When I lived in Dallas I came here practically every week. For a long time, practically my whole wardrobe came from here. The quality of clothes is good, there's a good variety, you can find designer or vintage items at low prices, it's easy to search by size, and they had a lot in my size (XS - S). But lately there's been a decline in the service. The people who worked there used to recognize me from coming in all the time; they used to always ask customers who were carrying a ton of clothes if they could start a dressing room; they used to remind us of the token/bag system (not that I needed reminding); they used to just be friendly and professional people. Lately there's just been a huge turnover in people who work there, I don't recognize anyone, they don't recognize me, they don't offer me help, and when I was selling my clothes, the woman at the counter forgot I was there and let someone else go ahead of me in line even though I was standing right there looking at the jackets. Hello! This is your entire job! Also, I am increasingly baffled with how they decide what to buy. Like I said, most of my clothes come/came from here and similar places. I get that they are only taking things that are in fashion, and I know that they only take what is in season, but... is the full-length skirt I bought just a couple months previous really so out of fashion you can't even buy it? I have been to this place a few times in the past. I love the clothes, the prices are a lil high, and the parking is terrible... absolutely terrible. There are 3 ways to get to this place: 1) go to one of the near by restaurants to park and eat and then walk over, 2) park a block away and walk, or 3) Uber/Lyft. Today, I tried to drop off clothes and circled for 20 minutes. I had some great stuff to drop off too. I gave up and went to run an errand. I came back, circled for another 20 minutes. Those stars represent ALL of the amazing finds over the years. I have been going to Buffalo Exchange for several years, at least 13 or 14. I have literally been to Buffalo from coast to coast and everywhere in between. It's so funny how different they are. I would have to say Austin Buffalo is my favorite! It's rare that I don't find anything. Although the clothes keep you coming back, the people that work there are either ABSOLUTELY AMAZING or REALLY??!! I'm talking in terms of friendliness and attitude. Back in the day (ask any true blue Buffalo shopper), the staff used to be like family, sometimes greeting you by your name as you came in. I guess it's gotten too busy for that, but I do miss it. I've never had anyone be outright rude so I will continue to go to this paradise of hidden treasures! For a resale shop, they're not too shabby. They usually carry a plethora of fashionable, trendy, and vintage finds, but some of them could easily be found at Goodwill for much less. Buffalo simply eliminates the treasure hunt aspect. They also tend to be picked over, which is expected since this is located right in the heart of Hipster Central that is Lower Greenville. All in all, a nice addition to the neighborhood. Go for lunch at Cafe Brazil, walk a block to Buffalo Exchange, and then end your day with a show at the Granada Theater. read more

One of the last times I came here, I purchased a camo field jacket and it had a roach clip. This time, I purchased a pair of boots and there was a twelve step sobriety coin in it. Parking here is a PAIN, but I have a great time looking through the clothes racks here. It does tend to be a little more expensive than your average thrift store because they have such great finds. They're really picky about what they buy, and I've never tried to sell my clothes here before, but my roommate got like, $15 for a pair of J. Crew corduroys that she basically never wore. She felt a little cheated, but she mentioned that considering they would have wasted away in her closet otherwise, it was worth it. The shoes always seem to be too quirky for me, and I don't think the shirts are so special and cheap that it's worth it to go through the many racks at Buffalo versus just going to a department store. I go to Buffalo and immediately check out the dresses. My first time there, I got a really cute dress that was originally from Urban Outfitters for $15, which I thought was a great buy. I've gone two more times, but haven't yet found anything that catches my attention, which is not discouraging. One really great thing Buffalo does is they sometimes throw parties, and if you dress up to fit their theme, you get a coupon. For example, the day after Halloween, if you showed up in costume, you could get $5 off on a purchase. read more

I haven't had much luck finding items to buy here, so this review is based on my consignment experience which has been hit-or-miss: it depends on the staff member you get, so my 3 stars is for the inconsistency. But it's nice to at least have the option to sell, and they donate everything else to homeless shelters so it saves you a trip to Genesis or the Salvation Army. The key is to be forward-looking in season when you plan to re-sell: they especially liked my white jeans and bright tops even though it was chilly February. There's a blackboard listing the items they're currently looking for. Call ahead if you're not sure. Brand name matters a lot too: my Mango dress is made of better fabric than my J. Crew and American Eagle items, but they barely considered the former because it's such an obscure brand. Buffalo Exchange-I'm definitely a fan. The prices are higher than Goodwill or Salvation Army but the quality is a whole lot better. You don't have to wade through racks of worn out, garage sale type stuff just to find one gem, there's gems all over the store. Both my daughters found their prom dresses there, one was a little Betsy Johnson number for about $20. We've gotten more cool and weird t-shirts there than I can count, most under $10. As far as selling goes, it does seem like they rejected things I thought they would surely take. I think part of it has to do with what season they are buying for... When I'm down in that area, it's a really fun place to spend some time and find some cool new (old) clothes. read more

As a Dallas resident, I have been buying and selling at Buffalo Exchange, quite literally since they opened their doors. Over the last two years I have noticed a drastic decline in the store; more stock type items, less unique, vintage clothing as they once were known for. I'm by no means a "clothes snob", but I've always really enjoyed eclectic, quality, vintage and couture clothing. So, needless to say, when I take my clothing there to sell, I know their expectations after so many years. I shop frequently and change my closet out, so I always have a fresh selection of really nice things to take in for consignment. The staff changes so very often and they are always training new ones, so it's really not their fault that they don't know what they're buying or not. With that being said, I went in today and had taken in baskets of high-end shoes and clothing. The young girl who was helping me was very nice. I've seen her on several occasions and know that she has not worked at the store for long, but that she was doing her best. Standing next to her was another buyer who was wearing Winnie The Pooh pajamas. I'm all about freedom of expression. In fact, I know that this is a very hipster place and the employees are encouraged to wear whatever makes them feel good, so I'm completely alright with that. The problem is my particular buyer pulled out so many pieces of clothing and shoes that she wanted to purchase from me, but every time that she asked her associate, who clearly was over her, how much she should accommodate for a price, the associate wearing the pajamas would look at each piece that she pulled from my baskets and would say, "I'd pass on that". She did it so many times that I finally said, "Why did I even bother bringing anything in here?" Ironically, this past year, I was perusing through Amazon and purchased two shawls. When they arrived in the mail, I was horrified! Lol They were supposed to have been suede, but were instead fabricated of a tissue like fabric that tore like paper when tugged on. They were atrocious. Well, guess what...? Those horribly, cheaply made items that I inadvertently put in my Buffalo basket, rather than my trash bag, are what they accepted! I couldn't believe it. This place is so disappointing. They really overprice their clothing, which is good for the person who sells them the stuff, but they never buy anything. Most of the clothes there are old cheap mass-produced crap. The shoes they have scream sweatshop. It's so frustrating to sell here because you look around while they go through your clothes and all you see is two to three year old Ross, old navy, and forever 21 stuff and then they don't buy any of your stuff. Don't bother selling here unless you have urban outfitters crap. I had very nice quality etsy stuff (yknow that vintagey stuff, nineties floral etc) and they wouldn't take it. I had multiple beautiful maxi skirts, dresses, and some really cute fit and flare stuff and all they took was three year old BDG tank tops from urban. They don't buy quality shit. Also the store smells horrible and the employees are so high and mighty it's exhausting. What a waste of time. read more

I adore this place! Just came in for my first time and they have amazing designer items(some even new with tags). Everything is organized and presented nicely. And did I mention how affordable everything is for what you are getting? Really sweet and knowledgable staff too. The only reason I'm not giving this store five stars is because they are super picky about what they'll accept when you bring in your clothes. I recognize that this is Part of the reason their selection is so fab but if they do decide to take in your clothes you get 30% cash back or 50% in store credit based off of what they price the piece at. read more

Hmmm. I'm torn on Buffalo Exchange. While I've been super happy with a few key items I've found here (super cute pair of earrings, adorable stretchy black belt, a few pairs of shoes), in general I don't find too much. Maybe I'm spoiled. I'm one of those weird folk who buys secondhand designer jeans from ebay, and somehow they always miraculously fit like a glove. And I swear every single pair of pants I've ever tried on here makes me feel like I'm a giant from Jack & the Beanstalk. The hems are always ridiculously short. Considering how picky they are with the clothes they accept, it seems strange that after months of combing through the racks, I couldn't find more than 3 pairs that even had a CHANCE of fitting me. Alas, no. Apparently at 5 foot 8 I'm the non-asian, female equivalent of Yao Ming. I know. it was a surprise for me too. On to the good things about Buffalo exchange. Shoes, dresses and handbags. Sometimes you have to dig, but I've found lots of cute semi-formal dresses here, and tons of cute shoes. If you're a leggings fan you can get some nifty ones here for super cheap. Tops and shirts can be hit or miss, personally I find them a smidge on the expensive side for what they are. Normally I can find a shirt I like, but I rarely find one I like enough to pay $15 for. I live literally a block away so if I'm bored I'll go peruse the selection. If it weren't so convenient location-wise I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to make a trip for it. read more

I went in here not expecting much - but I fell in love with the place. I loved the selecting of clothes and accessories. I scored a cute t-shirt blouse from torrid for $4 and a couple pins for $2 and $3 each. My only complaint would be parking. Major headache. Another complaint would be their sizing signage. It would be nice to got to the dress section and browse through the larges instead of having to sort through every single rack in hopes of finding the size you need. I almost left straight off because for some reason I thought that they didn't organize by size-but since they have the greatest customer service I have ever experienced, I left with awesome $6 galaxy tights that I've been wanting for forever, a new with tags tulle vintage style midi skirt for $20, cute cateye shades $8, bling chain $8, and cute sheer neon top $7! I can't wait to go back. I will say though that if I was a size small I would have spent like $400 in there because they have amazingly cute stuff in a size small but I'm a large so it was harder to find good stuff but like I said I will be looking for an excuse to return in the near future! read more

This Buffalo does a great job of keeping styles to fit most anyone's taste along with their line of affordable accessories. Upon my recent trip, I scored a brand new Patagonia jacket with the tags still on, 2 dresses, a cardigan, blouse and 2 rings for under $100. There was also a special section dedicated to the Halloween season. Staff is friendly and the playlist rocked jams from St. Vincent to Mariah Carey -- happy shopping indeed! read more

You can definitely spend a whole afternoon here. I saw clothes ranging from lululemon to white house black market. Staff here are so friendly- would definitely come back. I was hesitant to try out clothes there (how do I know if it was washed or not?) But I'm glad I did because some of the clothes (though pretty on the hanger) did not fit me too well (it was a tad too big). I found this great maxi dress but when I tried it on I found a tear - which I would've missed easily had I not tried it. read more

I went to sell my clothes and the ladies took one look at them and told me they would only take one cropped yellow off the shoulder top in January when it is 45 degrees outside. When I asked why they would only take that one they said it was the only one in season and the only item of clothing for the transitioning season when I had many name brand clothing items from spring and winter as well. Very disappointed with the employees and their knowledge of seasons and clothing. Being that I work in retail, am disappointed with their assessment of clothing. read more

I have been going to this buffalo exchange for years and recently raved about how awesome it was on face book only to be made a liar! First of all, I was offended when I was trying to sell my real vintage stuff and they were passing on it like it was trash. Then I realized that the girls that were "buying", or on this day, NOT buying, had the fashion sense of a toddler. No I take that back because my toddler was the most fashionable person in the store yesterday. The arrogant slob helping me was wearing a crop top with her stretch marked stomach hanging out, which resembled that of a hippo. Adding insult to injury, it was a shirt that said Save the Darfur. Maybe you could send them some of your Twinkies? Just saying. As they were passing on ALL of my clothes, I looked around at some of the clothes on the manikins, and in my opinion, a store that was once full of truly unique clothes for people with a strong sense of fashion, is now a sad, overpriced, overfilled closet where clothes go to die. read more

I like that they don't take damaged items because it means the quality is better. Good place to shop if you like clothes from 2-5 years ago. Not quite vintage or new. Definitely don't sell your clothes here as they are very picky, unless your items are lace and floral things from H&M and Forever 21. They turned down all my designer items and I'm not sure anyone in this store knows what's in style enough to qualify them to buy items. Go to Plato's Closet in flower mound. I never thought I would be doing this, but I am writing a review on a previous place of employment. Being on both sides of the fence, as a buyer at this location and seller/customer, I feel I can write an impartial review. Friends of mine used to complain about their Buffalo experience, and I think I'm starting to get a taste for what they were talking about all these years. For first timers coming to shop and sell, be aware of the parking situation. This is not a mega chain with a giant parking lot; it's a historic neighborhood. Park on McCommas and other side streets. Walk. It is what is; it's not gonna hurt you. If you're selling, bring along someone to help you lug stuff in. There is often a line. Jump in line; there's no sign up sheet. Make sure to have a valid government issued ID (nonexpired). Do not abandon your spot to shop; you will lose it. The employees are not always the quickest at the buy counter; some are still in training mode, and you never know how much stuff people in line have ahead of you. Bring a book or a project. You've been given the gift of time. As a seller in the past, I've had a relatively decent experience. Since I know what they are looking for (since I used to buy at this location), I usually do pretty okay. (For the record, they take mall brands from the last couple of seasons and vintage and retro that reflects the trends. Basically they buy what you are currently wanting to wear, so if you're bringing in castoffs from years ago, you might strike out. Same with office attire, biz casual, prom dresses, etc they just don't sell). On this particular occassion, I brought in a bag mixed with current mall brands and some fun cool retro. They bought a jacket and a couple other things but passed on most of it including a Zara skirt (that is still currently being sold in the Zara store I might add) and several cool retro and vintage pieces that my friends later bought right off me the following day. Seeing as how I know (for the most part) what they typically take, I was quite surprised and frankly a little frustrated that they had only bought 3 pieces out of like 40. If someone who used to buy for them gets 80% of their stuff turned down, I can't imagine what the average person coming into the store for the first time must feel. I would advise you as a first time seller to ask questions while they do your buy and to stay up there with them; do not wander off. And if you are a seasoned seller, get a second opinion if something was passed on and needs a double take. Often times their newer buyers have not finished their training and are left on their own and do not know what they are doing. I don't recommend selling pre back to school, really any holiday or any Saturday. (It will be busy. Everyone has the same idea as you to clean out the closet on the same days and times of year.) This store is very hit or miss in terms of shopping. Sometimes I find some amazing goodies; other times I find things on the rack and wonder why the passed on my Diane von Furstenburg dress and bought this particular ripped/hideous/dated item. But that is just part of the Buffalo Exchange experience. If you see a higher price tag, chances are its a designer item in or new merchandise (they do get new stuff shipped in directly from vendors). Keep in mind that this is NOT a thrift store. Everything has been presifted (for the most part), so you won't have the thrift store pricing or experience. For everyone who complains that they are overpriced, keep in mind that there are just as many people complaining that they didn't get enough money for the item they sold. So yeah, the store tries, but they can't win em' all. The store is usually understaffed, so don't expect top notch customer service. Dressing rooms are adequate, ten items in at a time. So yes, as a past employee, I'm usually okay with my experience here. I've just come to know what to expect. But in terms with this visit, I was not happy at the buy counter. They missed out on some decent pieces that, chances are, will be bought in the next time I come in to sell with a different buyer. If one buyer tells you they aren't taking coats because it's too close to being spring, another buyer next to them will tell you they are still buying coats because it's still cold out. There is no consistency with the store, and there never will be. You might strike out shopping wise, but you might also win at times with a great vintage tee or awesome designer piece for a steal. You might get a crummy buyer still training who passes on your goods or you might get a generous and informed guy or gal who buys everything you bring. Such is the roulette at that store. And this time was not a happy one for me. I understand both sides of the argument, but as of this last experience, I also understand the frustration that comes with selling to under trained and overworked employees and incosistent buying habits. read more

I hate to give this review but I've been holding off for a long time, in hopes that something would change. I've been shopping here since 2004 and at the time it was definitely a place that was one of a kind. They bought original pieces and and good quality brands. They would mix this w/local brands from the community as well so it was guaranteed to find a great piece every visit. I also have sold here for many years. I've always invested in my clothes but when I bought a good deal from somewhere and just never got around to wearing it, I could bet my money that BE would buy it, depending on the season. Keeping all of this in mind for years I've been pretty successful with the buy, trade and sale concept they have. Recently however, it seems to have gone down the drain w/what is being bought and sold. The "expert" buyers are people who go off of mood and will each tell you something different. Example: I went in today (first day of spring) w/a Torn by Ronny Kobo dress, yellow knit w/tags and great condition. Retails for $179 and clearly I just thought getting $10-20 for it would be cool...NOPE! She told me that although T they are taking spring dresses, she has to consider what they have. Okay so you think that this dress wouldn't sell faster that a XXI dress would? I'm not the only one disappointed in their inventory. They have now attracted the cheap buyer and don't care to get them back. Another item was a DVF brown spring wrap dress, retails for almost $300, again, same excuse. I remember when this place used to be booming w/people and amazing pieces. Now it's sad to say but they might as well turn into Plato's closet. They have definitely lost their integrity in the resale game. Sucks!
