The bar and seating area are separated which I like. The food was good, but left more to be desired. Nobody at our table enjoyed the stuffed mushrooms. The burger and quesadilla were solid. This place has been on my list for quite some time, so our monthly lunch group finally agreed to make the trek to Alden. Lots of wood and a fireplace make the room cozy and inviting. I hadn't had salmon in a while, so that's what caught my eye. I couldn't choose between lemon pepper, teriyaki or bbq, so I had the waitress decide for me. Teriyaki it is. Very nice portion of salmon, tasty teriyaki sauce, good fries, and properly cooked asparagus. It's so easy to turn asparagus to mush, so this was impressive. Everyone was pleased with their food, especially the lobster bisque, which won rave reviews. Well thought out beer menu, which I guess is a must for a place with Tap in its name. Came here with a large group, as a sidebar visit during our recent Buffalo Wing Trail trip. One of the gang had been here before and really enjoyed it, so the whole group tagged along for a late-night dinner gathering. We ordered several appetizers to share around the table, them my wife and I got a fish-n-chips dish and several wing flavors to try. Appetizers were decent with onion bites and buffalo cauliflower being the options chosen. The fish-n-chips platter was just okay with a huge piece of semi-crunchy fish and a terrible (sweet) tartar sauce. The accompanying fries were fresh cut, but mushy and obviously not fried long enough. The creamy cole slaw was good, however it was loose on the p[late and the juices ran onto the fish making it mushy. Also, there was a small dish of mixed veggies on the side and they were clearly a bag of the standard frozen kind you'd find at home. Of the wing varieties we tried, the hot garlic parmesan wings were okay, chiavettas wings were interesting with a super-vinegary sauce, but the best version were the sweet chili with plenty of tang and then a kick. This place has a warm and comfortable pub atmosphere with excellent food and top-notch service. We tried the chicken fingers with fresh-cut French fries--crispy, flavorful, and perfectly done. The Shelley Reuben was absolutely massive--hands down the biggest Reuben I've ever seen! The corned beef was incredibly tender and melted in your mouth. The rye bread is specially bake for the Shelley by a local bakery. We also had the Greek burger, which was cooked to perfection and packed with flavor. This spot is truly Alden's gem. A must-try! Jan 6 pics-We've stopped at the Black Water Tavern a few times for a drink and food. We've had a few of their food specials throughout the week like their taco day when we had a taco bowl that was a great price and very good. We've also tried their burgers and I'd say they are 6.5 out of 10. Not bad but nothing I'd crave. The waffle fries were excellent though, and I was happy to see them on the menu because they don't have them many places. On this visit we had the nicest waitress, the food wasn't as great as we remember but it wasn't horrible. The dinners didn't come with salad you had to pay extra for that. We wanted to tip the waitress nice but since we had an extra round we were $2 short, we really didn't want to short change her so put it on the Cc which then we find out they charge extra to do that a 3% increase which was way more than we were short. I gave her cash as a tip because I didn't want them to take 3% off her tip if I put that on the Cc. Wish they had signage somewhere then I would have ordered accordingly. We were happy to see the kitchen was open because many places away from the city center tend to close earlier. Inside the bar area is separated on one side and the dining area on another. Decided to stop in on our way home from Darien Lake one Friday evening. As it turns out we were a little late for the fish fry since the mentioned they were out before seating us. Bummer... We just re-discovered this place yesterday. I had been there a long time ago under other owners. There are a LOT of options on the menu that are not available at other places. Chrissy; our server did a great job of helping us make our choices. It did take some time! Lobster Bisque, Steak Gorgonzola Pasta and Hog Wings were our selections. The meat was super tender and the roll may have been made in house or perhaps by a local baker, because it was different from our traditional ones around here, but it was really good! I've been to Black Water a many times. My husband and I decided to go for a fish fry. Upon ordering our waitress informed us that they were out of tartar sauce. We ordered the fish anyway. Who runs out of Tatar sauce on fish fry Friday. It was very discouraging considering that the restaurant could have sent someone to the store to get relish and make some. I have been in their twice. My niece had her baby shower there and I was there for lunch. The baby shower was very nice and we enjoyed the afternoon. The appetizer of pretzels was yummy. And the food was banquet style everything was delicious. I returned for lunch and the specials were a little difficult to understand on the board. My friend, she had the salad and we shared the fries. I also got a special which was a philly style sandwich. It was ok.
