Definitely lacks the ambience that the East Side location has, but all in all a very nice restaurant. I love the decor. Not bad for a date but better as a meal with parents or friends from out of town. Food is good, but I think the lunch menu is less impressive than dinner. They have many cold and hot sandwiches mostly, but the guys devoured their Milanesas. Empanadas always delicious and I love their Chimmichurri. Excellent desserts too. Lunch on New Year's Day is maybe not the best time to judge but our server kind of sucked. He was very nice but could not get a drink on the table to save his life, and we only needed water. Doesn't help that the open kitchen showed us that he was chatting it up with coworkers. Meh. I would go back but hands down the East Side location is where it's at. My friends and I came on a Tuesday night, knowing that it would be less busy than on 6th street and on the weekend. My first impression is that they had great light fixtures and a relaxing atmosphere. We had a great waiter who was very patient, attentive but not overly, and made great suggestions. Food- We started out with the empanadas and bread with pan seared cheese. The vegetarian empanada was superb and the chimichurri sauce was delicious! The combination of spices was perfect. The bread and pan seared cheese was good, but nothing spectacular. For entrees, we split the gnocchi and crepes with eggplant. The gnocchi were impressive; there were four flavors (don't remember the exact variety) but I think were chipotle, cinnamon sweet potato, spinach, and regular. They were larger than regular gnocchi, but delicious. The eggplant crepes were fantastic and came with a flavorful rose sauce and creamy bechamel. As they advertise a mean creme brulee, we had to try one. It was mexican chocolate and was just the right amount of spice, chocolate, and creaminess. The only downside was that the cocktails were not memorable, but overall, I was very satisfied and would go back again. read more

Having lived in Argentina, I look for these hidden gems around the country. It may be unfair, but I grade heavily on authenticity, if they are going to feature a specific cuisine like Argentine. This place nails the atmosphere and does pretty well with the food, too. I ordered a couple of appetizer empanadas, the "picante" and the "tuna", which were good, but not great. Though, I applaud the tuna option, which I had never had before. I had the Milanesa Neopolitana, which is essentially a veal cutlet that is lightly crusted and pan-fried with ham and mozzarella on top. Also good and quite authentic. My server talked me into dessert, which was good, because the options took me back to my days in-country and those amazing single-serving fruit tartas. I had cherry and it melted in my mouth. I give them 4.5 stars, but had to round down to 4. I want to give places like this 5 stars, but in this case the round-down to 4 comes because the empanadas are not authentic. They are very good, but not what you would be offered at cafes in Buenos Aires. I would not discount the 5-star reviews offered by others, though, and I will return whenever again in the area - for sure. Riquisima! read more

Buenos Aires was an awesome, unexpected find. Bee Caves isn't on our short list of cool places to eat and drink, but when the place we were going down the road was unexpectedly closed, we turned to Yelp and found these guys. When I think Argentinian, I'm thinking flank steak and chimichurri, but that wasn't what we found. It was more like an interesting take on Italian, which we learned, thanks to an excellent history lesson from a waiter, was because Buenos Aires was settled by Italians. Anyway, we both had the medley of gnocchi, which had all these different flavored gnocchi with fresh veggies and a light, but super tasty sauce. This was so delicious, and so unique... I'm getting hungry at the memory. We topped off our meal with the recommended creme brulee... which was dark chocolate with cayenne... heavenly! Finally worth noting was the excellent service from our waitress, Pamela, and the other waiter who explained all about the Italian influence. read more

The Good: Empanadas were tasty, wrapped in flaky pastry, and come in many varieties. The chimichurri is da bomb. Caipirinha and pisco sours, classic south american drinks, were excellent, one sweet, simple, and refreshing, the latter a classy remake with the right amout of pucker. The Sad: Unlike others here, I did not dig the gnocci quartet... vegetables seemed defrosted, gnocci were too big, sauce was lukewarm and off-flavored, whole dish underwhelmed... It also came out too quickly, which is suspicious... Overall: This is the best joint so far that I've tried in this sloq upscale mall... I will return, sit outside on the patio, gobble up more empanadas and mixed drinks, and try the succulent-looking chicken al horno, but there are dishes to avoid here. read more

This was a great little find. We weren't sure what we wanted, so it seemed like a suitable time to try out Argentinian food when it showed up on Yelp. We started with drinks. My wife had the Mojito. She was not so impressed, but after adding a shot of rum she became very talkative and happy. I had a great Hendrick's Negroni. We split a nicely dressed salad, and waited in anticipation for our meats. We were not disappointed. My wife got "El Vaquero", a 15oz. bone-in Certified Angus Rib-eye. She loved it, especially after slavering it with the chimichurri sauce. I had the Parrillada, or mixed-grill. Truthfully, I have had better, but the chimichurri made up for it. It had a quail that was nothing special, sausage and both pork and beef tenderloin. The last two were very good, especially slathered in the chimichurri sauce. The sausage, or "chorizo" was a big disappointment. I think it was just a bratwurst. Pretty bland, and not what I was wanting. I was hoping for something spicy, like a good merguez. It also came with a pot of melted provolone with oregano, which my wife loved. The French fries were outstanding. The other sides were rather bland. The girls had some empanadas and the Shrimp Prosciutto. They were underwhelmed, but hey, they're eight and nine. The boy was happy eating pieces of meat from my plate. I think it was more of a three and half star visit, but the fact that it was out of the ordinary gives it that extra half star. It was about the same price as a good steak house, and maybe not quite as good. What sets it apart is the casual, yet classy, atmosphere and the chimichurri. Next time we should leave the kids at home, get a great bottle of wine, and concentrate on the chimichurri slathered beef products. read more

Wow, another great find thanks to yelp. Went in with the wife and had a very pleasant lunch on the (small) patio. The menu is very unique. I went for the Lomito Beef sandwich on a fresh french baguette. It comes with french fries. It was excellent! The meat was super tender and flavorful. The chimichurri sauce was great. And even though it is only french fries, they were excellent. My wife tried a number of things, all excellent. She got the soup of the day (cream corn with a bit of jalapeño), A chicken and a beef empinada with chimichurri sauce, and then just a traditional fresh salad. Everything was great. We finished it off with Quatro Leches (their take on the tres leches), again top notch. Certainly will be back again if we are ever down that way. read more

Bartender had to be flagged get a second drink. When dinner already served. Second time went for happy hour. Same bartender came We ordered a bottle of wine comes in set the bottle ready to open. Table next door asked him for something. Dumps the wine opener and leaves to close their bill My companion and I were almost ready to open our own bottle. We ordered a lot of tapas style plates. Table never got cleaned after we had finished. Another waiter ended up noticing since there was barely anybody by then. Really disappointing you go for a nice time to a restaurant. And you have to keep wondering and flagging staff to come look after you. As much as I like the food and drinks. There are plenty better options with staff that is engaged with their customers. I love the food here - especially the specials and the gnocchi for dinner and the soups and tenderloin sandwich at lunch, but the last 4 or 5 times we have gone, service has been horrible. One time we were stopping by for dessert - it was my birthday - and we waited at least 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge us at the hostess stand. The party ahead of us left, visably upset. The bartender and several waiters looked our way and knew we were waiting to be seated and even though there were open tables, nobody said a word and intentionally looked away when we tried to get eye contact. Finally one of the waiters sat us with no apology. Then another time, something similar happened. The impression was on this occassion, and others, that the wait staff was upset that they were short staffed. However, once a waiter is assigned the service is pretty good and very friendly. It's kind of a shame to end up at 2 stars on this place, because the food at the atmosphere are no-doubt five stars. Unfortunately, the people who work there - that includes bartenders, hostesses, wait staff, and even the catering manager (we had our wedding catered by BAC) - are consistently and disappointingly kind of awful. Over the course of a few years, at both locations, during both lunch and dinner, EVERY encounter we've had with a BAC employee or manager has left us kind of looking at each other in bewilderment. The food at our wedding was out of this world, but the catering manager so poorly handled the communication and planning side of things that she single-handedly cost my wife and I a stress-free wedding day. Makes you wonder. That being said, the food is ridiculously good. The ambiance is fantastic (we just listened to live cabaret-style music while dining the other night). Both are SO good that even though we've been let down time after time, we keep going back just hoping we'll have one semi-enjoyable human interaction to hang our hats on. Rant over. If you love original, delicious South American fare and believe that patience is a virtue, eat here. PS - my wife just pointed out two bright spots, Marcela (newly hired event planner) and Reina (chef). Excited to try a new restaurant and picked Buenos Aires Cafe but was sadly disappointed. The food took about 45 minutes to arrive. No one came to explain why the food was delayed. Not even the appetizer or the soda came. When we pointed out that the appetizer was going to be served along with the rest of the food, the manager showed attitude. No one was even refilling our water glass. When the bill came, we were charged for soda that never came. It was not a pleasant experience. The service was terrible. The food was just ok..not great. Always an amazing steak. Everything else is just meh. I've been here a number of times with friends and family, and recently returned after a hiatus of several months. The steak was great as usual, but the service left much to be desired. The first problem was being told that they don't take reservations except for large parties. That sounds more like Chuck E. Cheese than a nice steak place. Then, when we arrived, the host told us there would be a 15 minute wait - while I could see five empty tables. Not a promising sign. We sat at the bar to get some cocktails while we waited. Even though we were the only customers at the bar, the two bartenders ignored us for five. Then we got some menus and a wine list slapped down in front of us without a word spoken. Ten minutes later they decided to ask us if we wanted a drink. The amateurish service from the bar was the theme of the night and carried out through dinner. Food was delivered by a random server tossing it on the table and then running away before we could ask for anything. Water glasses were never refilled. We had to wave the waitress down to get salt and pepper, missing food items, etc. The only time she voluntarily returned to the table was to drop off the check. We all agreed our steaks were fantastic -it's the reason we come here. The side orders were hit or miss, and mostly miss. Asparagus, broccoli and the green beans all were mostly tasteless (why we desperately needed salt and pepper), mostly undercooked, and we suspected they were something that had been frozen and microwaved before service. I did think the roasted potatoes were nicely done and seasoned though. At least the band playing some light jazz was fantastic. I never saw a manager, and I suspect if he or she was present it was hiding away in an office in the back because the service was very unprofessional. We may not be back for a while - this place needs some work. read more

OMG delicious. I know their E 6st location is really popular, but this is a real gem for people who live further out in West Austin. It's tucked away in the Hill Country Galleria, but it's a nice little corner restaurant with an outside patio. I'd never had Argentinian cuisine before, and I was almost convinced to move down there after eating at this restaurant. My new favorite spice is chimichurri. And they sell it so you can take a container home with you. Oh god I could put that on everything. I had the pork chop and I could cut it with a fork. The Empanadas are also very delicious. In terms of dining experience, the place felt nice, the service was prompt, experienced and friendly and the food was excellent. I will be eating here again! read more

Buenos Aires Cafe is a well-executed, consistent Argentine cafe with a bit of cross-over into American- and Italian-inspired dishes. Always comfortable, a little over-the-top in terms of seasoning and a bit more focused on prep than ingredient quality, this is still absolutely a place to add to the dinner out rotation in the Bee Cave/Lakeway area. What works: - Flaky, spicy, classic and flavorful empanadas start the meal off right. Go with the picante. - Truly excellent and traditional desserts. The alfajores are among the best I have had in Central Texas. - Bold (if a bit exaggerated) flavors, and a good chimichurri make it an exciting dining experience on nearly all menu items What doesn't work: - A disappointing Pastel de Papas, in my opinion. I found the meat to be very dry when I had it the dish, and the flavor seemed to rely completely on the seasoning. - A fairly ordinary wine list. Argentina has so many excellent and underrepresented options that it's a shame this wasn't more of a focus of the restaurant. - Steak dishes are, as elsewhere, flavorful but of middling quality. I went here a few weeks back on the recommendations of friend that lives in the area. I have to say the wait staff was great the food was really good but the bar area wasn't up to snuff. They were pretty busy and I think staffed ok but it took a while to get our drinks. The bartenders were nice enough but honestly there were kids around and people waiting on tables and swear one of the bartenders was drunk or high and kept making inappropriate remarks to not only to the patrons at the bar including myself (very uncomfortable) but the waitstaff. It almost felt like a night club. The only thing that saved the night was the food and waitstaff. Nice job guys and way to pick up the slack for a poor bar scene. read more

I got the Small Ceasar salad and an empanada the first (and last) time here. The service was okay, but the food did not meet its pricing whatsoever. I paid $28.00 for a deconstructed, soggy, uncooked empanada with the smallest salad that cost me nearly $20. I could have gone to chip-fil-a and gotten three full meals for that price. I called management and was given a call back regarding refund and the call was never returned after that. Needless to say, my money as better off thrown in the trash. We went here for a night out. Had a couple glasses of wine and both ordered the filet and shrimp special. The food was really good - I had the roasted veggies with mine and my wife had the mashed potatoes (hers were cold). Beside the potato problem, the service seemed a bit overstretched. Two waiters for the whole restaurant meant that we were often waiting quite a long time for someone to check on us, order dessert, etc. It seems like they're doing well and expanding, and they are in a new location, so they might be just working out the kinks. I always forget this location exists and I don't know why!! One of the few Argentinian joints in the ATX and it deserves more of my money!! Empanadas are a must. The shell is nice, thin, and flaky. Not the thick doughy crap most other places opt for. Also great for parties as well. You can order them cold and take them home to bake yourself. Every single filling is fantastic. I had the great misfortune to have dinner here tonight and cannot adequately describe how truly painful and downright awful our experience was. We waited 45 minutes to get a salad and an hour to get entrees. The appetizer (empanadas) were good but the service (starting with the older woman who has to be the single worst hostess I have ever encountered anywhere) to the hipster waiter was horrendous. When we complained about the sheer insanity it took to bring our food the waiter said that he called the owner who basically said "too bad, so sad". They didn't even offer to comp a round of drinks--nothing just pay the $150 tab which is shocking for how expensive this awful restaurant is. The waiter was embarrassed (if I were him I'd look for another place to work) and actually called the owner since they were allegedly "training someone" in the kitchen hence the 45 minutes to get s salad but the owner apparently told him "we aren't comping anything". I will avoid this place like the plague and would highly encourage everyone and anyone in bee cave to do likewise unless they like being tortured, having to wait forever, be ignored and oh pay so highly for that privilege it should be criminal. This is truly the biggest disgrace of a restaurant that I have ever seen. The prices and the lack of service honestly made me laugh. I hope that this review helps you STAY AWAY from this place and that they go out of business. They should be ashamed of themselves. The manager called me this evening and said to "come back when she was working--any night other than Wednesday or Sunday" and she'll "make sure we get great service". I politely declined because I was essentially ripped off by this place and not even offered a drink, much less comping a meal or hell even the entire tab given how bad things were. So my review now would be a zero if the scale went that low. She essentially said the service stinks when she's not working but didn't offer anything to make it right.
