I walked into the Irma for the first time on Thanksgiving Day, and was surprised by this winter wonderland they've set up. Lights, garlands, snowflakes, and ornaments hung from the ceiling of this old building. Antique guns, dishes, and old cash register, and seats at a bar lined the wall on the West side. Old tin tiles pattern the ceiling, fading portraits and peeling wall paper take you a step back to long, long ago. As we dined on the savory thanksgiving day feast in this cozy dining hall, the snow outside went from a light dusting to a beautiful snowfall, bringing in the holiday cheer! The food was fresh and delicious! The buffet was full of thanksgiving classics: mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, cranberry sauce, ham, rolls, and so much more! If you're in Cody, even for just a day, make sure to stop in at the Irma for a bite and holiday delights! read more

We are in Cody for business every year and have only been here one other time for food... lost our heads and thought we would give them another chance. Decided to split the prime rib dinner that came with 2 sides each and vegetables and bread. We both chose salad bar and baked potato for our sides. (Not any fault of theirs, but lady in front of us noticed salad bin was completely empty so we mentioned to waitress. Waitress said she would take care of, and while waiting for new lettuce, same lady put some salad dressing on her plate then proceeded to dip her finger in and lick same finger. She then decided to pick up lettuce pieces that had fallen on counter in front of lettuce bin and throw back in almost empty container with previously-licked fingers. When new lettuce arrived, it was poured on top of licked-lettuce in bottom of empty bin [unbeknownst to what had just taken place from one of their patrons). Of course, same lady picked up all serving tongs with same licked fingers. Again, no fault of Irma's, but ewww.] Salad bar was lettuce, onions, cheese, cucumbers, olives, tomatoes and dressings. Not a very diverse salad bar. We ordered rare to medium-rare prime rib and when it arrived it was very well-done. Came with baked potato only - no veggies. Talked to the waitress about our extremely overcooked food. She did come back with a medium-cooked portion, apologizing, saying the entire roast was overcooked for the evening. For $50, that is information that should be disclosed to those of us who prefer the rare-to-medium-rare side. Needless to say, food as sub-par at best. Place was dirty. Tables inside bar were sticky. We called and were able to get a reservation and were then seated fairly quickly. However, our server didn't show up for at least 15 minutes. The buffet was mediocre, at best. The salad bar was pretty good, nice selection, seemed fresh. The prime rib was pretty good, but that's where my positivity for the buffet ends. The tortellini was questionable looking; potatoes seemed old; rolls were hard; ham was nasty; vegetables were mush. The gentleman serving the meat was nice. All of the other wait staff we encountered were rude and acted like we're a bother just being there. I realize it is an old building that has been converted into a buffet, but it was very difficult navigating around. It is a very cool old building. My wife and I had the breakfast buffet. The food and service was very good and the price was very reasonable. The ambiance is very nice.

Went there over 4th of July and heard this place has good food . There food is horrible I ordered there prime rib medium rare and got well done . I told the waitress and she informed me it's hard to get medium rare prime rib because it's cooked in advance and they have to reheat it so cooks it little more. That was all waitresses had to say for me to say won't be ordering anything and will never go back. My wife has there pot pie and the wife said it wasn't that bad . Hope this helps be aware of the prime rib if you like medium rare. read more

Our waitress was not good... Others appeared to be on the ball and attending to guests, however, ours was not of this caliber. Our food was cold which was a bummer.. My burger was not just well done... it was turned into a frikn hockey puck. A cold hockey puck.. When the waitress finally returned (only to give us a bill.. never filled our drinks which were empty for 10 minutes), we told her our food was cold... she said she was so sorry why didn't we "tell her" .. I just did not feel like being that person... you know the one that says seriously!! We paid our bill and left... I would NOT recommend this place at all! It needs new management and the employees need to be a lot more friendly and show off the Irma by telling people proudly about its history! The food in my opinion is not spectacular but not bad either, just average. Though my husband disagreed. We both ordered the prime rib, though different cuts, and had different feelings about it. I felt it was okay and he thought it was very delicious and flavorful. The service was fine, our waitress was attentive. Pricing seemed okay, in part I think you are paying for the unique historical atmosphere of the place. I advise you to take a little walk/ look around even if you don't eat or stay here. My Husband & I stayed in Cody several days during Labor Day weekend while visiting Yellowstone. We took the Trolley tour which was fun & informative. (However, don't expect social distancing) after the tour we stayed for the show so we ordered dinner. I had a salad; which was delicious. We shared the pretzel sticks and cheese, again delicious. My husband had the Ribeye steak with baked potato. The steak was cooked perfectly but had NO FLAVOR what so ever!! The baked potato was not cooked all the way. The ambiance was fantastic along with the entertainment. However the steak and service is seriously lacking! We will not eat here again. read more

My daughter and I drove down from Yellowstone for the day as we wanted to check out the town of Cody. After reading reviews, and seeing the outside of the restaurant, we figured it would be a great place to stop for lunch and take in the small town vibe. Unfortunately, it was kind of a disappointment. My daughter had a cheeseburger and I had the buffalo burger and we both ordered fries and drinks. While the place was somewhat busy, it took almost an hour to get our food. After having burgers in the surrounding areas, I figured I'd have a decent size plate. However, I've had bigger burgers at McDonald's. And the Buffalo burger wasn't the same as I've had at different establishments. It was rather dry and semi-bland. The building itself is really cool. Definitely had that old west feel to it with wood trim, rafters and an old style bar. I'm hoping I caught this place on a bad day because I wouldn't mind trying it out again due to the vibe and location. But I would try other eateries in the area before I made my way back. read more

No gluten-free menu. Gross, over cooked steak full of nasty fat, served with bread. For celiac and gluten free food. Had to remake steak as it was well not medium rare. Almost 1/3 of it was fat and over peppered. Gave daughter most of it and got (4) pieces for me. Manager was a jerk and basically said the food should be marbled (why was a 1/3 of it covered with fat - does he understand what marbled means?) He was going to remove the charge then came back and said cause my daughter ate the food while drinking her drink and her dads due to the heavy pepper, he would only take off 1/2 the charge. The food was... good. Nothing special. We ended up here because another restaurant down the main street had a long wait, and Irma's had a big ballroom dining area so had seats available. I had the reuben with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was pretty standard but the sweet potato fries were nicely thick cut and fresh. I added the salad bar to my meal which had some pretty standard salad mix and a small array of veggie toppings including beets (my fav). While up there, I caught a glimpse of the prime rib buffet trays which looked a lot better than I thought! In hindsight, a little bummed we didn't opt for the 'famous' prime rib buffet, but maybe next time... For dessert, I had the blueberry pie (average) but my boyfriend had the peanut butter cream pie which was super tasty. read more

Don't waste your time. We were told 45 minute wait but after 1 1/2 hours we went in and noticed the hostess was telling some people 2 hours and were sitting others right away after they would say they didn't wanna wait. Waitress was rude and hardly showed up at all. Manager didn't know price of buffet we had to look it up. Waited an additional 15 Minutes for clean plates after notifying 4 different people. The bread they put on the buffet is literally packaged store buns. We even told others to wait inside and keep an eye on their place in line because they would be skipped. read more

This is an awesome historic hotel/restaurant! They have it set up like it would have been in the Old Wild West. The host/bartender is dressed like the part from the old days which added a really cool touch. The food was delicious too! My husband had the cowboy burger and I had the spinach artichoke dip. There wasn't a lot of options for vegetarians but the spinach artichoke dip was by far the best version I've ever had. It was better than a fancy steakhouse back in our home town. We highly recommend this place for a fun dining experience while enjoying the historic western town of Cody, WY. read more

I see the positive reviews here are for the prime rib buffet which didn't interest me and I didn't try. We ordered off the menu. Service was painfully slow, and we would have been happier with a hamburger from McDonalds. The food was bland and unappetizing, and for what we got, way overpriced. I would suggest walking through the hotel and saloon, but think twice about eating/staying here. read more

I haven't stayed here, I'm at the Chamberlin Inn across the street - but I have been in the bar and restaurant, walked through the place, and generally have partaken of the ambience, so take this for what it's worth. This hotel is a piece of American history - Bill Cody, the famous Wild West showman, built it during his fading glory. The fade continues. The bar is huge and dark, and stuffed with faux bikers on their weekend rides and the lowest denomination of American tourists who are on their alternating year from Disneyhell. The place does not smell good. The menu is exactly what one might expect - overpriced for stuff that has cute names but isn't any different or better than what was served at the original Wild West show. There's the obligatory nick-nack full of crap store in the lobby - don't bother - the selection and prices are better in the 1/2 dozen places within three blocks on the main drag. The gunfight - ah, the gunfight, the gunfight says it all. There are banners all around "FREE GUN BATTLE NIGHTLY 5:30-7:00". The locals all mention it as soon as the other three things to do in town are covered. The 1.5 hour gun battle is not. It's 1/2 hour of very large people fighting for the "best" seat (for only a $1!!) and assorting themselves conveniently on the Irma's front porch - next to the bar. (BTW - people in bars in Wyoming smoke very unapologetically - usually smokers don't bug me - but groups of them drinking and smoking like alkies falling off the wagon, smack dab in the middle of a teaming throng of Walmart attired mid-westerners waiting for the "last free show on earth" do, very much.) So at 6:05 some people dressed like what Buffalo Bill Cody et al may have looked like if they dressed from a Salvation Army store in 2008 shoot a single gun once and start yelling at the crowd. They all have those bellies that overhang their belts - I guess that's what it was like back in the Wild West. They spend 20 minutes covering their sponsors - wait, their sponsors?? Oh, I get it - they are celebrating the fact that Bill Cody was the first true mass entertainer - and what better way than by firmly embracing the most holy of Hollywood traditions - the commercial. Then, another guy with very long hair and a very large stomach demonstrates "safety" by shooting an empty soda can (product placement?) from one inch with his pistol propelled blank. It makes a hole in the can. Can this get any better? We find out that someone in the audience is from Tibet, gasp, and someone is 98, double gasp, and that two are soon due to be shipped out for Bush's war. We all salute and sing a song of patriotism or something like that. I forget, I was nearly unconscious. At this point my wife literally drags me back towards the hotel. "Hold on honey", I say, "we have 60 minutes invested here - how can we walk out?" The look of slow agonized death appears threateningly in her eyes. Now that's something to see. We go home across the street to get ready for dinner. 20 minutes later at 6:50 we hear the battle raging. About ten shots in quick succession. When we walk out for dinner at 7:00 most of the crowd has disbursed and Buffalo Bill is wheeling the ersatz saloon and outhouse back behind the real saloon. read more

I'm from the seattle area. I took my older (14 & 18) biracial daughters to Yellowstone, then we wanted to go to the dinosaur museum and to the legend rock petroglyphs and cody was on the way. I foolishly ignored all the trump flags and maga merchandise littering the town and stopped in to find some food. After some local idiot blasted us with truck exhaust on purpose and stared hard at us, we crossed the street to this establishment. Beautiful historic looking building. We love history so we especially loved the charm of the building. We entered the restaurant and were met with stares and glares and our host didnt greet us but motioned for us to sit down at a table. Our waitress came by and tossed our menu on the table and hastily left. Ok..covid...I get it. But then she sat another family down and conversed with them, asked how they were and that shed be their server and happy to help. Unfortunately my daughters both noticed and asked " is wyoming racist?" Finally after awhile she took our drink order. Again, very haste and quick. My daughter works at a restaurant so she definitely noticed the mannerisms more than I did. We got our drinks. My younger daughters dr pepper tasted like water with a splash of soda. Ok. Maybe the machines down. Our waitress comes back and she takes our orders. Simple orders. Simple requests. Again, no warmth or conversation at all, even though my kids were full of "thank you so much" and all the lovable charm and manners they possess. She made it quick and went to the next table and joked with them and gave them all the smiles and hospitality. She tosses our food on the table and leaves without asking if there was anything else. And there definitely was because she forgot my daughters fries, our utinsels, napkins, and our ranches. Mind you, the place is not busy and theres tons of waitresses. So 5 mins goes by and shes says "oops. Forgot your forks" and I say "hey, also, my daughter didnt get her fries and-" then she just leaves again. So when she gets back with fries i say.. " I'm sorry, also, we didnt get our ranches and do u mind if we can get some napkins?" again she just leaves. Without saying sorry or was there anything else. Bottom line I knew she was just being a b*** when I asked if our sodas were refillable and she said yes and she will come right back with our sodas, and one minute later sets down a pitcher of water. My kids and I are just flabbergasted at this point so I just politely ask for the check and two to go boxes. She asked two? I said yes please and she comes back a minute later with ONE tiny to go box. I mean by all means if racism doesnt bother you go ahead and eat here. Their burgers were decent but my daughters nachos tastes like there was ammonia in it, so we really got sketched out and concerned. But I looked it up and apparently cheese that turns can taste like ammonia? So it wasnt cleaner they sprayed into the nachos but I have never ever ever went to a restaurant and have my food taste like cleaning supplies. read more

The food is decent, but not great, but if you're driving through on your way to or from Yellowstone, it's a must. The atmosphere and history are fantastic and authentic. I've only had breakfast, and it's probably a three-star breakfast. The buffet is decent and the menu food is as well, but it's not great. I do recommend the bread pudding with whiskey sauce (be warned, the whiskey is STRONG) and the biscuits and gravy. If only they didn't use powdered eggs for their scrambled eggs! The device is also decent - no delays, polite waitress, but not warm. It's such an iconic place, though, and the food nearby or in the park is definitely not better. read more

Such a beautiful hotel with such terrible service. There was no wine list because they were " updating it".Our waitress was clueless as to what they had. I ordered a Tito's and soda which was all soda. Sent it back and it came back the same. Went to the bar myself to see what they had and asked our server to change my order. She didn't return for over 15 minutes so my husband went to the bar to get it. The veggies were frozen crap and so was the fake frozen garlic bread. Disgusting. Traveled all the way from California for the worst meal ever. read more
