This place is family owned and very well run. The owners are friendly and accomodating. Their mediterranean food is really very good and all homemade. They have a nice selection of wine or spirits. Beer too. We have been there during the day with friends (we are in our 50's) and we have been there late at night a few times after a play or concert in the area. It is more lively at night, but it's a fun vibe. They have sishas available for smoking flavoured tobacco. We did not indulge, but it was interesting to see them in use and there was no obnoxious smell coming from the water pipes. The prices are very reasonable as well. read more

I've had this restaurant on my "Need to Grab Someone to Eat Here" list for a while, as I keep passing it anytime I head over to Wynyard Quarter. My friend and I had just finished up a week of adventure and wanted to eat a proper dinner before her flight in the morning. So we stopped here. Glancing through the menu, my eyes immediately zoned in on the kangaroo fillet. Mainly because I have a thing for exotic foods (I had a kangaroo burger in London), but also because it came with vegetables gratin, wilted spinach, and an eggplant puree finished in a beef-wine au jus. Close your mouth before a fly goes in. My friend ordered the walnut & mascarpone crusted lamb rump with feta & herb potato crush, aubergine caviar, and glazed bulbs in a merlot jus. What. We should've ordered a starter as our dishes did take some time to come out, but we drank water and recounted all the things we accomplished in the past week. Once our dishes arrived, we admired the presentation then proceeded to delve in. My friend didn't know what to do with the walnuts, as they were off to the side rather than apart of either the lamb rump or the potato crush, but liked how the feta played off the lamb. I was glad that the waitress suggested to get my kangaroo medium, as if it were any more done, it would have been too tough. The eggplant puree and beef jus was phenomenal; I spend most of my time wiping up the au jus with pieces of kangaroo and enjoying each bite. Actually, I spent most of my time trying to cut the 'roo fillet as this place did not have proper steak knives. More serration was needed on those blades. If I were to grab another mate and come back, I would order a starter and also check out either the ostrich or venison dish. No complaints here! read more

We came here on the spur of the moment as we were hungry and had just seen a deal on Grab One for the restaurant. It was pay so much and get double that worth from the menu....like purchase $50 deal you get $100 worth of the menu etc.. Though when paying for the bill at the end we had used just a little over the $100 but could only use half the voucher worth.....so would have to come back again to use the other $50. Great way to get people to come back!! Anyway , firstly the service was good , the place was pretty empty when we got there so taking advantage of the beautiful day chose an outdoor table of which many were available. On the first visit here I chose the chicken liver pate as an entrée and my better half the salmon. Both perfect. Next for the mains option I chose the snapper on a bed of potato and my other half a pork dish. Again mine was perfect in every way, but maybe this is because I do like fish and mashed potato when done properly is my one of my top favourite vege dishes. But the pork dish was unfortunately a little bit of a let down , not being cooked quite right . Still to finish the chocolate cake was chosen,and could not fault it. On our second visit we had a couple of little one's with us so they chose the kids option of nuggets and chips, of which I sampled one myself. We kept it simple this time as did not want to spend too much time eating. I ordered the special of the good old fish and chips and my better half the calamari. This time neither were with fault. And again on this occasion the service was good. We had ordered several coffees and though not on the menu they made a couple of fluffys for the little one's which they commented on were far better than somewhere they had been previously mainly because the cup size was bigger and tasted better. Even these young minds at five years old could give praise or criticise things. And to top things off on this particular occasion we were not charged for our coffees and only for the kid's fluffys. . So overall putting both experiences together (,despite the lamb dish,) the service being good, the food good and that final little touch at the end when settling the bill I have to give it 5/5 and recommend to anyone . Chances are we will be back at some point. read more

Dined here last night using coupons from GrabOne. The food was great, I ordered the Scotch Fillet for Main and had Apple Crumble for dessert. The dessert could have been better. The place looks clean and tidy. The only thing though if there is only 1 waiter at night? I mean one single guy for the entire night. Good thing that the place was not that packed or else service could have suffered. The waiter was friendly and courteous. I'll definitely visit again. read more

We were staying in Auckland for two days prior to boarding a cruise ship at Princes Wharf. The restaurant was next to our hotel so we decided to try it on the spur of the moment. We noticed from the menu displayed outside the restaurant that they had unusual hamburgers such a kangaroo and of course buffalo. My wife had the lamb hamburger and had the buffalo hamburger. Both were very tasty. They featured grilled onions, cheese and a fried egg. We each also added a mesclun salad which was very fresh and came with a tasty vinaigrette dressing. Our waiter was very attentive, and the chef came to our table twice to ask how we were enjoying the meal. We returned again the second evening. This time we both ordered a seafood dish consisting of prawns and scallops. Again the food was wonderful. It was cooked in a delicious creamy tomato sauce and we were given bread to be able to "soak up" the extra sauce off the plate. Again the waiter and chef were very attentive. The recognized us from the prior evening and treated us like "regulars." We would very highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Worst meal I have ever had. Complete false advertising. We arrived at 6.30pm. Only 3 couples in the restaurant. They were definitely NOT busy. I ordered pork belly with the cranberry on the side and was told it came "on roast pumpkin" with steamed vegetables. When it arrived it was not pork belly but pork strips - 2 of them with 4 tiny cubes of roast pumpkin and one shrivelled piece of cauliflower. We asked what was in the "side of roasted vegetables" because we knew more food was needed. We were told cauliflowers, broccoli, and grean beans so we ordered. There was 1 piece of brocolli that was old and yellow on top, 4 dried out pieces of cauliflower and 4 carrot sticks - no green beans and they were not roasted. After complaining, I was offered another meal and I chose an eye fillet steak. To be fair, they offered that meal at the same price as the pork belly. The "jus" turned out to be bisto gravy mix and the "bearnaise" something resembling mayonnaise. We gave up and went somewhere else. Be warned: the wine list is poor and expensive for what is cheap wine. The menu online is not what is available. The other thing that amused/concerned us was that the kitchen hand kept running in and out with what appeared to be food covered in a dirty looking tea towel. When I asked what was going on, I was told that they kept running out of things. I felt incredibly sorry for the staff who were doing their best in what was clearly a difficult situation. I am unsure whether the chefs weren't chefs or whether the owner didn't provide what he/she was supposed to for the menu to be delivered. On another note, we have been to this restaurant for lunch and it was a good experience so maybe dinner is too much of a stretch. read more

Dined here courtesy of a GrabOne deal. Awful! Would not recommend to anyone! The restaurant wasn't even very busy and we waited outside along with another couple for someone to seat us. No one came to our aid so we walked in. The maitre d then asked if we had a booking and was worried when we said no, (however the empty tables continued to stay empty throughout the course of the evening). We had to wave down the young waitress who was busy setting an empty table and she told us to wait until she was finished. She then told us she was not allowed to take our orders (we only wanted to order drinks). The food was a bit pricey, but as expected of a restaurant of that location. We ordered the truffle ravioli and the wings. The ravioli was a cream based pasta, with sundried tomatoes and spring onion...a disgusting combination which I only ordered as I figured they must know what they're doing to combine such ingredients, boy was I wrong! The wings came with the most basic salad on the side of the plate and was basically dry with a small drizzle of dressing (we joked about it). We ordered a second drink each, my friend's came out first and mine was a a few minutes behind (took a whole 3 seconds to pour the wine). A long and detailed review but I would like the new owners to see the experience from the eyes of a customer who once ran a successful restaurant for a number of years and only ever had good reviews. read more
