So my friend and I planned a friends date and she suggested this restaurant. I got there first and ordered a margarita and Paloma. Both drinks were delicious! The owner (Ralph) was there that evening and spent some time at our table just chatting with us! It was such a nice change of pace to be able to actually vibe with the owner of the establishment. So much so that he ordered for us! I apologize in advance for not naming what we got, but I didn't know what he ordered for us... but let me tell you... EVERYTHING was delicious! This is one of my favorite restaurants! It's been a while since I've had it and wow! It did not disappoint! It's just as good as the first time I tried it! I had the Roca Shrimp and Raw Ceviche, it was so delicious and flavorful! The sauce on the shrimp was perfect. I took my order to-go and usually it taste different then when you dine-in vs eating it at home but, it was still just as good! They give you plenty of tostadas and crackers for the ceviche. I was confused but didn't sent it back we were hungry 7/10 sauce was sweet tempura batter was heavy and didn't have a good texture. wouldn't order this again. Next up was the bacon wrapped shrimp. Shrimp were OK the double puddle of liquid beans and a super mushy rice pilaf was nothing to write home about 5/10 looks depressing a sea of brown. Ate the shrimp didn't touch the rest. Comedy show had a slow start but it picked up steam and was actually funny. The vibes were good Makers neat you can mess up unless it's in a dirty cup. I still ordered 2 more those were good. I will begin on the positive side about this place: The fish tacos and the pulpo y camarón cóctel (shrimp and octopus cocktail) had good flavor. The octopus was very tender and the shrimp was bigger than what I've had in cocktails before. Now the cons: Service is horrible. Staff is not friendly nor attentive. No one came over to our table and asked if all was fine throughout the meal. The shrimp was not cleaned(deveined). My tacos were served in a very small plate, when I bit them food got all over the table. I don't think we're going to be back. Gratuity is according to the service provided. I can't rave enough about Buena Mesa. This place is such a gem. I haven't tried one thing I don't LOVE. The perfectly cooked and seasoned octopus keeps me coming for more. They have some authentic Sinaloa flavors (at the right price) that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. *chefs kiss* The staff is very nice and attentive. Service was great and for a Friday night, it was pretty empty. I brought my gf for her birthday and got us the Tomahawk steak with asparagus and mashed potatoes on the side. The sides were delicious along with a salad but the Tomahawk was undercooked. We requested it medium rare but the deeper we went, the more raw it was, I mean, very raw that we had to take it to go and re-cook it at home. To conclude, customer service was great but the food was ok. I'll give it another shot and hopefully I turn this place into a 5 star restaurant. read more

Oh Buena Mesa, you made me super happy. My stepson and nephew joined us for dinner here. They were wanting something touristy. Ya, that is so not happening when you go on vacation with me. Food: My nephew and stepson are what I like to call "conformers" They like what the popular vote is. They didn't even want to try something different. (Let's just say they wanted to try Chik fil a instead because they heard it was good. REALLY?! nope. sorry not when I'm in the car) ANYWAY, our food came with complimentary chips and salsa. I don't think my nephew gets out much. He ate most it. Our food came, and It was priceless to see my nephew and stepson scarfing down like they've never eaten. They were loving their tacos and chowing down on MY appetizers. They LOVED it. The Torre Especial was this tower of ceviche love! yum yum yum! The only thing that was good about the place was the server, super great service. The Callo de Hacha was old, tasted like tap water. I had to spit it back into my napkin. By far thee most disgusting place to eat at. They literally take the concept of raw sea food seriously. Feels like the ocean or the river bed to restaurant on a plate. Could not eat the food at all and most importantly not worth the price. Ordered a michelada which tasted like sewer water and the Clamato mix was not all there. Beer was flat and entirely not appealing. Next ordered the tostada de ceviche de camarón with is essentially raw with just pepino, onion and tomato. Not flavorful at all. Ordered the aguachiles which was overly salted and again RAW. Let them sit on the table for about half an hour to see if they would cook in the aguachiles sauce; that was little to none. After half an Hour nothing cooked, tasted them and realized that my sodium level spiked because it tasted overly salted. Whoever is writing the reviews on this place is lying to the extreme. The only reason why this place has a 1 star is because the servicer was good and attentive. Would never come to this place again, no wonder why the turn over rage of this location is so high, nothing but bad restaurants occupy this space read more

And they seem to have hundreds of black widow spiders all over the patio area but the staff does not seem to mind them. I got itching just sitting outside. And the food was not what I expected also. Hard to put into words what a letdown this place was. The Sinaloan influence isn't hard to miss, from Chalino's hits of yesteryear to the torres de mariscos on the menu. This clashes conspicuously with the restaurant setting and decor, which is decidedly hip and trendy. I get a feeling the owners want to appeal to the older Mexican crowd while simultaneously bringing in their children, but the combination of styles just doesn't work. It really just feels like the place doesn't know what it wants to be. The food was bland. Terribly, terribly bland. Salt shakers, mariscos-appropriate salsa bottles, lemon slices, all nowhere to be found. I had to ask for these items specifically, since the food was so lacking in flavor. This wouldn't be such a big complaint if our torre wasn't an outrageous...get this...$36!!! Even with my measured expectations I was sorely let down. Last Friday I had the much more humble Mariscos el Rey #2 on Tweedy blvd. I recommend that place much more over this one. read more

We have been ordering trays of shrimp ceviche and other catering from Buena Mesa for more than a year. We often call in an order for their small/medium charola for meals or even their large. Today, we ordered 2 of the small/medium trays for pick up--over $140 for the order--for 5 adults and anticipated leftovers. We noticed the trays seemed light and that they did not give us crackers or enough tostadas, but we left to meet family for our lunch plans. We were utterly shocked to open the trays and see them half full, light on shrimp, and soupy, with no avocado on top. We literally had to order pizza because we were all still hungry. The ceviche was barely an appetizer when we should've all been full and with with leftovers from what we know from previous orders. It was an utter rip-off, worth less than half of what we paid. My partner and I were literally making plans to come in to try more of the menu in the coming weeks--we're never coming back.
