I was in the neighborhood and filling got to check out this Buffalo Exchange. Different vibe from the BK location: smaller, more brands, less weird "hipster" stuff (but it was there, in the form of sequin jackets!). I didn't buy anything but I saw a lot of great summer pieces (jean jackets, shorts, dresses). Don't know if I would go out of my way to shop at this location but I would recommend it if you're in the area, ready to shop, and don't want to spend a lot. read more

I always love coming to Buffalo Exchange, and especially enjoy this particular location! This week, I found a pair of gorgeous, dark cherry colored Doc Martens for under $40. You can't beat finding a $120 shoe for less than half the price, and in spectacular condition! They don't mess around here at Buffalo. Their dressing rooms are also very clean, which is a major plus, because that's often hard to find when thrift shopping in NYC. Their clothing is also always sorted in a manner that makes it easy to sift through items to find whatever you need by size or style. Meh. I picked up a Phillip Lim 3.1 sweater coat priced at $75 and then I noticed the giant pills all over it. Same with a sheer asymmetrical sweater in cobalt blue-pills on the sleeves. Shoes were really hard to look at as the shelf was above head height. Annoying. It was pretty crowded so I guess there are bargains to be had but this was not my favorite Buffalo Exchange. read more

I used to walk by here when I am on my way to Veniero's. It has a pretty attractive paint exterior but upon my entrance, I couldn't help but feel this is just another thrift shop. They do attempt to organize their clothing by style. I am not a second-hand or hands-down kind of gal but it's interesting to see shops like this across the city in which people would purchase their clothes from. The clothes are not really super cheap either and it certainly isn't to my taste. Still very nice to see that people appreciate the value of used goods. read more

I love to vintage shop at the Buffalo store in LES. Lots of cool stuff, some are better priced than others. I got a new pair of shoes of gold Nikes for 23.00 $ ( I saw a few similar knock offs in other stores around the area) my friend found a nice button down shirt. I had a really great first time experience here this afternoon. All the employees were really sweet, two in particular, Brad, who helped me with my sell, and Mary, who is one of my mutual friends. They took a good amount of my clothes which always makes for a good visit. It's a little but more cramped than the Chelsea location (which is the Buff I used to frequent), but they have a pretty stellar selection. I copped a few nice tees ($8-$30- the more expensive was designer and not your typical fabrication for a t-shirt) and a super rad denim crop top ($14). The assortment will vary with every visit, but it seems like the buyers here have a pretty good eye. read more

The lines to sell on weekends are really long. I once waited an hour and a half, only to be turned down because they were already stocked in things I was selling. The 30% they give you for the items they chose to resell, is a bit low when you take into account they offer you less money than their store in Wiliamsburg. But I once did find an awesome restructured dress for $16 dollars. You can get most dresses for under $25 bucks, some still have tags (mostly people who buy brands at loehmann's on sale and try to make money off them by reselling). It's worth a stop if you're in the neighborhood. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this particular BE. Considering it's in Manhattan I figured it would be overpriced, stuffy, and completely ransacked. However, after spending about 30 minutes in here browsing I walked out with several nice, name brand sweaters (J. Crew and Jones New York), a really cool vintage zip up hoodie with a caduceus logo stitched on the back, and a small collection of funky t-shirts and unique scarves for thrift store prices. Not "consignment" or "vintage" thrift stores. Definitely worth a look if you're in the neighborhood! read more

I popped into the store a few days ago and I'm glad I did. I left with a polka dot dress, a beautiful sheer orangey dress and a necklace with the words " love" on it. All for less than 30 bucks. I couldn't believe no one picked up the dresses before me as there were so many people already in the shop. I didn't bother looking at the shoes since it started getting really crowded. The staff covering the dressing room wasn't the friendliest person but that didn't bother me. read more

This store is a hit or miss but I went recently and got Juicy flats that are normally $150 dollars for a amazing $27 dollars. My friend also found a great deal she got true religion jeans for twenty something dollars. I also spotted a Marc jacobs blazer for an unbeliveibale twenty bucks and even a juicy winter coat for thirty two dollars. read more

This BE is medium in size. The customer service is mediocre at best, as the staff isn't very friendly and outgoing. The prices are decent; you can get cool things like doc martens for $60.00 or an American apparel skirt for a steal of $15.00. I've come here throughout all of the seasons and the best selection has always been during the summer, the winter and fall clothes are OK at best.. If you're considering selling they're kind of stingy on what they'll take from you. As far as selling goes you get half of what they'll sell your items for in store credit, and i believe a third in cash. Make sure you get there 15 minutes earlier than when it opens on the weekends because a lot of people are there to sell, but i can't speak on how bad it is on the weekdays. Overall this BE is decent, and you can find cool stuff, but it's not excellent. read more

Do NOT bring generic clothes from The Gap. Banana, etc. They do not have the space in this location. If you have anything with an upscale label or from any trendy store from the current season in perfect shape, you will get a decent few bucks. As for shopping, go during the week if you can. Weekends are too crowded and hectic! Very organized otherwise, and you can find a great buy here and there...hit or miss! Out of all the Buffalo Exchange locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn, I was most pleased by the selection and prices at this location. They seemed to always have exactly what I wanted and in the sizes I needed as well. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming and while it is a little bit cramped, I feel its totally worth it. read more

This shop is great! We have them in Dallas as well but they're not half as good as the ones here. I got a bunch of cute, high quality clothes for 75$. You do pay a little extra for the quality of the clothes, but it's worth it if you find a good piece. I bought an extremely gorgeous turtleneck sweater that retailed for 300, and I paid 40 for it. staff only buys from customers they know. they treat new people rude. i came 10 minutes early for my "appointment" and was told i was early. i come back in and the same sales rep that told me i was too early decides to see two people and make me wait. the reps knew the other customers and had no problem accepting all their stuff. when it was my turn they only took about 4 things. again, this location likes to buy from people they already know. working on a preferential treatment is not right when people are trying to donate in exchange. next time i'll just donate to a better cause instead of wanna be new yorkers working at a thrift shop. never again. read more

This place is great for shopping for items that are not high end. Like things from Juicy Couture, Old Navy, Gap, and several jean brands are found here. absolutely love this place because i ALWAYS find something every time i go. If you do not want to buy anything then do not go in the store, you'll be sucked in. The place is rather organized when it comes to keeping the sizes and shirts with shirts, jeans with jeans. There is a parking lot right down the street but you do have to pay so its best to just train it. You once in a while find Marc Jacobs, LAMB, Buffalo Industries and other more expensive things here. But all in all you will find some cheaper things, like from Forever 21 and even unknown brands that are way cool. read more

My selling experience was fine, Amanda, the manager evaluated my items and took one dress (that had been rejected the last time I was there) and rejected the rest, however she was friendly and respectful. I've sold there before and while you don't get much, it's better than having stuff you don't wear taking up space. I have also gotten a few pairs of jeans there, nice when they are already broken in! Get there early and don't expect them to take all of your stuff, I will probably go back at some point next season. read more

I have rarely written a review but i feel compelled. i have gone in to sell stuff many times and never have had a good experience. i went in on Saturday and they took or i should say stole 4 brand new expensive leather boots and shoes plus a pair of brand new sneakers and two tops and i got an insulting $50 in return. i was so flabagastered when i walked out and i should have refused their offer. They will sell these items for five times the amount that they gave me. i mean really $50 for all these items, i will never ever go in there again and i would rather donate the stuff rather than give it away to them, shame on them, they are thieves. read more

This place is great, especially if you're looking for something trendy or even designer, but definitely not if you're looking for real thrift prices. It's a fair trade if you think about it, paying more for a place that is more selective in their inventory. Items often range from 10 up to 20 bucks. Although if you're lucky like my friend, you might find gems like genuine Toms for 12$! And for the younger shoppers, in order to trade, you need to have a valid state ID such as drivers. I just went to the store to sell some of my clothes. And I happened to meet one of the most annoying girls I have ever met. She is the buyer staff, blond long hair and really loud voice and kind of has an attitude cause she is the person who is pricing the stuff you will be selling. She got distracted during the whole time she was examining my stuff, cause she saw this cute little puppy of one of other customer's. So she put my stuff on the counter and started bending down and played with the puppy and talking to the owner and completely ignore me and the rest of the people in line to sell their stuff for at least 5 mins. So we all have to stand there and watch her happily hold the puppy and chit chat!? Bad customer service is all i have to say. she was constantly talking and chatting to the other staff while doing her job. I don't think i will pay another visit to their store, I will just go to the one in BK. read more

Wow, simply WOW. W. O. W!!! I created my Yelp account today just so I could write a proper review to express my complete and absolute adoration of this store! I've been an avid thrifter for years and have never in my entire life had an experience as wonderful as I did today at the Buffalo Exchange in East Village. I came in looking for an outfit or two and met the most thoughtful, kind, and helpful individual named Frankie whom acted as my personal shopper and helped me to an extent of quality that puts Barney's Personal Shopping to shame! To shame I tell you! The entire staff was warm and friendly and left me not wanting to leave the store! I walked out with a bag filled with sensational pieces with some of the best prices I've ever seen in NYC thrift stores. These buyers have an insane eye for the crème de la crème of thrifted pieces. If you're trying to figure out which Buffalo Exchange location to visit this is it! 10/10! Will be coming in as soon as my next paycheck hits I'm in love! Unfortunately had a really bad experience selling here, the line wrapped around the corner (20 people long on a weekday afternoon) and the people's on register were just conversing for 40 minutes to a friend who was a customer (they were talking from before I went in until about 7 other customers were helped by the other person on register. I love the products in this store but the workers can be very self involved. I understand this is a busy location and no one can control the flux of people but time management could be done better. After selling here multiple times before I think I might just sell things online - more authentic prices and less anxiety and claustrophobia. Again all the products are quality and stylish and the workers are helpful and kind (I think it's a requirement to have nice skin and be beautiful to work there since everyone is) but selling can be a NIGHTMARE and feels like a waste of time when it's just friends chatting instead of working. read more

I went here the other day to try trading in some extra clothing that I had lying around my apartment. Little did I know what a waste of time I had signed up for. I should have known when a girl in front of me with a full suitcase of perfectly good clothing left with suitcase still completely full (Meanwhile, someone selling what looked like a pile of dirty skinny jeans and worn t-shirts made a significant profit.). Hoping for the best, I waited in line for another 45 minutes or so (4 other unfortunate consigners were ahead of me) and went up to sell my items. They spent about 15 minutes examining the clothing and making snide comments to each other about how the clothing didn't "fit their [exclusively hipster] needs." Long story short, they offered me barely $12 for a large shopping bag full of items. I will certainly never go here again. And, I warn people whose wardrobes are more eclectic than the "Urban Outfitters"-type hipster look not to even bother with this place. read more

It was super crowded. I went there to sell clothes and honestly, it wasn't worth it at the end of the day. At least one of my items should have returned more cash. Im a shoe whore and I had BRAND NEW $110 shoes that the cashiers were eyeballing and commented about, but I really received squat back for it. "bagless" my ass. their "go green initiative" is just a BS scam to get you into spending $2 on one of their hideous ed hardy knockoff tote bags that i will never reuse in my life and that probably use more plastic than twenty standard plastic shopping bags. i hope they realize that not providing complimentary shopping bags, no matter many items are being purchased, is a huge disservice to their customers. on the plus side, their employees actually attempt to make conversation with you, unlike beacon's closet. they are also cheaper than beacon's closet and will take more of your crap than beacon's closet. here's a tip: bring all your stuff to beacon's FIRST, then sell what they don't take to buffalo before you donate it, as buffalo will likely take some of the things beacon's looked over, even if it might be for a little bit less money. read more

I have to say the one on W 26th Street is MUCH better. This location is very congested with the racks and the people. There is also always a huge line to try on clothes. The shoes are inconveniently placed and unreachable. The selection of clothing is far less than the 26th Street location. read more

I really don't understand the way this place operates. The first time I brought my clothes here to sell, they gave me around fifty dollars in cash. The manager went through them and thanked me for coming in to sell my clothes, telling me I had great stuff...and my reasoning was if I was just going to donate it anyway, It was a win/win sitch. There was one Arden B shirt that had a small stain on it and the manager told me if I could get the stain out, she would buy the shirt the next time I came in. I thought for sure if I had clothes that I wanted to get rid of, that I'd totally take them here in the future. My progress with selling started to decline the second time I went in. The person who went through my things just kind of threw them around without even looking at them, including the shirt that the manager really liked ( I had successfully gotten the stain out ). He took a few things with a little bit of attitude, like he was doing me a favor because I must be unstylish or something and gave me peanuts for them. I decided to look around the store to see if I would find anything to make my trip worthwhile. I found a pair of cowgirl boots and with my store credit, which was $30.. I only paid $4 for them. I left feeling neutral about the place, but hopeful. On my third visit, I came with two giant bags of clothes and since I could not walk there on my own carrying the giant bags, I forked it over for a 9 dollar cab ride. This very unfashionable, zit ridden, glasses wearing person went through my stuff. She went through my things very hastily, completely just throwing PRADA sunglasses in perfect condition back into the bag, without even seeing they were PRADA. She threw juicy couture gloves to the side without checking the label on them. She didn't take a BCBG dress that I wore once and was current and in perfect condition. Stewart Weiztman shoes- didn't even look at. A vintage handbag worth over $100 on ebay she tossed aside because she was too stupid to figure out how to open it up and check inside. They also didn't take items from Michael Korrs, Cache, Bebe, a basic denim jacket from the gap in perfect condition, or a RAPLH LAUREN LEATHER JACKET in perfect condition. The one item they tried to buy from me was a Donald J. Pliner leather jacket that my parents bought me for $400. They wanted to give me $14.00 for it, or I could take $24 in store credit. They were listing it at $48. I really wasn't expecting much for the stuff and I said I'd take the store credit hoping to find something in there that would make this whole trip worthwhile. Well, I started getting a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach because I saw things in there that had $95 price tags for leather jackets that were ripped, stained, and certainly did not have an original retail value of $400. I spent a good time looking around but was very disappointed by what I saw. The highlight of the bag selection was a coach bag from 1995 that looked like it had been run over by a bus. The bags were FILTHY...ripped, stained, teared..downright disgusting. I saw very basic and worn long sleeved t's and sweaters. The shoes were the only department that someone might be able to get lucky. After browsing, I asked to take my jacket back. It just felt like someone was getting away with murder. I know they weren't intentionally trying to rip me off but truly, these people are not educated with fashion. They aren't educated with quality. If you have old, ripped, and stained clothing from forever 21 and are looking to sell your clothes....this is the place. People were in there who looked like they hadn't showered in weeks and were selling their clothes and they seemed to make out alright. One woman was literally homeless- she was selling one scarf that looked like it had spent some nights out on the street with her. Maybe it was out of pity but they gave her $11 for it. $11 for a homeless persons scarf, and $14 for a leather jacket in perfect condition that was $400??!!! Long story short, I listed my jacket on e-bay and made $200. Don't bring anything in here of value. I had some used designed purses I was thinking of taking in here, not after this experience. I lugged a boatload of items to the Buffalo Exchange in my neighborhood today, of all heatpocalypse days, to try and sell a range of items from purses, belts, coats (yeah--coats) and miscellaneous girls clothes. I had called ahead and spoke with a charming little guy by the name of jonathan who was very helpful and friendly and said they'd buy everything all year round. When I arrived at the store, I waited in line for a solid 30 mins (fine, such is life), only to be greeted by less-than-friendly "buyers" who were to be the judges of my loot. Not only did they turn away 98% of my things, but they tried to undercut me on what they did feel met their high standards for purchase. I refused and decided to haul all of it to the Bowery Mission downtown. I'd much rather donate for free than feed a power tripping, haughty sales team with questionable judgement. If you're going to be a store that relies heavily on customer relationships, at least feign a glimmer of friendliness and come off your high horse. So went my first (and happily last) trip to Buffalo Exchange. read more

I went here 7-28-17 to sell some clothes. In the past I went to a Buffalo Exchange ( not this one) to do the same thing and they accepted nothing. I had a small bag of clothes with store brands such as ZARA, H and M, Old Navy and Urban Outfitters as well as 3 pairs of shoes. They shoes were Dolce Vita some booties, sandals from Urban Outfitters and sandals from Franco Sarto. They only accepted 3 items no shoes all for the measly price of 11.10. I paid more than 100 bucks for the 3 items. I at least thought I would get back between 20-40 dollars for those items. What the hell. I did read the reviews so I should not have been surprised but geez. I got my 11.10 from the cheerful cashier... a little too cheerful if you ask me. I ended up taking my other belongings to a consignment store. read more

I am never going back to Buffalo Exchange again; I've been in a few times, to browse or help friends sell. I never thought it was excellent or horrible until this afternoon. Today I came in and waited for 45 minutes in line to sell. There was a man with four full suitcases there, with a line of about eight of us behind him, the employees at the store did nothing to encourage us that the wait would be short or to thank us for coming in. One of the male employees started up a conversation with the seller in front of him while the rest of us waited for their social hour to end. Before it was my turn, two girls came in, the manager of the store promptly ran over to apologize that they may have to wait a short 15 minutes while the line moved, a treatment the rest of us did not get. When it was finally my turn, the buyer I got (same employee mentioned above and reviewed by JJ C, below), merely skimmed my clothes and put them back in my bag. I was selling a vintage Diesel jacket in perfect condition, when I asked him why he wouldn't take, at least, the jacket, he said it was "too vintagey and had studs on it"..neither of which I thought were bad things, especially in the East Village. The people before me were selling white t-shirts, and furry animal hats...after almost an hour of being in that store, it was clear that some people were "preferred sellers" while others were not. Searching for the perfect designer threads but don't have the cash flow to support it? No problem. Buffalo Exchange in the East Village has got your back. Normally I am anti-thrift store; the very idea of owning something that has touched another person's body grosses me out to extremes, but a girlfriend whose opinion I highly value recommended Buffalo Exchange to me, and I have to admit I stand corrected. With everything from 80's style prom dresses, billowy tee shirts that I have affectionately renamed "fat people clothes", sparkle sneakers, a whole slew of gold jewelry, blouses, jeans, and shorts, Buffalo Exchange offers a wide variety of used goods that actually look kind of new. Excited at the prospect of owning a Theory dress for $20, I grabbed a ton of items off the racks and hit the dressing room. This turned out to be an epic fail. There's a reason why people sell their old clothes. Either they don't fit properly, or they're not really that cute once you get home, or you can never find an appropriate occasion to wear said garment. After spending about an hour in the dressing room (I am a terrible solo shopper, I can never decide if things actually look good on me or if an article of clothing is worth the money), I had narrowed down my pile to two dresses. The first was a geometrically patterned BCBG dress that could have been cute, I just couldn't tell after trying on 87 dresses. The second was a black strapless maxi dress that had this weird knot/bow thing in the center. I was starting to lose my patience, it was 100 degrees in there, and the strapless dress was $13 bucks. I needed to get the hell out of there. I bought the dress and rolled. I'd definitely go back to Buffalo Exchange, just with a friend, and with the air conditioner on. read more

I don't usually write Yelp reviews but after reading recent reviews of one of my favorite places to shop I had to put in my two cents. About selling at Buffalo, they buy stuff that people want to wear RIGHT NOW. If you don't want what you're trying to sell, why would someone else? There's a place for stuff like that - GOOD WILL, so go there. I find something I want there everytime I go. Most recently a pair of brand new Dolce Vita wedges for like $40. The selection is good because the staff buys for what's wearing right now. Shoes I've gotten as a gift, a crazy dress I bought for a very specific occasion, clothes I bought at sample sales but didn't try on and can't return - I've been able to come to Buffalo and trade it in for something I want. You don't have to take my word for it though because the staff is nice enough to thoroughly explain what and why they're buying right now as they go through each of your items. So for everyone yelping that the people at Buffalo don't know what they're doing at the buy counter, the hour I have to wait in line behind you to sell is well worth the entertainment of watching you try to sell your trash bags of... trash. Stop taking it personally and GET A CLUE! Take their FREE advice and learn how to sell better instead of bitching about it here. Seriously, its that easy. And as far as the staff goes - friendly, always up for a chat, helpful, PATIENT, amazing... They even remember my dog's name! I'll come back, again and again and again. read more
