This review is for selling clothes only. Writing this review as I still wait for them to look at my clothes. Got here on a Friday a few minutes before 11 AM (when they open) and was 4th in line. Took about 20-25 minutes for them to start going through pieces with the first person in line. They have no one assisting when they see that the line goes behind 5 people. Buyer keeps having to go back and forth between the register to help and buying clothes. The system is really inefficient and you just have to wait your turn. It's been 2 hours and I've barely started to receive assistance with buying my clothes.... read more

HAH! they offered me $12 for Balenciaga 2017 Beanie Campaign shirt which a luxury designer and resells for 250-400 so 30% is around at-least $75-150... they don't know designers or trained to properly buy to customers service. walked in didn't get greeted and when they were appraising my items they laughed and snickered in front of me and the customers... not cool and not professional at all, didn't feel welcomed neither the person behind me as they left. PLEASE TRAIN YOUR BUYERS TO PROPERLY KNOW BRAND NAMES/HOW AUTHENTICATE BRANDS/RESELL cause you guys are a reselling store, essentially. also, 30% isn't enough. lol. I recommended curated section (40-50%) vs gross item (30%) to be far for selling customers. that's my take. read more

I recently lost my drivers license and realized it on the way to my apt. I had my work ID with a picture as well was the DMV temporary drivers license. I asked the guy at the front if that would be acceptable & he said yes. I PAY for parking and carry a heavy ass bag of clothes into the store. I'm literally sweating as this bag is bigger than me. The buyer then tells me she can't take the picture id with the DMV paper even if i have a wallet full of cards in my name. At the end of the day had the guy at the front not given me wrong information i wouldn't of had to pay and carry that bag. It would have jus been my mistake. But it's so fucking annoying that i did my due diligence by asking and the employee gave me wrong information that led to more loses. read more

My experience here today made me nauseous to say the least. I used to frequent the far superior Berkeley location but it unfortunately closed over the pandemic. This was my first time in the San Francisco location. Dear god help us is all I have to say. Clothing was dirty, stained, and ridiculously overpriced. The lowest price items I could find were $14, including old target and tobi clothes you could probably get brand new for less. I saw a literal Dennis uniform school skirt for $18. I almost called the police right there. Absolute robbery. I couldn't believe my eyes. Sad that this is what thrifting has turned into. read more

I will never forget when the manger helped style me for Outside Lands 2021. This is a great place to find some trendy clothes at a reasonable price. The Buffalo Exchange on Haight has been there what seems like forever. There are a handful of circular racks to go through when browsing, as well as a wall with footwear. I'm personally not one to buy a regular old t-shirt at a thrift shop, but I always find other interesting pieces of clothing here. My personal favorite is probably the care bear bell bottoms I found here before Halloween one year. Around Halloween, they also set up a bunch of prepackaged costumes for sale as well. I always look fresh walking to my college classes because of this store. read more

MOST DISRESPECTFUL WORKER IN SF. I believe buffalo exchange should be represented positively as it is a fantastic addition to San Francisco and most importantly Haight Street! Unfortunately, I lost hope in a smooth experience with Buffalo Exchange. Hate to be posting a negative review here, although I've never felt more belittled by any type of store worker(especially @ BE thrift) and I felt my honesty was imperative to share. I sold $57 worth of clothes there for my first time & was super excited to come back and use my store credit(card). I came back about two weeks later I tried to purchase a $29 item and the card declined claiming null. Hm...both embarrassing & strange considering I was in Maui and hadn't even been in town to shop.-no major problem waiting an extra 20 mins for the manager to help us kindly and send it in to accounting. A few days later we received a prompt response that the shoes would be put on hold and the $57 was tracked! Although it wasn't much, I was pumped to go back and use it ofc. She offered nothing extra but to extend our hold on the shoes until Oct 3 so the store credit could apply. Tonight, Oct 3 I got all the way to BE right before closing time(7:56) just with hopes of them letting me ask to continue my hold one more day since they closed the door on my partners feet AT LEAST 3 TIMES as we were asking simple concise questions and only TRYING TO GIVE HER A NAME FOR THE HOLD she told us she would continue for us. smh, the first time she closed the door she didn't even ask for our name also after saying okay. We knew it must be too late for purchase only 5 mins before closing time-so accepted that already. But her extreme immature eye rolling and sassy decorum killed my hopeful perspective on BE. I felt stupid walking away and looking at the time 7:57 as she could have at least given us 30 seconds to explain our small issue. We let her walk all over us! I wish the worker here would have reacted better towards this issue and also I wish I asked her name so there was no need for a photo. I walked in they were still behind from previous seller . Again I had brought in a bag of about 50 items all were in great condition almost brand new and a few with tags on them that go for over 20$ each! Dolls kill, fashion nova , pollo etc . They only grabbed like 4 items that were dolls kill and they go for over 40$ or more and I got 6$ that's embarrassing. Not worth my time at all . read more

I just experienced the RUDEST encounter while selling clothes with the actual "manager" ... I had a great employee at first who looked through all my clothes thoroughly and selected YES for a lot of the items.. she had to go on break but told the woman who took over that these are all yes items and the woman took all of them back and said no!! She publicly embarrassed her own employee by saying "she only has been working here for one month and doesn't know what she's doing and I'm the manager I've worked here for 6 years" mind you; she had NO style and no ipinion on fashion! She said my clothes were in bad condition but they all HAD TAGS and were cute fashion nova, brandy etc, branded things. I had a lot of brand new in style clothes that were never worn even had tags on them. The lady had to go on break, so she was replaced with the "manager" as soon as she took over she had the biggest attitude and demeanor was completely negative and off and the opposite of the girl who was helping me.. she actually took ALL my yes items and said "no" to them and I said "those were yes" and that's when she embarrassed her employee.. she had an attitude with me and I thought that was extremely unprofessional.. THIS is why you have to sell with someone who KNOWS STYLE. The way she looked at my clothes she literally didn't even look at them! She just moved them to the side.. brand new adidas jackets, etc. SMH! I was so mad when I saw her switch with the original girl. She just looked and sounded so rude. Way back when I lived in Russian Hill, I wanted to get rid of some of my fine duds so thought about selling them at Buffalo Exchange. I went in to that location (now closed and moved to Valencia), and their staff was cool and helpful about what they could and could not take (heartbreaking to find out no one wanted one of old corduroy blazers!). You can get cash or credit back, and you get more "dollars" for credit, so I opted for that option. That was in 2004. Just yesterday, I found that credit and went into their Haight location. As with any used clothing store, you have to be patient to find something that's all about your style, and even then sometimes the gods of vintage are against you. But yesterday, for me at least, I found just what I was looking for: one Onitsuka Tiger hoodie and one Nice Collective sweatshirt, total about $45, leaving me with $20 in store credit! The guy at the counter was really cool, think his name was Levi, and even though my credit in theory expired after one year, he checked with his boss and they let it slide. Nice and human customer service, go figure. So after this circle of clothing life and death and rebirth, the moral for you, dear yelper, is that the Buffalo Exchange is pretty darn special. I rarely buy anything in Wasteland. Their stuff always looks lackluster and many items look like they've taken a beating in too hot washer and dryers. Plus their buyers just seem off and the clothes reflect it. I often just stick to the guys' section when it comes to browsing, since they do have some decent hoodies and such. Do check out their shoes selection - since I have found a decent pair or two and you may just stumble upon gems such as brand new pair of men's Rockport dress shoes for seventeen dollars. After writing my near infamous review on the Philadelphia location, I now have the pleasure to express my feelings about the San Francisco store which only merits one star above the other. It's very, very clear that I detest Buffalo Exchange with every fiber of my being. Had you asked me my feelings on BE 3 or 4 years ago, it would have been a far different response. What used to be my favorite hunting grounds for vintage and designer goods on the cheap has now somehow let itself go and is a disgusting, lazy version of its former glory filled with bitchy, "cooler than thou" sales staff and cheap, overpriced used goods. After getting used to shopping at the Philly location for 6 years, I ended things with a very messy breakup after the quality of items (and more importantly customer service) went into the toilet. The one redeeming thing about that location was the still relatively dirt cheap prices. I moved to the West Coast and decided to give the Haight location a go. After getting used to dirt cheap BE pricing, walking into this store was a huge punch in the gut. It was nearly DOUBLE the price points of its East Coast contemporary. Okay, I get it. San Francisco is stupid expensive...but really? I couldn't find a single thing on the racks under $18. The resale value on Forever 21 and H&M clothes is not as high as the prices they are asking. I would know, I have my own business reselling women's clothing. The one big redeeming things about this store is that they did have a separate rack just for vintage clothing, which is what I had been begging the Philly location to do for years. They did have a cute selection of vintage items...however not in the best shape possible. But, I felt as if a few of those items were reasonably priced for what they were. Other than that, I feel like the store is a bit cramped. I was constantly getting bumped into by other customers and the staff putting out items. The sales staff watch you like a hawk, as if they are waiting for you to steal something. I cannot express how much I loathe people hovering over me imagining that I'm a lowly criminal when in reality I'm just a well-dressed vintage dealer looking to spend some money. I've been to this location on several trips into the city and I've only ever bought something once. I scored a Bettie Page by Tatyana dress for $30 that I ended up reselling for $100. The other times I've found stuff and went to purchase them, the line was SO LONG that I had to wait almost 15 minutes before giving up, putting the items back and walking out. If your store is busy...open up another register! I don't have time to stand around in line while you profess your love of The Pixies to some hipster buying a used flannel for $24. Fun fact: The Goodwill several blocks up the street is ten times better for scoring amazing used clothes and is half the price and everyone working there is extremely friendly. read more

I never really knew about the whole world of Crossroads, Buffalo Exchange and Wasteland until recently when I decided to clean out my closet after 4 long years. Yes my styles are out of date, my clothes are scrunched up and I had no idea what I was going to do with them short of donating to Good Will. The bf suggested that I try out these cool buy back places so I decided to check my luck at this Buffalo Exchange. The staff was EXTREMELY friendly and they had a numbering system for selling your clothes back. They go through your clothes and I feel like they have more respect than Crossroads. They're more open to buying more of your items, despite trends, and they're reasonable in the prices they give you. I ended up getting a whooping $40 for some used stuff that will never see the light of day again and I'm happy it got a second chance for someone else to snag it up for cheap. This is a place not to be missed for all of you closet cleaners. And even some of you consignment shop hunters, a pair of miu miu's (old) for only $80! You can't beat that! read more

Sorry Buffalo Exchange. I sort of have high expectations for my thrift stores. I'm used to cheap clothing (less than $20/item) and great selections. To have regular ol' dresses for up to $30 and shirts for $20 is simply way too expensive for me. I would definitely understand if varieties included top notch, designer brands or truly unique vintage finds. However, I saw skirts from Forever 21 for $11 (which is what I'd expect to pay for a new skirt there anyways). The selection is decent, but amongst that giant store with racks and racks of clothing, I could not find a single thing I would consider buying and I could not find a single thing even worth it to try on. It could just be that I wasn't in the mood to thrift at that moment, but when I compare to other thrift stores, this one doesn't quite meet my expectations! read more

I've been coming here for a few years now, it being my place to find something new and cool to add to my wardrobe. They offer some unique pieces of clothing, some just okay, and some that leave you thinking "who the heck would buy this stuff?" The stuff they sell here are chosen carefully and selectively by the buyers of the store, and if you do decide to sell any items here, they are usually looking for what's currently in as well as the item being in acceptable condition. The price range of the items are reasonable for the brand names that they sell which I like. If you decide to sell here, do come early because there can be a long wait. Also, don't be surprised if they only take one, two, or even nothing from your bag of 10+ items because like I said earlier, they are VERY picky and selective. I never really had the patience to take back what they didn't want that day and try to re-sell to them another time, but I heard it's possible to do so since there are always new buyers. They also give you the option of store credit or cash, but they offer a lower percentage if you decide to take the cash option. read more

Terrible employees, return policy is reprehensible. Every time I come into this place I always get the "eyes", like Im a suspect or something. Mind you, i go to all buffalo exchange stores in the bay but this in particular is just bad. The employees including management are just simply rude. I had to return, a dress today but they couldn't honor it because I was a day past the 5-day return policy. And mind you, this was my first time returning something. (They ought to tell costumers about this before they complete a transaction) Aggravating but fine, I asked if I could at least sell it back but they refused to because they were "overstocked". I was skeptical the prices would be over priced since Haight-Ashbury has become more of a tourist spot, but was please to find otherwise. This location had a great mix of brands from fast fashion brands to high end brand names- so many gems in this store I honestly wish I could have spent more time looking through each section. So I bought a Zara jacket from this location but the girl who worked the cashier didn't take off the security tag. I live in Sac and not SF so I go to Zara in the Roseville Galleria with proof of purchase to see if they can take the tag off but it has to be a Zara proof of purchase and not Buffalo Exchange. I'm pretty irritated that I now have to drive all the way back to SF to get this security tag taken off. Do better! read more

Had the unpleasant experience here on a Thursday afternoon. It was 2pm when I arrived and the line was already long. They only have one person buying clothes occasionally I seen a girl and another guy switch. The entire time the girl took her time gave everyone the opportunity to receive a decent compensation for what they bring. I finally reached the counter at 5PM .. 3 hours later !!! The guy goes to ring me up went through a whole 2 bag of clothes and only picked out 5 items ! I could've sworn you all needed jackets and women tees, name brand, nice , clothes and shoes. That's mostly what I had and he disregarded everything! I seen the clothes in the shop IT IS NOT like everything is designer and very upscale. I'm not sure what the problem was RACIST ? SEXIST ? IN A RUSH? But it's honestly no explanation. It was a waste of MY time cause everyone that I seen before me had a huge amount of their clothes taken. I seen several people come in and go once they seen the line would be hours. I figured it would be worth the wait but it was HORRIBLE ! IT SHOULD BE TWO PEOPLE BUYING ; A GUY FOR GUYS AND A GIRL FOR GIRLS. Obviously two types of styles and senses. The wait time was ridiculous! The manager Frankie is THE BEST. She works very hard to maintain efficiency when selling clothes, greets you with a warm smile, and manages the rest of the staff with a friendly yet assertive demeanor. The last time I was in, I needed a band-aid and she brought me a towel, a band-aid and Neosporin! So sweet. The rest of the staff is also friendly and remains calm during busy buy-back/ rush hours, in which I've seen customers get a tad prickly. I always go in for one thing and end up leaving with 4. Lots of gems to be discovered at guilt-free price points. read more

I've been several times and there always seems to be plenty of customers looking at things but rarely anyone buying anything. The clothing here is completely out of style.
