The new location on Shepherd is nice - feels like the same amount of space as their old spot on Westheimer, but the racks feel a little closer together (is it just me?). Also, less space to try on shoes or wait in line at the Buy Counter. Same amazing finds, eclectic mix of new and old, every price range is well represented, many "needles" in the "haystack", fair pricing, well organized by type of garment and size, clean fitting rooms, good lighting, music that doesn't give me a headache, etc. SAME GREAT STAFF (familiar and new faces)! Friendly as always. Today was only day 2 at their new location, so hopefully it was just a one time thing, but PLEASE turn the AC on full blast! It was so hot today I couldn't take my time and shop around - and it's only February! The staff was offering paper fans to customers to help deal with the heat inside, but I hope they start cranking the AC soon. "Any plans for the weekend" "doin anything fun" "what do you do for a living" . The funny part is how they change the tone of voice when they ask you, it's so fake and rude to ask personal question. They only give 35% in cash so they can keep the rest of the money. (taxiiii taxi gives 50% of what they sell for) i brought in cute things from hong kong and they didn't give even half of the price it was worth. The only labels they care about are american. I've always like Buffalo Exchanges... You will definitely find some really cool stuff but you should also be prepared to pay a premium. Besides Pac Sun or Urban Outfitters, this place carries a great selection that varies from "shit, this looks great" to "OMG Sally, diz be lookin' gud on me? I love buying vintage clothing so I thought Buffalo Exchange would be a good place to buy and sell - however, it is not good for either of these things. If you're looking to buy vintage, Houston has a whole army of shops that have much better deals. Buffalo Exchange has regular mall prices on used clothing that you can find just about anywhere - nothing special. Trying to sell to Buffalo Exchange is also a hassle and an insult. They pay absolutely nothing for what they are willing to accept then mark it up like 700% for sale. It takes a long time for them to go through your items and you'll leave with a few bucks for your trouble. There are so many other second hand stores I would rather shop in Houston. While in the Montrose area, I finally checked out the much raved about Buffalo Exchange that my cousin enjoys. While it is not necessarily my scene as far as style, there are some rather fun and funky finds to spruce up an existing wardrobe. I managed to find some interesting tops but much of the items are on the very petite super slender side when it came to jeans and shorts. There is not much for the curvy types except some cute dresses and skirts. The clothes are organized well and are labeled to distinguish the different categories. As others have mentioned the clothing is not as dirt cheap as the Salvation Army Thrift Store, but comparable to other resale shops along Montrose Boulevard. When it comes to selling do not fall in love with the items you are trying to give up. It is a complete mystery as to what they may want to buy from you. Labeled brands do not guarantee a buy from BE. I suggest looking at the most current trends found in Elle, Jane, Rolling Stones, etc... Also consider a season ahead. There is always a good amount of traffic going through the store, from those looking for a good find to those selling their clothes. Parking can be a little difficult to come by in the area. read more

I've shopped at this location a couple of times in the past and have found some nice pieces. This time, I bought a few tops and while I was at the register I noticed that one of the tops had a stain on it so I asked if they would consider discounting it and to my surprise they would not. No problem - I just let that one go. Sooo I left with my other clothes feeling good about the cheap prices I had just paid ($7 - $17). When I got home to wash the items I bought, I noticed that there were 2 big holes in one of of my tops that I didn't notice while in the store. Bummer! I don't even want to go through the hassle of returning this item, but wanted to put it out there that they don't seem to mind selling tarnished clothing items so check your stuff thoroughly. And be sure to wash your items you buy from here, because I noticed that some of their clothes still had the faint scent of perfume/cologne on them. When I washed my items, the dirt that came out was horrific. Consider yourself warned! read more

Walking into the store, you immediately notice the smell. I used to come to Buffalo Exchange back in high school, when escaping Meyerland for Montrose was necessary to ensure my survival (I don't think I'm the only one). It smelled back then, but this escaped my notice. Instead, I would spend hours going through the racks to find that perfect $7 skirt or $10 blouse...some of which I still own...(after several "What Not To Wear" marathons in the last few months I'm planning a thorough inspection of my closet). Back in high school I had hours to spend in a smelly store, buying three year old skirts from Express. Now I'm older, wiser, have a salary, and a sense of smell. And I also don't appreciate seeing clothes I just bought on sale at Target for twice the price (and used!) at Buffalo. The prices are way too high, the merchandise absolutely sub-par, and you'll do better going to Goodwill for a deal. read more

Buffalo Exchange is okay. The staff is pretty friendly and the store is clean and bright. They have cute displays in the front of potential outfits and a majority of their clothes are up to date. For a second hand store, they are a little pricey (compared to others) shirts run for about 8 - 10 bucks but I've found very similar clothes in similar shape for less than that. As with most second hair stores, you have to look through everything to find something you may like. The store isn't color coded or anything. They are VERY particular about the style of clothes you give. they have to be current. I brought a lot of clothes, many that have never been worn and had the tag still on them, and they didn't buy them. not because of the quality but because it wasn't "hipster" so I would go back, maybe just to browse, but it wouldn't be my first choice read more

Excellent selection of gently used pre owned clothes. The women selection seems to be much better than the mens but I've been able to score some really good finds. On my last trip I found an awesome pair of True Religion jeans and a Diesel shirt. On other trips I've struck out and not been able to find anything. The best times to go seem to be during the week when it's not so crowded and there are less people shopping. If you want to sell your stuff they are kind of picky on what they take in. read more

OK. There were a number of things I wasn't a fan of about this place. I will say right off the bat that this place isn't for me but there are other reasons why I gave it this rating. Overall I just thought it wasn't worth it. If you like name brands then this place can be for you, to me I don't. I can buy a used Express shirt for 21 bucks here or I could go to a place like Marshalls and get a button down shirt for less. Sure it isn't the same quality but that isn't an issue for me. I was just amazed at the prices for these used clothes. I could get better deals on new clothes. Which to me takes away from the idea of "exchange." So my gf brought a bag into the store to trade and they took one item for 7 bucks credit. I guess they look for a certain style because the stuff she brought in was in good condition. I also saw a few other people walk out with loads of their clothes back to their car, assuming they didn't get anything for them. Also the parking here is horrible. Well there is a good number of spots yet this place was packed. In the end I can see why people could like this place. Ugh, it's such a hit or miss. I think they've jacked up the prices so you'll have to find some secondhand thing that you really really like. I do like how big their selection is. It's really incredible, compared to the stores in Dallas and Philadelphia (yes, random, but now all I need to cover is the West coast). There's a whole array of high-end stuff (my fav is BCBG) and a great range of sizes for both sexes. I love to come here when I'm in need of a dress, fancy or cas, because I know I'll be able to find one that's in a category of its own. Note to sellers: They're picky and like either really vintage, odd, designer, or current season items. And all those types of things, I am personally already wearing and not giving away. This store is very well organized. They've got the hipster music setting the mood, the staff are all friendly and uniquely dress and the selection is great. However, like others have mentioned this place is overpriced. I will not pay $25 for a used shirt. Jean $20 and a pair of worn Kate Spade loafers for $45. I realize that pricing can be adjusted based on the brand but be serious people. I can go to a first hand retail stores clearance rack for these prices. I knew it was time for me to leave when I picked up an unfamiliar branded and clearly worn clutch for $60. Chile please! Not sure if they have a day when you get like 25% off or something like that. They put a price on items based on opinions, which is very concerning. If an associate has no knowledge on brands, trends, quality, etc, they will turn to the manager and ask what price the item should be, then the manager will make up a number based on what she/he thinks is the right price. Big brand names isn't what they're aiming for. They buy things from you if it's "in style" or "in season". Again, it's all based on opinions. I have been a customer at this location for several years and I have spent a lot of money for clothes for my teenage sons. I recently decided to try to sell some clothing and shoes at this location. I took 50 articles (it state on their website that you cannot take more than 50). I made an appointment and followed all protocol per COVID. They notified me of what they would offer me for the articles they had picked out of my 50 articles (which by the way was a measly $16, but I digress). When she called to offer me the money, I quickly told her that I would like to pick up my articles because that wasn't a reasonable amount for me. She proceeded to act appalled that I was coming to pick up my things and then informed me that she was essentially "doing me a favor" by even allowing me to come pick up my items. She said, "for future reference, all sales are final and you cannot come and pick up the items" I was NEVER told this as I would never have taken my items if I had known this. She was cold and acted pissed that I had wasted her time. I asked her if this policy was stated on the website and she said, "we tell everyone when they call and make an appointment." Just FYI, I was not told this and didn't appreciate her tone. Don't want to be a Karen but this shit was wack. read more

I thought that the selection here was great. They really were able to cull through typical thrift stuff or receive good material. Found a cute dress that I usually wouldn't be able to find. It's a very clean, tidy store with a hipsters attitude, can tell by the mannequins and the way people dress in there. Liked it. A small, but annoying downer is that it's a pretty popular store. My absolute favorite clothing recycling/thrift store in Houston! While cleaning out my closet I always bring in my clothes and if they don't buy them off me they'll donate them to a non-profit that is able to utilize my clothes. On the other hand, I always find nice tops and blouses at Buffalo Exchange, I've perused the shoes and jewelry and made some nice additions to my accessory collection. Because the shop is on Weistheimer, parking is a commodity that is hard to come by. When I stop in first thing in the mornings when the store opens I'm able to get a spot in the lot, otherwise, I normally have luck on the side street, parking in the dirt but NOT behind the store. That is a no-no zone where you'll risk getting towed when you park there. read more

Hmmm, while I am not a thrift store enthusiast yet, I feel like this is a great trendy, thrift store. You just have to frequently shop it often to get great deals because the good deals go fast! I also have sold some items here in the past and feel I was compensated decently IMO. I know that every time I go, I always find huge hits for my man at home. He loves the men's selection in jeans. So over the last year we have purchased on several different occasions, about 16 pairs of jeans. The staff always are very friendly. Parking usually sucks in this area, so be prepared to park on the street or in the back of building with HUGE potholes... Definitely worth a look see! read more

My friend bought a top that was forever 21 brand for $11 from here and two days later I saw that EXACT top on the forever 21 website on sale for $7.99. The store in general has a lot of variety. If you're lucky, you'll find a few good pieces here and there. As for the brands they carry, there will be pieces from well known generic stores and name brand items (rarely). Service: The workers weren't friendly or welcoming at all. When you walk in, don't expect to be greeted. They are very much in there own world, and half of them give you this attitude like don't talk to me. As if they are irritated to help the customer out. Price: I personally think most of the items are overly price for items being second hand. Yes, it may have been cheaper than buying it in store but still hefty for a used item. Although there will be some items that's worth the spending. Quality: Many of the clothes are still in good shape but there plenty with marks, stains, rips, etc. Plus with that in mind, they still try to sell the items at a pricey margin. Ex: My friend found this wonderful silky kimono type robe, the tag says $30 while there's a hole rip at least 6 in long along the arm area read more

One black girl is particularly curt and rude (she's real skinny) and is not helpful at all. Once I sold some clothes and I asked what they bought and she snapped she didn't have time to help me. So happy when I make the trip here and I am so disappointed when I don't find a single thing. I can rummage through all the racks for hours and there are those days where its really a shot in the dark. Although spending my Saturdays shopping for a really great find can be a little frustrating, I have to say I really love the rush. I think its the not knowing what you're going to walk out with is part of the drama. Its a good day when you can find designer things in your size, right color and in great condition. Last time I was here I did find a really great TShirt that I wear quite often but I do think the $20 that I paid was a not a bargain. I could have gone elsewhere and spent at least $5 less, but that didn't stop me so I guess I should stop complaining about it. There jewelry is pretty cute too, nice but small collection. Staff is helpful. I often sell/donate my clothes here as well. Either get a store credit or receive cash. Parking completely sucks but that is nothing new. It's been a couple if years since I sold jeans here. On 6/23/12, I stopped by with some shoes and old Lucky jeans. NO BUY :(! Manager said they were looking for bigger size jeans 6+ for women and were stocked with shoes. For men, they looking for any size jeans and button down shirts. Can't be mad that they didnt buy my stuff. One annoying thing did happen was the fact that one of the sales clerks checking a customer's clothes was TALKING and taking too long on one person. Prices do vary from time to time; I have found really dope shoes, sweaters, hats & shirts for dirt cheap. I have also passed on a bunch of shirts & jackets there because the price was too "high" and I didnt want it that much. So I guess everything depends on who prices the clothes when they first come in which Im sure varies. This place is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you going to get till you open the door and walk around. It had been years since I visited this place but one day on a whim, I stopped in and found some cute stuff and then I thought maybe I'll try to sell some things here, I'm due for a closet clean out. I remember why I haven't been in so long. I was greeted by a very busy employee who was sorting through clothing and said to "jump in line" with a bunch of other people waiting yet, I had no idea where the line began or Ended. I felt maybe a sign in sheet would have made sense, and when I asked if I could look around while waiting I was told I had to stay and wait "it was first Come first serve" again, that makes no sense for this situation. I waited for an entire hour- the girl who was working alone carefully looking through everyone's clothes seemed like she cared about what she was taking and not taking, and also seemed very respectful of the items. The second it was finally my turn to go up, another girl magically became available to help the original lone employee. This new girl who was looking through my things seemed nice, yet didn't seem to give anything in my bag even ONE look. Said they were looking for summer items when earlier the other employee was telling another customer they were taking all seasons. My clothes I must add were NOT your typical chain store clothes- I had lots of modcloth, free people, boutique clothing- many things with tags still on or dry cleaning tags- she barely LOOKED at any of it. Here's where I really got offended: when I bring you a bag of items that are all nicely folded with dry cleaning tags, ok fine, if you don't take it, that's your business, but don't BALL IT UP AND THROW IT BACK IN MY BAG. That is very rude- I expect things to come back to me like I brought them to you. The reviews about this place are quite interesting to read- I do believe it's all about who you get looking through your stuff, which is frustrating because it's all chance basically. But at least have a better procedure when people are coming in and having to wait, and what you tell customers- everyone should be on the same page, and lastly respect people's belongings especially when you know it's hard enough that our items weren't accepted- return it to the customer like you received it. read more

I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews. Sure prices are a little high, but they specialize in random knick knacks. The staff is always willing to help with items, and finding "just the right thing." No one bothers you when you are playing around with the inventory either. I got 3 shirts for what I would have paid for ONE at express. Sure, it is crowded on the racks, but I can never beat a good bargain. I even got a blouse by my fave designer, Marc Jacobs for $17.00. Never bought anything from here, but been here to browse often while shopping down lower Westheimer. From going through the racks, I have seen alot of pretty good condition designer jeans for around $30 to $40 and random brands of shirts, dresses, pants, men's clothing, etc. You will find Juicy Couture pieces to Mossimo (Target) stuff. The shoe selection can be a fun treasure hunt. I seen DIOR sneakers for $29 in good condition to various cool and bright colored Nikes to PRADA pumps, etc. During Halloween time, you can find some costumes sold here too and I noted that they were pretty fun costumes, a few bucks cheaper than the costume shop cause it is resale. But hey, you only wear it once right? About the customer service. I only been a browser but I did note that everytime I step foot into the store, I been greeted by more than one employee. Yes, it is quite a busy store and lots is going on from people shopping to people selling back clothes. It is chaos, but organized chaos. I have not dealt with rude people here. When I leave the store, I been told "Have a Nice Day" even if I did not buy anything. I still have not found something I like at Buffalo Exchange to purchase, but coming here to browse with an open mind is fun. read more
