I am actually incredibly impressed with this place. I think that they have some of the best Mediterranean bowls available in the area. The portion sizes are amazing. I did come during the lunch rush so they were very friendly but definitely understaffed. It felt like we waited about 25 minutes to get our two bowls and fries. I would recommend coming here either 20 minutes before your usual lunchtime or 20 minutes after because once it slowed down their service improved. I absolutely love the bar top. I think it's a good vibe if you're having a casual lunch by yourself. And I like their beer offering also. read more

Spitz is a casual Greek spot where you order inside, receive a number, and the food is brought out to your table. We tried the traditional lamb gyro, the lamb street wrap, and also sampled the falafel with hummus. Everything was excellent-flavorful and fresh. They do have an outdoor seating area; it's not very large, with space for about five tables, but it was enough for us to enjoy dinner outside. Luna relaxed by our side while we ate, making it a comfortable and pet-friendly stop. read more

I absolutely love Spitz. I think they do such a good job with just about everything. It is a counter service. The menu is so good with something for everyone. I went with a group today, and someone with us is gluten free. She really appreciated that there was a specific spot on the menu for gluten free items. She ended up ordering the gluten free remix bowl. She really liked the texture of the crispy garbanzos and loved the whole bowl overall. My husband got the street cart doner wrap and liked it. He got it with the beef and lamb. He liked the flavor on the meat but felt like the portion size could've been better. He got a Pilsner beer and thought it was good. I got the street cart fries with both kinds of fries. These are actually so so good! I think moving forward I would get just the sweet potatoes fries because I like those ones a lot more. The soda fountain is behind the counter which I didn't totally love, but you can go up and ask for as many refills as you'd like. Their Diet Coke brew was INCREDIBLE!! They also have self serve water dispensers. Highly recommend!! read more

Spitz has pioneered an upscale quick-service restaurant concept that combines the food quality, ambiance and customer service typically found in upscale dining with the price and speed most often associated with fast food. This means that nearly everything, from the kebab to the sauces is made daily in-house. The ambiance, from the music to the art, is unique and inspiring. And customer service, from greeting to goodbye is sincere. With these principals as a guide, we transformed a European street food into a flavorful, fresh and healthy culinary sensation and are excited to bring it to the Salt Lake Valley.

History

Established in 2007.

Josh Hill and Tanner Slizeski have been dreaming about bringing the Döner kebab (pronounced duh-ner keh-bob) back to Utah for years. Both of them first experienced the deliciousness of the Döner while studying abroad in Europe, and seeing the success their childhood friend Bryce Rademan has had opening several Spitz locations around Los Angeles they knew that Utah needed the amazing combination of Döner kebab, fresh veggies, craft beer, unique mixed drinks and sangria that Spitz is famous for. Bryce and his business partner Robert Wicklund built the first European-style Doner Kebab restaurant in Los Angeles, and in so doing, they raised the bar on all upscale quick-service eateries. Josh and Tanner are proud to be bringing the Spitz concept and everything it stands for to Utah, and are determined to insure that the food quality, ambiance and customer service will never be sacrificed. Nearly everything is made in house daily and we'll rotate our taps and bottles weekly. Come in today!

The server was kind of stumbling over his words when he described it and until it arrived I wasn't sure if it was going to be New England clam chowder or Manhattan. He proclaimed that it was the best clam chowder you'll ever get at a Middle Eastern restaurant and I can't really argue about that. The Beef Shawarma is served in a wrap that is open at both ends and cut in half. They put a small portion of pickled items on the plate and dust everything with sumac powder. The beef is thinly sliced. I really didn't enjoy the flavor. The greens in the wrap were extremely bitter and in my opinion it made for an unpleasant flavor. Maybe I just got extra bitter greens on mine but it was overwhelming everything else. I didn't like that the wrap was open, I had to lean over my plate as I ate because the sauce was dripping out and I didn't want to get it on my clothes. Eventually I gave up and used my fork to pull the meat out of the other half so that I could avoid the bitterness. The Musakhen (that's how it is spelled on the menu) was also a wrap. I tried a bite and I liked that better than the beef Shawarma but I still didn't really like something about the flavor. The fries were nicely crispy and fresh but there is a seasoning on them that really wanted to be on my fingers more than it wanted to be on the fries or my napkin. Like no matter how hard I tried to wipe it off there was still some of it on my fingers. Once again there was something about the flavor I didn't really like. My wife eventually offered up some of the aioli and it made it a little better but once again I didn't really like the flavor of the aioli. So for whatever reason the flavors there just aren't for me. My wife on the other hand was very excited about everything and was talking about all the things she was going to try the next time we visited. I didn't want to be a negative bummer during the meal but I was thinking she was going to have to come back with someone other than me. The restaurant is nice and they have very good service. There were a few other tables of large groups and it seems like this is a place that works well for get togethers. Parking is not adequate at all. We got a spot but only because we got there at 4:50 for dinner. I overheard other people talking about the trouble they had finding a spot.

Such a little gem of a restaurant. I personally adore a place that hasn't been renovated and still…read morecarries its original character, and The Other Place provides that exact charm. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with my dish. I ordered the chef's breakfast with poached eggs, and it was one big pile of deliciousness. Not to be confused with "The Pile" on their menu, which my friend ordered and claims is his go to. We were served attentively and our cups were never empty! Would love to return to this spot again.

The menu has lots of choices of and their dinner items is really a complete meal! We loved the gyro it came with 2 sides - chose the dinner salad and fries Hamburger steak was good , could have used some brown gravy to bring it to perfection It came with a baked potato salad and dessert! We'll be back for sure
