I came here yesterday with two full bags of clothes. I was a little intimidated based on the yelp reviews, but went for it anyway because I need the extra money. I got there and there is a sign in list on the wall. I waited about 30 minutes until it was my turn. It wasn't that long of a wait because I walked over to crossroads, which is a few doors down and they didn't have a wait. They by the way weren't friendly. Anyway, it was finally my turn and Sarah (I think thats her name) went over their buying policy since it was my first time. She looked thru each item and folded the unwanted items neatly. She was friendly and told me what what type of clothes they were looking for (winter clothing- long sweaters, skinny jeans). I didn't get that snobby attitude I got at Crossroads. They ended up buying two items from me (yah!). I didn't leave the place feeling like my fashion was outdated. They buy things based on what customers look for. Makes sense. One star removed for their stuff being a little pricey. read more

I went here recently for the first time and found a shirt that looked new for $18, stores nearby were selling a similar item for about $40. I decided to go through my clothes and pull out what didn't have a dream fit or maybe wasn't the best color for me and went back. The girl that was working with me was super nice (all of the employees were very friendly). I was very surprised that out of the couple bags I brought she only selected three things. I had several dresses that were purchased in the past year to two years and were in pristine condition (a few were from Anthropologie, one was from UO, and one Calvin Klein). They did not want any of them. Maybe my style isn't hipster enough? I got a store credit and looked around - I found a belt I thought was kinda cute and tried on some stuff but didn't really care for any of it. Looking through their clothes I was surprised to find clothing that looked very worn, some of it even had holes or stains. A lot of it was H&M and Forever 21 - and not super discounted - why not just go to the original source? I am wondering if they have become more selective because they are having trouble selling their current inventory. read more

It's an ok store, but not the best on haight. The selection is better if you look in the men's section and the only boots I ever bought there were too high and I ended up cutting off the heels. The employees are really attractive but they all play grab-ass with each other which can be pretty confusing at times. I bought few good sweaters here, and my friend bought a really happening flask. read more

I love this place, they always take my clothes which then allows me to go and buy pipes and such down the block in the Haight.. love it. They also have super great prices on Halloween costumes, and they have fun and funky clothes that you can traid in for. If you go during the day at lunch time or before schools would be out you don't have to wait at all to get your clothes sold. One time I waited a really long time though, but it's okay I got money. read more

as a seller, this place is a nightmare. there's such a high volume of sellers that they are UBER-choosy on what they take. i got a whopping $8 and change for the few things they DID take. i'd say don't bother unless you like your sellers picking over your clothes and asking the other sellers what they think, when all the other sellers will say, repeatedly, is "i'd hold off on that" or "we have a lot of those already". go to the one on valencia. I can't pass a Buffalo Exchange without entering to see what magical threads exist in each store. And this was no different. As I traveled back from GG Park, I stuck my head in and perused. Mostly organized and generally clean, the store met my baseline for staying. I found the medium sized shirts on the first rack and began the process. Not much to my liking, but I like diamonds in the rough, i.e. Henleys and crew neck non-print tees. I moved to the second rack and spent some time trying to figure out what was what, as the signage was a bit off. I tried on a few shirts and then took them up to the cashier. Nice enough but not particularly inviting, the cashier indicated that one of the shirts that was listed at $13.50 was actually $16. I moved forward with the purchase anyway, only to find that the shirt was actually $16.50. No, not a big difference - thus the reason I didn't make a fuss - but 'twas a somewhat strange series of events. Of course, I'll still go into any B.E. for the magical threads, but this store might concentrate on process and people for a better customer experience. read more

I came here to sell some higher end clothing and this place was seedy and grimey. The girl who sorted through my items was friendly but didn't even look at 90% of my things. She passed on a few Marc Jacobs items; yet as I was rummaging (this is what you have to do to keep up with the mob), I noticed brands like exhilaration and f21. This place is over priced for the low end clothes they carry. You're better off to shop at the goodwill for less than half the cost! A total waste of time I will never return. read more

The store has some good clothing finds and pretty good prices. I don't always find what I want but when I do find things I'm very happy. Pretty good shoe selection for men . The only thing the store lacks is good customer service. The staff at the two San Francisco-based Buffalo Exchanges are outstanding (they're a chain, and whoever does the hiring knows exactly what they are doing). Whether you're buying or selling, they always project a helpful, authentic energy. They just seem to have everything figured out - in a good way. For example, unlike almost every other clothing / vintage store on Haight Street, your first interaction when you walk in the door is not "Hi - can you check in your bag?" They've done the math and concluded that the single upside of bag check-in (less theft) doesn't outweigh the numerous downsides for both staff and customers. For shoppers, bag check-ins are like speed bumps that you have to hit twice - when you enter and exit the store. I often like to just swing through stores (I have 6 minutes before the 71 arrives - let's see if Buff Ex has any good size 10 boots). Waiting for someone to finish ringing up 5 items before you begin to shop is one thing. But if you're done browsing, and you need to leave (is that the 71?), waiting to collect your own possessions in order to exit the store can be frustrating. Pls return the hostage! A big deal? No. One of those minor details that makes shopping more fun, convenient, and organic to moving through a day in the city? Yes! It smooths the road and sets a friendlier tone for everyone. I have to feel that far outweighs whatever 'loss' they sustain from the occasional nicked t-shirt. The offerings are dynamic and fill a certain niche that hits a sweet spot for me and obviously a lot of other people, men and women alike, who not only don't mind used clothing but generally prefer it (for too many reasons to go into). Prices are spot on - fair enough for sellers and very good for buyers. I've been at both ends - and I always feel satisfied. read more

I was so impressed by the customer service at this location! After I had an issue with an item I purchased (the security tag was left on and I live out of the area), the staff went above and beyond to help me! They not only fixed the problem, but reimbursed me for my shipping expenses, etc. I highly recommend this store, not only for the great selection, but also for great and hardworking employees. read more
