All of the old and amazing providers are gone. The previous owner should be held partly responsible for selling this community medical center to a complete fraudster. The office is nearly always closed. There is literally only 1 person on staff two days a week - who isn't even a medical doctor, but a psychologist (hence the "Dr." title). Even she is leaving in a couple of weeks. They hired literally a brand new med school grad to be the provider once she's gone. Oh yay. They do not answer the phone. Front desk staff admitted that they "aren't always able to answer the phone" when explaining why I always got the owner's voicemail when I called. When I asked why the voicemail box is always full, I was told that they "don't have the password to the mailbox" so that's why no one can leave a message. So, it's near impossible to get anyone on the phone, make an appointment, get lab or imaging results, or receive any kind of adequate care. Gross negligence here. It's truly shocking and also illegal to abandon your patients (we're looking at you, Myra Howard. PS Myra - PLEASE for the love of god give them the password to the voicemail box?!). To the new owner - can you PLEASE pull it together and stop being so shady? Why are you in this business? If you didn't want to serve this community, you shouldn't have bought the business. Worst experience ever. i waited outside since I was so sick. They literally forgot about me then gave me some lame excuse that they were all busy when I finally went inside to see if someone would help me. The NP asked me what I wanted her to do???? Um, how about an exam??!!! I had to ask her to listen to my heart and chest to be sure I didn't have pneumonia. I repeated the same symptoms to her that I had just told the assistant. She rushed me off and then left me sitting outside waiting. The medical assistants were typical and didn't know a thing about anything. I had to refill out the paperwork that had to be submitted online before I went in. And when I arrived early as instructed and called to say I was there so I didn't come in and contaminate anyone, they weren't even open yet. Go elsewhere...anywhere. He is very thorough, and always gives me a written summary of what we talked about and what I should be doing. He's also a really great person and relates on a personal level which is such a plus. I recently contracted poison oak, it ended up getting so bad I had a hard time walking. I came to the Medical Center and was helped immensely. Dr. Valin immediately dished out some spray for the effected areas and quickly wrote out a prescription that later turned out to be exactly what I needed to get rid of the poison. I was sent here for a pre-op on a Thursday. Labs had been ordered by my surgeon and had been processed in advance. I asked Dr. Franco and other office staff about the labs at my appointment and was told " we don't have them." I let them know that Pacific Diagnostic did them. Dr. Franco sent me for an EKG. The next day, receptionist from Buellton Medical called me and said Dr. Franco wanted me to go to my primary for a second opinion because my EKG was abnormal. I had tons of questions, but the poor gal on the phone was just a messenger. My main problem with all of this is that the doctor didn't call me to at least discuss my EKG results with me. Also, how do I get a second opinion without a first opinion? So I called them back on Monday and at least got to talk to a nurse. I inquired about the labs again. She said " they never sent them to us." I then said "so you contact the lab!" She said my surgeon's office ordered them, so THEY need to send them to Buellton Medical. I've been to a lot of doctors where the staff track things down! So I had a pre-op where labs weren't reviewed and the doctor never called me about my abnormal EKG. This place is very unprofessional. This place is a joke. I went to CVS to pick up a prescription and they told me my provider, Beth Simmons from The Buellton Medical Center, had not refilled my prescription. When I call the Buellton Medical center they informed me that Beth no longer works there and had been gone since April and no one had called me to inform me that the person I see is gone. I could have used that time to find some one new. Simmons would always give either 1 or 0 refills and every month so the pharmacy and I would have to call the center to get my prescription and I would be out of my prescription for a couple of days. Here I am again going on my fourth day with no blood pressure medication. So unprofessional. read more

I went to get a physical today, my employer sent me here so it was my first time there. The girl in the front was really nice, then I went in the back to get a test done and get a TB shot and the girl was so cool, she made me feel so comfortable there and she was so sweet! Then I met the doctor and she was amazing, she was seriously the best dr I've come across! she answered all my questions and made me feel very comfortable. I love it here! read more

No open appoints for the day. walked in but they said they had no availability when the website says walk in avail. My father was a general practitioner and would have never responded to a patient like they do. Went in to get refills of established prescriptions, nurse practitioners we unable to prescribe my usual meds so I'm told I have to come back in a week to see someone else (when I will be long out of my medications that I need daily) and pay ANOTHER copay, when I already informed the office of what I needed. Ridiculous, I will not be returning. Dr. VanValin apparently can't prescribe my medication anymore, presumably because of an investigation (which he mentioned last time I was there). Not reliable, not good care. Avoid this place if possible. read more

Went in on a Thursday night and they said they accepted my insurance since it's a ppo but they couldn't take me until the following day although I was quite sick and they didn't close for an hour. They copied my insurance and and said I'd be ready to go at 845 next day. I arrived early and waited two hours. they asked for my card again. I was so sick. They then said I had a hmo which I don't. Wouldn't take me wanted cash and for a " courtesy" would bill my insurance. I paid cash, waited another 45 minutes. Diagnosed with a severe infection . The nurse Myrah? Was very good so that's why not one star. They never billed my insurance and I'm out almost $200. Go to Lompoc or Santa Barbara instead. read more

I love Buellton Med Center. It's like the old-fashioned doctor's offices my parents took me to when I was a kid; small, personable, low-cost and friendly. Dr. Van Valin aka "Dr. Barney" is a life saver and a ROCK STAR. I had hypothyroid for years and was never diagnosed until I saw him. I am now on the right medication and dosage and feel GREAT! The only reason I didn't give Buellton Med. Ctr. a 5 star rating is the staff doesn't check their voice mail and return phone calls. read more

I have been a patient of Buellton Medical Center for many, many years. Frankly, I am really surprised by the previous poster's one star review, because the folks at BMC are some of the nicest, caring and friendliest people I have ever dealt with. I have been seen by Dr. Van Valin, and Myra Howard, NP. They are both awesome, offering up just the right amount of compassion and concern, while LISTENING to their patients. The clinic is very clean and well run, appointments are usually on time, especially when you consider most doctors will make you wait forever, and they have some of the gentlest vampires (phlebotomists) I have ever encountered. I can't say enough about how much I like the folks at BMC. I am a person who detests going to the doctor for any reason, but the staff makes something I really hate much more pleasant. I would not hesitate to make an appointment there. I highly recommend them. A+ read more

Ever since Dr. Van Valin passed away, the medical center has turned into a place of ignorant, rude, biased staff that do not listen to your medical problems. Jose who is supposedly in charge of prescription management is never available to talk to and if by chance you do get a hold of him, he will lie about refills to cover himself. Dr. Joshi is hands down the worst doctor I've ever met. He ignores you completely and prescribes the wrong medications. He also takes phone calls and deals with other patients' paperwork while "treating" you. This is a clear breach of patient confidentiality and malpractice. Be weary when he tries to prescribe experimental brain washing medications to you. I am filing a malpractice suit against him. As a multi generation resident of the Santa Ynez valley, this is disturbing to see. I urge everyone to be cautious if you decide to go to them and be prepared for the lack of hospitality and lack of any diagnosis at all. read more

Usually Ive had good luck but today was an exception. Somehow in my sleep my jaw dislocated (it sucks getting old) and its very painful. I haven't been able to eat anything but smoothies for 4 days. Since its not getting any better I went in around 10am Saturday. Jasmin said I could come back Monday afternoon if I wanted. With the height of flu season this year, it seemed impossible to get an appointment anywhere and the wait at Urgent Care Sansum was over 2 hours every day. I went on a limb and called this place; I have a toddler and did not want to infect him. I was able to get an appointment the same day and they were very prompt in seeing me. I saw Nurse Practitioner Sherrie Gibson and would definitely recommend her: she was very kind, observant and really took time to diagnose my illness. My prescriptions were called in and ready for me by the time I got into my car to leave! She gave me treatment that was effective and I am very appreciative! Thank you!!! read more

I am so seriously disappointed by Buellton Medical Center right now that I feel compelled to share my experience so that others may know what they're getting themselves into if they choose to place the trust of their own or loved ones' health in the "care" of this facility. First off, Dr. Van Valin is a joke. Least professional medical practitioner I ever encountered with zero bedside manner and a complete lack of compassion. As a result, I began seeing Myra, a nurse practitioner, there instead of Dr. Van Valin for my regular visits which my particular medication needs require in order to get refills for my prescription. I've been seeing her for a few years now and she's the one saving grace of this place. If it wasn't for her, I'd have run from this place years ago without looking back. But her compassion and professionalism kept me coming back. And this is even despite the fact that I'd regularly have to wait anywhere from 15-30 minutes AFTER my scheduled appointment time to be taken to an exam room and then another 15-30 minutes sitting in there alone waiting for her. In spite of the inconvenience of waiting, it's been comforting to have someone "in my corner" that I felt I could trust wholeheartedly. That is, right up until today when I called to make an appointment and was told that she is no longer contracted with insurance and so I would therefore need to pay in cash for my visit, amounting to over twice my usual copay. The receptionist who took my call showed absolutely zero care or compassion whatsoever. When I said it would have been nice to have been notified ahead of the time I actually needed to make an appointment, she said "they posted it and notified patients". Yet when I pointed out that I've been a patient of Myra's for a few years now and never received any notification whatsoever, and asked where "they posted" such a notification, instead of responding out of a genuine concern and care for a regular patient, she brushed me off and rushed me to decide on whether I wanted the appointment being offered or not with, and this is no joke, a very dismissive "Do you want the appointment or not?" Seriously?!?! That's how you treat your patients?!?! And when I said maybe I should find somewhere else to start going to, she literally couldn't possibly have cared any less. Despite the fact that I've been a patient there for years. And this isn't the first time I've had a questionable experience with their receptionists but given the challenges of that particular job I've mostly found a way to forgive past issues. But this was definitely the last straw. If you have a choice, I recommend seriously considering an alternative as I now will be doing, albeit with a heavy heart given how great Myra was. If only the rest of the place could get their act together...but alas, I see no sign of that in the near future. read more

You get to position yourself on my shoulder and listen in on our conversations as we spent time in his home and in mine. Though not released yet, I have had it translated into Japanese and Spanish and from the input I have received to date I need to also translate it into Italian, Chinese, German and French. The time and expense of such translations is actually exhausting on any number of levels. I had no idea what I was taking on when I started this but I love the education it has given me. Just try building a book yourself on Create Space in order to get if to a printable book form on Amazon and you'll see what I mean. From the delightful feedback I have recieved to date I would say it was well worth it. I must apolpgize about the price but it wasn't my choice. I wanted it to be much cheaper but Amazon sets the price. Every little thing you want to do is another charge. Printing the front cover in color was expensive, not to mention the spine and back cover! I thought this was an urgent care but it isn't. Despite having an appointment I waited two hours to be seen. I could actually hear the staff joking around and finally asking if the Dr had checked on the girl in room 4. Once diagnosed, the electronic prescription was never sent to the pharmacy, even though the dr knew I was in pretty intense pain for an ear infection and needed to start antibiotics. I called 4 times today and was shuffled off to various voicemails since was no one was capable or available to get the prescription sent. I never received a call back and eventually resorted to having a pharmacist call them to get a verbal prescription, a full extra day of suffering later. In general everyone was polite enough, but it doesn't appear to be a well run center. I could understand a glitch or two but could not believe how aloof the administrative staff were today. I am having surgery next Wednesday. My doctors asked if I could get an EKG prior to the pre-op on Tuesday. I called Buellton Medical Center for an appointment for an EKG explaining that I had surgery on Wednesday. The gal on the phone said "don't I need a blood workup also." I said that my doctor only asked for an EKG then she scheduled the appointment. When I went in today I was told they will do the EKG only on a cash-out basis. I asked why as I was with Blue Cross/Blue Shield California and Buellton Medical Center has always taken that insurance before. The Manager at the medical center was brusk and only re-iterated that they will do an EKG on the cash out basis only. My encounter at Buellton Medical Clinic this morning was stressful and unpleasant and seeing as they were aware I am preparing for surgery they could have been more helpful and courteous and could have gone ahead with the EKG because a member of their staff made an appointment for that procedure. read more
