You can really taste the ingredients which is such a plus for me as too many ingredients in a sandwhich can get muddy. - They had a special butternut squash soup with calabrian chili which was phenomenal. At only $3 it was a perfect side for winter. CONS: - Pricey. I think at this price point if it added a bag of chips or some time of fruit or a small little side or maybe a can of soda included it would be a perfect meal and a very reasonable price point. Deadpan was on the top of my to-visit list during my recent first visit to Woodbine food hall. I had noticed Deadpan from some foodie articles and accounts - amazingly, they decided to keep their business going due to the massive support they received when they announced their closure a few months ago. The owner was kind and helped me pick between the two sandwiches I was being indecisive about - the Oh Schnitzel and the Hot Chopped Cheese. He asked if I could handle spicy and I said yes. I let him choose a sandwich for me between the two and he chose the Hot Chopped Cheese and said he thinks I'd enjoy it. He described it as a sandwich with chopped-up cheeseburger fillings inside, and they use a lamb and beef patty instead of just beef. Right, he was. I thoroughly enjoyed the sandwich and the meat was spiced and slightly spicy, but nothing I couldn't handle. The sandwich was flavorful, and I'm impressed that the bread wasn't too thick because sometimes places serve sandwiches with way too much bread-to-filling ratio. The bread was also a nice texture, I'm glad it wasn't too toasty or crunchy like some sandwiches can get that rub the roof of my mouth raw. I felt like I had a well-balanced meal out of the Chopped Cheese. Flavor-packed meat, cheese, veggies, bread - that's all you need. The food was delicious, and I don't doubt that the rest of the items on the menu taste great, but the prices feel high, yes, even in this economy. I say this because I was able to finish this sandwich and still felt I had room to eat some more, perhaps a little snack. I almost always cannot comfortably finish my food in one sitting when dining out, so that was a sign to me that this wasn't all that much food, and I could tell from the get-go because the sandwich did look small. read more

Deadpan sandwich has been on my list of places to try for a while. I was able to stop in one evening while visiting woodbine, and knew I had to try them out. At the recommendation of the staff, I tried the Italian beef. I was pretty impressed with the quality of sandwich, and would definitely try it again. It had plenty of flavor and was pretty balanced Overall I enjoyed my sandwich, though slightly more expensive than expected. I would say that the sandwich is an average size, but I would probably get a side to fill me up, which would cost around $20 after tax. I loved the Oh Schnitzel sandwich so much. However, my boyfriend had the Italian Beef and was not a fan. There were interesting large chunks of veggies that were not exactly seasoned and did not go with the flavor of the rest of the sandwich. They pulled this little trick with their BLT where they add pickled tomatoes. Do this you'll be glad. I am of the belief that the power of bacon is right up there. This place was a pleasant surprise. I didn't have very high expectations, but I'm glad I went. The Oh Schnitzel! sandwich was a great combination of flavors! Whoa, talk about service with a smile! Went into their take-out location in sugar house and ordered from the kiosks only to find out there was no one there working. I called out a few times to see if anyone could hear me, but no reply. Waited ten minutes since I had already paid, when a seemingly very grumpy, surly, bearded gentleman came in to make my order. Asked him as nice as I possibly could, how long it would take since I had run out of time while waiting. I guess this made him upset? I dunno. But boy was he rude after that. Small piece of advice to this business: don't have someone from back of the house work front of the house too, they don't have the disposition for it and then you lose customers like myself. read more

While the sandwich was good, the hour and five minute wait was not. Others were also waiting more than an hour for food.

Instead of adding a new sandwich to the menu y'all went and changed the turkey melt to a turkey club and it is nowhere near as good. I use to order the turkey melt almost weekly. I had their Grilled Kimcheese last week and I'm still dreaming about it (spaced on taking a picture because I didn't even take a breath between bites). I'll also say if you aren't usually a kimchi person, don't let that ingredient scare you because it's delicious. Today, I had the B.L.O.T. and was equally impressed with that sandwich. The Hot Philly Pork tastes like a classic american meal wrapped into a sandwich with a spicy twist (there is some actual spice so if you're a spice person, get this and if you're not just ask for the chili oil on the side). Truly doesn't seem like you can go wrong with the food here. The atmosphere is casual, clean, and spacious. Plenty of sitting options and the staff were professional, helpful, and friendly.
