Anyway, the food was not good, it tasted like frozen burger you could get at the dollar store, it was way over priced, they charged you for everything. It seemed as if the waitresses didn't know how to take care of their customers, they didn't understand some of our request or other customers that were there, and we had to wait quite some time before we got our food. Overall, I wouldn't recommend going here, even if it's the only restaurant around. I'd save your money and time and go elsewhere. read more

My boyfriend and I were backbacking in the North Cascades and came down for one night in the "town". We were staying at the Buffalo Run Inn, so we couldn't pass up our 10% discount at the Buffalo Run Restaurant. The place has a certain charm on the inside - with all the buffalo decor (according to Marshall - the owner - the head on the wall is from one of his first buffalo). Marshall stopped over and told us the story of how he's come to own half the street (the ranch, the restaurant and the inn) all by originally buying his wife a baby buffalo for an anniversary present - sweet. But the best part of the night? The waitress. Super sweet local girl who was really attentive and answered all our questions about the area, the food and highway 20. But I know you really care what I thought about the food: What we had: The Hot Wings: nothing special. The Buffalo Stroganoff: nothing special. The buffalo was game-y (to be expected) and it was a large portion - glad we split. Pumpkin pie - I'm glad the waitress was honest in that all their pies are brought in frozen. It was just as I would have expected a frozen pie to taste, so so. So as far as food goes, it really was nothing special. I'm disappointed our bill was over $40 for everything we split. What did get me was Marshall. We arrived ~8:15 (place closes at 9) and promptly placed our orders. During our whole meal he was yelling to the staff to keep cleaning so they'd be sure to get out of there at 9. He even made a big deal when some locals came in at 8:30 and told them they "better eat quick". Take what you want, I know small towns have a different way of thinking, but it was a little frustrating when he came around and picked up our signed check right at 9:00. What a treat to find this restaurant. My boyfriend and I were on our way from Seattle to experience a real western town weekend getaway heading to Winthrop when we stumbled upon this restaurant. My boyfriend LOVES trying exotic meat and to our surprise we walked into this restaurant with many different kinds of exotic meats..camel, alligator, elk and bison. WOW!! It was my boyfriend's dream come true. Our server was very nice and honest. I'm not as adventurous as my boyfriend but I did want to try the exotic meats. When we asked what the alligator taste like she said it had a very fishy taste. I wanted to try it to see what it tasted like but knew I probably wouldn't like it. We asked what the camel was like and she said it was very good and juicy. I got the camel and by boyfriend got the alligator. She was right. The alligator was exactly like she described. I didn't care for it but my adventurous boyfriend liked it. The camel was actually pretty good. I'm glad we got to try both. The atmosphere was wonderful. There was a big bison head on wall. The total experience was once in a lifetime although I think my boyfriend would like to come back and try the elk. What an amazing experience. Jeez, maybe other folks came here on a bad day. When my buddies and I went here on our way back from a camping trip last May, we actually had a swell time. We had fun, silly banter with the owners, and they had a more exotic set of meats on the grill than I've ever seen before. I had a camel burger. My brother had kangaroo, and my friend had wild boar. Sure ain't gonna find that at most burger places. And for the weirdness of the meats, the prices were actually quite reasonable. For a little restaurant on the edge of civilization in the N. Cascades, that was pretty amazing. The fries could have been better, sure, but the restaurant's setting and the strange and interesting burger meats more than made up for it. My friends and I were looking for a local restaurant after a hike in the North Cascades. From what I read, this restaurant gives foreign exchange students employment opportunities. I appreciate that. The servers were trying their hardest to communicate and be friendly. However it is difficult to blame their mistakes on language or cultural barriers. They forgot that our dishes came with sides, neglected to bring an extra side we ordered, and had to be reminded to pick up our bills (their shift was ending, but they could have relayed information to other staff). One server said "one second," then walked away and never answered when I asked about where they source their exotic meats. Another merely said "hold on," in the middle of our order with no explanation while she ran to presumably check whether or not they had a certain menu item in stock. The food was okay; nothing to brag about. I had the "tempeh on a bun," while my friends had the garden burger and a sandwich. The meals did hit the spot after a long hike! My experience with the owner was quite pleasant, unlike many of the other customers' reviews. He seemed interested in our business outside of the restaurant, and made good conversation. He thanked us for coming and hoped we had a good experience. But at the same time, it is clear that whenever this business is met with negativity, the owner shifts the blame to the customer and offers no apology or solution. This place needs improvement. Perhaps more comprehensive training with customer interactions and better knowledge of the restaurant. I am giving a three star rating based on my experience, however I see how other customers reached their opinions. read more

Don't be fooled by the roadside diner look from the outside. This place is very nice on the inside and has a very cool patio area. Lots of interesting choices for burgers to include beef, elk, kangaroo, ostrich and buffalo. I got the kangaroo. I was a bit underwhelmed. Burger pattie was thin and a bit overlooked. My wife got the beef burger and it was thicker and cooked perfectly medium. We also got a side garden salad that was ok. Lettuce was a bit wilted. The servers were nice. I'd give this place another chance. Next time I'm going to try the ostrich burger. Some of the dinners were very expensive. Upwards of $40-$45 for the more exotic cuts of meat. Not quite sure this place really has the chops to pull that sort of fancy meal off, but I guess someone must be ordering it. read more

For $ 14.95 I got a cup of Chilibeans with a peace of cornbread and that was one of the cheapest things on the menu. I wouldn't have minded paying that cost for a bowl which was of decent flavor however the chili lacked any flavor. Hands down a place I would never go to again! OVER PRICED by all means. My friends and I were on our way home from Winthrop and we wanted to stop and grab some lunch before we got home. We remembered we saw the Buffalo Run Restaurant on our way to Winthrop so we made a plan to just stop there on our way home. Boy were we wrong!!! When we first walked through the door we were not greeted. When we were finally acknowledged we were rushed and all six of us were out at a table that we literally were rubbing elbows and legs at, not comfy or enough space. A few minutes went by and we were greeted by a very timid quiet girl who looked scared to even speak. She was very nice. The menu prices were outrageous, the selection was mediocre and the food was horrible. Between the six of us we ordered 2 burgers, 1 chicken strip basket ( I'll explain about those next paragraph) a turkey melt, and two Philly cheesesteak Sammy's. $120.00 of crap, blan, under-portioned food. The chicken strip basket came with 3 very tiny no wider than an inch and longer then 3 inches, weirdly crusted meat. My friend took one bite and spit it out. She said it tasted like freezer burnt fish sticks. Asked if I would try a bite to make sure she wasn't crazy and sure enough it tasted exactly the way she said it. I explained that to the waitress and she took the food away and the basket off the bill, thankfully. We finished eating got our checks and headed for the cash register. We were greeted by the lady who sat us down and surprisingly her attitude changed, maybe cause she knows she raped us for our money for crap food. Anyway, at the register they had a glass display fridge with pies and bottles of wines. My friend noticed a bottle of Pasek Cellars Cranberry wine. She told me to take a look at the color of the wine and the bottoms of the bottle. The wine was a very clear light pink (it's supposed to be a beautiful cranberry red) and the bottom of the bottle had gross black chunks inside. Super gross!!! We finally were out of there and on the road back home. When arriving home I finally puked the gross food up! Thankfully it isn't inside of me anymore!!! read more

A group of eight stopped for lunch. Club sandwich was one thin slice of turkey that barely covered the bread. Same thing for the cold turkey sandwich and the Swiss turkey melt. No turkey at all...bread and mayo. Angus burger was the thinnest, darkest, toughest piece of ground meat any of us had seen. My husband didn't finish it. One person who ordered soup and salad finally had to go in to remind them they forgot his food after waiting 15 minutes after we got served. No one apologized nor did they provide good service. This was some of the most uninspired food I've ever had. Would it kill you to put some pepper in your burger meat? A little garlic salt? McDonalds would have been an upgrade and cost 75% less. Coming out of a 5 day backpacking trip we walked in to the Buffalo run looking for some serious food ... and beer. As it turns out they had us exactly where they wanted us, and used that position to milk us of our money while providing disappointing dining experience. Seriously, we were six people that had just spend 5 days in the woods eating freeze dried 'lasagna', we were starving. And still we all found the food unappetizing and not fufilling. The menu seemed to have everything right, and i ordered a buffalo burger with fries and swiss cheese, along with a side of bacon. When it came i got about 12 fries and the bacon was comically thinly sliced. Each of those sides was a couple bucks, plus the burger and two beers and I ended up spending almost $30. Do yourself a favor and be patient next time you're coming out of the hills and want to eat. read more

I wasn't going to ask to talk to the manager until I told the server I didn't think I should have to pay $16 for the food which I couldn't eat nor give to my child. I wasn't going to walk back to the kitchen until the server said I would still have to pay for the food. Only came here because BBQ car just closed! This isn't why I'm giving this a poor review though. I just finished with a fun local hike and since I've been camping was looking forward to a Buffalo burger and fries!! The place was almost empty and I was by myself so i sat inside when asked where I wanted to be seated. As mentioned my waitress was foreign and kind of cute. She came back after not to long to get my drink order and I gave her the entire order at the same time. Wasn't hard, Buffalo burger and fries. My food was brought out fairly quick as would be expected since no other orders. The plain burger doesn't come with cheese so I added that and mushrooms and fried bacon! Sounded like the bomb! So the burger had only two small strips of bacon and a few hidden mushrooms besides the cheese. It tasted good but my biggest complaint was the fries! They only gave me like 12 fries! They couldn't have given me less if they tried. Anyway I ran out of Pepsi and after several times of the other waitress working walking by me to help other customers who started to come in I flagged down my waitress. Not a big deal but little things do add up. This whole time I was seated facing the counter where the owner stood and watched as he mistreated the two waitresses working time and again. Soon thereafter I watched the other waitress cutting pies and she started sneezing all over them. I had wanted pie until right then. The owner left to go check his motel across the street and locked up the drawer, taking the keys with him. By this time I started to realize he didn't trust any of his own workers and was himself an asshat when it came to his behavior towards others. Also need to mention I wasn't full after the burger and French fry so I asked for a garden salad. The ranch sauce I was given was so watered down it wouldn't sit on the lettuce and tasted so. Without telling every little detail, I will say this, I will never return to this place and suggest you don't either for your own health, physically and mentally. Update!! As the asshole Owner commented below it is a democracy. Very brilliant observation. In reply, I wasn't looking for any faults when I entered and I actually tipped the waitress well since I have worked in the industry for many years as a waiter myself and know we all have a bad day once in a while. Had it not been for your lack of understanding of the simple concept of Take care of your employees and they will go out of their way to take care of you, general hygiene and awareness then this restraurant would be doing much better. As for counting the fries, I can only laugh at your pigheaded idea that's what I was doing. We split a huge buffalo burger which was delicious! We ordered a side of onion rings which cost 4.95. One would expect a decent serving of them rings but we ended up with 10. That was fine. We asked for some barbecue sauce for the rings. Things just went down when we were charged 0.95 for that tiny thing of sauce ! They also charge you 0.50 per refill of soda which you pay 2.50 for! The owner is a dick. Like, grade A, colossal dick. The food sucks and did I mention the owner is a dick? I have been to the Buffalo Run twice. Once I ordered a burger and it was horrible. Second time I ordered fries and I don't know how you can screw up fries that bad, but they did. Both times I was there, I witnessed the owner being a jerk to either staff or customers. Yes, I've read the reviews, and yes, many of them have a point. You shouldn't have to pay extra for a lot of the condiments like cheese, or onions, but holy cow, what a bunch of snowflakes! Marblemount is a tiny town. I'm surprised that there is even a nice sit-down restaurant instead of a dirty burger stand. The Buffalo Run was clean, the patio was very pleasant, and the wait staff couldn't have been nicer. And I mean that the couldn't have been nicer, especially since we ate there two times in two days and the waitress was unfailingly cheerful in spite of my stupid old-man jokes. My elk burger was cooked perfectly, and while the fries are not the artisan-type I'd pay twice as much for in Seattle, they were fresh and succulent as opposed to dried-out and hard. The condiments were fresh and crisp, not old and limp. And jeez-o-petes! I didn't even know that you could get camel meat in the United States, let alone in Marblemount. My camel burger has to be one of the better burgers I've had in my life. It was cooked perfectly! Juicy, not too done or raw, and clearly not run through the Sahara before it hit the table. I've paid more for a worse burger, and with surly wait staff. After this weekend I would gladly recommend the Buffalo Run. read more

Well, it all started on a Friday morning at 11:00. My wife and I were both very hungry, not knowing there was a newly opened restaurant next door decided to try the Buffalo Run for the 2nd time. when we arrived, the supposed "part owner" was chewing out what turned out to be a very nice young foreign waitress. She was getting picked on by her and the other waitress. both of us felt sorry for her. Can you imagine being belittled in front of customers? This "part owner" lady was RUDE. we ordered an extremely over priced Rueben Sandwich. It had about .50 cents worth of meat on it and .20 cents worth of sauerkraut. We tipped the girl $10.00 when no one was looking, told her she did a great job and told her to stick it in her pocket. We drive by there at least once a month and will never eat there again. To bad there isn't an option for zero stars. Stopped by the Buffalo Run on Sunday hoping for a nice lunch. For a restaurant that charges "gourmet" prices for "gourmet" food you'd think they'd have real cheddar or real swiss for their burgers, instead they charge .85 extra for processed American or processed Swiss cheese. Their reasoning is they can't have real cheese melt on the grill. It makes me wonder how the 100's of other restaurants that use real cheese manage to deal with that? We asked to talk to the owner, basically she said they can't expect the cooks to do any substitutions, only to cook by what is available on the menu....period. She was not courteous or customer service oriented at all. We left rather than spend money at a place like that. read more
