This is my current favorite resale/consignment shop on Haight. They always have a great selection, and their prices are reasonable. We took our teenage niece here a few weeks ago and she found all kinds of good deals. I found a great black leather jacket that was only $32.50 - I had to get it for her. I was happy to find all the clothes arranged by style (sweaters, tops, blouses, etc.) and by size! Pretty cramped, but that means more clothes to sift through:) They definitely seem to sell according to season, cause when I went in they had racks and racks of sweaters, very few tank tops and skirts/dresses. Sad to find some pretty sweaters with small holes, but I guess that comes with the territory. And it seemed clean! Big bonus for avsecond-hand store. My main reason for writing this is cause I bought a blouse that had a belt, and the next day I noticed my belt was missing! Nightmare! I called the store, and a wonderful gal named Sarah helped me, and found my belt almost immediately, and said she would mail it to me...soooooooo nice, considering I live nearly 1 1/2 hours away. It arrived in the mail the very next day, with a $5 voucher! I was so impressed by her customer service, I had to write a review. I used to come here to sell my clothes, most of the time 1/3 of my clothes will be taken. And this time the girl who taking clothes didn't take any of mine ( 2 big bags). They normally will take your phone number before the start with the clothes .(she took the phone number from the customer in front of me, and the one after me) But she didn't ask for my phone number then started rejecting my clothes, shoes, and some handbags. read more

In the many times I have been here, I've found a few great things. A pair of REAL leather flats (barely used, if at all), some cute sunglasses, a cosmetics case and this adorable orange shirt. This place can be hard to shop but well worth it when ya find something you didn't know but maybe secretly did know you were looking for but just didn't know it yet. I used to go here ones a week and just check out what they had in t-shirts and jeans, some times nothing sometimes something and things of this nature tend to go.... but sometimes i find something that's bad ass and since i live in the haight it's no biggie to go over there... so easy peasy.... i don't do this anymore cuz i hate shopping and now have enough t-shirts i like but when i loose my clothes you know where i'm going! -oh i once sold my clothes got 6 bucks gave the rest to good will, went next door bought a beer and 2 games of pool.... suckers! :) read more

While packing up for my big move to Sacramento, I finally realized how much crap I had! I had clothes that didn't fit and clothes I never wore that were hogging up all my closet space. So I did a major purge and decided to give it all to charity. BUT WAIT! I paid good money for this stuff so why not try to get a buck or two back? I looked on Yelp and decided to give Buffalo Exchange a try. After circling the block a couple times for parking, I walk into the store and instantly notice how cute all the sales people are dressed. I put my name on the list (5 people were ahead of me and this one guy had a HUGE garbage bag full of clothes). The wait was about 30 minutes but I easily killed the time by browsing. I get to the buyer and he was super polite and asked me if I have ever done this before. I said no but he was really nice in explaining to me how it works. I came in with 3 bags of jeans, sweaters and t-shirts and walked away with 16 bucks cash (or 30something in store credit). It wasn't much but they gladly took all the stuff they didn't want and offered to donate it for me. I didn't mind since I was going to donate it anyway. I really wanted to shop around more but the place was super busy. I walked away from this really cute Beatle's shirt that was only 9 bucks! I totally regret it. Minus one star because the girl's jean selection wasn't too hot that day. Minus one because they didn't take any of the great pea coats I brought in. Awesome staff though! I can usually find something here: I look for jackets, vests, jeans, and sometimes tees. The prices range from $10-$30 for single items that are usually in great condition. The Valencia location is less crowded and has some different stuff (better, maybe?), but the Haight location is closer to me. I sold some stuff here once and it's not too bad, got $75 for stuff I'll never wear anymore (you can choose store credit- 2/3 of the price they sell, or cash- 1/3 the price they sell (I think that's how it is)). The buyers can be very choosy when you sell your stuff, but you can ask them what they're buying and they'll tell you what they're generally looking for (they told me): so instead of bringing a heaping pile of clothes that will be rejected, bring the stuff that fits their general descriptions and you'll shouldn't have too much of a problem (or one would think). read more

This place is the best. Ever. Well, close enough; as a starving college student I've made it my first choice for clothing shopping. Its clothes are varied and often artsier than the Goodwill haul, and I've found amazing bargains here. (A friend of mine bought me a $400 dress, new with the tags on, for about 20 bucks.) The salespeople are also really friendly; in the past, the cashier let me have an 11-dollar purchase for 10 bucks because I couldn't scrounge up enough change to make up the difference. Thrift shopping is thrift shopping! You can't expect a lot, but you can find some good buys here, and the staff's awesome. Sellers beware: just because you bring in 10 bags of clothes or unworn items, does NOT mean they'll buy it so don't be bitter. FYI, depends on the season and fashion. read more

Walking into here is a time warp of the '60's, kooky and funky threads, a treasure palace, racks full of unexpected finds, groovy comes to mind. Platform shoes and psychedelic colors, super unique stuff, every corner of the shop full with random odds and ends. Their prices are a teensy bit on the higher end, especially for the stuff, which is sometimes not the best quality, because being vintage there's only so much they can hold up over the the years. A designer who I've worked with unfortunately had her designs stolen from her. After combing through the city she FOUND the designs at this stole. Even after proof they were stolen Haight st. Buffalo exchange refuses to give her back the items. They are harboring stolen designs robbed from Wysterium Wear, which she reported to their management on Sunday! Although she has provided flyers of items & theft report # to them, B.E. staff claims all they can do is sell her stolen stock back to her at full price. All I ask is to let them know that their illegal indifference to law & basic human nature is abominable & will not be supported. I will no longer be doing business with them read more

Always a hit or miss at this location when it comes to buying and selling. Unless you're psychic, you'll never know what the selection will look like, or what buyer will be working the day you come in but since I've never had a terrible experience here, I think it's worth the risk. Their merchandise is geared mostly to the hippie & grunge folk of the Haight/Ashbury community so all your monogram designer duds are not welcome here; though I'm assuming if you're coming here to sell, you don't own ed hardy or juicy couture jumpsuits to begin with. This locations does go for contemporary designers, urban outfitters-type and some no name brands that fit the hipster aesthetic. Rarely will they accept the typical forever21 or h&m, unless its "trendy" and in season. They can be picky when it comes to buying, but every time I look through the racks I think to myself, "who the eff would buy that?" Sorry, but it makes no sense to me why most clothes on the racks (which look like '90s wear) are more "desirable" than my clothes from 2009/10 in which case whoever was working the buyer desk had no idea what he/she was thinking. Despite that, I do like the way they handle donations and I never feel super ripped off. They tell you up front how much your item is worth, unlike Crossroads where everything is sold in silence. Which brings me to my next point: the staff, who are very friendly and do not judge you for once owning old navy corduroys and windbreakers. It can definitely be uncomfortable, though, when a buyer in training is being told that your pieces are "undesirable" and "would never sell" in store - kind of awkward explaining the rules of buying in front of sellers/customers but albeit, great experiences at Buffalo and I always come back. read more

Everybody told me that Buffalo Exchange gives you more for your clothes than crossroads. They took some of my best jeans and quoted them at $10-$14. -_- Since I took cash, that's only 35%. After buffalo, I went and stopped by at crossroads down the block. They took whatever Buffalo didn't want and gave me $20 each. Next time I'll know where to go first. I sold much less item at Crossroads and got double the amount there. I feel like such an idiot. BLAH! read more

The Buffalo Exchange on Haight Street is not the best one to go to. They are very under the table discriminating. I have been an avid clothing seller and I love to sell my old but still good looking clothing at these types of places. Although the money is low (of course, you are selling used clothing), but it seems as though this one seems to start judging way before you even put your clothes on the table. I have gone to them a number of times throughout the past decade because there is just not that many places to selling your clothing other than setting up a table at the local flea market on Saturdays; which I just don't have the time or patience to do. But, when comparing them to the Crossroads on Haight Street it is the worst. I have brought in clothes into Buffalo that they pass on without even fully looking at them. Then I go down the street to Crossroads and they take about 90% of what I have. If you even compare the clothes that Buffalo displays to Crossroads there is no comparison. I cannot believe some of the items I see at Buffalo and I do not know how they got past the inspection. So, basically what I am saying, not afraid to bring up is that if you want to sell your clothes the only reason you should go down to Haight is to sell at Crossroads. There is another Buffalo Exchange I started going to that is more open item-wise, and its on Valencia @ 24th. So, if you are darker than the color "Caucasian" and you have too much Urban style or culture I highly suggest NOT going to the one on Haight Street. FInd another shop to sell to or look for an open table at the Saturday Flea Market. But, that's just me! read more

Been to this place in east bay was in area and remembered I had a bag in my car of clothes I was going to donate. Stop by this place wait no bad, however the buyer pretty much scan the seller and then pretty much glanced at the items and said nothing today. Lol not ever going to this place I sell all the time my items are always acceptable and brought. read more

This is actually one of my least favorite buffalo exchanges. I think the clothes are over priced considering a lot of it is not that great of quality and is mostly generic. None of it is even close to vintage and you could get most of their clothes at any other thrift store for less. Everytime I come to sell my clothes they are somewhat rude and condescending and how much money you get all depends on the personal style and mood of whoever is going through your things. I am always dissapointed when I come here and I feel like this particular Buffalo is always picked over. read more

Not a good place to sell, nor a good place to buy. They are super picky and I have a lot of brands like Zara, Jcrew and designer brands, and they don't want anything. Instead they like some weird stuff and the price they offered is also super low. Waited in the line for 30 mins and got only $4... Also when she finished the examine, nobody told me to go to cashier to get the money, so I stand there for another 2 min without anybody asking. I used to come here to shop as well, although they r very picky at purchasing, unfortunately, the clothes don't look cool or good. And it's kinda pricy compared to other stores, especially they purchased at such a low price. Won't come again. read more

Not only was this the worst Buffalo Exchange I've ever visited, but I think it might have also been the worst resale shop on Haight. It's not that the prices were bad; the selection was just really, really bad. Everything seemed outdated and/or defective. The Buffalo Exchange in Austin KILLS this one. Not in love with this store. Yesterday I wanted a new sweater, since this weather is relentless. I stopped in, but the only thing I found was way over priced. Would somebody please remind these people that they are selling USED clothing , as in, should be cheaper than if it were new. Anyway once I was fed up, it took forever to get my bag back because of the huge line. I doubt I'll be back. But who knows, I do tend to get sucked in. read more

I like how you can sell your old clothes here, except that they've become a hell of a lot more picky... and they've totally upped the prices. Come on! The clothes are 'used'. The Haight is full of vintage/thrift stores and this Buffalo is as good as it gets. I don't usually like Buff Ex because it tends to be lots of forever 21 and urban outfitter stuff, but this one was decent with good prices. However, with so many vintage stores around, this wouldn't be the first place I would look. read more

Pretty decent place if you're looking to find some thrifty clothing buys. I found a lot of stuff that I liked and was affordable for my post-college-graduate lifestyle. Everything was well organized and had a lot on the racks to choose from. Would recommend it as a place to go if you're looking to be stylish on a budget. read more

I know San Francisco is an expensive town, but the prices here for second hand items were outrageous! I didn't see anything less than $20, and the brands weren't that fantastic, either. Only reason for 2 stars is that the store was nicely organized, otherwise, I'd say just check out the Goodwill across the street for items just a nice and cheaper. read more

This place a total joke. Save your time and donate your clothing for a tax write off. They're going to scam you, then turn around and sell it for 5 times what they bought it for. The guy before me had a genuine Prada hand bag for sale. They told him they would sell it for $45 (yeah right) and therefore could only give him $15 for it. Anyone smell a rip off? They won't buy anything unless it's "vintage" or only been out for a few months. I really dislike this store. They hire snotty snotty, too cool for school hipsters who basically ignore you while you are trying to sell them your clothes and then throw your clothes at you as if you could never be hip enough to even look at them. Then, they go wash their hands because they accidentally touched your disgusting unhipsterish clothes and cry and cross themselves praying that your touch won't make them tragically unhip. I went in with a mission to find new jeans for work, which is always particularly hard on my jeans, and scored for $18 with some Banana Republic blues. (4.5 stars) I was accompanying my friend for a day out in the general haight neighborhood. I had to hang around for about an hour while she had her voice lessons at the haight ashbury music center. The buffalo exchange was just across the street so I decided to check it out since I was in need of some new clothing. I was so excited to see amazing deals on name brand items. I ended up buying 3 bags worth of clothing from brands like Brandy Melville, abercrombie, J.crew, wildfox, Vince, Zara, American Apparel, American eagle outfitters, top shop, and hollister. I also bought a $15 (it was half off) J Jill nylon jacket with original tags displaying an original price upwards of $60. Score! Staff were friendly, and almost everything was neatly organized. That 0.5 star is missing because of the space. It's not a huge deal, but I found myself elbow to elbow with people inbetween racks. I am absolutely sure I'll be coming back. This place is 10x better than any goodwill I've ever been to. read more

Since I found this place I will never go back to Crossroads! If you're on a buget and want to find some cute clothes this is the place. Second hand stores can either be a hit or miss but I always find something great from this place! The haight is my favorite part of town but most of the stores are overpriced and never have anything I really like.. considering I never wear what's "in." If you want vintage, funky or even trendy you can find it all. If you are planning to sell they actually take your stuff unlike crossroads who wouldn't take a really nice pair of boots for no apprent reason. I also think it's great if they don't take your clothes they give you the option to donate it and help someone else! Which is what we should be doing instead of getting money back! read more

It's crowded, well picked-over and mostly understaffed. If you look though, there are some real finds. I got a gorgeous cashmere cardigan once, which is one reason I'll keep coming back. I do wish it were more organized and spread out though. Oh, and cleaner. read more
