After bringing in a few bags of clothing to sell and being scrutinized like picking through trash--I now vow to just stick with donating clothes to gracious foundations. It's not like you get much back for your items here anyway...35% of what they plan to sell your item for. Plus I waited for what seemed at least an hour at the store to get called up to the counter. While waiting, I watched as the woman before me, who had a good number of designer items, get most of her stuff turned away too. Read the chalkboard of items the store desired which included: "concert tees" and clothing with "Beetlejuice Stripes." Can't speak for others--but the whole setup just isn't for me. read more

On the same day, I sold some stuff at Buffalo Exchange and some stuff at Crossroads (they are on the same block). Buffalo Exchange is so much better than Crossroads. Quinn at Buffalo Exchange helped me while I sold some of my stuff. She was helpful, super fast and sweet. The girls at Crossroads could learn something from Quinn. read more

Came back the other day and sold more clothes with the manager Fabio I believe. I came with 4 bags and they took a big half of it ! The service was wonderful as always and he kept asking if I had any questions and stuff. I made a total of $136 and I received a check! This place is just OK. I would say you might be able to find a few bargains for a little bit more than what you'd pay at a thrift store, but this place almost looks like a thrift store. They do price vintage relatively cheap, but it isn't normally super good stuff. I think just about every Buffalo that have ever been to is a bit of crap shoot. Every now and then you will really score something awesome for a great price, but the store just isn't organized well. Most of the racks are just so cluttered with stuff it can be challenging to want to go through everything. Also, if you are planning on selling, try going to the location in the Mission. I had to wait almost 40 minutes to bring my stuff to the the sell counter, and they really underpriced a lit of awesome stuff I had. But, I guess it didn't matter, because I would have donated it anyway. But just for future reference, go to another resale shop first before coming here to sell. They often don't fairly price their items which is good for consumers, but not for sellers. read more

Don't even bother trying to sell clothes here. After waiting half an hour to sell, I was seen to by the extremely lackadaisical attendant who, after giving my clothes that I lugged halfway across the city only a cursory glance, only bought one purse. She literally barely even glanced at most of the stuff I brought and passed over items which were barely worn. When I protested that she had ignored some nice items she said they weren't stylish. This from a woman who has the fashion sense of a 5 year old and in a city where people wear the grungiest crap ever. The money I received was hardly even worth the bus fare, and I ended up dropping off everything at a friendlier and worthier establishment: goodwill. read more

This is a nice place to go to when you're looking for some vintage clothing or something to wear for a play musical at school without having to spend a lot of money though the few times I've gone here I didn't really see anything I could see myself wearing more than once, as I also have this thing about wearing used clothing and not knowing where it came from. read more

This is the only place that I'll take my clothes for consignment. The staff is super cool and friendly, and they take the time out to really dig through your items. Perfect place to take the clothes that you're sick of, in exchange for a money...now I can go shopping for some new duds! read more

Out of all the trift stores on Haight this one is the most varied and inconsistent. The prices are wildly erratic ($17 dollars for a brand new cashmere sweater or a crappy button-down). Not as vintage-y as wasteland or generic as crossroads---it's a good place for preppy stuff or middle-of-the-road hipster stuff like Paul Frank, Ben Sherman, or Penguin. I've sold here dozens of times and have yet to figure out what they're looking for. Sometimes they take the whole lot of some pretty mediocre clothes; sometimes they pass on a brand new pair of Levi's 517s when the whole jeans rack is full of loose fit silver tabs. And get this: They once passed on a really nice western shirt, so I dropped it off at Goodwill down the street. A week or so later that exact same shirt (my shirt) was in the racks at Buffalo Exchange! How the hell does that happen? And another thing: I tried on a pair of jeans recently and found a dollar in the pocket. I totally kept it. read more

I got a nice jean jacket from this place and the woman there was quite friendly and helpful, I got a good deal on the jacket too. Not a big selection but I have found some nice clothes from time to time including a tie dye jacket and a couple retro shirts. Men's and women's clothes, a lot of retro/vintage stuff, prices vary, don't be afraid to haggle. Most things are moderately priced. They buy old clothes here. Clear out the closet and get some new threads. read more

I did very much enjoy shopping at this Buffalo Exchange. There was lots of selection, and it was all sorted and labeled pretty well. I thought the prices were fair but maybe a bit on the high side. I would say that despite the good job organizing, the store definitely felt cramped. There is just not enough space, or they need to find a different way to display it that leaves more room for aisles. With the number of people who shop at the store, it's just not very comfortable to get from one rack to another. That said, I did find a few items I just loved, which is always great shopping. I also was somewhat offput by the cashier asking every person whether they were OK with the store being a bag-free store. It seems like an odd question. If you have chosen to be bag-free, it doesn't matter if people are OK with it. They have to be. It would be better to just tell them that you ARE a bagless store, so their options are no bag or to buy a bag. Seems silly to ask if they are OK with something they can't have any control over. I really like Buffalo Exchange, so when I found that I didn't bring proper layering clothes on our short trip to San Fran, this seemed like the perfect solution. I found a new sweatshirt at a great price and solved my body temperature issues! The staff here was super nice and made sure I was finding everything alright, while still leaving me alone to do my own thing. That is so nice--to be helped and not bothered is the best! read more

I wouldn't make the trip to SF just for this store. They have tons of clothes from Jc Penny's, Old Navy and Target for around the same price. If you want to find real brands at bargain prices then try Jeremy's or even Crossroads. Every once in a blue moon I'll find a cute top that is about $2 less then it would be at Forever21. read more

It's the thrift/vintage shop with a consistent, cultivated sense of style and relatively low prices. Quality tees and button downs for $10 or $15 that would normally sell for three times that at most primaary retailers and designers. Buffalo Exchange is for the lazy thrift store shopper who doesn't mind paying a little bit extra to only have to weed through a minimal amount of crap to find some good stuff. What can i say i love second hand stores. I particularly love this one because i can be there for hours. One of the downsides is that my arm gets kinda sore from rummaging through the clothes. Usually selling clothes is a chore but I've found the buyers at Buffalo to be pleasant, friendly, and generous during my visits. This is quite exceptional, given the Haight Street location, where you're typically trying to get in and out of stores without wanting to strangle someone. read more

I am a buyer not a seller here. I really enjoy checking everything out - especially shopping for my husband. Sometimes you can find awesome things. Parking here wasn't too hard but it was Wednesday at like 2pm. There are lots of cool little shops in the area to have fun in. Compared to their other locations, this store isn't my favorite. First, it's very crammed and difficult to maneuver around the store. It looks like a bigger location from the outside, but was underwhelming. Second, the staff were a little stuck up. Cashier didn't fold my clothes or assist in bagging them, he just left them crumpled on the counter and waited for me to leave. Will try the other Mission location next time read more

The stuff in their store is just okay. I went there to sell my clothes once, and they only bought the ugliest, cheapest stuff I owned. Apparently my style is "a little conservative" for them; I prefer the term "classy". They do pay more for used clothes than other stores, though. read more

even though its a thrift shop . i must say it just reminds me of a bunch of dirty clothes hanging on hangers and nasty shoes on the shoe rack. u can smell the dirty clothes when u walk in. but needless to say i still look around in their huge variety of junk clothes. the good things about thrift shops are their prices are reasonable buffalo exchange contradicts that fact to me 8.00 a shirt isnt exactly thrift shopp price to me if im being stingy then u can accomapny me to a nearby goodwill and get shirts for 3.00 a pop and thats real thrift shop to me needless to say their variety of clothes arent exactly trendy and the way they display it makes the hangers squeek when i move them read more

I like stopping by here after I've made a trip over to Amoeba. I normally have better luck at the Mission store, but I have found a few things here. I can be pretty lazy when it comes to shopping, so I like the fact that Buffalo Exchange sorts through all of the donated clothes and just sells the good stuff...it saves me a lot of time. read more

I really like Buffalo Exchange. Normally. However, this particular one just doesn't cut it for me. The store is waaay too small and cramped for the number of customers and clothing racks that fill it up. I have been here at least a dozen times (always hopeful), but I don't think I've ever made a single purchase. This place is okay. I came here a lot back in the day to sell my bags or uggs. If you are looking to sell, I really only ever see them take name brands. I find that rather comical since, well, just take a look around. There are better stores on Haight, but I'm sure if you were to take a good look through Buffalo Exchange you could find a hidden gem somewhere. read more
