The one bald bartender there is having a tough time. And honestly who could blame him. These young folks (21-25) are tormenting him day in and day out. The crowd swings very young here which can be annoying. It kind of sucks because it's not BB's fault but god trying to move a sorority girl from the bar where you were sitting previously because she's "waiting for her friend to take a shot" is just like. A sad missed lesson in bar etiquette 101. That makes it pretty difficult to enjoy the bar on a weekend but the ambience is cool and there are a lot of games to be played if you came with a group. Me at nearly 30 is too old for this bar tho. You've been warned elder millennials.

So I've been hanging around this place for over a decade. I know a bunch of people that work here and one of my besties has worked here for years. I've probably been here more times than any other bar in the city. So why am I just now writing a review? Because in my opinion the reopening has pushed it to a 5 star bar. Before COVID I was a bar rat here simply because I knew everyone. The crowd was unsavory but the chaos out front every night was appealing. There was always a fight outside or someone that needed to be put out the door. A lot of arrogant white dudes with caps on forward when they came in and backwards when they were leaving. It was an old city sports bar. The food was great the service was ok and I probably couldn't have done more than 3 stars. So I just couldn't review it. I didn't want to write a review that would hurt stop my friends from making money. Now let's talk the reopening. The playlist is solid. It's not a bunch of white bros on a Saturday night. The staff is the best team I've seen there in years. Super attentive even though they were clearly outnumbered. Just awesome to chat with. Everyone was super friendly. The crowd took a drastic change for the better. You're average douchebag fratty sports fan has been replaced by what appears to be art students and fashion experts. It's the first time I've ever felt under dressed in there. To top it all off people apologize when they bump into you! Kindness has taken over! I think it's a younger crowd than it used to be. However I'm also older than I used to be. So that tidbit may just be a personal perspective thing. The food is now outsourced. It's not a full bar menu anymore. You get pizza or wings and the servers walk down the street and get it. This description might not sound appealing but seriously it works. Last night for example the bar is packed and we got two pizzas. One pepperoni(which has a tinge of a sweet heat sauce) and one regular, 20 minutes we had it. It was still too hot for me. I burned the roof of my mouth. The pepperoni was really awesome too. The wait list for the pool table still takes a while because you've got the "pros" that show up. Like the guy last night that had to have had the table for hours. He put on pool gloves and brought his own stick. He tried so hard to impress the chick he was playing with. At the end of the night she disappeared he was walking around the bar looking for her. Anyway, even if you've been here before try it again. Also you aren't getting in without a Vaxx card or a photo of it. So don't be an asshole and argue with the door guy. Don't be a jerk off and photoshop your shit. Stay home. The rest of us just started to feel comfortable going out again. Don't ruin this for us America.

Fun night of pool, drinking, and shuffle board. There's something for everybody here. They have all of the usual canned beers and mixed drinks too. Nothing too fancy, but you come here for the change of scenery. Pool is always fun no matter how good/bad you are. You pay by the hour so have at it and have fun! Oh, and they just got a basket ball game in the back that is fun to challenge your friends on. Only $1 a go.

Good vibe for a sports bar. Has darts for $2 and pool that I think is free. Good happy hour prices and its a very large space so it has room for lots of people without feeling crowded

Howdy, came by this place while on a short stop on my way to Washington DC. I was expecting a distant but polite local crowd and found the opposite. Friendly atmosphere and inexpensive drinks (they were half off while we were there). Wide variety and diverse clientele. Highly recommend this place for a fun stop for an hour or two.

Cool spot to go after dinner. Good pool and other bar games. they have shuffle board, pool and darts. All in a laid back atmosphere.

I was glad to make a return visit to Buffalo Billiards. I like the open space and the various activities that you can play with friends. You have a choice of pool, shuffle board, skeeball and darts. There are tons of TVS around showing sporting events and the atmosphere is a good time. The beer selection was good and the food is average, but the prices are cheap. The wait staff are friendly and that is a good thing because with all the people and chaos, it could be awful. Remember to bring ID - you will need to reserve games.

With the help of Yelp, we found this place. First off, the building that houses National Mechanics is absolutely beautiful inside and out, and for good reason. The pub/restaurant occupies the old Mechanics National Bank, a majestic Greek Revival building, built in 1836. Inside the restaurant, the surroundings contrasted greatly with the outside. The large, primarily wooden interior has the feel of a vintage pub. It is equally as beautiful as the front. The service at National Mechanics was great. Though the staff was clearly running shorthanded, every employee we came into contact with served us with a smile and couldn't be friendlier. The food, at least on that day, was mediocre at best, unfortunately. While the menu was filled with all sorts of tempting dishes that already made us thinking of future visits, we opted for the Mexican Burger and the Ribeye Cheesesteak, two twists on old pub standbys. Sadly, we were both disappointed in our meals. We did start off on a bright spot, food-wise. My friend and I opted to share the Batter-Fried Pickled Green Beans, which were fabulous! Too bad the good food ended there... The description of the Mexican Burger sounded amazing, with avocado, pico de gallo, pickled jalapeños, Monterrey Jack cheese, and chipotle mayo. My friend said it was kind of bland and it was quite greasy. My ribeye cheesesteak did not match well with its "Amoroso" roll and the steak itself was dry. In the end, we were both disappointed in our choice in a lunch spot. Perhaps it was the large crowd of diners and little staff that made it all come out a little...off. In the end, I'd try National Mechanics again if I were in the area, as the atmosphere and service made it a cool spot to dine in. Hopefully the food will be better next time.

Huge bar, giant wall of liquor bottles, dim lighting, and a cool old-school vibe. I told the bartender that ordering a beer in a place like this felt like I was insulting him. He laughed and told me not to worry about it. The drink special was called "Naked and Famous," which honestly sounded like the perfect cocktail to order in honor of Jen. But then I spotted a dark beer on the menu that sounded too good to pass up. If you follow me, you know I'm slowly becoming a dark beer guy. I liked it a lot. The sandwich special was a cheesesteak. Sorry, I should've taken a picture of the menu. But I really enjoyed it, and for $18 it came with a mountain of seasoned fries, which feels like a bargain these days. Bomb Shell: the two people working absolutely crushed it. I don't know if they were understaffed or if Monday night got busier than expected, but they were working their tails off the entire time. Even with that, they stayed polite, friendly, helpful, and incredibly accommodating to the guy carrying around a mannequin. Great visit to Sassafras!
