Went to the Buffalo Brew Pub for lunch to specifically as part of a personal quest to find the best French Onion Soup and Reuben in the region. We were seated right away and the server quickly came over to introduce herself. We needed a little time to look at the menu so our server went to get our water. When she returned we placed our order. It didn't take long for our soup to be served. To me the best French Onion Soup should be served with a topping of nicely browned and crusty cheese that is melted over the edge of the crock and dripping down the side. This wasn't served that way. I immediately asked the server to have the kitchen really brown the top. A little while later it was brought back out in worse shape than the first time. Not only was the cheese still not browned, it was submerged into the broth. After two attempts by the kitchen, I determined that they are not capable of properly preparing French Onion Soup. Both the soup and the Reuben were of average flavor and certainly not worth the money they charge. People say they have good beer and wings but I do not recommend having the French Onion Soup or the Reuben, you don't get what you pay for. I rounder up 3.5 stars to 4 because the server was friendly and did her job well. They also have a good selection of craft beer. The loss of the other 1.5 stars is purely for the kitchen's disregard for a simple customer request, which may be because of poor kitchen training, management and supervision. read more

Had lunch at the Brew Pub the other day. We started the meal with french onion soup and were a bit disappointed. The broth didn't have a lot of taste and the croutons were mushy. The two bowls were not consistent in size or 'look'. One was smothered in cheese hanging over the sides. The other wasnt even full. We actually sent it one back to have the cheese browned more but didnt come back much better. Luckily my sandwich was very good! I got a chicken fajita wrap. It was served warm with the wrap toasted a bit. The chicken was seasoned perfectly with the peppers and onions sauteed nicely. It can with crunchy crisp fries. One good, one bad, but service was good, therefore a 3 star. read more

I love places that make their own beer. Tasting different places ideas on a lager, ale, or IPA is always fun. This place is great when it comes to that. They have their own house beers, and we each tried one. My mom had the Buffalo IPA and I had the Amber Ale. Both were smooth and delicious. You wouldn't have thought they were a microbrew. Came here with my mom while we were out holiday shopping for a late lunch/early dinner. The place has a dive bar atmosphere that just welcomes you when you walk in. They also had the fireplace going to make it feel cozy. My mother ordered the chicken wing soup and really enjoyed it. She hasn't been able to find one around here that she really loves, and this one was close. She also ordered the Cobb Salad and couldn't believe how big it was. She finished it after having the soup as well. My mom is someone who eats like a bird, so it had to be delicious if she ate that much. I had the French Onion soup and the Chicken Finger wrap with fries. The French Onion soup was ok, the broth and inside was tasty, but the cheese was super gooey and I almost choked on it. I know cheese is gooey, but usually French Onion Soup has the cheese crispier and less gooey/runny. The Chicken Finger wrap was the best I have had in a while. I had the fingers done hot and requested no blue cheese. You could taste the heat in the hot and was filled perfectly with the lettuce and tomato inside with the chicken. The fries were average to most places. I would definitely return for the wrap or maybe even try the Buffalo Sampler they have, that gives you 6 wings and a mini beef on weck. The initial review kept staring me in my face because the truth is the BUFFALO BREW PUB is my true "GO TO PLACE" whenever we can't decide where to eat. It's the 'let's go get a fish fry" but can't decide where to go AND the offer a true BUFFALO BEER BATTERED HADDOCK FISH FRY every single day of the week (GET THE SMALL ... it is enough to eat!). Where else can you get peanuts and popcorn ... ok, at a baseball game but what restaurant brings back the feeling of an old time tavern ... the BUFFALO BREW PUB! Yes, there were some rude folks from Philadelphia in the place obnoxiously celebrating their team's win (In a way it was sad to witness Eagles' fans verifying their reputation as being just crude folks here in the Buffalo Brew Pub but they didn't take away from my dinner.). Tried something new ... we both did. I went for the Beer Battered Fish Hoagie and Buffalo Chicken Wing Soup. My friend went for the poutine. The soup was soooooo good on a cold rainy day. I wish I had only ordered a bowl or maybe two of this delicious example of a soup dedicated to Buffalo's own gastronomic identifier THE WING. My fish hoagie and fries were soo good too. A fun local bar and grille with a very "Buffalo" vibe to it! they have a small parking lot onsite and it's easy to get in and out. We sat at the bartop, so we sat ourselves. We were greeted right away and just had some drinks as we were hanging out in the area waiting for our flight time to approach. The bar staff was very friendly and checked back in on us regularly. They had several TVs up at the bar, so if you wanted to watch a game, it'd be easy enough to hang out and do that there. The bar stools don't have backs to them, which I would have preferred, but not that big a deal overall. They have popcorn and peanuts for bar snacks if you want any of that. My friend offered to take me here for my bday dinner. I hadn't been here in 20 years due to the limited menu; but much to my surprise, the menu is now HUGE! It was hard to pick something to eat because everything seemed so delicious! I almost thought the experience here would not be good. They didn't take reservations, but I was seated right away ... but then we waited 20 minutes to have any waitress come over and we just sat there. No drink order or anything. Finally, we called a waitress over. She told us it wasn't her table but she would take care of us and apologized. She later explained our true waitress was new and attending to a party. This waitress later came over and apologized and gave us free drink chips (they let us get free cheesecake instead) for what happened. It was really nice of them and they totally made up for what happened! Next, the food! We ordered Buffalo wing dip to share and mmmmm mmmmmm it was good and they give you a lot! Well done! I absolutely love the Buffalo Brew Pub for many of the Buffalo staples they offer. Can never go wrong with the Buffalo Chicken Soup or a decent Beef on Weck. But a lot of people overlook the burgers. I recently devoured their cheeseburger and it was fantastic. Service is always good and the drinks are always cold. My only complaint is that the booth seating is not comfortable especially if you have a back problem as I do. Request to be seated in at a table with chairs. Went on 3/10 for fish fry and roast beef on weck. Fish fry was a 'large' (19.99) but apparently 'large' size can really be considered barely 'medium'. Went here last week and forgot to leave a review! For starters, I was not a big fan of our waitress. Getting our drinks (waters) took around 20 minutes, and it took another 20 minutes for her to come back around and take our orders. My partner got a beer and she brought it out AFTER bringing us waters and taking our food orders, around 30-40 minutes after he requested it. It wasn't busy there at all, so it was strange that she kept forgetting about us. The food was decent overall, but the best part about this place was the popcorn/peanuts. I got a burger and fries ($17) and only got around 9 french fries (they were so good and I found it strange that they only gave me a few, considering the price.) The inside has decent decorations, and we sat near the fish tank which was fun to look at. Overall, I wouldn't eat here again solely because of the price:food ratio, and the service was very poor. They have amazing service and they are very quick and efficient while still being personable. I love the vibe and the feel of a local homey place. Ashely was an amazing server and I appreciated her attentiveness to all my wants and needs. The food is ok. (That's why only a 4 instead of 5.) Everything is cooked well, there is just no seasoning. So when you're asked if you'd like salt and pepper, say "yes". I had my first experience with Beef on Weck here and it had no seasoning. As I didn't know any better...I thought, oh that must be how it is. But since my corned beef, carrots, potatoes and cabbage faired the same lack of seasonings, I think it's just the way they do it. There were not many people in the place at the time we went which was at 1 pm on a Saturday. I did find the table to be not fully clean when we sat though. The first, and still the best IMO Long before the proliferation of micro breweries, craft beer culture, and gastropub dining, BBP was putting out their own lineup of phenomenal flagship and seasonal brews alongside a diverse draft selection that includes over 30 other beers. They also have wine, liquor, cocktails, etc. Not all breweries have a full bar; BBP does. Most bars don't have complimentary peanuts and popcorn; BBP does. Many bars and brewpubs gouge wine drinkers; BBP DOESN'T! With apologies to nobody, their standard house lager is my go-to selection, but there's a beer (or several) here for EVERY taste. [Translation: In an era of IPA overkill, thank God there are still places like this - though not many - that actually brew and offer hearty lagers and sweet pilsners.] BBP has great food, including outstanding wings done in the standard, unpretentious style (no fusion-ey BS or hipster-inspired flavors)! Not sure how or why they got left off the coveted "Buffalo Delicious Dozen" best wings list, but that snub borders on criminal. I've had the wings at all but one of those twelve places, and the wings at BBP merit inclusion on the prestigious "Buffalo Wing Tour (Call it "The Delicious BAKER'S Dozen?")" As fish fries are another list-worthy Buffalo culinary institution (especially on Fridays), BBP's EVERYDAY fish fry is second to none. For those of us lamenting the loss of The Crow's Nest and their superb, now defunct version of the giant beer battered fish fry atop a mountain of savory sides, BBP comes closest to replicating that style and flavor. 4 of us came on a Saturday after 8. The wait for a table was about 10 minutes so we went over to the bar with intentions to get an appetizer and beers to bring over to the table once ready. I should have checked for her name because she stood out as my favorite waitress so far during these masked up dining times. So many find it hard to have a personality (which I totally get) but this waitress was hilarious. When you sit, they offer popcorn and peanuts to the table. Once seated they offer to help yourself to popcorn (located by the fish tank). The menu has the buffalo classics such as wings or beef in weck. The wings come in your standard sauces and have the option to upgrade to a special which could be ordering all flats or drums for $1 extra. I have been a patron of the Brew Pub since 1986. It is the first brew pub to ever open in New York State. They currently have 34 draft beers on tap, with 6 made in house. The food is consistently well prepared and delicious. They have a rewards club as well as a free Mug Club. After you have consumed 20 pints of beer there, you receive a mug with your name on it, and reduced prices at happy hour. You also are invited to the Mug Club Christmas Party, and the summer Mug Club picnic. For special events like birthdays and anniversaries, you receive a postcard with a 20% discount. My favorite day to go is Sunday because they have a luscious, slow roasted turkey dinner with all the fixings. Mug Club members receive one dollar off pints of beer all day Sunday and Monday, as well as other days of the week until 7PM. When you arrive, you are welcomed by a friendly hostess and a roaring fireplace. You can't escape the smell of freshly popped popcorn, as well as peanuts, and you can throw the shells on the floor. Once seated, a menu is given with lots of choices. Their wings are consistently amazing: plump and perfectly cooked. Burgers are awesome, so are the Greek and Cobb salads. They offer a fabulous fish fry every day. Their house made chips with Bison dip are really good, and their soups are all flavorful. The specials of the day are listed on a board at the entrance, but your server is happy to recite them for you. They are very kid friendly, offering a children's menu, as well as kiddie size cups with lids and straws.The servers here are all friendly and helpful, and they know all about beer. My large family and I had I luncheon here today. Everyone enjoyed their meals and our server, Alecia was very attentive and accommodating. (5 stars for her!) our issue was with the no separate checks even though our group of 18 would have had only 6 checks. Six people were over 80; my mother 94, and a single check was passed around to try and figure out. 2 people wanted to put their tan on credo card and were directed to the ATM in the front and had to pay a service charge of more than $5 to take out $60. 30 mins of our family time was spent over figuring out the bio and figuring out the tax and tip, I think our server would have been cheating as some had to contribute more to compensate. A NIGHTMARE! I think the manager should have come over with her calculator to help figure out the bills for the 6 that would have liked to combine. read more

I have no idea how I haven't already left a review for BBP. I am a mug club member (you have to drink 10 beers there I believe before you can get your own mug). The bartenders are great and the beer list is usually pretty extensive. There is a helpful beer chart so you can decide based on your tastes what you want to order (although this is digital now due to COVID I believe). I've tried many menu items and they're all pretty decent... Nothing to write home about but it's fine if you're there to grab beers anyway. Their stuffed banana peppers are my favorite item on the menu. Good prices and a casual atmosphere. Came to the brewpub, have been here before but never reviewed. For whatever reason I just like sitting at the bar at this place. It's fun to sit at the bar, watch the TVs, and interact with the people close to you. We ordered buffalo cauliflower, chicken wings, pizza logs and buffalo chicken dip. I guess we were really feeling the chicken wing theme! The chicken wing dip came with tortillas that were too salty, and the dip itself also seemed salty. Wasn't the best I've ever had. The cauliflower, on the other hand, was great, came served with blue cheese which I liked. The pizza logs, not ordered by me, we're OK, but I don't like pizza logs. The chicken wings we ordered medium and barbecue ...they came medium barbecue and just barbecue, the waiter said he would make us another order of medium, because they made a mistake. They also figured this out before they brought it to us. We hesitated, and said that it was fine the way that it was. Next thing you know, drink coins showed up at each of our plates. I thought that was extremely nice, considering we were all right with the order. We also didn't want another drink so those drink coins went into my purse! We did ask if we could use them another time and they said we could. The chicken wings were good and the beer selection is really nice here, plenty of taps to choose from. It was a Monday night, and not extremely busy, they did say they were normally busy on a Monday night, because a lot of the brew pubs are closed on a Monday. BBP is the granddaddy of brewpubs in Western New York. I have been going there since the 1990s. Good craft beer selection but you can get a Blue too if that's your preference over der. Atmosphere is spot on for this type of place. The food is good enough for a pub situation but nothing that great. Typical Buffalo options like beef on weck and wings are on the menu along with burger and fries type food. They are worth a look if you are in that area but at this point you are probably better off going to the newer craft breweries that also have food. read more

We stopped in to have a few drinks and we fell in love with a new beer. This establishment is a hoping place that caters to a variety of people. The bar itself is HUGE! It runs the almost entire length of the restaurant (that's how to do it)! They have a wide variety of beers on tap from lager to IPA with fruits sprinkled in between. I decided on a flight and the star of the night was Ellicottville Chocolate Cherry Bomb Nitro!! It was vanilla cherry with a hint of chocolate goodness in a drink. So we tried the "homemade" spinach and artichoke dip. It had a lot of artichoke chunks, spinach and cheese which was amazingly good. I could have used more garlic but I'm Italian. The portion size was big which was nice. I saw others get the philly steak which looked meaty and cheesy and a good size and someone ordered nachos that were actually layered.. that's how I've been saying for years places should serve it. I'm not a huge fan of the tortilla chips that were served with everything they tasted stale to me, but I also like lighter chips so maybe it's because they were thicker (which I have to say was nice because it didn't break when eating the dip or loaded nachos. The staff were very friendly and the place was packed. The menu had a huge variety and is the same as I've seen posted from other reviewers. We ordered takeout and I was pretty satisfied with our experience! Ordering was easy, food was ready in half an hour, and the staff was really friendly. Picking it up was a breeze! We got the Buffalo cauliflower to start. It was incredible! It wasn't overly greasy or saucy, and it was breaded perfectly. Had the perfect amount of flavor and wasn't overpowered by grease, which happens pretty often with buffalo cauliflower. We each got a fish fry, I got the small while my boyfriend got the large. My fish was really, really dry. It was difficult to eat, I'm guessing because I had such a small piece of fish it just dried out. My boyfriend's fish was perfectly cooked, it was flaky and delicious. The sides were amazing! The French fries were really good, and I loved the macaroni salad. My boyfriend adds: "That was the best tartar sauce I've ever had with a fish fry!" Unfortunately, unlike other times I have been here this time was not great. My girlfriend and I decided to go for a burger. What we ended up having was a bland piece of ground beef on a bun. She ordered the California burger which comes with avocado. Ava(cannot) even chew it. It was like rubber. Her burger also was not seasoned at all, even with the Cajun seasoning our waitress brought over it still did no justice. I asked for my burger to be cooked medium, it was well well well done. I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 because the fries were good and they went out of their way to discount our poor experience. Had a flight of beer and some house made chips with Bison dip. Not many people inside because we are n the early stages of reopening and so people were spread out. There is no outdoor seating option which is a detriment in this day and age. The staff wears their masks and the patrons seemed to following the rules of wearing a mask until seated. I grabbed a table in the back beyond the bar to minimize people walking by the table. Lots of beer options and friendly service.
