. Today I got "The Veggie" which comes with garlic mayo, sprouts, sliced provolone, cucumber, tomato, shredded lettuce, red wine vinaigrette on a toasted sourdough hoagie. It's a simple sandwich, but it packed so much deliciousness and freshness and flavor. It completely hit the spot today when I realized I hadn't had lunch yet and it was 3pm. The bread was perfectly equal parts crunchy (watch your mouth, it did cut up my mouth a little bit) and soft on the inside. The veggies were fresh and crunchy, the flavor and seasonings and mayo combined to make a deliciously fresh and tasty sandwich. Everything here is vegan and it's a walk up window teeny tiny little shop. You can order online or walk up to the window. I ordered at the window and my sandwich was ready in a matter of minutes. I found my new go-to even though I *should* try other things on their menu. Their pesto sub looks delicious, and they even have veggie cheesesteak, Italian cold cut, and BBQ sandwich with jackfruit - all 100% plant based. read more

What a shop! Not only does it offer affordable sandwiches that anyone (not just vegans) can enjoy, but half of the experience is seeing if my favorite workers are there to great me and make my day exponentially better. The reason I stop at Buds for a sandwich is because of Thom. what an excellent worker. He could make a coyote smile wider than a crescent moon. when I drive by, I hope that he is there so I can at least say howdy and maybe get coaxed into buying a sandwich. If Thom is not in, then it's Parker who takes over! shes got such a sparkle, it's enough to make the Milky Way jealous. and boy oh boy what a day it is when both are working! Insane sandwiches you would never guess they were vegan! So filling and fresh i crave these sandwiches. Theres so much flavor and the bread is flakey and fluffy. The shop is a cute little window station with some outdoor seating available. Highly recommend checking them out! read more

1. Get a cookie. They're always worth it. 2. Everyone has their own favorite sandwich here so I recommend trying a few! I'm obsessed with the Philly cheesesteak here (as weird as it sounds it's so good!) My friends and I love Buds and will keep coming back for meetups. The outdoor seating is wonderful in the warmer months, but it makes it tough when the weather get's cooler but the sandwiches travel well! Staff is friendly, and there's always fun music while ordering. Overall - it's a great sandwich shop! read more

I want to start by saying this food is not only enjoyed by those who are vegetarian and vegan, but it is also enjoyed by heavy meat eaters as well! The flavors are perfectly balanced, and their portions are excellent. The staff is friendly and happy to answer questions about the different options. The seating area is covered, which is a plus both in the heat and snow, yet there is still a good amount of light to create an ideal, peaceful atmosphere. Thank you, Buds! read more

I'm accustomed to the vegan tax - paying more for less. When I saw the sub-$10 prices I was worried that the sandwiches would be tiny - I almost ordered two. I was happily surprised to get a big bahn mi that I almost couldn't finish. Delicious! Remarkably nice guy serving as well. read more

My boyfriend and I were visiting SLC and received a recommendation from our friend who frequently visits the area to check out Buds. It did not disappoint. We are not vegan but enjoy trying new food. We shared a cheesesteak and it was so delicious! If we come back to the area, we'll definitely return to try other sandwiches. However, just a tip, I would recommend placing an online order for pickup and eating in the patio area so you don't have to wait as long for your order. We waited about 20 min on a hot day. read more

Vegan or not, this is one of the best sandwiches you'll ever have. My husband and I went vegan for a month a while ago and discovered this place, well we're not vegan anymore, but we crave it so much we keep coming back its that good! Their made-in-house products and delicious bread really are the cherry on top, and the price is stellar. Cannot reccomend this place enough! read more

Buds is so good! So happy to find an all-vegan sandwich shop! My favorite is definitely the Cheesesteak with pesto and the zucchini cookie which is made fresh daily. The first time we ordered from Buds, the bread was a bit too stiff but we ate the sandwich 30 minutes after receiving it. So the sandwich is best eaten immediately to keep the freshness of the bread. Due note, there is always a line and about a 20-30 minute wait outside with no dining space. The outside dining space is closed. Best to order ahead of time online so it's a quick pickup. Overall, love this place! read more

This place is downright addictive! We tried if once about a month ago and have been back several times since! The Buffalo chikun sandwich is amazing and the aioli is to die for. Even the baby can't get enough of it. Today, my 7 year old got the taco salad and said he'd definitely order it again. Thanks for the amazing food! The only thing I can ask is for an option in the online ordering for just bread, and to have it cut into strips. Just because we make a long drive to get there and usually picnic with the food so it makes it easier for feeding the baby. But that would be icing as your food is amazing. read more

This is my second time getting sick from their food! Overall good sandwich's but I'm not risking it anymore. I also don't like that they ask you verbally for a tip before you even get my order. This is a take out joint and you order through a covered window to a most of the time unfriendly person. Several times I've tipped and my order was wrong. Just increase the price of your sandwich's if they're in that much need of more money. I'm getting tired of pressured tipping. read more

I hadn't visited for quite awhile because their hours are so limited. Also, I live out of town and don't like eating in my car, but Bud's is take-out only. Finally got a chance to visit again the other day, and they still make a good sandwich, but it looks like they've gotten smaller ~ can't say for sure. The menu also seems to have fewer choices. Still, the next time the stars align I'll go again; the food is just that good. read more

I don't know about you, but a soaking wet bun is just gross. I'm certain that their seitan is great and I just picked wrong, so I do look forward coming back and enjoying better bun integrity.

Whenever I go out to eat with people, they always say, "Well, I know what El is having," because I always get fries with my food. But theirs are surprisingly amazing. Fries are usually just "fine" or "good," but theirs? They're very good. The owner is incredibly kind, and their baked goods are fantastic -- especially the peanut butter brownie, which I can't recommend enough. Their soft serve is also really good, and I'm excited to try some of their candy next time. I even took a non-vegan friend there, and he really enjoyed the food. Beyond the food, the team is so nice, and they have a little vegan market with some really cool products. I bought about half a pound of vegan bacon from them, and now I'm making all kinds of breakfast sandwiches at home. If you're in the area, whether you're vegan or not, Sweet Hazel is a must-visit. And if you can't stop by in person, their partner company Break Free Candy ships their sweets, which is awesome. Seriously, if you order anything from the menu, make it the peanut butter brownie. I was sad they had to move, but am so glad we still have this amazing vegan restaurant! Plenty of free parking.

Because they use cheap low quality canola oil and it shows both on the palate and in the body. But the deeper issue isn't just what's in the food. It's what's rotting beneath the surface. A close friend of mine Brittney (17 and under age in this experience) reached out to the owner to explore a collaborative business opportunity. Instead of professionalism she was met with a shocking invitation to hot tub together. Completely inappropriate and wildly unprofessional. Even more disturbing are the longstanding sexual allegations against kitchen staff he's kept on for years. Employees are routinely fired often for things they didn't do while the owner claims surveillance cameras prove it. Yet those cameras never seem to catch actual wrongdoing. Convenient isn't it. Meanwhile he creates a culture of fear instability and dismissal. People are disposable. Boundaries are not respected whether in the kitchen or in conversation. This isn't just a bad dining experience. This is a pattern of neglect abuse of power and willful ignorance. I urge you support businesses that respect people, employees, customers and community. This is not one of them.

Another table that ordered after me was served first, and when my food finally arrived, the biscuits were unfortunately very undercooked--pretty raw in the middle. I was starving, so I ate them anyway rather than wait even longer, but it was disappointing. The vegan cookie I got wasn't very good either--kind of dry and bland--but again, I ate it because I was really hungry. The biggest issue, though, was the group of five people loudly rehearsing a play at full volume right in the middle of the restaurant. I totally respect the arts and love that people are creating things--but the entire time, they were projecting their lines as loudly as possible. It was impossible to read or relax. I was quietly working on finalizing the publication of my novella, and even though I was doing something creative too, I managed to do it respectfully and silently from my seat. I really think a different venue--or at the very least, a lower volume--would have made a big difference for everyone else there. That said, I'd still be willing to give this place another shot. The food has a lot of potential, and I think with a little more structure and a quieter atmosphere, it could be a great spot.

I first came to Bud's a bit reticent: my girlfriend had told me that it was vegan food, and like the good carnivore I am, I nearly vetoed her decision. But oh boy am I glad I didn't, because now I've found my new favorite sandwich spot in SLC! The first thing that hits your palate is the sourdough: a chewy exterior which then seeps into a tender foamy center. Next are the spices; the harshness of the buffalo sauce is perfectly complimented by the mild herb aioli underneath. And then, at the center, is the chewy jackfruit: textured so wonderfully I now prefer it to chicken! The take away is this: if you're doubting Bud's because its vegan, think again. If someone as meat-loving as I can fall in love with vegan food, I'm sure you can too! read more

I love this place! It has recently been renovated and word on the street is that they are looking to expand the current building, which would be awesome. There are only a couple picnic tables right out front, which isn't the greatest on cold days. Parking can sometimes suck as spaces are pretty limited during the lunch rush. Everything is sooo good, the salads are amazing, the burrito with cheez is my favorite. The buffalo sandwich and the deli classic are my runners-up. DON'T FORGET A COOKIE!!!!! read more

When a business will NOT ACCEPT CASH the actual money of our land, and extorts you to go through a middle man (credit/debt) to spend your money something is wrong. This business will not get my money unless they accept it in CASH even a crypto option would be partially acceptable. I would probably literally starve to death if it were not for this fine establishment. Of my two places of work, only one is near a Bud's and I end up eating cold soup out of a can most of my lunches because the other food places in the area are nary worth going to. When I get to go to my other workplace, I shower myself with pizza steaks and those delicious zucchini cookies. Imma gunna need a Buds over by my other shop. Love you guys. read more

After months of anticipation for their reopening, I must say that I now despise the food here. The bread is too hard, the burritos are disgustingly mushy, and none of the food has pleasant flavors. I don't know what happened during those six months they were closed, but I can say that it was NOT good. I was skeptical when I heard of Buds using jack fruit as a meat substitute, but after I tried the barbacoa burrito I'm a believer. The texture was just like biased beef. All in all it was wonderful. I haven't actually tried the food I would have one day but some asshole that appeared to be the owner, was complaining that I was riding my bike on the sidewalk and I said whatever to him and he yelled that " your just a criminal anyway!!"
